Romans 4:13-18 ~ Why it depends on Faith

Matthew 13:32-33

 

It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown 

it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, 

so that 

the birds of the air come 

and 

make nests in its branches.

Romans 4:13-18

For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith. 14 For if it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void. 15 For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression.

16 That is why it depends on faith

In order that the Promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, 17 as it is written, “I have made you the father of many nations”—in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist. 18 In hope he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told, “So shall your offspring be.”

Galatians 3:29

And if you belong to Christ, 

then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.

Romans 4:3

 

For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, 

and it was counted to him 

as righteousness.”

  

Genesis 15:6

Abram believed the LORD, 

and it was credited to him as righteousness.  

  

James 2:23

And the Scripture was fulfilled that says, 

“Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” 

and he was called a friend of God.

Hebrews 11:8-12

By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, without knowing where he was going. By faith he dwelt in the promised land as a stranger in a foreign country. He lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same Promise. For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, 

whose architect and builder 

is God    

 

Romans 1:17

For the Gospel reveals the righteousness of God 

that comes by faith from start to finish, 

just as it is written: 

“The righteous will live by faith.”

Romans 10:10

For with your heart you believe

 and are justified, 

and with your mouth you confess 

and 

are saved 

Abba, Father!
