Job 19:21-27 ~ my Redeemer lives

"My Redeemer Lives" Nicole C. Mullen live in Cincinnati. Beautiful, such praise brings tears to my eyes.

Job 19:21-27  ~  (New International Version)

 21 "Have pity on me, my friends, have pity,
       for the hand of God has struck me.
 22 Why do you pursue me as God does?
       Will you never get enough of my flesh?
 23 "Oh, that my words were recorded,
       that they were written on a scroll,
 24 that they were inscribed with an iron tool on lead,
       or engraved in rock forever!

 25 I know that my Redeemer lives,
       and that in the end he will stand upon the earth.

 26 And after my skin has been destroyed,
       yet in
my flesh I will see God;

 27 I myself will see him
       with my own eyes—I, and not another.
       How my heart yearns within me!

2 Corinthians 13:8-14
For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth. For we are glad when we are weak and you are strong. Your restoration is what we pray for. 10 For this reason I write these things while I am away from you, that when I come I may not have to be severe in my use of the authority that the Lord has given me for building up and not for tearing down.

11 Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another,  agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. 12 Greet one another with a holy kiss. 13 All the saints greet you.

14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Prayer Request

My neighbor, Charlotte, has requested prayers (from every person she knows) for her good friend who came every day to help Charlotte during her recovery from breast cancer 12 years ago.

Her friend discovered this year she has severely metastasized breast cancer at the same time her husband was discovered to have colon cancer. As the two parents, in their late 50s, were admitted to the hospital, their son was admitted to the same hospital having been in a motorcycle accident - losing both legs.  Charlotte is asking all Christians to pray for this family.

(I'm sorry I've forgotten one name. Cindy and Lester, but God does know & I will post it when I see my neighbor again.) We are asked specifically to pray for the strength of all the family members as well as healing.

Psalm 119:121-144 ~ keep steady my steps according to your promise

 March 25, 2010

Psalm 119:121-144

Ayin

121 I have done what is just and right;
do not leave me to my oppressors.
122 Give your servant a pledge of good;
let not the insolent oppress me.
123 My eyes long for your salvation
and for the fulfillment of your righteous promise.
124 Deal with your servant according to your steadfast love,
and teach me your statutes.
125 I am your servant; give me understanding,
that I may know your testimonies!
126 It is time for the Lord to act,
for your law has been broken.
127 Therefore I love your commandments
above gold, above fine gold.
128 Therefore I consider all your precepts to be right;
I hate every false way.

Pe

129 Your testimonies are wonderful;
therefore my soul keeps them.
130 The unfolding of your words gives light;
it imparts understanding to the simple.
131 I open my mouth and pant,
because I long for your commandments.
132 Turn to me and be gracious to me,
as is your way with those who love your name.
133 Keep steady my steps according to your promise,
and let no iniquity get dominion over me.
134 Redeem me from man's oppression,
that I may keep your precepts.
135 Make your face shine upon your servant,
and teach me your statutes.
136 My eyes shed streams of tears,
because people do not keep your law.

Tsadhe

137 Righteous are you, O Lord,
and right are your rules.
138 You have appointed your testimonies in righteousness
and in all faithfulness.
139 My zeal consumes me,
because my foes forget your words.
140 Your promise is well tried,
and your servant loves it.
141 I am small and despised,
yet I do not forget your precepts.
142 Your righteousness is righteous forever,
and your law is true.
143 Trouble and anguish have found me out,
but your commandments are my delight.
144 Your testimonies are righteous forever;
give me understanding that I may live.

Psalm 119 is divided into 22 sections of 8 verses each. Each section has a title, such as "Aleph," "Beth," "Gimel," "Daleth," and so on. These titles are actually not words; they are the letters that make up the Hebrew alphabet which has 22 letters, so Psalm 119 has 22 sections. A Puritan Preacher, Rev. Thomas Manton wrote 130 Sermons on Psalm 119. The information in this one Psalm with 176 verses is vast.

