Mark is the Gospel written for Peter.
Peter's ministry for Jesus had become beyond pressed for time as the Romans wanted to know all about Jesus Christ. These are Peter's memories of his time with Jesus Christ. Peter directed Mark in the most asked about portions of the Grace upon Grace Ministry of God's Only Son.
This Gospel, in The Holy Spirit, was messenger work.
Scriptures begin and end explaining the writer's understanding in The Holy Spirit.
Today's Liturgy is Mark 1. An interesting choice as we are still in the newness of the New Year. Mark and Peter, in the Holy Spirit, didn't begin with the birth of Jesus Christ. But they did.
1 The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
2 As it is written in Isaiah the prophet,
“Behold, I send my messenger before your face,
who will prepare Your way,
3 the voice of one crying in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of The Lord,
make His paths straight,’”
4 John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness
And proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
And all the country of Judea and all Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. 6 Now John was clothed with camel's hair and wore a leather belt around his waist and ate locusts and wild honey. 7 And he preached, saying, “After me comes He who is mightier than I, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8 I have baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
9 In those days
Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And when He came up out of the water, immediately He saw the Heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on Him like a dove.
11 And a Voice came from Heaven,
“You are My Beloved Son;
with You
I am well pleased.”
12 The Spirit immediately drove Him out into the wilderness.
And He was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan.
And He was with the wild animals,
and the angels were ministering to Him.
We begin in the wilderness. Isaiah foresees this. John is in the wilderness. Jesus is in the wilderness. And like Noah's dove, the people come to the wilderness, to establish their ministry.
We begin in the wilderness. Shepherds were abiding in the field, keeping watch over their sheep by night.
Bethlehem, today, The Shepherd's field.
Yes, the same one through the millenniums.
And the Lord arrives
in the wilderness.
John describes the beginning of The Gospel like this:
John 1
1 In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and
The Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
All things were made through Him,
and
without Him
was not any thing made that was made.
In Him was Life, and
the Life was the Light of men.
5 The Light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has not overcome it.
Mark returns to the wilderness
Jesus overcomes the temptations, being with the animals, and Angels minister to Him. Eight sentences of this 1st Chapter in the Gospel of Mark deal with the wilderness. The untamed and, yet, beautiful aspects of God's Creation. The majority of the earth, even today.
Why would The Lord begin to appeal to us with these examples?
Just as looking at the stars at night, when city lights are few and far between, we connect to the Deeper Aspect of the Lord dwelling within us. The Light of mankind.
All of the long, life stories we know, will encompass difficulty, and troubles. And after Jesus overcomes death, He returns.
The Gospels do not intend to be the beautiful staircase to Heaven, instead they are like Jacob's Ladder. Jacob fought The Angel of the Lord to be Blessed. And as morning rose, Jacob was hurt, but praised and rewarded for his faith and for all of his efforts.

Mark 16:14-16
14 Afterward
He appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at table.
And He rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw Him after He had Risen.
15 And He said to them,
“Go into all the world
and
proclaim the Gospel
to
all of creation.
16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved,
but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
