Colossians 1:1-14 ~ saints and faithful brothers in Christ

1 Corinthians 16:13
Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.

1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

2 Thessalonians 2:15
So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by our spoken word or by our letter.

Colossians 1:1-14

1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,

2 To the saints and faithful brothers in Christ at Colossae:

Grace to you and peace from God our Father.

3 We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, 4 since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, 5 because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel, 6 which has come to you, as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and increasing—as it also does among you, since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth, 7 just as you learned it from Epaphras our beloved fellow servant. He is a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf 8 and has made known to us your love in the Spirit.

9 And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. 13 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

The Bible in your hand is a miracle.

In 70 A.D., Jerusalem was burned and destroyed. The Essenes who wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls were obliterated. Almost all of Judea was torn down and burned. As Jesus had said, all the stones were thrown down, we can see He was right today.

increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy

Roman emperors Vespasian and Titus held the Siege of Jerusalem in 70 AD, the Romans destroyed the Temple in Jerusalem and, according to some accounts, plundered the Temple Tools, such as the Menorah seen in Rome's Arch of Titus.  Julius Severus ravaged Judea while putting down the Bar Kokhba revolt of 132–136. 985 villages were destroyed and most of the Jewish population of central Judaea was essentially wiped out – killed, sold into slavery, or forced to flee.

The Bible in your hand is a miracle.
Increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy

The Good News would go forth.

By the Will of God.

For 4 centuries, the fragile papyrus of Scripture would be destroyed. Today, we can go to the store and just purchase a Bible - something many people have died to bring us.
Lives were allowed to be sacrificed,  for many more to hear the saving hope in Jesus' Love.

Because Jesus died for us. And our faith in Him is so important.

We have this list:

The Roman Colosseum was build by the gold from the destruction of Jerusalem and The Temple of God in 81 A. D.

JESUS CHRIST
IS VERY MUCH PART OF EVIDENT HISTORY

When Jesus died, Claudius was Emperor of Rome. It was Claudius who imprisoned Paul, the first time. In the remote, far away country of Judea, the name of Jesus Christ and His promises and His Word, created unease for Claudius. Imagine this could occur in the time there were no mass methods of communication. It is historical fact. 16 years after the death of Jesus. Claudius has gone from prominence to being an enigma in history.

Jesus Christ has gone forth.

Claudius – Imprisoned Christians. Reigned 25 -54 AD. Emperor during the death and resurrection of Jesus. Imprisoned Paul, for his first imprisonment, house arrest.

Nero – Tortured, burned and vilified Christians. Blamed them for burning Rome . 54- 68 AD

Galba – Put St. Paul and others to death. 69 AD

Otho & Vittelius– only 4 months as Emperor

Vespasian – Sent Titus to destroy Jerusalem in 70 AD, it was the natural end time of Jesus’ life. It is said it is the prophecies Jesus spoke of, His forgiveness was given to the people of His generation. In that destruction, the Temple of the Jews has not been built in 2,000 years. (In 300 A.D, a third temple had the materials gathered, but earthquake, war and fire put an end to that.) Jewish Sacrifice has not been practiced for 2,000 years, it is forsaken. The Jews don’t even know why. God said Jesus was the sacrifice for you.

Titus – See Arch of Titus, still standing, in Rome today. The Temple Tools minus the Ark of the Covenant, is carved in the marble. The profit from the sack of Jerusalem is used for the Coliseum. The Coliseum was used to burn Christians until Constantine naively adopted Christianity thinking Christians would be model citizens. Still a triumph for the 1,100 Bishops, Priests, Christians proclaiming Jesus Christ for 300 years even if they would be burned alive for it.

Domitian – Hauled St. John from Ephesus and exiled him to Patmos. Continued to be fearful of Christians. Conducted one of the fiercest battles against Christians. Under Domitan, the Church split in half. Domitan Heresy - the Church is only for saints. Domitan tortured until Christians surrendered every fragment of the Gospels and New Testament he could find. 81-96. Because of Domitan – we have the word traitor . Part of the Church wanted to forever exile anyone who lied to get out of torture or gave up Scripture. Forgiveness is the business of the Church and Jesus Christ.

