Luke 5:1-11 ~ to hear the Word of God

Luke 5:1-11

On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on Him - to hear the Word of God,

He was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, 2 and He saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. 3 Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon's, He asked him to put out a little from the land.

And Jesus sat down and taught the people from the boat.

4 And when He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”

 5 And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” 6 And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. 7 They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.

8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” 9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken, 10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon.

And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.”

11 And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed Him.

Today reminded me of our 2nd, long awaited, 17 year wait to go to the Teton Villages.

The weather was keeping us in place.  Today:
Texas had tornadoes, dams being released, flooding, people driving to work in the dark and finding the car flooded. Rescues by boats. A hurricane amount of water, without the Hurricane. Flooding and River Cresting like Hurricane Harvey.

We need a solution to this:
County Planning. Vote on Bonds and Bonds issued.

  • We need the rivers to be dredged and deepened. Allowing the rivers to do their job.

  • We need city streets to be dug down and keep the housing dry.
  •  We need more signs showing flood level foot markers.
  • We need prayer chains.

We need the horror of time crunching EVIL TO STOP. IN THE NAME OF JESUS.

2017
This morning, we were supposed to leave Teton Village very, very early. Our second visit in 17 years. And as the alarm went off, I thought what is that terrible, terrible noise. Then. We couldn't leave!!! God is Good, and we had such fog the parking lot was gone and the Teton Mountains.

Aren't we all fickle people.
Flawed. Sinners. All of us. God tells us 11 times in the Creation Events of Genesis the world is "Good." Now, that is a lot of God repetition. And God, even though He is our Father, that is a lot of repetition. Which we all can agree, would be God saying - like the wonderful God Billboards - "That part about Life being 'Good' - I meant that - God"

And so, God needs a human being to start the Christian Church of Jesus Christ? Doubtful - God's Only Son - is capable fully. Readers find out - the job description is daunting and Simon Peter says he doesn't want the Job. Wow. Wow.

We are fickle, fickle, fickle people. We want 'OUR MIRACLE". But if God is going to do that Loudly. OK.. Or if God wants us to change something. Or if that's uncomfortable. Nevah mind.

And how does Our Father handle the human inconsistencies?

Jesus continued to the Town of Bethesda, hometown of Peter and Andrew, and healed a man who was blind by putting mud and living water on his eyes and sending Him to the Pool of Siloam. Sent. Where Jesus sends me, I'm raising my hand to go there.

2017 Teton Village

This morning - miraculously - we couldn't leave the hotel this morning. Two more hours of sleep. And we 'had' to sit and have breakfast. And fresh fruit. And we had to have cups of coffee. Now feeling refreshed and amazed at the receding fog. And with the delay, we were blessed to arrive at Rocky Mountain National Park at dusk. Awww. We had to see the massive, amazing herds of Elk and Moose gathering to water. We had to see 3 deer almost on our bumper (Thank GOD ). We had to be right up there with 2 Enormous Elk. We ate dinner at our favorite Breakfast Place in Denver. And got to our hotel just as the sun sank. Perfect timing. Thank You, FATHER GOD!!!

The Plans of God are well-made. We all just tend to doubt and fuss and kick up conflict. And believe as dust in the wind - we might matter perfectly and individually planned to our Father God.

Jesus put Himself in the boat.

Jesus put Himself in the boat.

Not to stand apart.

His Life of Grace and Truth told us He thought the fellowship Joy.
Jesus lived our life here, to say He walks with us.

Jesus used the distance of the Boat,
to have the attention of All - His Beloved.
All to learn about Jesus.

John 1:12-14

To all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name,
He gave the right to become children of God—

Children born not of blood, nor of the desire or will of man, but born of God.
The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.
We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father,
full of grace and truth.

We will take our Lamentations and we will search and find this:

Lamentations 3:22-23

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases

His mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.

Romans 8:28
And we know
that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him,
who have been called according to His Purpose.

Recently, we posted this Romans 8:28 is one of the most, Thee Most, sought after verses.  And the researcher said people look because they find this amusing. We have a choice every day

Today, I realized as I got out the crystal stems from France my family collected while we lived there, that my family crystal doesn't have all the pieces. And I wondered about this, suddenly the argument in 1981 after my parents divorced, while I was in college, about the missing crystal was made clear. I argued with my mother that I set the tables for more than a decade and a half and we NEVER had all the crystal. Because the set had never, ever been complete. And she was yelling, this was not so. Factually, we always had two tables, one for the children family and adults family.  The children's table got to have the thimble glasses and the adults had adult sized crystal. It wasn't 12.

The penny dropped. Due to the misery of the divorce, my mother wanted us to experience the depth of her grief. At all levels. Exaggeration was employed, so all would understand, nothing in her life felt complete anymore. We should always live honestly. We are loved for who we truly are.  To put a shield or a mask over things, is to not be known. To not reveal what should be revealed. Allowing us to breathe and explore the depths of all things.  Mother would be in therapy with a Psychologist for 10 years, who refused to comment on anything she said. Eventually, Mother left.

