John 1 ~ Make straight the way for the Lord

John 1

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all people. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.

9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only [Son], who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, "This is he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' ") 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only [Son], who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

19 Now this was John's testimony when the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. 20 He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, "I am not the Messiah."

21 They asked him, "Then who are you? Are you Elijah?"
He said, "I am not."
"Are you the Prophet?"
He answered, "No."

22 Finally they said, "Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?"

23 John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, "I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way for the Lord.' "

24 Now the Pharisees who had been sent 25 questioned him, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?"

26 "I baptize with water," John replied, "but among you stands one you do not know. 27 He is the one who comes after me, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie."

28 This all happened at Bethany on the other side of the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is the one I meant when I said, 'A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' 31 I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel."

32 Then John gave this testimony: "I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. 33 And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, 'The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.' 34 I have seen and I testify that this is God's Chosen One."

35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, "Look, the Lamb of God!"

37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. 38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, "What do you want?"
They said, "Rabbi" (which means "Teacher"), "where are you staying?"

39 "Come," he replied, "and you will see."
So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon.

40 Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, "We have found the Messiah" (that is, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus.
Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas" (which, when translated, is Peter ).

43 The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, "Follow me."

44 Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida. 45 Philip found Nathanael and told him, "We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."

46 "Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?" Nathanael asked.
"Come and see," said Philip.

47 When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, "Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit."

48 "How do you know me?" Nathanael asked.
Jesus answered, "I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you."

49 Then Nathanael declared, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel."

50 Jesus said, "You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that." 51 He then added, "Very truly I tell you, you will see 'heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on' the Son of Man."

Mark 6:45-56 ~ and all who touched Him were healed

  Mark 6:45-56

45 Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and head across the lake to Bethsaida, while he sent the people home. 46 After telling everyone good-bye, he went up into the hills by himself to pray.

47 Late that night, the disciples were in their boat in the middle of the lake, and Jesus was alone on land. 48 He saw that they were in serious trouble, rowing hard and struggling against the wind and waves. About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. He intended to go past them, 49 but when they saw him walking on the water, they cried out in terror, thinking he was a ghost. 50 They were all terrified when they saw him.

But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage! I am here!” 51 Then he climbed into the boat, and the wind stopped. They were totally amazed, 52 for they still didn’t understand the significance of the miracle of the loaves. Their hearts were too hard to take it in.

53 After they had crossed the lake, they landed at Gennesaret. They brought the boat to shore 54 and climbed out. The people recognized Jesus at once, 55 and they ran throughout the whole area, carrying sick people on mats to wherever they heard he was. 56 Wherever he went—in villages, cities, or the countryside—they brought the sick out to the marketplaces. They begged him to let the sick touch at least the fringe of his robe,
and all who touched him were healed.

Loaves and Hearts

Guess who's coming to Dinner?

Well, Gladys. Oh Aunt Gladys! She is so Great Hearted. And Granpa John - know how to stick by you way past the thick and thin to the very gates of Hell.

Now the thing about Aunt Gladys, she is tremendously loving.
But she has some rules.
She listens only to Christian music and she expects no swearing, no violent video games. No drinking. No off color stories. She likes to be introduced to new people, but you need to prep them first so she isn't exposed to anything messy. Movies need to be screened. Because she really likes Sunday School atmosphere. It's not that she's uptight, so we are off to a bad start explaining Aunt Gladys - it is that she is vastly holy. She rescues people who are doing the right things. She will get up in the middle of the night give you the shirt off your back. You just have to show that you are putting your good foot forward upwards. You have to modify every thing first to see if Aunt Gladys is pleased. Because, well, to be honest, Aunt Gladys has some vast temper. But even if you make her mad, she is going to forgive you. Immediately. Then you need just to keep working really hard to hold up your end of the relationship.

Cousin Irving says Glad is isn't.

And next we will talk Granpa John.

He has been in the thick of war. He has seen people at their very worst.
He has seen good people have hard times. He has seen good people go wrong. He will tell you some stories that make your mouth fall open. Dealing with drunkenness. He has a few stories of incest where he had to intervene.

