Zechariah 11 :1-16

Open your doors, O Lebanon,

    that the fire may devour your cedars!

2 Wail, O cypress, for the cedar has fallen,

    for the glorious trees are ruined!

Wail, oaks of Bashan,

    for the thick forest has been felled!

3 The sound of the wail of the shepherds,

    for their glory is ruined!

The sound of the roar of the lions,

    for the thicket of the Jordan is ruined!

4 Thus said the Lord my God: “Become shepherd of the flock doomed to slaughter. 5 Those who buy them slaughter them and go unpunished, and those who sell them say, ‘Blessed be the Lord, I have become rich,’ and their own shepherds have no pity on them. 6 For I will no longer have pity on the inhabitants of this land, declares the Lord. Behold, I will cause each of them to fall into the hand of his neighbor, and each into the hand of his king, and they shall crush the land, and I will deliver none from their hand.”

7 So I became the shepherd of the flock doomed to be slaughtered by the sheep traders. And I took two staffs, one I named Favor, the other I named Union. And I tended the sheep. 8 In one month I destroyed the three shepherds. But I became impatient with them, and they also detested me. 9 So I said, “I will not be your shepherd. What is to die, let it die. What is to be destroyed, let it be destroyed. And let those who are left devour the flesh of one another.” 10 And I took my staff Favor, and I broke it, annulling the covenant that I had made with all the peoples. 11 So it was annulled on that day, and the sheep traders, who were watching me, knew that it was the word of the Lord. 12 Then I said to them, “If it seems good to you, give me my wages; but if not, keep them.” And they weighed out as my wages thirty pieces of silver. 13 Then the Lord said to me, “Throw it to the potter”—the lordly price at which I was priced by them. So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the Lord, to the potter. 14 Then I broke my second staff Union, annulling the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.

15 Then the Lord said to me, “Take once more the equipment of a foolish shepherd. 16 For behold, I am raising up in the land a shepherd who does not care for those being destroyed, or seek the young or heal the maimed or nourish the healthy, but devours the flesh of the fat ones, tearing off even their hoofs.

The San Francisco Homeless have frequently been in the 2020 news year.

The San Francisco Chronicle went further:

"SF homeless department is understaffed and unprepared to handle crisis, report says

Trisha Thadani Aug. 7, 2020 Updated: Aug. 11, 2020"

We all understand the San Francisco Homeless Hotel Experiment didn't go well.  

The small Homeless Volunteer Organizations have seen Homeless moved into permanent housing go through a series of steps usually private organizations and Churches have carefully learned. With those in permanent housing encouraging their friends left homeless, to complete the steps from the Churches and organizations.

Systems of Governments can have resources, but still heart-to-heart human contact is the best motivator.

Really? Really.  How different are big government and small organizations and Churches. Let's start with the Budget.............

"According to the report, the Department has a nearly 26% staff vacancy rate and high turnover, insufficient contract oversight and $26.5 million left unspent."  

26% staff vacancy rate and high turnover, 26.5 Million Dollars to leave unspent!

It's fair to say, the most successful homing successes from Homeless Small Organizations and Churches don't have 26.5 Million Dollars to leave unspent. Or nice, high end freezers full of ice cream. The Budget is willing, but what is weak?

"The report, published in August, by the Budget and Legislative Analyst’s Office, paints a grim picture of a department tasked with handling one of San Francisco’s most vexing and visible issues."

Government Efficiency isn't being touted in a Huge Issue. It's so - - - ignored - in great heart manners, 150,000 people have moved from San Francisco during the Pandemic. Fled. Left. 

Last year, with more city workers Homeless numbers went from 6,000 people in 2018 to 8,000 people in 2019. Last year, San Francisco had human solid bowel movement waste complaints about the streets of San Francisco. These reports number 14,500 times. This year, 2020, I heard one outrageous guess this year to be a population of 150,000 Homeless in San Francisco.  (Sadly someone in San Francisco thought this was true in the Pelosi District.)

Why was the Trump Supporters attacked violently two days ago? 

Fear of EXTREME homelessness.  I personally believe this: President Reagan has a deep affection in my memories, but he made a mistake with mental illness hospitals being reduced. Homelessness increased. And now the states believing in less big government, with more Church volunteerism - vastly help Homelessness. The violent outburst was Homeless fear and fear of change.

2020 

Who is feeding the newly Homeless in New York City? The Church. 

Who fed the Astrodome containing about 25,000 Katrina victims? The Church.  Not the Red Cross in great depth. It was grid of Houston Churches who fed the Katrina Refugees, daily. All the way, 40 miles outside Houston to the Suburbs and packed hotels - still fed for an entire year by Church Volunteers.

