⁸ When Israel saw Joseph’s sons, he said, "Who are these?" ⁹ Joseph said to his father, "They are my sons, whom God has given me here." And he said, "Bring them to me, please, that I may bless them." ¹⁰ Now the eyes of Israel were dim with age, so that he could not see. and in them let my name be carried on, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude [let them be like fish for multitude] in the midst of the earth."

¹⁷ When Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand on the head of Ephraim, it displeased him, and he took his father’s hand to move it from Ephraim’s head to Manasseh’s head. ¹⁸ And Joseph said to his father, "Not this way, my father; since this one is the firstborn, put your right hand on his head." ¹⁹ But his father refused and said, "I know, my son, I know. He also shall become a people, and he also shall be great. Nevertheless, his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his offspring shall become a multitude [fullness] of nations." ²⁰ So he blessed them that day, saying,

"By you Israel will pronounce blessings, saying, 'God make you as Ephraim and as Manasseh.'"

Thus he put Ephraim before Manasseh. ²¹ Then Israel said to Joseph, "Behold, I am about to die, but God will be with you and will bring you again to the land of your fathers. ²² Moreover, I have given to you rather than to your brothers one mountain slope that I took from the hand of the Amorites with my sword and with my bow."

If we could all sign up to have a blessing from Israel, wouldn't we? Jacob thought blessings were important enough to steal. He believed in them. Only words. Yet more. Jacob wrestled God Himself for a blessing. God is rather, overwhelmingly, fond of Israel.

Galatians 3:6
Consider Abraham: "He believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness."

James 2:22-23
You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God.

Israel believed he lived a life of meaning. Believing his mere words mattered. As a friend of God. How much more for us, the children God has adopted in Jesus Christ.

Revelation 7:5-12

The king also made a great ivory throne and overlaid it with the finest gold. The throne had six steps, and at the back of the throne was a calf’s head, and on each side of the seat were armrests and two lions standing beside the armrests, while twelve lions stood there, one on each end of a step on the six steps. The like of it was never made in any kingdom.

The Fall of Israel

⁶In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria, and he carried the Israelites away to Assyria and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

Exile Because of Idolatry

⁷And this occurred because the people of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods ⁸ and walked in the customs of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel, and in the customs that the kings of Israel had practiced. ⁹And the people of Israel did secretly against the LORD their God things that were not right. They built for themselves high places in all their towns, from watchtower to fortified city. ¹⁰They set up for themselves pillars and Asherim on every high hill and under every green tree, ¹¹and there they made offerings on all the high places, as the nations did whom the LORD carried away before them. Assyria Resettles Samaria

²⁴ And the king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, Cuthah, Avva, Hamath, and Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the people of Israel. And they took possession of Samaria and lived in its cities. ²⁵And at the beginning of their dwelling there, they did not fear the LORD. Therefore the LORD sent lions among them, which killed some of them. ²⁶So the king of Assyria was told, "The nations that you have carried away and placed in the cities of Samaria do not know the law of the god of the land. Therefore he has sent lions among them, and behold, they are killing them, because they do not know the law of the god of the land." ²⁷Then the king of Assyria commanded, "Send there one of the priests whom you carried away from there, and let him go and dwell there and teach them the law of the god of the land." ²⁸So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and lived in Bethel and taught them how they should fear the LORD.

They do not fear the LORD, and they do not follow the statutes or the rules or the law or the commandment that the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel. ³⁵The LORD made a covenant with them and commanded them, "You shall not fear other gods or bow yourselves to them or serve them or sacrifice to them, ³⁶but you shall fear the LORD, who brought you out of the land of Egypt with great power and with an outstretched arm. You shall bow yourselves to him, and to him you shall sacrifice. ³⁷And the statutes and the rules and the law and the commandment that he wrote for you, you shall always be careful to do. You shall not fear other gods, ³⁸and you shall not forget the covenant that I have made with you. You shall not fear other gods, ³⁹but you shall fear the LORD your God, and he will deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies." ⁴⁰However, they would not listen, but they did according to their former manner.

⁴¹ So these nations feared the LORD and also served their carved images. Their children did likewise, and their children’s children—as their fathers did, so they do to this day.

It's interesting, to me, King Solomon used lions decorated his throne and the steps leading up to the throne. When usurpers ended the Davidic line, lions began to attack them.

Critics of the Bible say the Bible comes up with a reason for devastating news. Yet burning children as a sacrifice should cause all of us to want justice. The next, the 18th Chapter, of 2nd Kings, bring Hezekiah back to the Temple when his father had tried to stealthy abandon Jehovah and His Temple for Hezekiah to dismantle the gold to ransom Judah as a puppet/client state. Hezekiah and the people of Judah get very busy praying, seeking God, digging amazing water tunnels available for viewing today and are very miraculously saved from the Assyrians, not just vicious next door neighbors, but the Assyrian Empire.

