Luke 4:38-44
English Standard Version, David Cochran Audio Bible38 And he arose and left the synagogue and entered Simon’s house. Now Simon’s mother-in-law was ill with a high fever, and they appealed to him on her behalf. 39 And he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her, and immediately she rose and began to serve them.
40 Now when the sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to him, and he laid his hands on every one of them and healed them. 41 And demons also came out of many, crying, "You are the Son of God!" But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.
42 And when it was day, he departed and went into a desolate place. And the people sought him and came to him, and would have kept him from leaving them, 43 but he said to them, "I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well; for I was sent for this purpose." 44 And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea [Galilee].
Jesus wasn't one who lived in the Temple. Anna lived in the Temple, waiting to see the Messiah.
Luke 2:36-38
36And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, 37and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. 38And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.
Simeon as well.
Luke 2:25-32
Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. 26And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. 27And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law, 28he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said,
29"Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace,
according to your word;
30for my eyes have seen your salvation
31 that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and for glory to your people Israel."
Simeon and Anna were godly people, living their lives, in God's plan for them. Luke's 2nd chapter, shows again when Jesus stays behind to debate the teachers of the law, practically living in the Temple - God's Son does not live in the Temple.
Many portions of Scripture tell us to plan for our lives, make our choices wisely. Anna and Simeon chose, in God's plan to live in His Temple. While Jesus never said He wanted to live in the Temple, the Scriptures do record Jesus saying his adult hometown was Capernaum, off of the Sea of Galilee.
Matthew 4:13
And leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali
We see in today's passage a glimpse of Jesus. Always God's Son. Always a Teacher. Always willing to Heal. Yet in this passage, Jesus the Son of God sent to be fully human, fully divine tells us about leaving Capernaum. He must. He was sent. To send the Good News.
Jesus. Our Savior. A man with choices.
Matthew 8:20
And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”
