“In a time of favor I have answered you;
in a day of salvation I have helped you;
I will keep you and give you
as a covenant to the people,
to establish the land,
to apportion the desolate heritages,
⁹ saying to the prisoners, ‘Come out,’
to those who are in darkness, ‘Appear.’
They shall feed along the ways;
on all bare heights shall be their pasture;
¹⁰ they shall not hunger or thirst,
neither scorching wind nor sun shall strike them,
for he who has pity on them will lead them,
and by springs of water will guide them.

The blessings of being in the Wednesday Lenten Service tonight. Prayer is always a great thing. And very appreciated, regardless of the circumstance. We prayed tonight for a local Pastor's grandchild. It was one of the Pastors we prayed for during our 30 Churches uniting from different denominations to gather as the Body of Jesus Christ. The baby boy in acute distress is named Thachery. He has atrophied brain problems, yet weighs 6 pounds and is able to move his mouth - astonishing the doctors. Please lift your soul to the Lord to pray for Baby Thachery's recovery.

Should we put our desires of our heart before God or should we allow God's will to be done. We should always do both.

Father God, we pray for a time of favor, for You to answer us. We ask salvation, healing for Baby Thachery. Please establish Baby Thachery, apportion to him good health. Away from the prison an ill body can be. We ask Baby Thachery will be able to feed, not to hunger or thirst physically or spiritually. Have pity upon this family, Lord Jesus Christ, and guide them. Let their lives be the road You would have for them - raised up for Your Glory. Forgive us our sins, Father God, let them be as far from us as the East from the West. For Yours is the Power, the Glory, Forever. We ask You, Father God, to give us the opportunity to sing for joy to You. For Your comfort and Your compassion on the afflicted. Let Your gracious will be done. Always. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayers also for Judy, a friend from our Couples Group. Her husband Bob was killed by a young man, in his 20s with 2 small children, driving while intoxicated. They were a favorite part of our group during the two years we led that small group. Recently retired to Bob's home town, they were so very happy in their retirement the short 8 months they were there.

Lord, comforted Your people and have compassion on the afflicted.

Luke 12 ~ know how to interpet the present time

In the meantime, when so many thousands of the people had gathered together that they were trampling one another, he began to say to his disciples first, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. ² Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. ³ Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops.

⁴ “I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. ⁵ But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him! ⁶ Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. ⁷ Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.

⁸ “And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man also will acknowledge before the angels of God, ⁹ but the one who denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God. ¹⁰ And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the one who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. ¹¹ And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say, ¹² for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”

¹³ Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” ¹⁴ But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?” ¹⁵ And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” ¹⁶ And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, ¹⁷ and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ ¹⁸ And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’ ²⁰ But God said to him, ‘Fool! ²² And he said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. ²³ For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. ²⁴ Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. ³² “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. ³³ Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. ³⁴ For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

³⁵ “Stay dressed for action and keep your lamps burning, ³⁶ and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the wedding feast, so that they may open the door to him at once when he comes and knocks. ³⁷ Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. Truly, I say to you, he will dress himself for service and have them recline at table, and he will come and serve them. ³⁸ If he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them awake, blessed are those servants! ³⁹ But know this, that if the master of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into. ⁴⁰ You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

⁴¹ Peter said, “Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for all?” ⁴² And the Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time? ⁴³ Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. ⁴⁴ Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. ⁴⁵ But if that servant says to himself, ‘My master is delayed in coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and get drunk, ⁴⁶ the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces and put him with the unfaithful. ⁴⁷ And that servant who knew his master's will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. ⁴⁸ But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, will receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.

⁴⁹ “I came to cast fire on the earth, and would that it were already kindled! ⁵⁰ I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how great is my distress until it is accomplished! ⁵¹ Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. ⁵² For from now on in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three. ⁵³ They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

⁵⁴ He also said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, ‘A shower is coming.’ And so it happens. ⁵⁵ And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, ‘There will be scorching heat,’ and it happens. ⁵⁶ You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?

⁵⁷ “And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right? ⁵⁸ As you go with your accuser before the magistrate, make an effort to settle with him on the way, lest he drag you to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer put you in prison. ⁵⁹ I tell you, you will never get out until you have paid the very last penny.”

