Pilgrimage, hiking Ziklag, part of the Negev desert and semi-desert region of southern Israel. Archaeological explorations reveal some of the earliest presence in Ziklag is early Israel. This is actually David's home.
David, warrior and mercenary, lived in a trench. His family was all stolen, kidnapped, in 1 Samuel 30. David understood personal war.
Psalm 55
To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. A Maskila of David.
1 Give ear to my prayer, O God,
and hide not yourself from my plea for mercy!
2 Attend to me, and answer me;
I am restless in my complaint and I moan,
3 because of the noise of the enemy,
because of the oppression of the wicked.
For they drop trouble upon me,
and in anger they bear a grudge against me.
4 My heart is in anguish within me;
the terrors of death have fallen upon me.
5 Fear and trembling come upon me,
and horror overwhelms me.
6 And I say, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove!
I would fly away and be at rest;
7 yes, I would wander far away;
I would lodge in the wilderness; Selah
8 I would hurry to find a shelter
from the raging wind and tempest.”
It's highly doubtful David believed he would be singing about his worst part of personal war.
The Church has always gone forth with those who are putting Perish on the line. And as the men of God looked back with faith, they have believed very strongly God has saved souls as the battle is raging. God does not abandon the prayer in complete fear.
Mark 9
When Jesus came down from the Transfiguration, Jesus was greeted by failing and complaining Disciples and a father in total fear over his son. The father cried out for healing if it was possible. Jesus responded with fortitude, " And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”
The father says so very earnestly, "I do have faith, help me to have More Faith!"
If we read Mark 9 again, we find Jesus always, always intended to heal the son. He has already, very quickly, started teaching the Disciples how to do this better next time.
Father God always intends to be Father God. Jesus is not giving the Basketball Dunk Lesson on Self Fulfillment. God is God. He has even told us we are flowers in the field without Jesus.
Many times, Messengers of God say as instructed... "FEAR NOT!"
The Ten Talent Child and Servant of Father God would say, "Of course, God is Father." The Lesson on 'fear not' is to relax our mind. To not cling to worry. To find Life has Joy as Jesus instructs the week Jesus Gives us His Life Forever.
Psalm 55 is the absolute terror of personal war. With the memory David would later sing to God for His Deliverance. David had his crisis leading others in crisis, with mutiny. A Personal Crisis with barbed wire. Later, David would praise God for His Help to find his family, to save a nation, to complete the Tribe of Judah and fulfill Destiny - God's Plan.
God is God of all. God of those in crisis. God of the fearful. God of the hopeful. God of those expecting to help others. God of those surrounded by a rough crowd. (David's mercenary followers were not crumpets and tea.)
Joy
Maybe David could think past dealing with a crowd of mutinous thugs to regain his family, because he had some faith. Maybe this faith kept his mind clear enough. Jesus said several times to Rise. Believing God is God, we can see past the stone wall to the Faith God is never going to leave. Hope. Help. Helper. Solutions.
David writes so well of terror. He proclaims his fear. God is not ashamed to call Himself a Father to David. We can create a memory of David living in a trench in fear and being the plan for Jesus Christ. David was uncomfortable living in a trench - see the stones - David believed God and the Rock of Jesus Christ is his foundation.
With faith, we are more than conquerors in Jesus Christ.
We have this example to hold on to.
A rational thought on fear:
We believe God sees us as we are. God knows our heart, mind and soul. Our past, present and future. We sincerely hate to show God fear. We believe to show God fear is to secretly insult God. Fear does not offend a Father. God tells us He wants to live with us and give us His Helper - God's Holy Spirit.
God is our Helper.
Psalm 131
O Lord, my heart is not lifted up;
my eyes are not raised too high;
I do not occupy myself with things
too great and too marvelous for me.
2 But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child is my soul within me.
3 O Israel, hope in the Lord
from this time forth and forevermore.
Psalm 132
Remember, O Lord, in David's favor,
all the hardships he endured
2 how he swore to the Lord
and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob,
3 “I will not enter my house
or get into my bed,
4 I will not give sleep to my eyes
or slumber to my eyelids,
5 until I find a place for the Lord,
a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”
6 Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah;
we found it in the fields of Jaar.
7 “Let us go to his dwelling place;
let us worship at his footstool!”
8 Arise, O Lord, and go to your resting place,
you and the ark of your might.
9 Let your priests be clothed with righteousness,
and let your saints shout for joy.
10 For the sake of your servant David,
do not turn away the face of your anointed one.
11 The Lord swore to David a sure oath
from which he will not turn back:
“One of the sons of your body
I will set on your throne.
12 If your sons keep my covenant
and my testimonies that I shall teach them,
their sons also forever
shall sit on your throne.”
13 For the Lord has chosen Zion;
he has desired it for his dwelling place:
14 “This is my resting place forever;
here I will dwell, for I have desired it.
15 I will abundantly bless her provisions;
I will satisfy her poor with bread.
16 Her priests I will clothe with salvation,
and her saints will shout for joy.
17 There I will make a horn to sprout for David;
I have prepared a lamp for my anointed.
18 His enemies I will clothe with shame,
but on Him
His crown will shine.”
The Helper of God gives us this!
Psalm 133
Behold, how good and pleasant it is
when brothers dwell in unity!
2 It is like the precious oil on the head,
running down on the beard,
on the beard of Aaron,
running down on the collar of his robes!
Peace
3 It is like the dew of Hermon,
which falls on the mountains of Zion!
For there the Lord has commanded the blessing,
life forevermore.
Fear
Mt Herman feeds Israel and the Jordan River
After Jesus gave His Life for us,
Jesus Lived the Word of God,
Returned Triumphant over Death.
And found His Disciples
to make them Breakfast.
John 21
Abba, Our Father God, Our Father,
Feels like a song that never stops
Feels like it's never gonna
Gotta get that fire, fire, back in my bones
Before my heart, heart, turns into stone
So somebody please pass the megaphone
I'll shout it on the count of three
One, two, three
Oh, hear my prayer tonight, I'm singing to the sky...
Give me strength
...to raise my voice, let me testify
Oh, hear my prayer tonight, 'cause this is do or die
The time has come to make a choice
And I choose JESUS
Let it move you, let it move you, let it move you
Yeah, I choose The Lord!
For me and my house - we chose the Lord God.
Counting on Jesus for His Amazing and Wonderous Works of healing, eternal life, thriving, prosperity, Love, Peace and Joy.
Thank YOU for Giving me These Blessings!
Jesus is God. Amen.