He has seen some things we just wouldn't want to see like the lepers in biblical times. He had to go into heavy combat with a friend and tried his best to save the man, and still will cry about that. He has seen a good man have his name dragged into litigation over mere rules of conduct.

And Granpa John in his extreme old age can do authority to make people see the straight path to getting along. In spite of seeing really difficult and horrible things,

Granpa John has Joy. He listens like no other and is quick to point out when you do the brilliant, courageous thing and he will honestly shake his head and tell you when you did WRONG and Need To Start Over After You Earnestly Apologize.

Because Granpa John has seen so much and has a story to tell about all the drama and the crime and the war and the success he has rejoiced over - you can pretty well tell Granpa John ANYTHING. And you are going to get a straight answer that will not humiliate you or cause you to have to say, "No, that's not what I meant, no, you don't understand." Granpa John will encourage you in what you do best. He loves to cheer his loved ones on.

And then there is our cousin Patrick. He was in the navy, but the oddest thing happened. He became enslaved to a group of people who seemed to have religion of nature, but they - liked human sacrifice. And snakes. And fortunately, Patrick escaped and got to come home.

Patrick like joined the Peace Corpes or something. Because he got sorta funny. And went back to the enslaved people to save them.

So Patrick came back and we asked him about that. And Patrick said he had to save the people from the snakes. Irving said grown people should be able to kill snakes. Patrick glared at Irving. And Patrick said the snakes are people who make religion their goal and then bite the hell out of anyone who would break a rule for life happening.

Patrick said that there aren't any manuals on bringing people to Jesus Christ the Lord. At that point Gladys became really angry. Especially when Patrick told Gladys she didn't walk on water.

Patrick informed us then,
that
this whole post is an analogy.

Patrick is St. Patrick who did indeed bring Jesus Christ to cast the snakes of so called religion off the island.

Gladys is the way we so very badly represent the God who became Man. Who from the beginning was Light. The Light that Shines in All Men. From whom we are blessed to be given Grace upon Grace. We need to bring witness to the Light of God's Love.

Granpa John? Is Of Course - the man who would follow Jesus to the Hell on earth of dying for us to be given Salvation. And when you look at the life of John, praising the other Gospels to Bishop Papias of Hierapolis. Encouraging the brethren. Loving people. Polycarp. Being firm on what Jesus is.

The Word of God covers all the messes we could ever get into. The Word of God is not squeamish in the situations where the Light will Shine. Jesus healed lepers by touch. Deaf men privately with gestures. The blind asked Jesus to heal and He did. Jesus put His hand into the fish and the loaves to get past
verse 52 -  hardheartedness.

Jesus had people like His own brothers disappoint Him. He knew they needed time. John told us what God is - God Is Love.

What did Jesus expect of His own brothers? To grow into their idea of God and then to take wife and all and tell people about the Goodness of God. I don't recall one time Jesus rushed up to people to tell them off. Except. When the Church/Temple were selling in His Place. Jesus was known to speak tartly to religious Nicodemus coming to Him privately at night.

There is something about a God Sized Mission Statement about Saving the World. Jesus knew and understood the two natures in all of humankind.

John 2
23 Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name, observing His signs which He was doing. 24 But Jesus, on His part, was not entrusting Himself to them, for He knew all men, 25 and because He did not need anyone to testify concerning man, for He Himself knew what was in man.

And Jesus had a Response to this as GOD about the requirements of internal dwelling of God and Salvation:

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord
and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
you will be saved.
Romans 10:9

Father God You are still Working. Salvation is only possible as a Gift from God. Let us be loving and encourage others, especially those we Love,  to see You Are a God of Love.God requires little of us for what He has given primarily gratitude and conversation. Father let us willingly give this to you. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Joshua 3:14-4:7 ~ for a very great distance indeed

The house I grew up in looked a lot like this one and here is the link to the house today.