So, to say the truth, the articles are reassuring people believe so much in Father God. Yet ask yourself - if we are so much in our belief with God - why is the news of today - so dissimilar to the news of 1950 or 1910 or 1870. This last century is our most bloody century. We see Presidential Debates where war all over the globe is debated. An Economic Crisis. Our pendulum of moral values could stand a huge revival.

Can it happen? Certainly. The Holy Spirit has awakening and revival. England had a huge revival defeating the gin crisis with John Wesley and the Salvation Army. There are revivals and renewals every 500 years. I know the Anglican Church revival is huge in the United States. Yet it is uphill work with structure changes and new directions in leadership. I had a conversation with a friend from High School and College - who is in the Ministry - we agreed that if a Christian Church is a single tree growing towards the Light of Jesus Christ or if the structure forms into a Giant Tree like the parable Jesus gave us:

Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches.

Our renewal depends on something important. Our actions and our determination to "seek peace and justice by showing love and compassion and not be those who are intent on destruction and damage. A community that moves together, united, to move beyond the destruction and rebuild."

Using our free will to move towards attitudes and actions of compassion. Genuine Prayer. Waiting upon the LORD. None of us are Jesus Christ, but using our unique qualities, we strive to be obedient to Jesus Christ and His actions and attitudes of Love. Not hunting down those who wish to be apart, but leaving hearts open for genuine attitudes of compassion.

This passage speaks of the divisions caused by Christianity. Yet there is the hope today of those who love and embrace God, Jesus and His Holy Spirit. There is an excellent article of the fires set by people in the U.K. deeply unhappy with their lives. Right after the wave of destruction, we see people coming forward to rebuild.

Luke 12:49-59 ~ Division

These verses are part of the teachings of Jesus to the disciples and to the crowds who have followed him. In Luke 10:1-12, 70 were sent out into the towns and villages to let people know that the kingdom of God had come near in the person of Jesus who would show them the way to live. Some of the 70 experienced peace and were welcomed, while others were rejected and had to leave. This leads Jesus to reflect on how his mission, his life and death will bring judgement and division as people are faced with a choice and a challenge about Jesus.

Today, 2,000 years later the question is still before us when we come face to face with Jesus and the influence of his teachings. Am I willing to try and follow his ways or will I follow someone or something else? And then there's the second question; what sort of kingdom, or community, will my actions bring out?

When we look around at communities in England, as we have done so much this summer, we can clearly see the division between those who seek peace and justice by showing love and compassion and those who are intent on destruction and damage. Although it did not receive much media coverage after the recent riots in London and other cities, communities came together, united, to move beyond the destruction and rebuild. Perhaps those people had had a glimpse of the kingdom of God being present in a small way. Many would not call themselves Christian or people of any faith but some would.

The simple fact is that when knowledge of Jesus is there, decisions have to be made every minute of the day as to how we will live. We always have a choice: to do good or to do harm.

To Ponder

When you need to make a decision about the way to behave, what guides you?

Is division always something to be avoided? God gives us free will. Peter and Paul did not chase after the cities, religious communities who wished to be without them. As the Church built, some cities relapsed, but eventually, even today, kindness and compassion draw people to the Love God has for them. His own.

Prayer is always appreciated. By Father God. By the pray-er and the prayed for. Let us go forth shining in the Light of Jesus Christ the LORD.

Mark 11:1-26

Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples ² and said to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. ³ If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’” ⁴ And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. ⁵ And some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” ⁶ And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go. ⁷ And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it. ⁸ And many spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. ⁹ And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! But you have made it a den of robbers.” ¹⁸ And the chief priests and the scribes heard it and were seeking a way to destroy him, for they feared him, because all the crowd was astonished at his teaching. ¹⁹ And when evening came they went out of the city.

²⁰ As they passed by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered away to its roots. ²¹ And Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.” ²² And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. ²³ Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. ²⁴ Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. ²⁵ And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”

There is a beautiful blog a woman in the Health Insurance Industry writes from South Carolina. Her blog has changed over the years, but she is quite a photographer. In the beginning of her blog she wrote of the heart ache it is to grow up as part of a divorced family with 5 children. Now a woman divorced with 3 children scattered across America. Every Sunday, she did not attend Church, but instead she walked the beautiful streets of Charleston and photographed the Church buildings while people were in attendance.