When Crisis occurs, the Church steps up.

My Church works with Homeless learning the steps to Permanent Housing. The reasons for these steps are substance abuse,  other types of abuse and abused abused, even apartment maintenance to not want to flee a dirty home. And the inevitable other homeless visiting shelter and how to cope. Family relationships and relationships. Bill and income management. Making a stronger person.

What Role does Government take in feeding those in need.  

Let's look at Meals on Wheels.  Meals on Wheels is only made possible through a unique mix of government funding, support from individual donors and the volunteers that deliver the meals. ... Federal funding for senior nutrition: The Federal Government provides funding for home-delivered meals through Older Americans Act nutrition programs.

The funding is bare bones. 

What would the Scriptures say about bare bones?  

Leviticus 17:11 

For the life of the body is in its blood.

Bones generate blood and Blood is Life.

Life. The Volunteers in many areas work wonders with the canned deliveries. The Challenge is to stay within strict guidelines for the elderly, in items - like salt intake - and still remain tasty for those less restricted. Grocery Stores donate day old items, like cakes, to the delight of the older clients and the joyous volunteers. Minus the Diabetic Client. Yet, Celebration Happens.

Churches frequently bring Volunteers to Meals on Wheels.

What is Pro Life?

Pro Life is absolutely terrified of being sued for abuse. 

In fact, Pro Life, joins together Pro Life nationally to engage attornies to root out abuses and lawsuits before they occur. Why not give up? Being anti-abuse has been very successful for Pro Life. This is, frankly, a Victory of God Himself. You can be very assured your donation of usable goods and money to Pro Life is going to reap a Harvest as well.

The Dynamic Purpose of Pro Life and Pro Life  Church Volunteers even reaches to Homelessness. 

Actual Homelessness is going to be very tenderly referred, and with actual rides, to Homelessness Help Agencies. Seeing their clients overcome and being victorious over Homelessness.

How is Pro Life helping Homelessness this directly?  

The USA has had 60 million abortions since the 1970s. And if there is an abortion rally - you are going to find 59.99 Million MISSING abortive moms NOT CELEBRATING abortion. Pro Life offers forgiveness counselling for the post abortive parents. (At this point you are saying - how is this helping Homelessness?) What we proclaim as doing to the least of us, is being done to all of us. The next two paragraphs will explain.

 

How is this for all of us? Pro Life is a gateway to Not Being Homeless.

Pro Life has all types of assistance to those who are sometimes in melt down mode. 

More than ten percent of Homelessness is further caused by another form of counseling Pro Life does - parental counsel of abandonment of children ages 18 years to 24 years. This group is highly at risk for Homelessness. Post abortive parents without counseling are sometimes muddled up in concentric circles about parenting. Before you let depression sink in, realize how many abortive parents go on to have multiple, multiple children in recompense and are actually Wonderful Parents.

Ah, you might be thinking only Pregnant Young People. No. Nope. Nada. 

Pro Life Church Volunteers assist. Preventing Gateway Homelessness.

• Counsel the abandoned in crisis.
• Counsel the Pregnant.
• Counsel Young Parents
• Aid Babies, Young Children and Parents in counsel and goods.
• Aid sexual crisis. 
• Aid STD recovery emotionally and with testing.
• Aid the unloved.
• Great Help. 

In fact, Pro Life counsels people with Sexually Transmitted Diseases. A lot of STDs. (Oh no, my gosh, horrors the use of the word disease near Sex?!! Disease - a disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant, especially one that produces specific signs or symptoms or that affects a specific location and is not simply a direct result of physical injury.) A disease can kill you. In fact there are 4 STDs that will kill you.  And in 2016, there were 28 well known STD in the USA. STDs are a mental injury of some impact and not only a physical disease.

STD. 

This can lead to Homelessness. 

People generally Cry when they find out they have an STD. Especially those seeking only to be loved in loveless lives.

Pro Life counsels young people who need to talk to someone kindly about sex and relationships. Counseling to fortify and forgive the cruel mind games people play on each other who thought James Bond had it all together. Think again about Homelessness. And the role of Love and lack thereof. Sexual relationships and self esteem - a huge bond between Spirit and soul and strength.

The Homeless are homeless for many reasons.

What Role does Government take in helping those in need.  

Funding. And not overstepping morality. Morality like STD can be used in anger games. 

We need our Jesus Compass to keep games unplayed.

Jesus is our Strength. Because Jesus finds us Joy.

Our History. Our Nation was founded upon Religious Freedom. 

Civil Rights Strategies took place in Churches.

We don't find we remind ourselves often enough about our Church History.  