We live in an age when the F word is humor, anger, the coat hanger of anything. We want it to all hang out and be explored. One of the families, of our large and extended families, experienced a very near divorce in front of the Divorce Court and Judge. This was an interesting story. The wife waited up a tree, and when the wandering husband returned home at the usual 3:30, she dropped out of the tree and nearly knocked him out on the driveway.  And then, divorce lawyers were employed, paid a fortune and the fight lasted almost 2 years, as they walked into the Divorce Court, the husband said, you have always driven me right up the tree. And the wife laughed until she couldn't laugh anymore. And he started to laugh. And, soon they were hugging and crying.   They were married almost 54 years. At times, their lives were Operatic. Debts, investments, cancer, cancer, bills, illness in grown children. Bad children marriages. Nursing adult children. Adoring the ones who could sail on, and yet loving those still anchored.

So in about 20 years, they decided to explore the excesses and the empties of the life of Opera.

And like a family reunion, they pulled out all the skeletons in the Psychology of Family Counseling. And then trooped over to more of the family to share the rattling skeletons.  They did this for about a month, and tears had become a big part of life.  Finally, the wife, Matriarch, who had known such skill in climbing trees in the dark and waiting for hours: said, "She was out of this." It was all done, it was all discussed, and it was time to go forward. And in about a year, the rest of the family did agree. Now, I was about 24 years old at the time, and I was fully shocked. Who had ever heard of abandoning Family Counseling?!?

After about a decade, this could be discussed over a glass of wine and a cracker. And the conclusion had been reached, this was like The Prodigal Son. Discuss it, say it, cry about it and then make a path for Love. Peace. Joy. Harmony.

We all bear the burden for ourselves. But how we bear the burden for each other and the future is important too.

The Prodigal Father did not go in after clothing the returning Prodigal and schedule an appointment.
Like Ecclesiastes 3 tells us - there are Seasons. One of the names given to Jesus today is :Way Maker.

Matthew 28:20 ~ I Am with you always

When Joseph was taken to Egypt as by slave traders - he was very young. When Israel was raided by Nebuchadnezzar II, a million people died and the slave trade gained about 40,000 people. The fall of the House of the Children of Israel was great.

Joseph then found a place.

And that was taken. Joseph languished in prison without hope of freedom.

Was anything as bleak? Perhaps Mary. Leaving her family in haste. Her fiancé wondering about her being stoned to death.

Maybe Daniel.

Maybe the Lions were filled when Daniel arrived, how about tomorrow? Had to be worrisome to Daniel. Daniel went on to serve the rest of the Chaldean Babylonian Emperors until Cyrus the Great invaded and Daniel was retired.

When David had to run for his life as a criminal, his father had 7 sons and David had to find a place to hide them - with his parents.

All of the Saints of God
and I want to be one too.

Trouble will define us. What we do with trouble. How we view and look at prosperity. And this does define us too.

All of these very human stories represent flawed humanity. Choices made as life suddenly had harsh winds howl. Choices made from palaces where sunny days never end.

There is absolutely no way for Joseph, Mary, Daniel and David to have made life ok. There is One Promise of the Bible - that was held and lived and given to us to see for ourselves in life.

Matthew 28:20

Remember,
I am with you always,
even to the end of the age.

Why would God Promise us this?

 God, Himself, might be pretty busy.

Matthew 9:36

Jesus had compassion on them,
because they were harassed and helpless,
like sheep without a shepherd.

Hallmark cards. A nice thing. A warm meal. Even better. A phone call. Amazingly, this can really help.

Yet - The Journey of all of these people was what the Bible calls 'Narrow Gate'. God's People are called again and again sheep of His Pasture. We are all on a journey and we can even have a wonderful Benefit BBQ - yet, really, the Journey and Work and Wonder of a Soul to God - is a Journey of Soul.

Joseph - traveled alone.

Mary - made haste alone.

Daniel sat with the Lions, apparently alone.

David found places for his family to hide.

And really - strength was there. God did not leave - nor forsake - nor make easy - nor add in the fast fix - yet, yet, yet - - -
God made strong.
Only one day at a time.
God's Compassion - Available - Seek Him with all our whole heart.

When we find prayer requests - of the Beloved of God - the prayer requests say:
"I'm ok - please help my son, or sister or brother or friend or neighbor - to know the Love and Peace God has for hearts needing our Lord Jesus every day. Help them with marriage, divorce, disease, crisis and in need. Jesus please, You helped me. Amen"

Abba, Holy Father,

We pray with the Blessing of Hannah - for all the parents
who have realized they did their lives with God:

1 Samuel 2

1Then Hannah prayed and said:
“My heart rejoices in the Lord;
in the Lord my horn is lifted high.
My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance.

2 “There is no one Holy like the Lord;
there is no one besides You;
there is no Rock like our God.