This section has trouble finding the Psalmist & he cries out he has not done anything to deserve this trouble. A lot of life is looking for a solution to a tangled problem. This Psalm has the solution to all troubles. Patiently wait upon the Lord. Paul looked at trouble, with contentment, to see what Father God would make of tragedy, inconvenience, dire straits and weakness; he had curiosity to seek how God would use the situation to His Glory.

Psalm 107 is a great comfort when the wild winds of life howl. There is an analogy of men tossed on a ship in a ferocious storm having great fear. With Jesus Christ's name and faith in God, the ship is brought to a desired haven of peace.

Romans 13:11,12
11And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.

Ephesians 2 ~ by the blood of Christ

Ephesians 2     ~ (English Standard Version)

Listen  - click for new tab

1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body [flesh] and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4 But [And] God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

11 Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called “the uncircumcision” by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands— 12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility 15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, 16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. 17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, [sojourners]
but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by [in] the Spirit.

This passage is the reason we should be able to see the difference in actions, in speech - we are Christians.  I asked a man in our Church how he was reacted to, in the business world, as a Christian. He said just fine, he experiences respect because other see him as giving fairness with kindness.

1 Corinthians 7:23
  You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of men.

i.e.

in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—  among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body [flesh] and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath

Psalm 23:6
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.

Matthew 5:14
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden."

Psalm 67:1-2
May God be gracious to us and bless us
   and make his face to shine upon us,
                         Selah
that your way may be known on earth,
   your saving power among all nations.

Song of Solomon 5 ~ radiant

Song of Solomon 5

Listen    -click for new tab

1 I came to my garden, my sister, my bride,
I gathered my myrrh with my spice,
I ate my honeycomb with my honey,
I drank my wine with my milk.
Eat, friends, drink,
and be drunk with love!

2 I slept, but my heart was awake.
A sound! My beloved is knocking.
“Open to me, my sister, my love,
my dove, my perfect one,
for my head is wet with dew,
my locks with the drops of the night.”
3 I had put off my garment;
how could I put it on?
I had bathed my feet;
how could I soil them?
4 My beloved put his hand to the latch,
and my heart was thrilled within me.
5 I arose to open to my beloved,
and my hands dripped with myrrh,
my fingers with liquid myrrh,
on the handles of the bolt.
6 I opened to my beloved,
but my beloved had turned and gone.
My soul failed me when he spoke.
I sought him, but found him not;
I called him, but he gave no answer.
7 The watchmen found me
as they went about in the city;
they beat me, they bruised me,
they took away my veil,
those watchmen of the walls.
8 I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
if you find my beloved,
that you tell him
I am sick with love.
9 What is your beloved more than another beloved,
O most beautiful among women?
What is your beloved more than another beloved,
that you thus adjure us?

10 My beloved is radiant and ruddy,
distinguished among ten thousand.
11 His head is the finest gold;
his locks are wavy,
black as a raven.
12 His eyes are like doves
beside streams of water,
bathed in milk,
sitting beside a full pool.
13 His cheeks are like beds of spices,
mounds of sweet-smelling herbs.
His lips are lilies,
dripping liquid myrrh.
14 His arms are rods of gold,
set with jewels.
His body is polished ivory,
bedecked with sapphires.
15 His legs are alabaster columns,
set on bases of gold.
His appearance is like Lebanon,
choice as the cedars.
16 His mouth is most sweet,
and he is altogether desirable.
This is my beloved and this is my friend,
O daughters of Jerusalem.

John 2:5-11
His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."

6Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. 7Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water." And they filled them up to the brim. 8And he said to them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast." So they took it. 9When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom 10and said to him, "Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now." 11This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. His disciples believed in him.

A wedding Jesus attended and a celebration of marriage. What would they have in common?

Purification becoming wine. To be drunk with love. A heart that is awake. Radiance. Eyes of a dove. A beloved, a friend. A manifestation of God's glory. A belief in enduring love.