I guess I will not describe how that made me feel for her.

Some of my favorite books, I own, are the Susan Howatch books from the 1980s on the problems of the Church before World War II. I didn't buy the books Susan Howatch wrote of the Church from the 1980s and forward. It was too bleak.

The Church in the United States is in crisis. There are a whole lot of fires to put out and Light to cover the darkness. Should the Church lean to the right or to the left.

How to be a Church today..........

Fighting the establishments that hunger to appease the wealth of gay Americans. I know a very Southern lady who says that it is the indulgences of the Catholic Church that caused Martin Luther to begin the Protestant Churches - all over again. Hoping the wealthy homosexual community without children will leave their wealth to the reformed church. The gay community desiring to be part of the Body of Christ. And the modern Church is left scratching their heads over what to do with gays not always innocently mixing in with their populations. (Don't ask, don't tell even if...)

And it is the 1960s and 1970s all over again. The Church stood for Martin Luther King and triumphantly strode to march for civil rights. Then the Church opened the elite private schools and caused white flight to cause our public schools to be the disaster urban schools are today. Causing women to leave homes to work to educate their children.

Let's add to that fight - Churches always need money to operate the building. Then Churches appoint the money people to bring in the money. On the other side, I know a story of a priest calling a very, very well to do man with a famous name and asking for money. The man replied he was and still is Jewish, but attending Church gives him the opportunity to socialize. Churches need money and need people to give cheerfully.

Add to the money problem - the faithful - the Scriptures say - are not the ones with the cash. There is a dilemma - for sure. Like the woman in the first paragraph. She needs to be there so badly, she stands outside and feels too unworthy to attend.

Let's not even go over the issue of Works - help the Gentiles (Aids, Homeless, Prostitutes) versus the Jews (abandoned teens, the heartache of day to day teen life, grandmothers struggling to raise grandchildren alone).

And Religious Pride. Been there, know that. Personally. (Sorry LORD.)

Is it more Christian to be traditional or funky - modern. I once heard a very traditional Church Leader, preppy even, say that if you loved Traditional Church - you were probably dead in the pew. And heard a modern priest drawing people in talking about Rap Church - horrors.

The Scripture says flee from sexual sin. Which one? Fornication (TV/media), Adultery (Porn, Adult Single Class), Gay? So now, we just avoid the whole question of sex that bombards us even in commercials. The world is preaching sex and the Church is where on the issue? Is there fear in making the congregation angry. We now rarely talk about alcohol and drugs.

And stomp, stomp, stomp - let's add to this biological Church clock - the social issues of the the unchurched sneering at the problems Christians have. How to bring kindness and love to world almost burned out and extremely cynical of an old Gospel. Remember, in the Roman Empire - people were amazed, dazzled and astonished at kindness. Today - the devil chuckles - "you gonna believe that old rag? Step in there, take advantage of the fool."

Dang. Even writing this brings tears to my eyes. What is the Church to do? It is still about God's grace. We can do nothing but act kindly, give justice, walk humbly with the LORD. It is still do not listen merely to the words, not to be just hearers.

²² And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. ²³ Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. ²⁴ Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. ²⁵ And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”


Pray for the Church. Speak well of Her. She is the Bride of Christ. Honor the Scripture believing, Jesus Christ honoring Churches. Each day people go into the Church hoping to hear the Word of God and they Receive. Be part of a Christian Family. It takes Grace, Patience, Love, Forgiveness. It will grow the most important part of a human being. The willingness to Love when knocked about. Still 2,000 years under Human Management -still working, seeking, striving, failing, being forgiven to be the Light of JESUS CHRIST THE LORD.

The Twelve Harvest Hands

^1-4 The prayer was no sooner prayed than it was answered. Jesus called twelve of his followers and sent them into the ripe fields. He gave them power to kick out the evil spirits and to tenderly care for the bruised and hurt lives. This is the list of the twelve he sent:

Simon (they called him Peter, or "Rock"),
Andrew, his brother,
James, Zebedee's son,
John, his brother,
Philip,
Bartholomew,
Thomas,
Matthew, the tax man,
James, son of Alphaeus,
Thaddaeus,
Simon, the Canaanite,
Judas Iscariot (who later turned on him).