Joshua 3:14-4:7 ~ New American Bible

14 The people struck their tents to cross the Jordan, with the priests carrying the ark of the covenant ahead of them. 15 No sooner had these priestly bearers of the ark waded into the waters at the edge of the Jordan, which overflows all its banks during the entire season of the harvest, 16 than the waters flowing from upstream halted, backing up in a solid mass for a very great distance indeed, from Adam, a city in the direction of Zarethan; while those flowing downstream toward the Salt Sea of the Arabah disappeared entirely. Thus the people crossed over opposite Jericho. 17 While all Israel crossed over on dry ground, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD remained motionless on dry ground in the bed of the Jordan until the whole nation had completed the passage.

Joshua 4:1-7

1 After the entire nation had crossed the Jordan, 2 the LORD said to Joshua, "Choose twelve men from the people, one from each tribe, 3 and instruct them to take up twelve stones from this spot in the bed of the Jordan where the priests have been standing motionless. Carry them over with you, and place them where you are to stay tonight."

4 Summoning the twelve men whom he had selected from among the Israelites, one from each tribe, 5 Joshua said to them: "Go to the bed of the Jordan in front of the ark of the LORD, your God; lift to your shoulders one stone apiece, so that they will equal in number the tribes of the Israelites. 6 In the future, these are to be a sign among you. When your children ask you what these stones mean to you, 7 you shall answer them, 'The waters of the Jordan ceased to flow before the ark of the covenant of the LORD when it crossed the Jordan.' Thus these stones are to serve as a perpetual memorial to the Israelites."

It was an instant miracle, the Jordan parted like the Red Sea. Only it wasn't so sudden, one generation of Israel had passed away, the Lord waited 40 years for the Ark to pass through the Jordan River. In the Lord's time and to serve His purpose, miracles occur. The Lord expects His people to be a holy people.

When God's time was right:

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Dr. James Pritchard, University of Pennsylvania, In 1964, Dr. James Pritchard turned his attention to the Jordanian site of Tell es-Sa'idiyeh, identified as the biblical city of Zarethan. Pritchard, of the University of Pennsylvania, found in 2 months, he hit pay dirt so fast that he hardly caught up with himself. He suspects that in Biblical times the Jordan Valley was the richest and most civilized part of Palestine.

Dr. Pritchard thinks that Zarethan was a city of Canaanites, ruled by the Hebrews in Jerusalem, but he is also convinced that its site was inhabited long before the Hebrew invasion. For one thing, it had plenty of water, a rarity in the Jordan Valley. After spotting springs that still flow from the foot of the mound.

While probing in a slightly lower part of the mound, Dr. Pritchard stumbled by accident upon his most spectacular find: a mud-walled tomb with the skeleton of a woman of high station, perhaps a local queen. She lay with rich grave goods still around her—500 beads of carnelian and 75 of gold, silver pins, a silver chain, four ivory boxes, an ivory spoon with a human head carved on it, and many objects of bronze and pottery. She must have died about 1200 B.C., not long after Joshua stormed the Promised Land.

Link to a Google page of then and now

I grew up in Dallas in a nice neighborhood where the houses were typically on half an acre. As the city got 10 times larger, the houses were torn down and a Jewish Temple that supported and supported one another, enabled a majority of the neighborhood to tear down the old house and build  much, much larger homes. My parents built our house about six years before I was born and my dad drew up the plans based upon Williamsburg architecture.

We had loved that house I grew up in and people occasionally rang the doorbell asking if we wanted to sell. The house had great charm. Daddy told me he had one of the most vivid dreams of his life and spoke of the dream often to me. He dreamed that as he built the house in the 1950s, the house became larger and larger and larger like the Vanderbilt Mansion Biltmore or like Northpark Mall. He couldn't believe how it had grown. He was worried about the cost and the bills. As he wandered and wandered, he became lost. When he returned many years later, like Rip Van Winkle, he found my mother had remarried and was sitting near the front door with her new husband hand in hand. As he was asking, he discovered it was a neighbor she had married.

I read constantly as a child, and one of the books I kept up with for more than a decade was a story of young boy and his friends who discovered an abandoned house in the woods and they all took up a bedroom in the large home and had projects and studies as they pretended to be adults. Later they discovered the home owner had always lived upstairs, but she had so enjoyed seeing the children's projects she allowed them to use her home and develop into the interesting adults she was sure they would become.

