Matthew 20:29-34
And as they went out of Jericho, a great crowd followed Him.
30 And behold, there were two blind men sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!"
31 The crowd rebuked them, telling them to be silent, but they cried out all the more, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!"
32 And stopping, Jesus called them and said, "What do you want me to do for you?"
33 They said to him, "Lord, let our eyes be opened."
34 And Jesus in pity touched their eyes, and immediately they recovered their sight and followed Him.
Mark 10:46-52
46 And they came to Jericho.
And as he was leaving Jericho with His disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
48 And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
49 And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”
And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart. Get up; he is calling you.”
50 And throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. 51 And Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?”
And the blind man said to him, “Rabbi, let me recover my sight.”
52 And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight
and followed Him on the way.
Luke 8:35-39
35 Then people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid. 36 And those who had seen it told them how the demon-possessed man had been healed.
37 Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Gerasenes asked Him to depart from them, for they were seized with great fear. So He got into the boat and returned.
38 The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with Him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 “Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you.”
And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him.
Luke 17:11-19
11 On the way to Jerusalem He was passing along between Samaria and Galilee.
12 And as He entered a village, He was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance 13 and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.”
14 When He saw them He said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.”
And as they went they were cleansed. 15 Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; 16 and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan.
17 Then Jesus answered,
“Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? 18 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?”
19 And He said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”
We begin our Lent today with this verse:
And as they went out of Jericho, a great crowd followed Him.
Many times in the Gospels, a great crowd followed Jesus.
Like the two blind men, Bartimaeus, the healed and grateful leper.
The Great Crowd knew Jesus healed them ALL.
Matthew 12:15-21
And many followed Him, and He healed them all
16 and
ordered them not to make Him known.
17 This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah [42:1-3]:
“Behold, My Servant
whom I have chosen,
My beloved
with Whom my soul is well pleased.
I will put my Spirit upon Him,
and
He will proclaim justice to the Gentiles.
He will not quarrel or cry aloud,
nor will anyone hear His Voice in the streets;
A bruised reed He will not break,
and
a smoldering wick He will not quench,
until
He brings justice to victory;
and
In His Name the Gentiles will hope.”
I saw an interesting post on Social Media today. A man was in serious condition in a hospital. He sent in a photo of himself in the Hospital bed and asked his own photo to be changed, showing Jesus standing beside or behind him. He said the image would be comforting.
Many photos were given.
One was unique, a man offered a photo of Jesus Himself in the hospital bed.
Wearing the same gown. Holding the same book.
Follow Jesus where you are. Abide in the Lord. Be the Light.
Deuteronomy 31:23
And the Lord commissioned Joshua the son of Nun and said,
“Be strong and courageous,
for you shall bring the people of Israel
into the land
that I swore to give them.
I will be with you.”