^5-8Jesus sent his twelve harvest hands out with this charge:

"Don't begin by traveling to some far-off place to convert unbelievers. And don't try to be dramatic by tackling some public enemy. Go to the lost, confused people right here in the neighborhood. Tell them that the kingdom is here. Bring health to the sick. Raise the dead. Touch the untouchables. Kick out the demons. You have been treated generously, so live generously.

^9-10"Don't think you have to put on a fund-raising campaign before you start. You don't need a lot of equipment. You are the equipment, and all you need to keep that going is three meals a day. Travel light.

¹¹"When you enter a town or village, don't insist on staying in a luxury inn. Get a modest place with some modest people, and be content there until you leave.

^12-15"When you knock on a door, be courteous in your greeting. If they welcome you, be gentle in your conversation. If they don't welcome you, quietly withdraw. Don't make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way. You can be sure that on Judgment Day they'll be mighty sorry—but it's no concern of yours now.

¹⁶"Stay alert. This is hazardous work I'm assigning you. You're going to be like sheep running through a wolf pack, so don't call attention to yourselves. Be as cunning as a snake, inoffensive as a dove.

^17-20"Don't be naive. Some people will impugn your motives, others will smear your reputation—just because you believe in me. Don't be upset when they haul you before the civil authorities. Without knowing it, they've done you—and me—a favor, given you a platform for preaching the kingdom news! And don't worry about what you'll say or how you'll say it. The right words will be there; the Spirit of your Father will supply the words.

^21-23"When people realize it is the living God you are presenting and not some idol that makes them feel good, they are going to turn on you, even people in your own family. There is a great irony here: proclaiming so much love, experiencing so much hate! But don't quit. Don't cave in. It is all well worth it in the end. It is not success you are after in such times but survival. Be survivors! Before you've run out of options, the Son of Man will have arrived.

^24-25"A student doesn't get a better desk than her teacher. A laborer doesn't make more money than his boss. Be content—pleased, even—when you, my students, my harvest hands, get the same treatment I get. If they call me, the Master, 'Dungface,' what can the workers expect?

^26-27"Don't be intimidated. Eventually everything is going to be out in the open, and everyone will know how things really are. So don't hesitate to go public now.

²⁸"Don't be bluffed into silence by the threats of bullies. There's nothing they can do to your soul, your core being. Save your fear for God, who holds your entire life—body and soul—in his hands.

^29-31"What's the price of a pet canary? Some loose change, right? And God cares what happens to it even more than you do. He pays even greater attention to you, down to the last detail—even numbering the hairs on your head! So don't be intimidated by all this bully talk. You're worth more than a million canaries.

^32-33"Stand up for me against world opinion and I'll stand up for you before my Father in heaven. If you turn tail and run, do you think I'll cover for you?

^34-37"Don't think I've come to make life cozy. I've come to cut—make a sharp knife-cut between son and father, daughter and mother, bride and mother-in-law—cut through these cozy domestic arrangements and free you for God. Well-meaning family members can be your worst enemies. If you prefer father or mother over me, you don't deserve me. If you prefer son or daughter over me, you don't deserve me.

^38-39"If you don't go all the way with me, through thick and thin, you don't deserve me. If your first concern is to look after yourself, you'll never find yourself. But if you forget about yourself and look to me, you'll find both yourself and me.

^40-42"We are intimately linked in this harvest work. Anyone who accepts what you do, accepts me, the One who sent you. Anyone who accepts what I do accepts my Father, who sent me. Accepting a messenger of God is as good as being God's messenger. Accepting someone's help is as good as giving someone help. This is a large work I've called you into, but don't be overwhelmed by it. It's best to start small. Give a cool cup of water to someone who is thirsty, for instance. The smallest act of giving or receiving makes you a true apprentice. You won't lose out on a thing."