The dream and the book merged into my life. My father passed on to Heaven about twenty years ago. The house, if you look at the link at the top of the page, became the Youth Services Building for the Jewish Temple. And is the same color as North Park Mall. If my father were to wander back into our lives for a visit, he would find my 80 year old mother's extremely caring and kind boyfriend is a man from this neighborhood and they have dated for about six years now.

It is a sweet, glorious feeling to know my father had some vision of our future and he would want to come back and see us doing our lives and, yet, remembering him with love.

God - Isaiah 55 says something about this wonderful memory of the time that was so very beautiful.

"Because I, the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, have made you glorious.”

6 Seek the Lord while you can find him.
Call on him now while he is near.

7 Let the wicked change their ways
and banish the very thought of doing wrong.
Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them.
Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously.

8 “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.

9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways
and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

10 “The rain and snow come down from the heavens
and stay on the ground to water the earth.
They cause the grain to grow,
producing seed for the farmer
and bread for the hungry.

11 It is the same with my word.
I send it out, and it always produces fruit.
It will accomplish all I want it to,
and it will prosper everywhere I send it.

12 You will live in joy and peace.
The mountains and hills will burst into song,
and the trees of the field will clap their hands!
13 Where once there were thorns, cypress trees will grow.
Where nettles grew, myrtles will sprout up.
These events will bring great honor to the Lord’s name;
they will be an everlasting sign of his power and love.”

Father God, thank You for Your blessings yesterday, today and tomorrow. Upon You we will rely in the name of Jesus the Lord. Love continues. Amen

Isaiah 43:16, 18-19 ~ making a way

Isaiah 43:16, 18-19

This is what the Lord says— he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

May the Lord our Father God guide us and lead us in the new year and make this year a joy to Him and to us. In the Name of Jesus Christ the Lord. His Will be done. Amen.

Matthew 2:16-18 ~ to be comforted

Matthew 2

16 Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men. 17 Then was fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah:

18 “A voice was heard in Ramah,
weeping and loud lamentation,
Rachel weeping for her children;
she refused to be comforted, because they are no more.”

The tomb of Rachel, “in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem” (Genesis 35:19), had been, probably from the day when the “pillar” which marked it was first set up, one of the sacred places of the land because Rachel is considered a spiritual mother for the Jews. I read today a scathing reply of the Messianic prophecies as being too wobbly to be believed - Matthew 2:18. Jeremiah 31:15 - being very unreliable. Really Rama belonged at one time to Benjamin.

Jesus went to the Samaritans in the fourth chapter in John's Gospel to tell for the first time plainly that He is the Messiah. And just as Rachel and Benjamin were parted as well as Jacob - this is a reminder. This is God, years later, reclaiming the remnant Samaritan Jews thrown out in the Reclamation of Jerusalem after 70 years of captivity in Babylon.

Jacob felt Rachel's death was the most difficult thing in life to bear. And Jesus is born where Rachel died. God did not just weep for Lazarus. God had aspects of life He would draw forth again to heal. Jesus spoke of the prophet Jonah, we do not know his fate - only that Emperor Nebuchadnezzar and the way of discovery the Babylonian Empire wanted to know more about the God of Daniel renamed as Belteshazzar, with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. The fruit of the work of God through Jonah. The slaves were giving prominent homes to meet in for Sabbath Worship of their God. And Ezekiel was given his own house by the river to have peace enough to hear again and again from God.

Father God does not require that we work and work and work. Jesus is there for those who seek Him. He promises Ask and He will be found.

Ezekiel 34
- God is concerned with this life. And our welfare.

Ezekiel 34

23-24 “‘I’ll appoint one shepherd over them all: my servant David. He’ll feed them. He’ll be their shepherd. And I, God, will be their God. My servant David will be their prince. I, God, have spoken.