Civil Rights frequently met in Churches. Where truly peaceful protests were carefully planned. The Church is where the Civil Rights Freedoms began to be diligently and carefully given strategy to Build  us - all - up. White Churches. Black Churches. Not Republicans versus Democrats. One Body of Christ. Not Greek or Jew - instead where we all Encounter the Living God - Spirit.  And, actually, White Churches in the South. The North, too.  

Never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never forget. As a reminder in the Body of Christ, Martin Luther King, Jr. was indeed, indeed, indeed a Reverend of Jesus Christ.

Government isn't the point. Government is the pointer. Big problems, big government, buy buy buy isn't better.

The Crisis. The Comfort. We've learned this year fears increased insecurities. Our Comfort is from Father God. His vehicle is the Church.

Wail? Comfort. Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ.

John 10:9 

 I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved 

and will go in and out and find pasture.

In Crisis, California took to the Beaches to Pray 

 His Good Creation !

Abba, Our Father,

Today, even giving Comfort is truly stressful.

Even giving Comfort involves stating 'your opinion.'

John 17 ~ Glorify your Son that the Son may glorify You

John 17

When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, 2 since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. 4 I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.

6 “I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you. 8 For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. 9 I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours. 10 All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them. 11 And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. 

12 While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. 

16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.

20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 

22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. 24 Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. 

25 O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me. 26 I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

This year we have all wondered, at least once, "Where is God?"

When we say Scripture supports Scripture, we also have to remember Jesus said to know Scripture is to know the Power of God. God takes His Word literally.

Jesus told us to pray, "Our Father Who art in Heaven." John 17 begins, "When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you"

So where is God our Father when we pray? 

Jesus has placed God in Heaven. Why do we close our eyes to pray and look down? What about the Bible Verses telling us Elijah found God's voice to be quiet? And not in the massive signs around Elijah.

Deuteronomy 31:8 

It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.”

Moses, in the Holy Spirit, saw God physically in front of them in this Journey. The Journey did not always lead them where they wanted. And yet Moses saw the future belongs and is protected by God. Moses did have extreme optimism and hope.

Joshua 1:9 

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua was actually worried when this Word of God came to him. God spoke to the fearful. And His Beloved.

Matthew 28:20 

Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

When Jesus tells us He is with us until the end of the age, 

Jesus is saying the Age of Jesus is Forever. And ever. Alleluia.

God's Position is Clear!

Hebrews 4:16 

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

The summation of John 17 is God being straightforward in John 14:

John 14:1-31 

Let not your hearts be troubled. 

Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 

Let not your hearts be troubled. 

Isaiah 41:10-13 

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with My Righteous Right Hand. 

Behold, all who are incensed against you shall be put to shame and confounded; those who strive against you shall be as nothing and shall perish. You shall seek those who contend with you, but you shall not find them; those who war against you shall be as nothing at all. For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”

God tells us exactly where He is.

Father God is the Creator of All Things. We know God sits on His Throne. God also says why do you think you can build me a house. God is near and far. He inhales our prayers. He knows our name and days before we are born. Jesus is saying God is everywhere. His Holy Spirit used to be said to hover over the waters in Genesis. Jesus placed The Light of God in the world and in mankind. When God says He holds us in His Right Hand, He does.

Isaiah 66 

Thus says the Lord:

“Heaven is my throne,

    and the earth is my footstool;

what is the house that you would build for me,

    and what is the place of my rest?

2 All these things my hand has made,

    and so all these things came to be,

declares the Lord.

But this is the one to whom I will look:

    he who is humble and contrite in spirit

    and trembles at my Word.

Abba, Heavenly Father,

2 Corinthians 1:22 

and He has also set His seal upon us, 

and has put His Spirit into our hearts 

as a pledge and foretaste of future blessing.

Romans 5:5 

Now hope does not disappoint, 

because the love of God 

has been poured out in our hearts 

by the Holy Spirit 

who was given to us.

Father God has said a remnant will always remain.

I hope to be in that Number when the Saints go marching in. 

And because we believe, we help children, when it's not always easy to help. 

As Father God's child, 

we comfort those in extreme distress and emotion. 

We deal with endless details of another household to comfort the dying. 

We send aid to other countries to be the hands of Jesus Christ doing to the least of our brothers. 

We comfort the wounded and see to their needs. Even the oxen placed in our care, will have mercy. 

Living water of God overflow around us to be Grace upon Grace at home, near and far. We are unable to do all we could think of and see and touch, we need Jesus who fills every iota and completes all dots. Jesus is Grace upon Grace. Place us, Father, this day and always where You want us. 

Encourage and uphold us. 

We will remember our answered Prayers. 

And live this Day. Looking in expectation.