Cause and effect, a very real and understandable set of circumstances. A very real history.

When we look to the Scriptures for meaning for our lives today, the passage would point out to us God isn't judging the irreligious, but the righteous. Scary. Father God says to the religious, you are putting on a nice show, but your real concerns and interests lay in other places. Idols of money making before God. Success before God. Money and ambition before family needs. Self instead of helping a friend. Comfort before integrity. Personal issues of like and dislike overcoming duty.

We need a Savior. Someone saying to Father God, I understand what it is to be fearful of losing a brother or a child to death. I understand working until fatigue chases away sleep. Diligent labor until pain. Fear of illness. Fear of hunger. Fear of real need. - We do. We have Jesus Christ as our advocate - telling His Father, adopting us, telling our Father, "I understand the real depths of human need and why it causes sin." We have God - who chose to dwell among us as grace and truth. And in Jesus, we discover, the willingness of God to help us. Then. Today. Our response to the steadfast Love of God is the willingness to walk in His ways.

John 5:17

In our county, we are part of a 3 county wildfire going on in Texas. The stock markets. Politics. 3 Wars. Republican Presidential Nomination debate the WWII draft and how fair it was. The children of Ismael and the Children of Israel have trouble. Earthquakes.

Television documentaries - interviews with the families of the World Trade Center families - a loved one passed on. Children. The passengers of United 93, fighting to get home and not allowing the jet to kill more people - praying together the Lord's Prayer.

Each of the surviving family members are living their lives to bring honor to the lives of the ones they loved. Remembering them. Putting their fears behind them. Rebuilding. The work of the Holy Spirit. Each day gathering strength knowing Psalm 113 would be for us and for the ones we love, living or in God's Eternal Kingdom.



Job 33:26
then man prays to God, and he accepts him; he sees his face with a shout of joy, and he restores to man his righteousness

Thousands of years ago Job wondered why suffering existed. And learned to trust God to bring forth His plan, His healing. As Job trusted, he healed.

God raises us. He lifts us. He gives.

How will Psalm 126 appear to you today? Will you see it as God's promises of Heaven? Will you see it as gratitude ? Gratitude for the gifts in your life?

Lets look at this Psalm today as..... the Willingness of God.... to hear, to bless, like Psalm 23:5b-6

My cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.

I love the Truth of the Scriptures. It's never the glass is full or empty, it's.... real. We anticipate God being like us. I only have so much of my casserole for my dinner group.... I hope Jack won't have too much.... but Edward needs more and so his plate needs a bit more.

God doesn't give us a couple of ties or a sweater and say to us - now feel full. Love with me, please, how real Psalm 126 is. We acknowledge our blessings..... we've celebrated life with people we love. We give God thanks for our eyesight, for hearing, for health. For a job, for opportunities to come. For the people we were, and are, fortunate enough to love. And have been fortunate to be able to give the gift of giving to.

Psalm 126 acknowledges our lives are blessed and could use some more blessings. It gives us hope and assurance, God doesn't say, "nope, you are blessed enough and my warehouse of blessings is spent."

Amazingly, Jesus Christ has been celebrated for good reason for over 2000 years. God doesn't just give us His blessings for a day, for the continuation of eternal life - for the next life; God gives us the hope of blessings to come. The blessings He will willingly provide.

Shouts of joy ! Will be needed!

Praise to You, Father, for Your great Glory. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Several prayer requests for today: Tropical Storm Lee, pray for the wildfires the winds have created such dry conditions. Please pray to the Lord for the rain Texas so desperately needs. We've had 6 inches of rain for the year - desert rations. Our county and 2 others are on fire, bringing firemen from Alaska, NC, and all over Texas. The firemen have asked for chapstick and replacement t-shirts. So sad.

The next is for Scripture for Today Blogspot. I looked at new formats a few months ago and having had the Blogger folks look at it, it appears I broke the html links sending info to Google. Which has led to a fall in readership from around 500 Scripture reading Partners to 90. I believe in the narrow gate, if we have 5 Scripture Partners, we have the LORD's love.

Having put usually 2 hours a day since 2007, it still concerns me. We have a Texas A&M Computer Science Aggie who is going to fix it for us. He's part of our Church family, our student youth group, and thank God for people who can understand all of this. Fixing an html code for the whole 5 year blog isn't my forte. So, a praise to God for this being in the works. When I've read about Google bots algorithms, I realize this isn't going to fix overnight. So, please pray for the opportunity for these words to be sent out.