Because of Domitan, we only have 15 fragments of the Gospel before 96 AD. But these portions exist and date to 30 AD. Hebrews 9 tells us when Paul wrote Hebrews, the Second Temple is in operation.

The Love of Jesus Christ opening His arms to slaves, lepers, women, the poor, the wife of the steward of Herod’s household, Nicodemus of the Sanhedrin Council and Josephus. Ian Wilson records a letter from a Jewish rabbi, of Lyracanthra, saying it would be the end of Judaism because of the incredible miracles of healing, restoration, life transformation and complete hope. These are letters confirming the Gospels show the Rabbi to be extremely unhappy. Josephus, the Israeli General turned traitor, turned Historian says Jesus was the Christ and his brother James formed the later Christian Church until martyred in 62 AD.

Hadrian (c. 76 - 138) Foxe's Book of Martyrs -- Persecution Under Trajen...... The forenamed authors, Antoninus and Equilius

Antoninus Pius (c. 86 - 161) Instead of stirring up persecution against the Christians, he extended to them the strong hand of his protection throughout the empire. Rather than give occasion to that oppression which he regarded as inseparable from an emperor's progress through his dominions, he was content to spend all the years of his reign in Rome, or its neighborhood. Under his patronage the science of jurisprudence was cultivated by men of high ability, and a number of humane and equitable enactments were passed in his name. 161 – 180 166 Christian persecution returned - The period was one of ever-increasing calamities. The earthquakes which had alarmed Asia under Antoninus were but the prelude to more serious convulsions. The Tiber rose to an unprecedented height and swept away the public granaries. This was followed by a famine, and that by a pestilence, which spread from Egypt and Ethiopia westward. Everywhere on the frontiers there were murmurs of insurrection or invasion. The year 166 was long known as the "annus calamitosus," and it was in that year that the persecution broke out and that Justin suffered. These calamities roused the superstition of the great mass of the people, and a wild fanaticism succeeded to an epicurean atheism. The gods were wrath, and what had roused their anger but the presence of those who denied them?

Marcus Aurelius (c. 121 - 180) The Thundering Legion incident (174)

During the war with the Quadi in 174 there took place the famous incident of the Thundering Legion (Legio Fulminatrix, Fulminea, Fulminata) which has been a cause of frequent controversy between Christian and non-Christian writers. The Roman army was surrounded by enemies with no chance of escape, when a storm burst. The rain poured down in refreshing showers on the Romans, while the enemy were scattered with lightning and hail. The parched and famishing Romans received the saving drops first on their faces and parched throats, and afterwards in their helmets and shields, to refresh their horses. Marcus obtained a glorious victory as a result of this extraordinary event, and his enemies were hopelessly overthrown.

That such an event did really happen is attested both by pagan and Christian writers. The former attribute the occurrence either to magic (Dion Cassius, LXXI, 8-10) or to the prayers of the emperor (Capitolinus, "Vita Marci", XXIV; Themistius, "Orat. XV ad Theod"; Claudian, "De Sext. Cons. Hon.", V, 340 sqq.; "Sibyl. Orac.", ed. Alezandre, XII, 196 sqq. Cf. Bellori, "La Colonne Antonine", and Eckhel, "Doctrina Nummorum", III, 64). The Christian writers attributed the fact to the prayers of the Christians who were in the army (Claudius Apollinaris in Eusebius, Church History V.5; Tertullian, "Apol.", v; ad Seap. c. iv), and soon there grew up a legend to the effect that in consequence of this miracle the emperor put a stop to the persecution of the Christians (cf. Euseb. and Tert. opp cit.).

It must be conceded that the testimony of Claudius is the most valuable of all that we possess, as he wrote within a few years of the event, and that all credit must be given to the prayers of the Christians given to Tertullian

Lucius Verus (co-emperor) (c. 130 - 169) with Marcus Aurelius
180 - 192

Commodus (c. 161 - 192) All these who failed to follow the decree were brought to the Senate and were tried. This decree was a forceful attempt to put down Christians completely. But the followers who believed in Jesus Christ refused to accept this and many were ready to face the trial. "The Passion of the Scillitan Martyrs" written.

