Mark 16:1-8
1 When the Sabbath was over
Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body.
Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise,
they were on their way to the tomb 3 and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”
4 But when they looked up, they saw that the Stone, which was very large, had been rolled away.
As they entered the Tomb,
they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.
6 “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, Who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here.
See the place where they laid Him.
7 But go, tell His disciples and Peter,
‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see Him, just as He told you.’”
8 Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone,
because they were afraid.
because they were afraid.
Every day of our lives
We have times we are bold and times we worry.
To continue to do good, even with trepidation, is to look for Him.
Seeking and finding.
When Jesus began collecting Disciples, we would do the same?
With certainty, we would choose Peter and Andrew. They chose their lives like Gad, from the 12 Tribes, Gad. Gad, son of Jacob, was known for picking the best properties. Capernaum! Capernaum was new. Lovely. More temperate. View of the Sea of Galilee. Fish. All the Roman Empire living in Judea would want their fish. Great for a job market, nationally. Peter and Andrew had the best house and had plaster walls. Seen, today, in Archaeology - writing in plaster. Not just with the perfect view, next door to the most important building, the Synagogue. Keeping them safe from patrolling Romans. Keeping them in the know with any news.
Ok, Peter.
Not so much Matthew, the ... thug.
Simon the Zealot... ok... but not the exact reputation to have. So ... fairly certain... we, all, probably, would have found and chosen many more Peter, Andrews.
And Jesus did, in finding this preferred placement in James and John.
Their father, Zebedee, had an entire column donation in the Synagogue. Kept up for centuries for the worldwide understanding of Zebedee and James and John. We can find this today in Capernaum. However, Mary, the wife of Zebedee, is not included. This Mary was extremely pushy. Jesus had this fact published for all of eternity, her asking for the great seats in The Kingdom of God, now, recorded for all time.
And yet, Mary was asking for her sons, like Abraham.
And Mary was asking for the Blessing of God the Almighty, like Jacob.
Very like Jacob.
"Mary. Mary. Mary," Jesus was known to say.
How ironic, so many Mary names. Oh, but this is the History of God. And He is known to use coincidences. Like Peter... being married. MARRIED. Yes, not an accident.
Mary Mary Mary because God says if you do the will of God you are Blessed.
Blessed Mary.
This Mary, mother of James, makes the History of God again in Mark's Gospel, Chapter 16. Mary, Mary, Mary. She is like Mary the Mother of God going forth to do a Mother's job. Her Mary, Mother of God, friend was pierced to the heart, her core, we learn from Simon, Luke Chapter 2, during Jesus' Infant Presentation.
Mary, Mother of God is told about the ending of the Life of our wonderful Jesus.
Mary in the Holy Spirit. And Mary, mother of James and John, is like the Disciples. Human fear, human bewilderment. Yet, Mary's life filled with the Holy Spirit. A Hero because of The Lord.
Flawed. Imperfect. Would Jesus have picked this Mary? He did. He surely did.
Bravery. Daily.
And an example of the Garden of Gethsemane. Guess we see many. Gethsemane. An English coincidence. For Today's generation.
BOLDLY,
Defy having your name known by the Romans crucifying Jesus.
And yet...
Traveling at daybreak, so only the sheep see you.
Comfort your friend, Mary Mother of God, but go early, early way to stay alive, to tell her later. Mary Mother of God will be comforted, both to have her Son comforted and to know Mary, mother of James and John, is still alive. Whew.
This First Easter is so hop scotched up, they have NO IDEA how to really accomplish the complete job. And so overwhelmed to miss the importance of gaining entrance to Jesus' Body. Only these traveling women hope to help everyone.
Philippians 4:19
And my God
will supply
every need of yours
according to His Riches
in Glory
in Christ Jesus.
Without a doubt, Philippians 4:19, is a wonderful verse.
However, Mary, mother of James and John, was acting upon a desire to be kind and brave and supremely helpful to the Son of God, about 3 decades before Paul would convert and write in the Holy Spirit Philippians 4:19.
We find Mary, the bossy Jacob like, mother of James and John, was so closely living the will of God, she would see Philippians 4:19 fulfilled without knowing God's Scripture. Her Spirit of God within said seek and find. Seek and find. Seek and find. And as surely as GOD helped Abraham with his son, God helped Mary, mother of James and John. The Tomb was opened - by a miraculous event.
And they are so overwhelmed to lose Jesus not reliably in their midst, (Jesus said days will come) they find the detail of completion, to open the tomb, is just remembered. Jesus is going to have to fulfill every dot and iota. Who has known the mind of God and Who has given Him Counsel.
Coincidentally, we will quote James, since both Mary Mother of God and Mary mother of James and John have James sons:
James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above,
coming down from the Father of Lights,
with Whom
there is no variation or shadow
due to change.
Mary, mother of James, is to have another coincidence with Mary, Mother of God. Her son James is the only one mentioned here. He is the first Disciple to quickly pass on. He is mentioned in this Chapter, deliberately. Why? Mary will remember she "Comforted" Mary and as her grief heals, she will know God has known her own "Comfort" and she will have The Holy Spirit's Comfort.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Blessed
be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
The Father of mercies
and
God of all comfort,
Who comforts us in all our affliction,
so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction,
with the comfort
with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
Hebrews 11 tells us by faith, we know Mary had supreme comfort in her recovery, from God. Jabez prayed not to know pain. We hope this for Mary.
THE STONE IS ROLLED AWAY!
JESUS IS ALIVE!
Mary is now informed by an Angel of God
Exactly how large are the Works of God in Jesus Christ... TODAY
And Mary promptly does what she didn't do, again, she forgets to
PROCLAIM JESUS RISEN.
And again, Jesus is the fulfillment of every dot and iota
and
the Works of Jesus
are Proclaimed.
After all, Our God is Profoundly Capable and Entirely Steadfast. God of Mercy.
God of Encouragement. Our Living God. He upholds the Universe with... His Word.
Ancient of Days.
We are not God. He is. And His Word and Promises are CERTAIN TO BE
THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE.

Mark 4:30–32
And He said,
“With what can we compare the Kingdom of God,
or
what parable shall we use for it?
31 It is like a grain of mustard seed,
which, when sown on the ground,
is the smallest of all the seeds on earth,
Yet, when it is sown
it grows up and becomes larger
than
all
the garden plants
and puts out large branches,
so that the birds of the air
can make
nests
in its shade.”