Okay. How do you feel reading the Song of Solomon?  Pleasure, discomfort, guilt. The usual emotions to read this. Life and sexuality are like a high wind storm at sea.  Solomon wrote this and later said in Ecclesiastes 7 that he hadn't found a good, worthwhile woman. During his 700 marriages. No one can stand firm to say they can write the Bible for our guidelines. Yet, you could safely say Solomon fell into the trap written by the Eagles song: "you can spend your life making money, you can spend your love making time." Solomon was making too much time with too many women. Solomon never spent time "being" the right person. He seems stuck in the physical perfections.  A whole lot of love is about loving what isn't so perfect in the people you love.  When we read Song of Solomon we are reading not just about young love, but the ideals we see in the people we love.

It's almost (tragically) funny how the disciples react when Jesus says God doesn't really want or really approve of divorce:

Matthew 19:10
The disciples said to him, “If such is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry.”

And how to react when you are the parent? My good friend from college went home in elementary school to ask her mom about the facts of life - her friends were kidding her on her lack of knowledge. She knew her older sister was illegitimate.  So, her mom, a good Christian who had later married and had huge life in her Church told her this:

"I've thought about what I would say to you about this a long time, I haven't always lived perfectly. Sexuality is an enticing thing, but I can tell you this... it is wonderful with the one you love. Love is a wonderful thing." She went on to tell my friend commitment, marriage and honor is part of real love.

Why did God direct it to be so?

Genesis 1:27
So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

7then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.

When Adam was made both male and female, he was the image of God. Eve is part of God, created from Adam. Adam & Eve together are the image of God. Marriage is about two souls seeking to live life as one soul. To grow up, to care for someone as deeply as ourselves, to lift our concerns up.

Genesis 2:21-25
21So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. 22And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. 23Then the man said,

"This at last is bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman,
because she was taken out of Man."

24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

Proverbs 5:15-19
15 Drink water from your own cistern,
flowing water from your own well.
16 Should your springs be scattered abroad,
streams of water in the streets?
17 Let them be for yourself alone,
and not for strangers with you.
18 Let your fountain be blessed,
and rejoice in the wife of your youth,
19 a lovely deer, a graceful doe.
Let her breasts fill you at all times with delight;
be intoxicated always in her love.

We have heard for the last 3 decades 1/2 of all marriages end in divorce. More reliable statistics would say 2 in 3 marriages last. Isn't it great news to hear with the economic downturn more marriages are staying together. Statistics say when two people determine to stay married within a rocky relationship, within 5 years, that commitment brings both people to saying the marriage is actually good again.

1 Timothy 6:10-12
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

11But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

2 Thessalonians 3:5
May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.

Psalm 141 ~ make good

Psalm 141 ~ (New American Bible)

1
LORD, I call to you; come quickly to help me; listen to my plea when I call.
2
Let my prayer be incense before you; my uplifted hands an evening sacrifice.
3
Set a guard, LORD, before my mouth, a gatekeeper at my lips.
4
Do not let my heart incline to evil, or yield to any sin. I will never feast upon the fine food of evildoers.
5
3 Let the just strike me; that is kindness; let them rebuke me; that is oil for my head. All this I shall not refuse, but will pray despite these trials.
6
When their leaders are cast over the cliff, all will learn that my prayers were heard.
7
As when a farmer plows a field into broken clods, so their bones will be strewn at the mouth of Sheol.
8
My eyes are upon you, O GOD, my Lord; in you I take refuge; do not strip me of life.
9
Guard me from the trap they have set for me, from the snares of evildoers.
10
Into their own nets let all the wicked fall, while I make good my own escape.

How close is the Lord God, the Almighty, Father God, from our prayers? He dwells within us and He completely understands all of our prayer as a fragrance. He understands all of us as well as we know ourselves.

My Church uses incense on High Holy Days, everyone afterward has a comment either favorable or unfavorable. How does do the Scriptures record incense?

The first mention of incense is almost the beginning of the Scriptures (Exodus 25), so I would have to say God is pro - incense.