Have No Fear

Hebrews 9 ~ He has put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself - once and for all

Hebrews 9 ~ The Message

^1-5 That first plan contained directions for worship, and a specially designed place of worship. A large outer tent was set up. The lampstand, the table, and "the bread of presence" were placed in it. This was called "the Holy Place." Then a curtain was stretched, and behind it a smaller, inside tent set up. This was called "the Holy of Holies." In it were placed the gold incense altar and the gold-covered ark of the covenant containing the gold urn of manna, Aaron's rod that budded, the covenant tablets, and the angel-wing-shadowed mercy seat. But we don't have time to comment on these now. (Of these things we cannot now speak in detail. English Standard Version)

^6-10 After this was set up, the priests went about their duties in the large tent. Only the high priest entered the smaller, inside tent, and then only once a year, offering a blood sacrifice for his own sins and the people's accumulated sins. This was the Holy Spirit's way of showing with a visible parable that as long as the large tent stands, people can't just walk in on God. Under this system, the gifts and sacrifices can't really get to the heart of the matter, can't assuage the conscience of the people, but are limited to matters of ritual and behavior. It's essentially a temporary arrangement until a complete overhaul could be made.

^11-15 But when the Messiah arrived, high priest of the superior things of this new covenant, he bypassed the old tent and its trappings in this created world and went straight into heaven's "tent"—the true Holy Place—once and for all. He also bypassed the sacrifices consisting of goat and calf blood, instead using his own blood as the price to set us free once and for all. If that animal blood and the other rituals of purification were effective in cleaning up certain matters of our religion and behavior, think how much more the blood of Christ cleans up our whole lives, inside and out. Through the Spirit, Christ offered himself as an unblemished sacrifice, freeing us from all those dead-end efforts to make ourselves respectable, so that we can live all out for God.

^16-17 Like a will that takes effect when someone dies, the new covenant was put into action at Jesus' death. His death marked the transition from the old plan to the new one, canceling the old obligations and accompanying sins, and summoning the heirs to receive the eternal inheritance that was promised them. He brought together God and his people in this new way.

^18-22 Even the first plan required a death to set it in motion. After Moses had read out all the terms of the plan of the law—God's "will"—he took the blood of sacrificed animals and, in a solemn ritual, sprinkled the document and the people who were its beneficiaries. And then he attested its validity with the words, "This is the blood of the covenant commanded by God." He did the same thing with the place of worship and its furniture. Moses said to the people, "This is the blood of the covenant God has established with you." Practically everything in a will hinges on a death. That's why blood, the evidence of death, is used so much in our tradition, especially regarding forgiveness of sins.

^23-26 That accounts for the prominence of blood and death in all these secondary practices that point to the realities of heaven. It also accounts for why, when the real thing takes place, these animal sacrifices aren't needed anymore, having served their purpose. For Christ didn't enter the earthly version of the Holy Place; he entered the Place Itself, and offered himself to God as the sacrifice for our sins. He doesn't do this every year as the high priests did under the old plan with blood that was not their own; if that had been the case, he would have to sacrifice himself repeatedly throughout the course of history. But instead he sacrificed himself once and for all, summing up all the other sacrifices in this sacrifice of himself, the final solution of sin.

^27-28 Everyone has to die once, then face the consequences. Christ's death was also a one-time event, but it was a sacrifice that took care of sins forever. And so, when he next appears, the outcome for those eger to greet him is, precisely, salvation.

Now even the first covenant had regulations for worship and an earthly place of holiness. ² For a tent was prepared, the first section, in which were the lampstand and the table and the bread of the Presence.It is called the Holy Place. ³ Behind the second curtain was a second section called the Most Holy Place, ⁴ having the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, in which was a golden urn holding the manna, and Aaron's staff that budded, and the tablets of the covenant. ⁵ Above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. ⁶ These preparations having thus been made, the priests go regularly into the first section, performing their ritual duties, ⁷ but into the second only the high priest goes, and he but once a year, and not without taking blood, which he offers for himself and for the unintentional sins of the people. ⁸ By this the Holy Spirit indicates that the way into the holy places is not yet opened as long as the first section is still standing ⁹ (which is symbolic for the present age). According to this arrangement, gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the conscience of the worshiper, ¹⁰ but deal only with food and drink and various washings, regulations for the body imposed until the time of reformation.