Personally sends troops to Nazareth, the Bishop of Caesarea Eusibius records Diocletian offering clemency to the nephews carefully recording their ancestry to Jesus Christ. All refuse and are tortured and put to death. Diocletian sends troops to Turkey to place the Bishop Nicholas (also known as St. Nicholas or, in German, Santa Claus, in prison.

Galerius (305-311)
Licinius (311-323) 311: Edict of Galerius: toleration for Christians, allowing them to worship openly

Constantine was forced as a nephew to the Emperor to go to Nazareth and torture and kill the descendents of the Brothers of Jesus. All refused to decant Jesus. All perished. A week Constantine would have to change his life. Bishop Eusebius is eyewitness to Constantines arrival and departure for this purpose.

Constantine (307-337) 313: Edict of Constantine (Edict of Milan): toleration for all religions, including Christianity; ends persecutions

Constantine's position on the religions traditionally practiced in Rome evolved during his reign. At first he prohibited the construction of new temples and tolerated traditional sacrifices; by the end of his reign, he had begun to order the pillaging and tearing down of Roman temples. The day Christianity officially arrived in the Roman Empire was in 325 A.D. The First Council of Nicaea is regarded as the first Ecumenical Council of the Christian Church. Invited by Emperor Constantine, about 318 world-wide Bishops (including St. Nicholas), who had risked their lives and were condemned for serving Jesus, traveled across continents and oceans, continued to risk their lives in dangerous travel, to express the basis of the Church today and choose the Books of the Bible.

(* The above information was gathered from several sources and paraphrased.)

The triumph of Christianity is actually a very remarkable historical phenomenon. ...

We begin with a small group from the backwaters of the Roman Empire. Judea wasn't even a province to send someone important to govern. Syria was the overlord for tiny Judea. 16 years go by and Claudius is very worried. After two, three centuries go by, lo and behold that same group and its descendants have somehow taken over the Roman Empire and have become the official religion. Believing in Jesus Christ and having life transformations. The life and death of Jesus Christ and the promises He brought. John 1:35-42 ~ He said to them, “Come and you will see.”

Father God, let us always remember to be grateful to the people who have protected Your Word and who proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy

The Lord. Jesus Christ. Son of God. Knows your name. Today.

How will we have this resilience?
Increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy

Today, Fox News showed a Video of Dr. Didier Raoul saying the Covid 19 virus just ends. Just as Sars did. Dr. Didier, renowned Virologist of Marseilles, France, says no one knows why virus epidemics melt away.

We should consider the Mercy of God for us. The Polio prayers with this Virus having a- never- before- heard of effect to spare the children today.

To place ourselves below God in prayer. To only look up to God's very own Mercy to His Children. To hold on to Jesus Christ in prayer. Is to find - God helps us today.

Mark 6

53 When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored to the shore. 54 And when they got out of the boat, the people immediately recognized him 55 and ran about the whole region and began to bring the sick people on their beds to wherever they heard he was.

56 And wherever he came, in villages, cities, or countryside,
they laid the sick in the marketplaces and implored him
that they might touch
even the fringe of his garment.

And as many as touched it were made well.

increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy

Abba,

There apparently was no way Jesus would have the Church He told His Disciples about. There was no way, a Man of God, in a remote Syrian suburb, Judea, who died on the criminal's cross would change the world.

There was no way the Roman Empire would accept the Believers who prayed for God's Mercy and Healing for many.

There is Mercy from God and Healing. Jesus Christ has changed the world. People find strength. People believe they will be heard and healed. People pray for one another. Disasters always arrive, Jesus said in this life we will have trouble. And just as the History of the world proves we Overcome, we can hold fast to Jesus Christ.

We can believe God speaks saying His Creation is good. We can believe Jesus is the Light in mankind. We can hold the Bible in our hands and realize fragile Papyrus would never be here today. And we find Isaiah is the same 2,000 years plus. Papyrus 46 explains the Bible remains Firm. To create people who see the waves and wind have calm in Jesus Christ.

We believe God will see us through to thrive and live seeing Heaven upon earth. For His Good will to provide for us. To live to Seek God First and Live having Love, Peace and Joy.

Uphold us, Father. Uphold those we Love.

Increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy

Finding Peace, is the Scripture,

is finding the Word of God to hold onto Today.