19 But Jews came from Antioch and Iconium, and having persuaded the crowds, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead. 20 But when the disciples gathered about him, he rose up and entered the city, and on the next day he went on with Barnabas to Derbe. 21 When they had preached the gospel to that city and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, 22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God. 23 And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed.


24 Then they passed through Pisidia and came to Pamphylia. 25 And when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia, 26 and from there they sailed to Antioch, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work that they had fulfilled. 27 And when they arrived and gathered the church together, they declared all that God had done with them, and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles. 28 And they remained no little time with the disciples.


When we think of our own faith in the LORD, we see - usually - a much quieter faith. And even though I've experienced and seen miracles in life, I wonder sometimes about a faith looking more like Acts 14. Jesus' disciples went through great times with Jesus, fearful times, disappointment with God for not being the power on earth they'd hoped Him to be and then fear for their lives. These men are new disciples, who've experienced Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit and not seeing Jesus physically.

We have a tool available to us today, we don't often think of. How many times God has helped us. Without a grateful heart, when we gather, how will we be able to Praise Him and rejoice in the actions we have 'a hunch' God blessed us with? These men drew together to give thanks. We quench the Spirit of God when we don't look, actively, for His blessings. An attitude of gratitude. These men expected God to act and expected to gather in awe and reverence. Even in the supreme trouble of experiencing Jesus, they wanted to give Him thanks.

Hebrews 12:28-29
Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.

Labor Day Weekend wasn't the best for us. Many years ago, we just lucked into - were God blessed into - really good pre-marriage counseling. Our Episcopal Priest marrying us was Rev. Mike Wallens and Mike is a wise man. We read a book called, Finding Intimacy. Basically it covers expectations and stages in life planning. Mike told us good marriage requires marriage counseling at different life stages. He gave us examples of himself and his wife being married for 20 years and going for marriage counseling as a tune up. I'm not sure I believed this was needed for us at the time. And I probably thought marriage counseling for a marriage counseling priest is like a car for a car dealer.

So, Edward has a new stage in life, empty nester with a desire to use his talents of hand-to-eye coordination. And I am an empty nester, with an antique business that has done like many antique businesses in this economy, boop. Gone. Add to the mix, 3rd anniversary coming up of our infant daughter Isabelle's going to be with the LORD.

Expectations for 3 days of disc golf for a man who played the Master's Tournament and did well vs. wife with plans for a day trip to the beach meet Tropical Storm Lee. It was not a win-win situation. We debated... loudly. We debated in several rooms. We debated in the evening, late night, morning and shower. I'm not even sure the dog was pleased. I'm sure, he didn't like it either.

I love Psalm 107. It hits me right where I live.

²⁶They mounted up to heaven; they went down to the depths;
their courage melted away in their evil plight;
²⁷they reeled and staggered like drunken men
and were at their wits’ end. [and all their wisdom was swallowed up]
²⁸ Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble,
and he delivered them from their distress.
²⁹He made the storm be still,
and the waves of the sea were hushed.
³⁰Then they were glad that the waters were quiet,
and he brought them to their desired haven.

The desired haven is evident. We love each other, and ultimately we are the desired haven for each other. So, tired of arguing, we went to our Pastor, Clark Lowenfield. Clark helped us when Isabelle died and we talked about Job. Clark helped us when Edward had a new business and things were very thin and uncomfortable. We talked about the gifts of God and how to be grateful for what is provided.

So, we had a great and entertaining talk. Clark is an interesting man with evangelical and practical outlook on life. All that in one person. And Clark said, you've had your years of honeymooning, years of babies and Edward being the really great dad. And you've had your years of youth ministry and that was wonderful. Edward didn't spend those years hunting, fishing, golfing or being anywhere but with you all. Now these are Edward's years to be Edward. Transition times. Husband, not neglecting, striving to seek a balance, but Edward's years. Using the talent's God has given him. Not neglecting, but marriage adding to his life.

So.... Clark is right. When I read about golf widows it is really terrible to become a single mom while being married with children. Dads need to be dad. Shared family life as well as being themselves. But we are empty nesters. Clark made an interesting point. Middle age is about transitioning into old age. Becoming who we are to be. Made to be.

Am I just happy about this. No. I've had a really good cry for the stages of life where I'd like to be. I'm a wife, I'm supposed to plan and have time with my husband and he's going to disc golf some on Saturdays and Sundays. And he's going to plan time with me on the weekends. But I will miss the days when he was my constant half.