You will strengthen us and the ones we Love. 

We will Seek You first and find Your Kingdom.

Covering us with the Name and Power of Jesus.

Psalm 130 ~ O Lord, hear my voice!

 

Psalm 130

Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord!

2     O Lord, hear my voice!

Let your ears be attentive

    to the voice of my pleas for mercy!

3 If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities,

    O Lord, who could stand?

4 But with you there is forgiveness,

    that you may be feared.

5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,

    and in his word I hope;

6 my soul waits for the Lord

    more than watchmen for the morning,

    more than watchmen for the morning.

7 O Israel, hope in the Lord!

    For with the Lord there is steadfast love,

    and with him is plentiful redemption.

8 And he will redeem Israel

    from all his iniquities.

Early Saturday morning, about 3 a.m., the Texas subtropics coast were about thirty degrees cooler than usual.  A very wake you up experience. What do we think of and think about in the middle of the night when freezing cold? The most comforting thoughts are the Strength of God.

Walk with the Lord, look to His Word and find the Comfort building us up. 

His Love encouraging and giving strength. Fully live the Confidence of Jesus Christ. 

2 Corinthians 1:15

And in this confidence I was minded to visit you first, that ye might have a double blessing

19 For Jesus Christ, the Son of God, does not waver between “Yes” and “No.” He is the one whom Silas, Timothy, and I preached to you, and as God’s ultimate “Yes,” He always does what He says. 20 For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for His glory.

This year has not seen hostility all year long. 

It wasn't until May was almost over, and then we saw  upheavals history tells us surround pandemic or plague. Before violence, we simply had hope for families to stay well. Quarantine was something we never considered would happen. Anger had not been pervasive. History tells us fear sets off great anger.

The Word of God overcomes hostility.

Hebrews 12 

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, (especially as we did quarantine) let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. 

2 Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy (God says creation is Good and Jesus says Life is Joy.) Joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider Him who endured from sinners such hostility against Himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.

God is so good. 

He does not want us to be weary or fainthearted. Knowing full well the 12 Disciples were problematic. Going all the way back to the problematic sons of Jacob - all 12. Worrisome and quarrelsome. Fearful and questioning. God wants to save thee. And The Entire World. Father God sees Life as eternal and the flesh is sometimes willing, while the Spirit is fed by seeking God and His Word. Seek and find. Jesus identifies His Father as "The One Who is Good." Luke 18:19 

Philippians 2:16

As you hold forth the Word of Life, in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.

God, Himself, knows the Disciples went back to fishing in the Sea of Galilee after Good Friday.

We can count on God's Tender Mercies and His Strength.

Hebrews 4:16 

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

2 Corinthians 1:3 

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort.

The Scriptures have enormous discussions regarding fear and anger. God anticipates helping us work through disquiet. God our Father Jesus assures us. Good Father.

Proverbs 3 

24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you rest, your sleep will be sweet. 25 Do not fear sudden danger or the ruin that overtakes the wicked,26 for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from the snare.

I find Proverbs 3 most comforting as: Do not be afraid of sudden fear. Easy to remember and grab hold.

2 Corinthians 7 A Letter to us from Jesus during this time:

14 Indeed, I was not embarrassed by anything I had boasted to him about you. But just as everything we said to you was true, so our boasting to Titus has proved to be true as well. 15 Also his affections are increased all the more for you as he remembers the obedience of you all, that you received him with awe and trembling. 16 I rejoice that I can have complete confidence in you.

Remember, Titus - as Shepherd - had a very long life on the Island of Crete, where the dispersion Jews traveled to meet Jesus and ask Him to visit them. Seek and find the treasures of His Living Word. Jesus in His Word displays His reward.

Jesus loves the animal analogies, like we do and Facebook does.

Psalm 91:4 

He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge

Matthew 23:37

How often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks!

Matthew 10:29 

Not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care.

Abba, Father God,

I Believe in God and, sometimes, I feel Lost.

I Believe in Love, when sometimes I'm afraid.

I Believe in the Light of Christ, when the world erupts in anger.

I Believe Light overcomes darkness, when life looks bleak.

I Believe in Good Health and Your Healing Word,

when people speak of a new normal.

Remembering God healed Spanish Flu, Bird Flu and Swine Flu.

God has healed so much. And is Still Working.

I Believe Jesus Christ saves the world,

even on the days I pray fiercely for those I Love.

I Believe in answered prayer,

when I doubt, and reach to look at what is good

and noble and pure. I remember Answered Prayer.

I Believe Forest Fires Cease, having lived a Tri-County Fire,

as we pray for Australia and the Northwest USA.

I Believe Jesus Christ.
