John 9:1-34
As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. 2 And His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”
3 Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.
4 We must work the works of Him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.
5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
6 Having said these things, He spit on the ground and made mud with the saliva. Then he anointed the man's eyes with the mud 7 and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent).
So he went and washed and came back seeing.
8 The neighbors and those who had seen him before as a beggar were saying, “Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?” 9 Some said, “It is he.” Others said, “No, but he is like him.”
He kept saying, “I am the man.”
10 So they said to him, “Then how were your eyes opened?”
11 He answered, “The man called Jesus made mud and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to Siloam and wash.’ So I went and washed and received my sight.”
12 They said to him, “Where is he?”
He said, “I do not know.”
13 They brought to the Pharisees the man who had formerly been blind. 14 Now it was a Sabbath day when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes. 15 So the Pharisees again asked him how he had received his sight. And he said to them, “He put mud on my eyes, and I washed, and I see.”
16 Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.” But others said, “How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” And there was a division among them. 17 So they said again to the blind man, “What do you say about him, since he has opened your eyes?”
He said, “He is a prophet.”
18 The Jews did not believe that he had been blind and had received his sight, until they called the parents of the man who had received his sight 19 and asked them, “Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?”
20 His parents answered, “We know that this is our son and that he was born blind. 21 But how he now sees we do not know, nor do we know who opened his eyes. Ask him; he is of age. He will speak for himself.” 22 (His parents said these things because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone should confess Jesus to be Christ, he was to be put out of the synagogue.) 23 Therefore his parents said, “He is of age; ask him.”
24 So for the second time they called the man who had been blind and said to him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.”
25 He answered, “Whether he is a sinner I do not know. One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.”
26 They said to him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”
27 He answered them, “I have told you already, and you would not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become His disciples?”
28 And they reviled him, saying, “You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. 29 We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, we do not know where he comes from.”
30 The man answered, “Why, this is an amazing thing! You do not know where He comes from, and yet He opened my eyes. 31 We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him. 32 Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind. 33 If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”
34 They answered him, “You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?” And they cast him out.
The Clock Tower in both photos would surprise even Dallasites going by Park Cities Baptist. This is a beautiful, large, fruitful and Godly Church. But who would fathom the SIZE of this Clock???
Yesterday's Post is about how we feel regarding the Words of the Lord, yesterday, today and tomorrow. Edward and I are native Dallasites, my great-great-grandparents came to Texas after the Civil War in a covered wagon train. Celina, Tennessee moved to Celina, Texas. And down the road, about 24 miles, Edward's great-great-grandparents were farming in McKinney, Texas. Then they all moved to the big city with the 1 centimeter phone book c. 1920. And we have memories of Park Cities Baptist even though our families went to St. Michael's and All Angels Episcopal Church since 1956, when St. Michael's was the largest Episcopal Church in the USA.
Yesterday, today and tomorrow, Park Cities Baptist Church is part of my extended family's life. My godmother, Marilyn McIver went to Park Cities Baptist when this was a wee Church powerfully beginning to grow. My mother and Marilyn were the best of friends since first grade. And I ran into Marilyn in the huge city of Dallas at least twice a week. We went to the same Prayer Group, for over a decade during my young mother years, and if we didn't run into each other, Marilyn would laugh and say I missed you at the luncheon. Or the grocery store. Looking back, it was a miracle of the Lord. And because I knew Marilyn so well, I knew of what she learned there and taught in Sunday School or in her young days, taught VBS. I'd say PCB was like a cousin Church. You'd pass this Church with our family, speak of Marilyn. Stop at a couple of traffic lights, turn South and head to St. Michael's.
