This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: He was preparing swarms of locusts after the king’s share had been harvested and just as the late crops were coming up. 2 When they had stripped the land clean, I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, forgive! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!”
3 So the Lord relented.
“This will not happen,” the Lord said.
4 This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: The Sovereign Lord was calling for judgment by fire; it dried up the great deep and devoured the land. 5 Then I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, I beg you, stop! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!”
6 So the Lord relented.
“This will not happen either,” the Sovereign Lord said.
7 This is what he showed me: The Lord was standing by a wall that had been built true to plumb, with a plumb line in his hand. 8 And the Lord asked me, “What do you see, Amos?”
“A plumb line,” I replied.
Then the Lord said, “Look, I am setting a plumb line among my people Israel; I will spare them no longer.
9 “The high places of Isaac will be destroyed
and the sanctuaries of Israel will be ruined;
with my sword I will rise against the house of Jeroboam.”
Now we could do some parallels of God relenting (?) by letting Abram convince Him to have mercy and save lives. Which does, of course, speak to the type of heart God looks for. And why God called Abram.
Why would God go against Jeroboam? Jeroboam took down David's Israel and the split created Judah. He is not from David's line. Another Scripture repeat, God sent Jesus when David's house had fallen and outsiders claimed the Kingship of Judah.
Some people don't care for the Old Testament because war creates conflicts. People much prefer the New Testament. In the Old Testament, God carries the sins of one generation to the next. Upsetting people thinking God wouldn't be so unkind. God's vision is much more far reaching than armchair observers see. In fact, His Word to the shepherd Amos was fulfilled. We all do God's Plan, it's up to us what we bring in attitudes and heart how we accomplish His Plans.
When mankind grandly invented Psychology 3,000 years later, we Still failed to see what God, in His wisdom was saying.
God's speaking mercifully in this Old Testament Scripture. Surely we can see the New Testament - and today - has war. Just as all of us Will Experience Jesus coming again as time ceases in this life, we will experience a personal Revelation and we will experience war.
So what - Wahhhhaaa - do we find in this more utopian Early Church? In our New Testament?
Oh, of course, there was war and upheaval when the emperors of Rome began to persecute Christians just sixteen years after Jesus died. This really is not spoken/recorded in the Early Church we learn about being built by the disciples and... yes and... importantly with Mary and the brothers of Christ and his sister-in-laws.
Attitudes and divisions leading to unhappiness - the kind of war and divisions we all know about in life. In this utopian early Church - we have the tote the law crowd. We have sexual misconduct. We have people obsessed with food and implications. We have disbelievers changing the Word to appeal to more people. We have discord over hospitality. And who is picked to do what service project. And some of the women dressed like hussies. We could go on but these other divisions we speak of all the time.
Jesus said there would be discord. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against. Just like the beginning of the Second Temple when the the locals were thrown out in favor of the Chosen Ones returning from the Exile.
Discord is seen both in the New Testament and the Old Testament. This is the war we are familiar with.
No doubt but we are the people, And wisdom shall die with us. Why ! Heavens Martha ! The Church today is filled with Hypocrites ! Be Spiritual - just don't be Religious !!!
Not exactly. God calls... not the Righteous, but ... Sinners.
Jesus is the Plumb Line. Carpenter's use this tool. God is sneaky like that. Carpenters. How did God see Family? Joseph looked like Jesus. Jesus was from a messy family. Shhhh blended. Un...planned pregnancy. And was Jesus - peaceful -
Matthew 13
53 When Jesus had finished these parables, he moved on from there. 54 Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue, and they were amazed. “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” they asked. 55 “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? 56 Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” 57 And they took offense at him.
Now see there, Joseph blended his Holy Family so well that people saw that Joseph looked like Jesus.
In War, World War I, the soldiers called a unanimous truce - and sang songs glorifying God. Did you ever wonder why we see so much change in the world? Not the Church. Jesus said and I tell you, you are Peter, and on this Rock I will build My Church, and the gates of hell Shall Not Prevail Against It!
Telling. Can you imagine Jesus speaking matter-of-factly or non-chalantly about His Church...
I tell you - I Believe - Jesus Thundered about Rock and Prevailing!!!
Telling? That plumb line - where will YOU STAND. Where will you STAND WHEN YOU STAND FOR JESUS CHRIST? When that Plumb Line is Drawn - Will You Be In That Number???
~ Blessed are the merciful !!! They shall obtain mercy !!!