Revelation 5:7-9
7 And he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne. 8 And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song, saying,

"Worthy are you to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God
from every tribe and language and people and nation

Revelation 8:4
and the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel.

Fragrance in prayer is understandable when compared with this verse:

Romans 8:26-27
26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

Prayer is always something Father God comprehends. He is never like, as Elijah taunted the idol Baal - asleep.

Luke 18:1
And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.

May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.

1 Samuel 12 ~ here I stand

6/30/10

Rain storm over the area of mountainous area outside of Jerusalm, Israel the Scriptures say was Samuel's home

1 Samuel 12 ~ (New International Version)

Listen to 1Samuel 12 online in the New International Version -Audio link to 1 Samuel 12

1 Samuel said to all Israel, "I have listened to everything you said to me and have set a king over you. 2 Now you have a king as your leader. As for me, I am old and gray, and my sons are here with you. I have been your leader from my youth until this day. 3 Here I stand. Testify against me in the presence of the LORD and his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I cheated? Whom have I oppressed? From whose hand have I accepted a bribe to make me shut my eyes? If I have done any of these, I will make it right."

4 "You have not cheated or oppressed us," they replied. "You have not taken anything from anyone's hand."

5 Samuel said to them, "The LORD is witness against you, and also his anointed is witness this day, that you have not found anything in my hand."
"He is witness," they said.

6 Then Samuel said to the people, "It is the LORD who appointed Moses and Aaron and brought your forefathers up out of Egypt. 7 Now then, stand here, because I am going to confront you with evidence before the LORD as to all the righteous acts performed by the LORD for you and your fathers.

8 "After Jacob entered Egypt, they cried to the LORD for help, and the LORD sent Moses and Aaron, who brought your forefathers out of Egypt and settled them in this place.

9 "But they forgot the LORD their God; so he sold them into the hand of Sisera, the commander of the army of Hazor, and into the hands of the Philistines and the king of Moab, who fought against them. 10 They cried out to the LORD and said, 'We have sinned; we have forsaken the LORD and served the Baals and the Ashtoreths. But now deliver us from the hands of our enemies, and we will serve you.' 11 Then the LORD sent Jerub-Baal, Barak, Jephthah and Samuel, and he delivered you from the hands of your enemies on every side, so that you lived securely.

12 "But when you saw that Nahash king of the Ammonites was moving against you, you said to me, 'No, we want a king to rule over us'-even though the LORD your God was your king. 13 Now here is the king you have chosen, the one you asked for; see, the LORD has set a king over you. 14 If you fear the LORD and serve and obey him and do not rebel against his commands, and if both you and the king who reigns over you follow the LORD your God-good! 15 But if you do not obey the LORD, and if you rebel against his commands, his hand will be against you, as it was against your fathers.

16 "Now then, stand still and see this great thing the LORD is about to do before your eyes! 17 Is it not wheat harvest now? I will call upon the LORD to send thunder and rain. And you will realize what an evil thing you did in the eyes of the LORD when you asked for a king."

18 Then Samuel called upon the LORD, and that same day the LORD sent thunder and rain. So all the people stood in awe of the LORD and of Samuel.

19 The people all said to Samuel, "Pray to the LORD your God for your servants so that we will not die, for we have added to all our other sins the evil of asking for a king."

20 "Do not be afraid," Samuel replied. "You have done all this evil; yet do not turn away from the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart. 21 Do not turn away after useless idols. They can do you no good, nor can they rescue you, because they are useless. 22 For the sake of his great name the LORD will not reject his people, because the LORD was pleased to make you his own. 23 As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right. 24 But be sure to fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you. 25 Yet if you persist in doing evil, both you and your king will be swept away."

~ evidence before the LORD as to all the righteous acts performed by the LORD for you and your fathers.