But I am married to someone who has some God given wisdom himself. Edward said you know it doesn't help to be told to get a hobby. Suggestions have been made for another antique business or helping the Pregnancy Assistance Center. It's too soon after Isabelle, it sounds terrible. Edward said it's like the stage in life when you are single and you feel like you are just dying to find the perfect person and they don't show up. But one day, God's plan starts to unfold. Edward said relax, and it will be placed in front of you. An opportunity that is appealing. I'm believing that. I pray and wait upon the Lord. In the mean time, I have a couple of things I'm going to try.


Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Father God, Jesus told us to pray and not give up. You give ministry and we will not lose heart. You've said there will be times we age or waste away, yet You renew us each day. We will be doing good, counting on You to provide the harvest. In You will I hope. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Being in a Rut. Doing the same things and having the same thoughts. I've heard a female marriage counselor friend say the most challenging thing to making permanent and good changes to any situation, is the short cuts we take in communication with each other.

We develop our own paths and they are understood.

Father God, we open our hands to You, to guide us. Let us each day fill our day with being helpful, being cheerful, being honest with each other. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Recently I read Ezekiel 5. I felt it was too gloomy to want to write about it. Ezekiel discovers how deep and how extensive God's judgement will be for Jerusalem. For Judah. In the 5th chapter of Ezekiel, the Lord says He has spoken several times.

So, today, I am freely writing of Psalm 10. A Psalm of oppression and seemingly unending opposition.

Why not be a blog, a person, a faith only looking at the Psalms with amazing depths of goodwill? Blessings from a Willing LORD, unending. With God all things are possible. God is a God of Love.

We look at these passages, because we do experience set backs. This Scripture is written from your Father to you. I had a friend long ago who took her spirited 2-3 year old to the pediatrician. The tests run at the doctors office had results showing an ear infection and malnutrition. Overall her son looked like a good looking boy. The pediatrician sat down next to my friend on the examining table and said, "What do you think about your son's condition? His blood tests..." Like one friend to another. My friend confessed her son wouldn't eat anything but formula and Oreo cookies. She said she wasn't going to confess this but the pediatrician was taking his time with her. The pediatrician said, if he had his choice he might live on Oreos and milk, but he'd have trouble getting to work and walking and eventually tying his shoes. The reason he didn't live on cookies and milk - really the doctor had enough grown sense to know not to do this.

So, the doctor concluded, it wasn't fun to endure the tantrums but being placed in a position of guidance, she needed to guide. She needed to let him be hungry enough to eat real food. (No, I hear you thinking it was my son, but not this time!)

The Scriptures tell us we should realize we have troubles in this life. Look Up.

O LORD, you hear the desire of the afflicted;
you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear
to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed,
so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.

We believe in God. God is Love. God hears us. Jesus, our advocate says He prays for us in signs to deep for words. Not to take us out of the world. To keep us from evil.

Psalm 138

Of David.

I give you thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart;
before the gods I sing your praise;
² I bow down toward your holy temple
and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness,
for you have exalted above all things
your name and your word.
³ On the day I called, you answered me;
my strength of soul you increased.

⁴ All the kings of the earth shall give you thanks, O LORD,
for they have heard the words of your mouth,
⁵ and they shall sing of the ways of the LORD,
for great is the glory of the LORD.

The Book of Romans is something we, as Christians, toss into the category of another Book in the New Testament. In Proclaiming ~ Jesus as Lord ~ the foundations of the world order were Changing! It begins to tell us of the Impact of God's Son Choosing to come into the world as Truth and Grace.

The Book of Romans must have been written prior to 49 A.D, at that time, Jews were expelled by the Roman Emperor from Rome. Much of the Book of Romans is proclaiming to the Jews that the Grace of God is to all of mankind. Already Paul was telling Christians to submit to authorities, in Chapter 13. Claudius did not want his power questioned, he wanted a pure strain of Eleusinian Greek mysteries deifying the Roman Emperor. Claudius was stirred to action when Jews and Christians argued to the point of uproar over claims Jesus was, and still is, today, the Messiah. The druids were also removed from Rome, for good measure.

Short work for a little known religion springing out of the outskirts of provincial Judea! Not really a surprising amount of time or attention for the Son of God. Jesus working miracles in bringing the hearts of His people to know and love Him. Imagine, in just about 16 YEARS after Jesus took his disciples to talk about the power in the world in Caesarea, Matthew 16:16-28 , Jesus' predictions about Rome, the Empire of the whole world, are already happening.

No media, no newspaper, no internet. The Slow Boat. A man died in a provincial province of the Roman Empire. His cross read - "King of the Jews" - killed for claiming to be God's Son.

