The Lord loves the gates of Zion

It's never a coincidence
to be
within God's Plan
And Patrick is the Largest Saint
And falls within Lent.
What faith did Patrick have
to survive

Patrick looked for the Lord and planned to meet what was asked of him by The Lord. Believing the Lord was his strength. Relentlessly hopeful. And nothing Patrick did was easy or had 'cush' surrounding his life. When Patrick dreamed to run away from the household holding him in slavery for 6 years, the slaveholders counted on Patrick not leaving because he was foreign and would be lost. His nickname was Holy Boy. Ready to care and help.
Patrick knew how far he had travelled along the coastline in the slave ship. And once he dreamed he should run, he did. 200 miles. And once he recognized the ship, he knew travelled back to Britain, the Captain was not about to help one escape. Patrick could have given up. God sent a reason for the slave ship to flee from violent Celtic attack. Then being lost on his home island and in hunger. Praying and having immediate help to find a successful hunt. This prayer and answer impressed the entire ship. Then directions home.
Dreaming, from The Lord, they all cried out for the Holy Boy to come back and teach them about God, no one wanted him to go. No one wanted him to arrive as a free man. Not kings, not authorities, not his slave owners, not the small Church. Not the Druids ruling Ireland.
How did Patrick overcome the violent hostility without a lasting welcome?
Romans 12:18
If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
And when Peace wasn't possible?
2 Corinthians 5:6-8
So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, 7 for we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

Patrick excommunicated the evil

The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.
Patrick wasn't going to keep kicking the goads. It was a waste of time. The good fight isn't the harangue. It is not endless supposition. The Good Fight is waiting upon The Lord. Then the teachable moment or the no surrender.

For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from Him.
There was not a single way Patrick could make the human sacrifice, slaveholders, with power, happy with Patrick. Patrick's parents begged him not to endanger himself. No way Ireland was going to give up the evil, serpents.
And yet, like William Wilberforce, the culture improved.
It was, simply, an act of faith meeting The Work of God's Plan. His Word carried them through.
Like the Exodus, the 500-year slaves were not eager to starve or freeze in the desert.
Like Mary, returning to Nazareth, how would this work?
Mary was unwed when Jesus was born. Mary was unwed when Jesus, as an infant, was presented at The Temple. Her parents didn't mind she left town to see Zechariah and Elizabeth. Her parents didn't argue Mary needed to stay in Nazareth and not travel the miles to Bethlehem.
Why would the small town of Nazareth welcome a young family who had hastily, hastily left town and then ended up in Egypt? Egypt? Who goes to Egypt? It's not done.
And as Jesus began His Ministry, twice the town of Nazareth records the family of Joseph the carpenter (no longer referred to as Son of David) was seamless. How did Mary carry this off? How did Joseph carry this off?
How did Patrick carry this off? How did William Wilberforce manage to hang in there for the decades without any progress in abolishing slaver?
They had Help. Something to remember in Lent. They had Help.
