Lent is approaching. And this is a very good season to examine the times and ways you personally draw near to the Lord. When I worked with Pro Life, we often heard from women in dire circumstances they felt apart from God. When we suggested listening to Christian Radio, the ladies came back with more joy saying God had helped them to be near Him.

Another cousin-in-law of mine said he had difficulty feeling God was near. And he felt so much more calm and in peace and safety while he listened to Gregorian Hymn Chant. 15th Century Gregorian Chant recorded by monks. For a long time Edward and I did not exactly appreciate the Chants. And then Edward looked for the Hymn Chants he liked. And I found I liked the Hymns Edward liked. Today, many years later, we like the Hymns. And feel much more in tune with Jesus to listen.
Remember, Monks fed the world. Educated for literacy.
Especially after the decimation
of the Black Plaques.
After Henry VIII decimated the monasteries, starvation was the cause of death of 1/3 of his subjects. Monasteries started the idea of works and healing and fulfilled this by beginning the first hospitals during plague.
And if that does not move your heart, remember they taught farming, bee keeping and made jolly good beer for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Water supplies and that.