Paul says in the Book of Romans, the Good News of Jesus Christ is being proclaimed in all the world. Jesus Christ is receiving vast attention in the heart of the Roman Empire, Rome itself and the Emperor.

John 1:1-5, 9-14
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Father God, we thank You for Your Son. How often we accept without wonder Your words. We give You thanks, You are the light of the world. Amen.

Praise the LORD!

The people of God praise Him for His mercies and care. Praising God is not work, but is the only gift given to the creator, the Most High God, our Father. Thanksgiving is the only sacrifice that is pleasing wholly to God. We cannot give Him gifts He gave us. It becomes us as reasonable creatures, much more as people in covenant with God! Salvation only comes from God, with Him all things are possible. God sent His son, not to condemn the world, but to save the world. He gathers outcast sinners by His grace, and will bring them into His holy habitation. To those whom God heals with the consolations of his Spirit, He speaks peace, assures them their sins are pardoned. And for this, let us praise Him also! Man's knowledge is soon ended; but God's knowledge is so deep that can never be fathomed. And while He tells the number of the stars, He hears the broken-hearted sinner.

While He feeds the young ravens, He will not leave his praying people destitute. Clouds look dull and melancholy, yet without them we could have no rain, and no fruit. Thus afflictions look black and unpleasant; but from clouds of affliction come showers that make the soul to yield the peaceable fruits of righteousness. The psalmist does not delight where sinners trust and glory; but a serious and suitable regard to God is: faith. We are not to be in doubt between hope and fear, but to act under the gracious influences of knowing faith, hope and love in a gracious Father. ~ Paraphrase, Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary

Colossians 1:9-14 ~ in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins

⁹ And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, ¹⁰ so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.

¹¹ May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, ¹² giving thanks [patience, with joy giving thanks] to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. ¹³ He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, ¹⁴ in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.


One of the striking things about the New Testament is the fervor the disciples prayed for the people they met in their travels. Of course, Jesus tells us that He is working and His Father is working today. The Holy Spirit bares witness that the sighs of our spirit are the unceasing prayer of our advocate, God's Spirit.

Pray for family and friends. Usually it is one word will do and an image. Jesus holding the person. Really God understands this prayer. The name of Jesus is better than all words put together.

- to know God’s will (verse 9)
- to do God’s will (verse 10)
- grow in the knowledge of God (verse 10)
- experience God’s power (verse 11)
- persevere as Christians (verse 11)
- thankful for all that God has done for them (verse 12)

This is also the parable of the seeds Jesus gave us. That we might be the good seeds falling on good soil. Not judging others in their journey, but offering the prayer of encouragement. The Steadfast Love of Jesus. Holding us. Let us always be the one of the 10, cleansed, healed and ready to give thanks to our Father.

³⁸ And he arose and left the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was ill with a high fever, and they appealed to him on her behalf. ³⁹ And he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her, and immediately she rose and began to serve them.

⁴⁰ Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and he laid his hands on every one of them and healed them. ⁴¹ And demons also came out of many, crying, "You are the Son of God!" But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.

⁴² And when it was day, he departed and went into a desolate place. And the people sought him and came to him, and would have kept him from leaving them, ⁴³ but he said to them, "I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well; for I was sent for this purpose." ⁴⁴ And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea [Galilee].

Jesus wasn't one who lived in the Temple. Anna lived in the Temple, waiting to see the Messiah.

Luke 2:36-38
³⁶And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, ³⁷and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. ³⁸And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.

Simeon as well.

Luke 2:25-32
Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. ²⁶And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. ²⁷And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law, ²⁸he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said,
²⁹"Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace,
according to your word;
³⁰for my eyes have seen your salvation
³¹ that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
³² a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and for glory to your people Israel."

Simeon and Anna were godly people, living their lives, in God's plan for them. Luke's 2nd chapter, shows again when Jesus stays behind to debate the teachers of the law, practically living in the Temple - God's Son does not live in the Temple.

Many portions of Scripture tell us to plan for our lives, make our choices wisely. Anna and Simeon chose, in God's plan to live in His Temple. While Jesus never said He wanted to live in the Temple, the Scriptures do record Jesus saying his adult hometown was Capernaum, off of the Sea of Galilee.

Matthew 4:13
And leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali



We see in today's passage a glimpse of Jesus. Always God's Son. Always a Teacher. Always willing to Heal. Yet in this passage, Jesus the Son of God sent to be fully human, fully divine tells us about leaving Capernaum. He must. He was sent. To send the Good News.

Jesus. Our Savior. A man with choices.

Matthew 8:20
And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”