We ask for the virus to end and Joy in Recovery.

2 Chronicles 20:15-17 ~ The Lord will be with you

Recently, Dori had an excellent prayer and I was particularly moved. I'd say it was the Covid 19 Prayer I'll always remember. Here is my best summary:

Dear Father God,

We lean into You to rest and draw Comfort from You. We realize we are fine. We are fine, and we are fine.

And suddenly we realize we have been tense all day being fine. And we again know we need the Strength and encouragement we find in Jesus Christ. Let's draw close together. And in your Strength, we will rest assured.

We want Your Comfort to surround and protect those we Love. We know You are God and You make all things Possible.

We live in Jesus, renew us again in Jesus. Amen.

I've had all the symptoms of Covid 19 at least
three times a week. How 'bout achew?

Feeling intermittently (or constantly) on edge, worried or sleepless are normal ‘fight-or-flight’ reactions to this trauma. We are not going crazy. We are simply coping with a new reality — whether we are sick or not.
By Lucy McBride, M.D. and Roxane Cohen Silver, Ph.D

About mid-March, as I walked the dogs, I'd pass quite a few people looking like someone was in the room with a loaded gun. People were terrified. Now, people don't look so afraid and this is wonderful. And yet, there is a lot of emotion surrounding so many, many new opportunities for a solution. Ranging from Spiritual, Health, Finances, National, State, Local, Jobs, Safety, Isolation, Relationships, Reactions to the events with the people we love and interact with. We all look more normal, but it's a tough worried, concerned, downright angry time. Even the boredom does things.

If you aren't sleeping, you won't do well.  (Unless you are Michelangelo).
Melatonin in your right number, slow-release. Melatonin is a hormone made by the pineal gland. That's a pea-sized gland found just above the middle of your brain. It helps your body know it's time to sleep. I've found juggling the numbers and not always taking Melatonin makes my Pineal happier. I've found my Tinnitus is happier and calmer as well.

The other thing we have to examine is the comfort we require to sleep. This might be as easy as juggling the blankets in the house. I've found a cotton woven blanket will make the covers hug me and this feels like I have covers, not needing adjustment. And then we have a synthetic eiderdown comforter, with very smooth cotton. The real eiderdown bunched up. And in the winter, or in back pain, we sleep with a heating blanket under us to make tired shoulders and hips have comfort with a flick of a switch. Works very well. Edward and I have 3 down pillows each and constantly battle for the fluffy, on top, pillow. My sons swear by Tempurpedic pillows. Our mattress is Tempurpedic and it's constantly warm, so we have a ceiling fan and my grandmother Anita's c. 1935 iron fan pointed at us.

What would cause your nest to be more comfortable - this is for you to diligently experiment. Our quilt is great but it hurts my feet and I remove this from my feet. It's an effort of comfort, well worth the testing.

Limiting media exposure, avoiding mistruths, and practicing breathing, yoga or meditation. Prayer! And the Word of God. This is Easter and we are going to find our Road to Emmaus, not with convoluted suddenly arrived at new theories, but with the Solid Rock Foundation of God's Word.

What will you face? Exercise? Making phone calls to the less than enthusiastic? Going back to work? Having new fears? Exercise and music are going to help with Prayer. Maybe you will make time to please yourself. I've been having sugar free ice-cream with a diet soda. For a hundred calories, I'm beating pre-diabetes. With Exercise. And Prayer.

Here is my disclaimer:
Ad mores et ad usum, ut usus sit commercial, sive in natura, sive in nonprofit pro educational usus.
De natura iuris opus.
Et quantum ad usus, et sustineri ex parte comparari ad se ut totum opus iuris.

Saying, if you are older and have immunity health issues, take care. Or if you are in a Hot Spot. Don't.

I'm seeing people who are healthier and family meeting together in parking lots.
Coffee is being sipped. Restaurant take-out is being eaten. In Parking Lots. The cars take up two spots, leaving two empty spaces in between for four people in two car spaces. What is carried from home are foldable yard chairs. Everyone is 6 feet apart. The people look happier. And one warm, warm Texas day the parking lot featured two lounge chairs in the very warm concrete Parking Lot. It's not the beach, but Texas Concrete Parking Lots are bright and very warm!