3 “Do not keep talking so proudly
or let your mouth speak such arrogance,
for the Lord is a God Who knows,
and by Him deeds are weighed.

4 “The bows of the warriors are broken,
but those who stumbled are armed with strength.
5 Those who were full hire themselves out for food,
but those who were hungry are hungry no more.

She who was barren has borne seven children,
but she who has had many sons pines away.

6 “The Lord brings death and makes alive;
He brings down to the grave and raises up.

7 The Lord sends poverty and wealth;
He humbles and he exalts.

8 He raises the poor from the dust
and lifts the needy from the ash heap;
He seats them with princes
and has them inherit a Throne of Honor.

“For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s;
on them
He has set the world.

9 He will guard the feet of His faithful servants,
but the wicked will be silenced in the place of darkness.

“It is not by strength that one prevails;
10 those who oppose the Lord will be broken.

The Most High will thunder from Heaven;
the Lord will judge the ends of the earth.

“He will give strength to His king
and exalt the horn of His anointed.”

And in the Strength of our Abba,
we place ourselves, our cares,
our Loved ones
the people God has given us.

And Our Nation, our communities,
our employments, our Schools, our Churches.

All the Nations trusting in Him
all the Beloved around the world - calling on Jesus
and for more of the Holy Spirit to bring
more Heaven to our lives
and upon His Good Creation.

Our God who wants to fulfill His Will to save
through Jesus Christ.

Dwell in us, Father,
Dwell in those we Love,
Help us to seek You first
and in Jesus Christ,
we will finish well.

Amen.

Luke 4:38-44 ~ rose

Luke 4:38-44

38 And He arose and left the synagogue and entered Simon's house.

Now Simon's mother-in-law was ill with a high fever, and they appealed to Him on her behalf. 39 And He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her, and immediately she rose and began to serve them.

40 Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and He laid His Hands on every one of them and healed them. 41 And demons also came out of many, crying, “You are the Son of God!” But He rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that He was the Christ.

42 And when it was day, He departed and went into a desolate place. And the people sought Him and came to Him, and would have kept Him from leaving them, 43 but He said to them, “I must preach the good news of the Kingdom of God to the other towns as well; for I was sent for this purpose.”

44 And He was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

Matthew 10:14

"Truly I tell you,
anyone who will not receive the Kingdom of God
like a little child will never enter it.”

Jesus took the children in His arms, placed His Hands on them
and blessed them.

The wonder of this Scripture passage, this is not like Jarvis' daughter. Or the widow of Nain. Peter's mother-in-law isn't said to be dying.  She probably is hoping, as an older lady, this isn't going to turn into death.

Jesus is coming from the Synagogue, worshiping His Father. His mood is the usual Jesus Christ joyous. And He walks over to Peter's mother-in-law and she is free of illness. The wonder of Jesus.  Virus? It's over. The battle of blood cells is vanquished. Bacterial? The battle of invasion is over. Not even remnants of illness weight her down.

And Jesus leaving the room from healing this older woman? Joyous. The Light of the world. Light of mankind. Light of nations. Light of Heaven. To look to Jesus during any season, is to see Light, Joy, Love. Hope.

We thank You for being with us as we pray
over the news.

Prayer is an ongoing conversation.

Abba, Father God,

Help our prayers be fruitful.
Let our conversation about joy, need, praise.
Let it be humble, let it be uplifting.

Thank you, Father, You incline your ear whenever we call upon You.

Heal the hurting, uplift the families.
Send Your vast blessings. Father God,
You are truly are as vast as the Universe itself and as gentle as a breeze.
Speak the Word, Father God, and we know Your healing.

Prayers for healing in health are being answered.
Edward healed rapidly from a sore throat, the dog
recovered from her ear infection and I felt fairly good
as we all fell upon something.

We pray for the work being done at our house
to be well, in patience and in kindness. Completion of the Project.
The painting I'm doing.

Dwell in us, Father.
Help the ones we Love to have You dwelling in them.
Help us to Seek You First.
And we will finish well in Jesus Christ.

Praise Your gift of life in Jesus.
Amen.

Email registry at bottom.! “All Scripture is inspired by God” (2 Timothy 3:16). Men “moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God” (2 Peter 1:21). The Holy Spirit carried men along, moving and guiding them as they wrote in their own words what God wanted them to say. The Bible is unique; comprised of 80 separate books, & written over a period of thousands of years by more than 40 writers with one Author, spanning the centuries, different states of peace & war & different situations in life. The Bible answers the question: of who is God, who is man & what can their relationship can be. Although the Bible was written on perishable material and copied by hand for many centuries, its accuracy is not in doubt, proven by Dead Sea Scrolls and papyrus from 2,000 years. The Bible has survived persecution & criticism to be read with great interest in each generation. The Bible gives witness to the greatness of the Creator. A loving Father concerned for all of his creation. With each verse of the bible witnessing to God is love and the multitude & vastness of His attributes. The Bible was written for you. <><
