John 12:14-16
14 And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written,
15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion;
behold, your king is coming,
sitting on a donkey's colt!”
16 His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him.
If you were King David and Jesus, would you want your inauguration to be on your donkey or a borrowed one? I wouldn't enjoy this, personally. Nor would I personally want to dance naked in the streets. All of this seems a little difficult to relate towards. Probably, most of us shrug and say "Holy, Holy, Holy. His ways are not our ways."
Wouldn't you think being born in a barn to a mother who was not married yet would suffice? Why would Jesus ride a donkey?
What is Jesus telling us about Himself?
Zechariah 9:9-10 written in 587 B.C.
9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
10 I will cut off
the chariot from Ephraim
the chariot from Ephraim
and the war horse from Jerusalem;
and the battle bow
shall be cut off
shall be cut off
And he shall speak Peace to the nations
His rule shall be from sea to sea
,
and from the River to the ends of the earth.
Have we really considered how odd it was the people thought they could raise Jesus up or put Jesus away. Remember Jesus and His Beginning.
God, Himself, certainly knew the people of Jerusalem had no idea of Jesus and Genesis 1:1. And Jesus decides to make a statement about the Nature of God, our Father.
Luke 1:77-79
Giving knowledge of salvation to his people
in the forgiveness of their sins
78 Because of the tender mercy of our God,
whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high
79 Giving light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet
into the way of peace.
into the way of peace.
Our God, our Father, and His Son have completed the Universe from God's Word to say - Peace.
Our God takes All He has and tells us He wants to Speak Peace to us.
Our God takes All He has and tells us He wants to Speak Peace to us.
The Reckless Love God our Father has for us.
The Reckless Love God has for us.
The incredible lengths to tell us of His Glory, Love and the Ability of God.
Every word of the Bible is meant to be lived and believed. Jesus ties together the obscure promises and the miracles to remind us to have faith.
An archaeological tombstone, or pottery shard with the story of the wonderful donkey? We will have to take it on faith. God's glory unseen. Archaeology confirms the Word of God, Balaam was not a child of Israel, & did worship other gods and was a prophet intent on other gods.
In 1967, at Deir Alla, Jordan, archaeologists found 119 pieces of inked plaster containing an unknown prophecy by Balaam written in a previously unattested dialect with Aramaic and South Canaanite characteristics and employing an idiosyncratic script. The inscription is datable to circa 840–760 B.C. . Painted in red and black inks, apparently to emphasize the text, on fragments of a plastered wall. This is not the correct time frame. This would have been during Uzziah's reign. Perhaps it is another Balaam, or Balaam was still being quoted.
Agreeing with the Balaam testimony is:
- God is good, forgiving and gracious in the way He records Balaam in the Book of Numbers.
- According to Numbers 31:16 Moses
- John, Jesus' beloved disciple (Revelation 2:14)
- Jude, the Brother of Jesus
- Peter, the Rock who built the Church to do the will of Father God.
This interesting to children Bible Story goes very, very far in the Eternal Life.
Fight for goodness. With the grace of God. God speaks to us in our hearts, we believe and He tells us this in the New Testament.
Jesus said even the stones would cry out to declare Jesus sovereign. And mere babes.
Balaam's donkey has held the interest of people who love the Scriptures for ages. Crying out for mercy. Telling of the abilities of God.
People have spoken of this for about three millenniums.
The Authority of God.
Jesus made sure when He was triumphant - He rode a donkey. Of course:
Zechariah 9:9
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
1 Kings 1:33-44
And the king said to them,
“Take with you the servants of your lord and have Solomon my son ride on my own mule, and bring him down to Gihon. 34 And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet there anoint him king over Israel. Then blow the trumpet and say, ‘Long live King Solomon!’
Yet I would have to say, Jesus was taking care of the past and giving Grace.
Matthew 6:26
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Psalm 148:5-6
Let everything he has made give praise to him.
For He issues his command, and they came into being;
he established them forever and forever. His orders will never be revoked.
Proverbs 12:10
A righteous man has regard for the life of his animal,
But even the compassion of the wicked is cruel.
1 Corinthians 9:9, Deuteronomy 25:4
For it is written in the Law of Moses, "You Shall Not Muzzle The Ox While He Is Threshing " God is concerned about oxen, isn't He, He's not too busy.