When we feel overwhelmed, one day at a time. Consider the times this nation has seen in one lifetime:
I feel in God we Trust, we will prevail.

The end of empires: decolonization
The Cold War

Judges 10:8-15 ~ served the Lord

Judges 10:8-15

For eighteen years they oppressed all the people of Israel who were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead. 9 And the Ammonites crossed the Jordan to fight also against Judah and against Benjamin and against the house of Ephraim, so that Israel was severely distressed.

10 And the people of Israel cried out to the Lord, saying, “We have sinned against you, because we have forsaken our God and have served the Baals.”

11 And the Lord said to the people of Israel, “Did I not save you from the Egyptians and from the Amorites, from the Ammonites and from the Philistines? 12 The Sidonians also, and the Amalekites and the Maonites oppressed you, and you cried out to me, and I saved you out of their hand. 13 Yet you have forsaken me and served other gods; therefore I will save you no more. 14 Go and cry out to the gods whom you have chosen; let them save you in the time of your distress.”

15 And the people of Israel said to the Lord, “We have sinned; do to us whatever seems good to you. Only please deliver us this day.”

16 So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the Lord,
and He became impatient over the misery of Israel.

Ephesians 1:7
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace

Colossians 3:13
Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive

Ephesians 4:32
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

John 21:11
So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them.
And although there were so many, the net was not torn.

12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.”

When we have time on our hands, and worry, we can bring up old hurts and find anger.

When I think of our Father God providing me and giving me the Grace of His Forgiveness. And then feel the outflow of Mercy within me is waning to depletion, I've found visualizing unending Living Water pouring down. Is Sincere Help.

Romans 1:16
For I am not ashamed of
The Gospel,
for it is the power of God
for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

Jeremiah 23:29
Is not My word like fire, declares the LORD, and like a hammer that smashes a rock?

Romans 1:16
For I am not ashamed of The Gospel,
for it is the power of God
for salvation to everyone
who believes

The Road to Emmaus. When we find the Comfort of Jesus, Christ of God. This generally isn't longer, or more difficult, than a verse of God's Living Word.

Jesus told us Rivers of Living Water:

John 7:37-39

The great day, Jesus stood up and cried out,

“If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.
Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said,
‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”

Now this he said about the Spirit.

We are told of the abundance of Living Water. And in the Lord's Prayer, we learn, we need Daily Bread. Jesus is our Living Bread. We are will want to abide in His Word.

Deuteronomy 6:5-7
And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These words I am commanding you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 And you shall teach them diligently to your children and speak of them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

The faith of our fathers, the continuance of Life. The Word of God. Life.

The Road to Emmaus was written by the Holy Spirit, in Moses.

Deuteronomy 11:18
Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as reminders on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.

Proverbs 3:3
Never let loving devotion or faithfulness leave you; bind them around your neck,
write them
on the tablet of your heart.

2 Samuel 22:23
For all His ordinances are before me; I have not disregarded His statutes.

Psalm 37:31
The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not falter.

Abba,

"Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life."

For “‘In Him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed His offspring.’

Acts 17:11
Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

To Seek You First. To find Your Kingdom Today.
And we Thrive in You.

Finding Peace, is the Scripture,

is finding the Word of God to hold onto Today.

We ask for the virus to end and Joy in Recovery.

About Me

My photo
Email registry at bottom.! “All Scripture is inspired by God” (2 Timothy 3:16). Men “moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God” (2 Peter 1:21). The Holy Spirit carried men along, moving and guiding them as they wrote in their own words what God wanted them to say. The Bible is unique; comprised of 80 separate books, & written over a period of thousands of years by more than 40 writers with one Author, spanning the centuries, different states of peace & war & different situations in life. The Bible answers the question: of who is God, who is man & what can their relationship can be. Although the Bible was written on perishable material and copied by hand for many centuries, its accuracy is not in doubt, proven by Dead Sea Scrolls and papyrus from 2,000 years. The Bible has survived persecution & criticism to be read with great interest in each generation. The Bible gives witness to the greatness of the Creator. A loving Father concerned for all of his creation. With each verse of the bible witnessing to God is love and the multitude & vastness of His attributes. The Bible was written for you. <><