When you think about the Lord's mercy, think upon this chapter. God's people have asked God to replace Him as their King. God's people are not consistent, yet the Lord keeps making provisions for them. Christianity does not ask for perfect people, Jesus Christ came to save sinners. The people of God feel insecure, threatened, bored, indifferent, lukewarm, but Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Lamentations 3:22
Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.

Psalm 136:26
Give thanks to the God of heaven,
for his steadfast love endures forever.

Deuteronomy 5:10
but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Father God, Your grace is our salvation. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Psalm 100 ~ with gladness!

Psalm 100

1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
2 Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!

3 Know that the Lord, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his; [and not we ourselves]

we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!

5 For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

Luke 16 ~ the Manager told him

Luke 16 (New International Version)

Listen to Luke 16 online in the New International Version

 - audio link

1 Jesus told his disciples: "There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions. 2 So he called him in and asked him, 'What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.' 3 "The manager said to himself, 'What shall I do now? My master is taking away my job. I'm not strong enough to dig, and I'm ashamed to beg— 4 I know what I'll do so that, when I lose my job here, people will welcome me into their houses.'

5 "So he called in each one of his master's debtors. He asked the first, 'How much do you owe my master?'

6 " 'Eight hundred gallons of olive oil,' he replied.
"The manager told him, 'Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it four hundred.'

7 "Then he asked the second, 'And how much do you owe?'
" 'A thousand bushels of wheat,' he replied.
"He told him, 'Take your bill and make it eight hundred.'

8 "The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light. 9 I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.

10 "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. 11 So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? 12 And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else's property, who will give you property of your own?

13 "No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."

14 The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus. 15 He said to them, "You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of men, but God knows your hearts. What is highly valued among men is detestable in God's sight.

16 "The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John. Since that time, the good news of the kingdom of God is being preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it. 17 It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the least stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law. 18 "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
19 "There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 "The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.'

25 "But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.'

27 "He answered, 'Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father's house, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.'

29 "Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.'

30 " 'No, father Abraham,' he said, 'but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.'

31 "He said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.' "

We live in a world were we prize the fact we move much faster than - say - the 15th century. Very few of the things man builds today will exist 500 years from now. We have beautiful buildings and cathedrals from the 15th century. If technology keeps changing so fast, who will remember the people who invented the amazing things of today? (I don't even remember who invented television, do you?)

And the Roman Empire managing the world 2 millenniums ago - they would not have found a manager constricting profits as even remotely reasonable. It is an unusual parable. It goes along with the old joke of the wife saving her husband money at the mall sales.

A manager who has return on investments of 50 to 75%, less than contracted, is called shrewd? Only in a famine.

Doing what it takes in a pinch to get the job done? My first house, an 1950s cottage, had a furnace, water heater, a garbage disposal, sinks, toilets, tubs and tile from the 1950s. Not to mention hard wood floors that would cost more than a new luxury car to replace. Almost all in good, working condition 50 years later.

Obsolescent Engineering. Today. We have found a way for the shrewd manager parable to be understood.

If we receive a lifetime of good things - what will we have done?

Solomon asked this himself.

Proverbs 3:

21 My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment,
do not let them out of your sight; 22 they will be life for you,
an ornament to grace your neck.
23 Then you will go on your way in safety,
and your foot will not stumble;
24 when you lie down, you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
25 Have no fear of sudden disaster
or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,
26 for the LORD will be your confidence
and will keep your foot from being snared.
27 Do not withhold good from those who deserve it,
when it is in your power to act.
28 Do not say to your neighbor,
"Come back later; I'll give it tomorrow"—
when you now have it with you.
29 Do not plot harm against your neighbor,
who lives trustfully near you.
30 Do not accuse a man for no reason—
when he has done you no harm.
31 Do not envy a violent man
or choose any of his ways,
32 for the LORD detests a perverse man
but takes the upright into his confidence.
33 The LORD's curse is on the house of the wicked,
but he blesses the home of the righteous.
34 He mocks proud mockers
but gives grace to the humble.

