Jesus Goes Up Alone onto a Mountain to Pray, painted by James Tissot (French, 1836-1902).
Matthew 9:27-31
And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, “Have mercy on us, Son of David.” 28 When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” 29 Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.” 30 And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly warned them, “See that no one knows about it.” 31 But they went away and spread his fame through all that district.
I suppose mostly people are, "Show me the money!" If they think about wanting a relationship with Jesus. We expect Jesus to heal; we are hardly surprised HE touched the men to heal them. We know Jesus expects faith and works within faith.
Let's think about what people saw when they looked at Jesus.
John 7:41-43
But some said, “Is the Christ to come from Galilee? 42 Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the offspring of David, and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David was?” 43 So there was a division among the people over him.
Paul tells us in Acts, what he thought of Jesus walking the earth.
Acts 26:9
“I myself was convinced that I ought to do many things in opposing the name of Jesus of Nazareth."
The powerful and well connected in The Temple called Him - Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus mostly spoke of Himself as Son of Man. Meaning as Jesus went about healing, soothing, speaking mercy over sacrifice, HE thought of Himself as one of the people.
Colossians 2:16-19 tells us more about Jesus being busy as Messiah:
Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. 17 These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ. 18 Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind, 19 and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.
Jesus, as much as I like the speech, very much, did not go about saying, "I Have a Dream." Jesus went about sharing healing with souls. Telling them this life changing event was not solely done by "Son of David" - their miracle was created and accomplished by their faith. Jesus was very much about mercy to them, and to us.
This change tells us about Jesus. True Hero. Savior of the World. Light of Light. True God of True God.
Oh, come let us worship HIM. Always. Amen.
