Luke 7:11-17
11 Soon afterward he went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him.
12 As he drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her.
13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep."
14 Then he came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, "Young man, I say to you, arise."
15 And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother.
16 Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has arisen among us!" and "God has visited his people!"
17 And this report about him spread through the whole of Judea and all the surrounding country.
We will just not know until we are in Heaven, if the widow's son was a child or an adult.
But Jesus came to tell us this:
Romans 12
15b Weep with those who weep.
16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. 17 Repay no one evil for evil, but
give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all.
18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
Jesus never said there was no crying in baseball. Jesus is tender. Jesus meets us where we really are. We come before Jesus just as we truly are. And we learn that mankind delights God as He sees us. There is no wonder after watching the Cajun Navy and all of Texas work - to help those flooded out.
When we can't, God will comfort us. We know. We can put ourselves on our Jesus and our Father when life is tough.
Psalm 131
1 My heart is not proud, Lord,
my eyes are not haughty;
I do not concern myself with great matters
or things too wonderful for me.
2 But I have calmed and quieted myself,
I am like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child I am content.
3 Israel, put your hope in the Lord
both now and forevermore
Tell people the truth of your struggles.
And in the truth, Jesus tells us this:
Standing up is important. When we are able. When we feel His mercies renew. Stand up when we pray - this is fine, Gabriel tells us he stands in the Presence of God. Luke 1.
Stand when you are able.
Ephesians 6
13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes,
you may be able to stand your ground,
and after you have done everything, to stand.
14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist,
with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Joshua 7:10
10 The LORD said to Joshua, “Stand up! What are you doing down on your face?
God tells us He is God of Encouragement.
Nehemiah 9:5
5 And the Levites—Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah and Pethahiah—said:
“Stand up and praise the LORD your God, who is from everlasting to everlasting. ”
“Blessed be your glorious name, and may it be exalted above all blessing and praise.
Job 11:15
15 then, free of fault, you will lift up your face;
you will stand firm
and without fear.
Psalm 3:1-6
"O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; many are saying of my soul, there is no salvation for him in God.
Selah But you, O Lord,
are a shield about me,
my glory,
and the lifter of my head.
I cried aloud to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy hill. Selah I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the Lord sustained me."
When we can stand and let God lift up our face.
The Joy of the Lord is our Strength.
Mark 12:30
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
Matthew 22:37
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind."
Abba, our Abba,
Jesus is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah and we want to hold on to Jesus. We will stand with Jesus.
In good times, You are our Joy and Strength.
In bad times, You are our Comforter and Helper.
In times we are afraid, You slept calmly in the boat. And then stood. Matthew told us in His 8th Gospel, Jesus stood to rebuke the wind and the water.
Father God, You rested. We must rest.
And we will be different this time next year.
Abba will remain the same. He has carried us for many years. He will lead us Home. We will expect His Goodness and Love. And for those we Love to live knowing the Joy of Jesus.
We will Live Praying Jesus' Love on our Nation. Blessing all Christians praying His Love bringing more Heaven to earth.
We thank You Father Puerto Rico was spared. We pray Barbuda will be helped and Irma will stall before hitting land. We pray more blessings like those of Puerto Rico.
Jesus Christ over us all.
Amen.