25-27 “‘I’ll make a covenant of peace with them. I’ll banish fierce animals from the country so the sheep can live safely in the wilderness and sleep in the forest. I’ll make them and everything around my hill a blessing. I’ll send down plenty of rain in season—showers of blessing! The trees in the orchards will bear fruit, the ground will produce, they’ll feel content and safe on their land, and they’ll realize that I am God when I break them out of their slavery and rescue them from their slave masters.

28-29 “‘No longer will they be exploited by outsiders and ravaged by fierce beasts. They’ll live safe and sound, fearless and free. I’ll give them rich gardens, lavish in vegetables—no more living half-starved, no longer taunted by outsiders.

30-31 “‘They’ll know, beyond doubting, that I, God, am their God, that I’m with them and that they, the people Israel, are my people. Decree of God, the Master:

You are my dear flock,
the flock of my pasture, my human flock,
And I am your God.
Decree of God, the Master.’”

God is concerned with our heart. Our earnest heart. When Tyre looted the ruined Jerusalem, glad for its destruction, God felt Tyre's hardness of heart. Recently, Baylor University and University of North Caroline uncovered a mosaic of Ezekiel 26. Alexander the Great visited the Temple to bow to the representative of God. Because Alexander the Great well knew prophecy of God in His Word after making Tyre into mainland in a tremendous military campaign to reach the Island of Tyre. Her ships were never to be seen again, and the island never recovered as Israel did again and again with the blessing and help of Father God. We learn about resiliency from the faith of Israel and more importantly, the Mercy of God - God is Love.

Father God,
We will all have laments before we depart this life. Of choices we made and of people we loved and lost for various reasons. Jesus knew about this and said:

Luke 8:52
Now they were all weeping and lamenting for her; but He said, "Stop weeping, for she has not died, but is asleep."

You tell us this again when Exekiel's wife died.

Ezekiel 24
Groan quietly; do not mourn for the dead. Keep your turban fastened and your sandals on your feet; do not cover your mustache and beard or eat the customary food of mourners.

Jesus grabs and holds our hearts because He weeps for us and with us. This is our Father God of Love. He strengthens us to be real and not anything but earnest. Providing the hope of real recovery.

We believe with You, Father God, what You have told us in Thessalonians we are informed, about those who asleep, we will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. We believe Jesus died and rose again, even and You will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus to eternal life in You.

John 11 ~ for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it

John 11

Now a certain man was ill, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 2 It was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was ill. 3 So the sisters sent to him, saying, “Lord, he whom you love is ill.”

4 But when Jesus heard it he said, “This illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”

5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6 So, when he heard that Lazarus was ill, he stayed two days longer in the place where he was. 7 Then after this he said to the disciples, “Let us go to Judea again.” 8 The disciples said to him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just now seeking to stone you, and are you going there again?” 9 Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. 10 But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.” 11 After saying these things, he said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I go to awaken him.” 12 The disciples said to him, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.” 13 Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he meant taking rest in sleep.

14 Then Jesus told them plainly, “Lazarus has died, 15 and for your sake I am glad that I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.”

16 So Thomas, called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.” 17 Now when Jesus came, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days. 18 Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles off, 19 and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them concerning their brother.

20 So when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary remained seated in the house. 21 Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.”

23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”

24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.”

Several empty tombs are associated with Lazarus. The one tomb causing believers of the world to trace that particular tomb in Larnaca is the one with the message, "Lazarus the friend of Christ".

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

27 She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.”

28 When she had said this, she went and called her sister Mary, saying in private, “The Teacher is here and is calling for you.” 29 And when she heard it, she rose quickly and went to him. 30 Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was still in the place where Martha had met him. 31 When the Jews who were with her in the house, consoling her, saw Mary rise quickly and go out, they followed her, supposing that she was going to the tomb to weep there.

32 Now when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet, saying to him, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”

33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come with her also weeping, he was deeply moved [indignant] in his spirit and greatly troubled. 34 And he said, “Where have you laid him?” They said to him, “Lord, come and see.” 35 Jesus wept. 36 So the Jews said, “See how he loved him!” 37 But some of them said, “Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man also have kept this man from dying?”

38 Then Jesus, deeply moved again, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it.

39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.”

Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, “Lord, by this time there will be an odor, for he has been dead four days.” 40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” 41 So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that you sent me.” 43 When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out.” 44 The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”

45 Many of the Jews therefore, who had come with Mary and had seen what he did, believed in him, 46 but some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. 47 So the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered the council and said, “What are we to do? For this man performs many signs. 48 If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.”

49 But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all. 50 Nor do you understand that it is better for you that one man should die for the people, not that the whole nation should perish.”

Caiaphas Ossuary. Today, Caiaphas is known for the corrupt way he killed a man he knew to be Good.

51 He did not say this of his own accord, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, 52 and not for the nation only, but also to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. 53 So from that day on they made plans to put him to death.

54 Jesus therefore no longer walked openly among the Jews, but went from there to the region near the wilderness, to a town called Ephraim, and there he stayed with the disciples.

55 Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover to purify themselves. 56 They were looking for Jesus and saying to one another as they stood in the temple, “What do you think? That he will not come to the feast at all?” 57 Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that if anyone knew where he was, he should let them know, so that they might arrest him.

Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. It was an important miracle. Yet the raising of the widow's son in Nain, was done in front of many witnesses. For self God glory? Jesus was giving the people of God tools to believe. Jesus was giving people the opportunity to understand His resurrection. To see that God's Promises could, indeed, be true.

Yesterday we read John 16 saying what we ask for from God in faith - is given. This chapter completes the reason why the Sons of Zebedee would ask Jesus to sit at His right hand in His Kingdom. God is fully capable of being God.

Father God, We need to building ourselves up in Your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit. Keeping ourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. And we will have mercy on those who doubt; save others by snatching them out of the fire by the fruits of the Spirit - love, joy and patience with kindness and goodness; to others show mercy with fear in wisdom of their path, separating ourselves from the the flesh willing to do like the gods of the Canaanites - idols who gave up love for financial gain - gave up their own flesh and blood to prosper, even killing innocent babies to shake their blood over profit.

Now blessings of Thanksgiving to Jesus Christ who is able to keep us from stumbling and to present us blameless before the presence of His glory with great joy.

Bring forth goodness and honesty Lord God..Thanks be to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.

John 16:23-33 ~ Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name

John 1:14
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 16:23-33

Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. 24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.

25 “Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father. 26 In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. 27 No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. 28 I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”

29 Then Jesus’ disciples said, “Now you are speaking clearly and without figures of speech. 30 Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone ask you questions. This makes us believe that you came from God.”

31 “Do you now believe?” Jesus replied. 32 “A time is coming and in fact has come when you will be scattered, each to your own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me.

33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world!"

John 1:9
The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.

We have had Christmas. And still this is Christmas Season. We have thought on the willingness of God to come and live our human life. The passage says ask anything in the name of Jesus Christ and ends saying 'we will have trouble'.

The disciples who walked with Jesus in His life, believed Jesus could do this. And asked with their mother for a very large and permanent slice of the pie of Heaven. Based upon what they had seen, Jesus could definitely deliver.

How does this work for us 2,000 years later. Time has gone on down the long road, and yet if you look at the vintage pictures of Israel a hundred years ago, Israel looked about the same as the day Jesus led the disciples to be in awe of Him. Peter informed us this isn't even a day to God. And we believe Jesus and the Word of God are the same from Genesis to Revelation.

How will we look at this verse of absolute conviction that God is going to give you whatever you ask in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord?

Because He will. He says so.

Hebrews 13
20 Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord, 21 equip you in every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen

So. Oh mannn. Only for the Holy, Holy, Holy people. Not quite. God sees us all as needing a Savior. Even the chosen sons of Zebedee. Even Peter. Even Paul casting out John Mark who later wrote... a Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Luke 5:32
I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent.

Great is the Mystery of Faith.
God shows up in the most unlikely of places. When a man is dying of a drug overdose - when told Jesus will save him, rises up from brain death to smile and take the offered hand of Jesus and go Home to Heaven with Jesus. Changing the life of the woman in the room forever. God goes where there is earnest need for His Love. We don't contain God, we glorify Him. And have gratitude He is God. Forever.