¹¹ But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent ( not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) ¹² he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. ¹³ For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, ¹⁴ how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

¹⁵ Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant. ¹⁶ For where a will is involved, the death of the one who made it must be established. ¹⁷ For a will takes effect only at death, since it is not in force as long as the one who made it is alive. ¹⁸ Therefore not even the first covenant was inaugurated without blood. ¹⁹ For when every commandment of the law had been declared by Moses to all the people, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, ²⁰ saying, “This is the blood of the covenant that God commanded for you.” ²¹ And in the same way he sprinkled with the blood both the tent and all the vessels used in worship. ²² Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

²³ Thus it was necessary for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these rites, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. ²⁴ For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. ²⁵ Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, ²⁶ for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. ²⁷ And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, ²⁸ so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

The mystery of faith - as beautiful as we all know the sky can be, day or night. Remember with me - Hebrews, scholars know was written while the Temple was being used daily for sacrifice. So Hebrews is older than 70 A.D. - the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple by Titus.

Take a second and absorb it. This text says the Temple is in operation. It is not written in 400 A.D. In faith the Bible says the daily sacrifice will stop. Do you realize many Jews today do not know when Jews quit sacrificing. I mean during the 2nd Exodus, the slavery in Babylon, which we know occurred 2 Adar (March 16) 597 B.C. Wonder. Wonder of Wonders. We know the Temple was destroyed and the Samaritans were the remnants of 3 tribes of Israel continuing to make the daily sacrifice at Solomon's ruined Temple. The Sacrifice stopped at 70 A.D. - the year Jesus would have died of old age. Why did the sacrifice stop for the last 2,000 years after the 2nd Temple was destroyed, but not for the 1st. The correct answer would be Jesus.

Look at the way this Chapter is constructed. We begin at the top (the heavens), a God Plan and move to the most holy objects. Judeo-Christians today and at the time Hebrews was written - have something in common - we all would like nothing more than to find Benjamin Netanyahu was right in asking the Vatican - that the Vatican does hold one of the Temple Tools from the First Temple. (And it is not going to be the Ark because Maccabees tells us Jeremiah hid the Ark at Mount Nebo and the Arch of Titus does not record the Ark being recovered.)

There is an interesting story about the Ark written in one of the ancient Talmuds. The Talmud is not the Word of God - it is the Sanhedrin Council and their musings of God. Going back to the time when it wasn't even called the Sanhedrin Council. That the Ark Cherubim moved to face each other when times were good and moved away from each other when Israel fell from His grace. Yet we miss the point and it is a good point - God told David He did not dwell in a Temple - but the Ark is a Mercy Seat. Meaning God is so comfortable and at home in His Temple that He has a seat there. It tells us about God.

Then the next paragraph is about the day to day dealing of the Priests who get so comfortable in the Temple - like John the Baptist's father Zechariah - when the Angel Gabriel appeared, in Luke 1, Zechariah decides to question Gabriel rather than grab hold of the horns of the altar for mercy. Now. Doesn't the second paragraph bring home an analogy to us. We all get so caught up in the life we see and hear - we forget to be in awe of what God brings us.

Which brings us to the 3rd paragraph. Jesus Christ Unblemished as our LORD and Savior. We get to turning on the television at night and reading liberal far out things forgetting the absolute Holiness of GOD. Would you turn on that program if you Know Jesus is sitting with you?

Which brings you to the fourth paragraph. If you believe Jesus died for you - a sinner - you believe in the New Covenant. Which means you believe the Holy Spirit of God dwells in you.

Why would anyone put themselves out to share Jesus and the Gospel? The Love with which He Loves me.

The believers of God are His Lights. It is up to us to Shine for Him.

We all come to a time in our lives where life can be a storm. The wild winds of life begin to pull and tug us in different directions. In the midst of all of that, there is peace. Salvation speaks in our hearts telling us God says He has chosen us. He loves us. We are special to Him. The blessing of forgiveness letting the Spirit be - renewal, redemption - peace.

Father God, in You, the Light shines in the darkness. When our words, message and preaching are not wise and persuasive words, You are still the love, power, presence and joy given in Your Holy Spirit. Help us each day to walk the path You give us in Your glory, peace, joie de vivre, knowing we Live God's blessings!! Rejoice in the Name of Jesus Christ, our LORD.