Matthew 7:24-27
24"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

Father God, each day let us build our lives to be pleasing to You. Help us to make our words matter, the work we do matter. When we are discouraged, please be the rock we stand upon. In good times let us glorify you, in difficulties, let us look to You to lift us. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

1 Corinthians 12:4-26 ~ the same Lord

1 Corinthians 12:4-26

Listen -click for new tab

4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8 For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.

12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves [bondservants] or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.

14 For the body does not consist of one member but of many. 15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? 18 But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. 19 If all were a single member, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, [members] yet one body.

21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, 24 which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, 25 that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. 26 If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.

Today is Isabelle's 2nd birthday. It should be a joyous occasion, I've dreamed of my daughter's birthday and the birthday parties probably since I was about 4 years old myself. Isabelle won't be here, she lives in heaven. Isabelle lives.

I picked out a birthday cake picture for the Scripture for Today Blogspot, I liked the cake picture, but it seemed a little too much. So I thought again about Isaiah 49. Isaiah writes like the Spirit of God -

John 3:8
The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.

When you read
Isaiah 49 we learn about Jesus, but the Lord mercifully speaks, as well, to parents who've had their children pass on before them. The photo reminds me of Isabelle - well, looked after with love, happy, loving, joyful, with Jesus, learning the pastures, the highways, the places of heaven.

Let me tell you about the daughter Edward and I have. I almost carried her to term, but little 2 lb. Isabelle was born asleep in the Lord. We were surprised to be expecting Isabelle, but like Edward said at the time, we'll have someone else to love. Our teenage sons were pretty excited.

We loved our 2nd sonogram, our wonderful OB Gyn smiled as he told us our daughter was very active, he said she'd probably be taking gymnastic lessons. Dr. M asked me if I'd taken gymnastic lessons. I did and loved them. Isabelle was modest, as well, covering the girl parts when the sonogram passed over to try to see if she really was a girl. We spent some time laughing and chasing her to find out.

Just as Cal, our oldest son, let me know in utero there would be no Chinese food (he still does not eat it), Isabelle let me know I should just about live on tangerines and tomato juice. Nothing seemed to be a food dislike. Isabelle used to get settled down at night like our Springer Spaniel, she kicked until she was comfortable. And she kicked, I used to laugh at her. We really enjoyed getting her room ready for her and planning the showers to come. Isabelle was going to use the same embroidered decorations her older brothers had used.

Isabelle liked the music at church, she'd really kick a whole bunch. Isabelle didn't like people to raise their voices and argue, she would become very still.

As time went by, Isabelle moved less. We had opted out of the tests for birth defects, we'd take Isabelle as she arrived. The terrible news came, Isabelle was very ill with extensive chromosome disorders and would suffer until she died within months of birth. We prayed. Others prayed.

(Matthew 6:19-21 ~ treasure in heaven

1 John 4:7-12 ~ Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God)

When something devastating happens - God helps us.

This birthday time hurts - my husband cries, I cry. My dear friend from H S is my facebook friend & her status update reminded me of a conversation she and I had a long time ago.

Her husband was taking a nap on the sofa one Friday evening. Janice tried to get him to eat the special meal she'd made. He only groaned. They ate without him. Janice went later in the evening to wake him, again, to discover Harry, not quite 40, was dead. Everyone was screaming. The paramedics were called. Harry had some life left and he was life flighted.

At the hospital, Harry's mother collapsed, she couldn't deal with it and she left Janice to take care of all of it. Harry had lots of tests run over days and they all concluded Harry was brain dead. The Hospital Chaplain came to help. Janice was in complete anguish - the Chaplain - named Roc promised to help Janice for every minute. As they turned the machines off, the Chaplain began to anoint Harry's forehead with oil. He prayed, " Harry would see Jesus holding His hand out to Harry. That the overwhelming Love of Jesus would call to Harry and he should take Jesus' hand." Harry, completely unresponsive and brain dead, opened his eyes. Harry lifted his hand up and smiled, took his last breath and died. You should see the photograph of Janice being baptized in that creek. The everlasting and overwhelming love of Jesus Christ changes lives, forever.