And then, Edward's neighbor and pal since he was 4 years old, who had a real train horn and dated Brook Shield's at his Ivy League College, came home to settle down in Dallas. His parents expected him to follow in his childhood home and he decided this Church was too beautiful not to go and see this. His first visit he found he was standing up, still, and asking to join this Church. He was telling us this at an Old Neighbor Party. Why'd you do this? Well, they were screaming and yelling and extremely passionate about... The Truth. Why be milk toast about The Truth. And that one visit changed the rest of his life. And everyone wanted to know more about this, at the party.
Talking about Parties ... if you look at the man standing by the Church clock, you will see a water tower. When we were teenagers, this water tower damn near flooded and killed the family living next door to the water tower, in the middle of the night. The home was destroyed. This made the news for a few weeks. Come to find out, the water tower did not rupture, it was blown apart. In the late 1970s, this was gigantic news. And we all wondered. Flash forward, a group of young adults, people with children are at a party and a man stands up and laughs and laughs to confessing he had an actual elephant rifle and decided to fire it one night. The room didn't laugh. And one person spoke up and said the injured family was his dear family friend. Another person knew the victims had been examined to find if they had sabotaged the water tower, the people who had been hospitalized and lost most of their possessions. The man who had done the shots said all's well that ends well. And we came to find out, the teenager, now man, who shot, was booked and faced a trial. Because it being the late 1990s, he fully expected the quiet disapproval of the crowd. He had spoken of urban legends. The story unfolded again and found the family had suffered loss in many directs that had affected their lives. The booking, and finding of guilt, had set this back on the right path.
In case you are wondering about the statute of limitations … if one willfully destroys property belonging to the Government, there is no statute of limitations. For example, the election ballots, boxes and counting the votes or handling absentee ballots in any way shape or form.
How would this true set of events correlate to John 9?
When we see how the authorities react in John 9 to a miracle. When we see Luke 4, Jesus speaks of the Widow of Zarephath, the people of Nazareth want to throw Jesus from a cliff.
This isn't just the time of a Prophet being harassed, like prophets are. This is a time of blindness.
Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and having found him
He said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
36 He answered, “And who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?”
37 Jesus said to him, “You have seen Him, and it is He who is speaking to you.”
38 He said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped Him.
39 Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.”
40 Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to Him, “Are we also blind?”
41 Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains.
night is coming,
when no one can work.
Blindness
The man who confessed to a room with more than 60 people.
And fully expected quiet disapproval.
We can take the time to lament what would happen now. But we would miss a serious point to make. Isaiah 7. Jesus Christ is born with God's Full Intention. His Full Plan. Jesus arrives in a time of Spiritual Blindness. It is expected the parents of the blind man, and those who see the questioning inquisition, would only offer quiet disapproval. The Romans boldly went past the signs posted, we find in archaeology, warning foreigners of the holiness of the Temple. Pilate confiscated Temple funds to pay for the aqueducts Romans considered necessity. Quiet disapproval with a scuffle.
And yet, and yet, and yet, this is the
precipice of change. Why?
Jesus Christ is Lord
What does the Dead Sea Scroll tell us of Jesus?
THE LIFE OF JESUS CHRIST
The blind receive their sight and the lame walk,
lepers are cleansed
and the deaf hear,
and the dead are raised up,
and the poor have good news preached to them
These miracles are told scattered here and there through Isaiah. Matthew, Disciple of Jesus, tells us they are pulled together and displayed clearly. A cataclysm of miracles.

Abba, Father,
Know the Scriptures,
Know the Power of God.
And we will believe in the One He has Sent.
Surely, He took on our infirmities
and carried our sorrows;
yet, we considered Him stricken by God,
struck down and afflicted.
But He was pierced for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace
was upon Him,
and by His stripes
we are healed.
Each Day we are Blessed
to ask for more
More Heaven on earth.
Gently, we hand You our Cares
knowing Your Hands hold
this so well.
Tenderly.
And we are Loved and Filled.
We give thanks for
Your Sacrifice
to bring those unworthy
to be adopted into Your Family.
Knowing we are not perfect,
have weakness,
flaws
and sins.
And draw near to you with confidence
in Jesus Christ
according to Your Will

Your Steadfast Love
and Your Promises in Jesus.
Dwell in us
and help us to be Pleasing to You
Dwell in those we Love and Honor
and help us to seek You first
and we will end well in Jesus Christ.

Seek first the kingdom of God
and
His righteousness,
and
all these things will be added to you.