God shows up. When earnestly asked.

Luke 4;26-27
26 and yet Elijah was sent to none of them, but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. 27 "And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian."

What is the Good News? God sees us just as we are and decides to save us with His Son. We are transparent before God.

Psalm 26
Prove me, O Lord, and try me;
test my heart and my mind.
3 For your steadfast love is before my eyes,
and I walk in your faithfulness.

We put ourselves as we are before God. And earnestly explain our desires and our actions to Him. Knowing as we cast our cares upon Him, He cares for us. We make ourselves right before Him, best as we can. We will fall and need Jesus. He will be there for us. And invite Him in us again and delight He will answer us.

God loves our journey, our process, our truthful conversation. God loves us yesterday, today, and tomorrow. See what I mean here... 21 times God tells us about Prayer.

Matthew 7:7-11
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. "Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone?

Luke 11:9-13
So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. "For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened. "Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will he?

Matthew 21:22
"And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive."

John 14:13-14
Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. "If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it."

John 15:7
If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

John 15:16
You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.

Psalms 91:14-16
Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name. "He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. "With a long life I will satisfy him And let him see My salvation.

Psalms 50:14-15
Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving And pay your vows to the Most High; Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me.

Psalms 10:17
O LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their heart, You will incline Your ear

Exodus 22:22-23
You shall not afflict any widow or orphan. "If you afflict him at all, and if he does cry out to Me, I will surely hear his cry"

Psalms 102:19-20
For He looked down from His holy height; From heaven the LORD gazed upon the earth, To hear the groaning of the prisoner, To set free those who were doomed to death,

Isaiah 41:17
The afflicted and needy are seeking water, but there is none, And their tongue is parched with thirst; I, the LORD, will answer them Myself, As the God of Israel I will not forsake them.

2 Chronicles 7:14
and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Ezekiel 36:37
Thus says the Lord GOD, "This also I will let the house of Israel ask Me to do for them: I will increase their men like a flock.

Zechariah 10:6
I will strengthen the house of Judah, And I will save the house of Joseph, And I will bring them back, Because I have had compassion on them; And they will be as though I had not rejected them, For I am the LORD their God and I will answer them.

Zechariah 13:8-9
It will come about in all the land," Declares the LORD, "That two parts in it will be cut off and perish; But the third will be left in it. "And I will bring the third part through the fire, Refine them as silver is refined, And test them as gold is tested They will call on My name, And I will answer them; I will say, 'They are My people,' And they will say, 'The LORD is my God.'"

1 John 3:22
and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight.

Mark 11:24
Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you.

1 John 5:14
This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

Matthew 18:19
Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven.

David believed in the Mercy of God even when facing the absolute Word of God. Hezekiah believed in the Mercy of God even when facing the absolute Word of God.

Father God, in good times Praise You for Your Glory. In every day, lean to You in expectation of Your Love pouring down upon our loved ones' lives. In trouble, expect You to teach us a life lesson, to trust You and to pray for Your overwhelming mercy. In all days, to Love You for loving us. Looking forward to our future with hope knowing You are God and You are for us. In the Name of Jesus. Amen.

Email registry at bottom.! “All Scripture is inspired by God” (2 Timothy 3:16). Men “moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God” (2 Peter 1:21). The Holy Spirit carried men along, moving and guiding them as they wrote in their own words what God wanted them to say. The Bible is unique; comprised of 80 separate books, & written over a period of thousands of years by more than 40 writers with one Author, spanning the centuries, different states of peace & war & different situations in life. The Bible answers the question: of who is God, who is man & what can their relationship can be. Although the Bible was written on perishable material and copied by hand for many centuries, its accuracy is not in doubt, proven by Dead Sea Scrolls and papyrus from 2,000 years. The Bible has survived persecution & criticism to be read with great interest in each generation. The Bible gives witness to the greatness of the Creator. A loving Father concerned for all of his creation. With each verse of the bible witnessing to God is love and the multitude & vastness of His attributes. The Bible was written for you. <><