God helps us. To be reminded again of Harry meeting Jesus reminded me of the night I woke up in the middle of the night. My Aunt Clarice had died. I could feel her soul brush mine. I could feel her overwhelming joy - nothing could compare to that joy in this life.

God helps us. To remember Harry's miracle. To think of Aunt Clarice's joy. To see on Feedjit (at the bottom of the page of our blog) when Isabelle's story is looked at. To remember the most content, beautiful, precious little girl's joyful face. Isabelle Claire Gardere smiled as she was picked up by Jesus. And her face blesses her parents.

Isaiah 49:

5 And now the Lord says,
he who formed me from the womb to be his servant,

for I am honored in the eyes of the Lord,
and my God has become my strength—

9 saying to the prisoners, ‘Come out,’
to those who are in darkness, ‘Appear.’
They shall feed along the ways;
on all bare heights shall be their pasture;
10 they shall not hunger or thirst,
neither scorching wind nor sun shall strike them,
for he who has pity on them will lead them,
and by springs of water will guide them.
11 And I will make all my mountains a road,
and my highways shall be raised up.
12 Behold, these shall come from afar,
and behold, these from the north and from the west,
and these from the land of Syene.”

13 Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth;
break forth, O mountains, into singing!
For the Lord has comforted his people
and will have compassion on his afflicted.

15 “Can a woman forget her nursing child,
that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb?
Even these may forget,
yet I will not forget you.
16 Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are continually before me.

20 The children of your bereavement
will yet say in your ears:
‘The place is too narrow for me;
make room for me to dwell in.’

22 Thus says the Lord God:
“Behold, I will lift up my hand to the nations,
and raise my signal to the peoples;
and they shall bring your sons in their bosom,
and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders.
23 Kings shall be your foster fathers,
and their queens your nursing mothers.

Then you will know that I am the Lord;
those who wait for me shall not be put to shame.”

25 For thus says the Lord:
“Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken,
and the prey of the tyrant be rescued,
for I will contend with those who contend with you,
and I will save your children.

Then all flesh shall know
that I am the Lord your Savior,
and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”

Come, Lord Jesus.

About scripture-for-today.blogspot.com/

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He has saved all who call upon His name and rely on Him for His Grace. The Scriptures are living & active and are for understanding the Lord Almighty. Biblical readings are chosen from the Ecumenical Christian Church and the Nicene Council, 325 A.D., approved Apocrypha. People remember not just from reading, but by sight and orally- an image has been added as well as audio readings. God tends to link the passages together with fascinates - this blogger, Anne-Laurel Gardere, Member of Anglican Church of North America, part of the Church of England. Our Christian family is HopePointe Anglican Church of The Woodlands, Texas.

A simple blog, scripture-for-today.blogspot

This blog is pretty simple, but for a reason. This blog isn't about agenda or me, it is for the joy and love to found by reading the Scriptures. Ultimately, it is you and the Lord.

The Scriptures are Father God's letter to you. He wanted you to know more, to know He loves you.

About Me

My photo
To be included in daily emails, please email holdenll@hotmail.com “All Scripture is inspired by God” (2 Timothy 3:16). Men “moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God” (2 Peter 1:21). The Holy Spirit carried men along, moving and guiding them as they wrote in their own words what God wanted them to say. The Bible is unique; comprised of 80 separate books, & written over a period of thousands of years by more than 40 writers with one Author, spanning the centuries, different states of peace & war & different situations in life. The Bible answers the question: of who is God, who is man & what can their relationship can be. Although the Bible was written on perishable material and copied by hand for many centuries, its accuracy is not in doubt, proven by Dead Sea Scrolls and papyrus from 2,000 years. The Bible has survived persecution & criticism to be read with great interest in each generation. The Bible gives witness to the greatness of the Creator. A loving Father concerned for all of his creation. With each verse of the bible witnessing to God is love and the multitude & vastness of His attributes. The Bible was written for you. <><
