Psalm 86 ~ Abounding in Steadfast Love and Faithfulness

Psalm 86

Incline your ear, O Lord, and answer me,
for I am poor and needy.
2 Preserve my life, for I am godly;
save your servant, who trusts in you—You are my God.

3 Be gracious to me, O Lord,
for to You do I cry all the day.
4 Gladden the soul of your servant,
for to You, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.

5 For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving,
abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon You.
6 Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer;
listen to my plea for grace.
7 In the day of my trouble I call upon You,
    for
You answer me.

8 There is none like you among the gods, O Lord,
nor are there any works like Yours.

9 All the nations You have made shall come
and worship before You, O Lord,
    and shall glorify Your Name.

10 For You are great and do wondrous things;
    You alone are God.
11 Teach me Your way, O Lord,
    that I may walk in Your Truth;
unite my heart to fear Your Name.

12 I give thanks to You, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,
and I will glorify Your Name forever.

13 For great is your steadfast love toward me;
You have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

14 O God, insolent men have risen up against me;
a band of ruthless men seeks my life,
and they do not set You before them.

15 But You, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.

16 Turn to me and be gracious to me;
give your strength to your servant,
and save the son of your maidservant.

17 Show me a sign of Your Favor,
that those who hate me may see and be put to shame
    because You,
Lord,
have helped me and comforted me.

Numbers 22, practically no one who knows Scripture is unaware of Balaam's Donkey and the Angel of the Lord. Balaam's writings from 1000 plus BC are written in a cave in Jordan. Balaam's sins and failures are recorded in the Bible and his victories. The Mercy of God to allow Balaam who was beating his Donkey, three times, to see an Angel of the Lord.

We love this Scripture. And to imagine the Grace of God to speak to His Balaam who was errant.  According to the New Testament, Balaam, like Ahab, did not change and grew far worse. And yet, the Mercy of God was available. With the Word of God, prophetic, not allowing the sin to go unchecked.

The Word of God records the faithful do have very unusual events happen in their lives. And, today, we can agree.  65% of praying people know God had given them answered prayer in their lives and call this answer a miracle.

12 I give thanks to You, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,
and I will glorify Your Name forever.

How do we jump from Psalm 86 to a Donkey?

We all have a donkey portion of ourselves telling us what we could have done better. Sometimes the donkey portion isn't as wise as Balaam's Donkey.

Prayer brings us back to Jesus and recenters us back on His Love and changes our hearts.

One of the most important things we can do is remember a quote from Queen Elizabeth II, who was extremely faithful, with Her Father. Paraphrasing, she said, "So many times, someone is convinced their lives are dreadful, without any joy they had hoped for. What happens next will prove, the time before was indeed joyful. And, now, they only wish they could resume the time that was known to them as dreadful and, now, seems rather peachy keen."

Jesus would agree.
And would explain in a very short verse:

Luke 19:43
Easy to remember in Historical Events, hmm.

The Days will come upon you.

Jesus said this during the Triumphant Entry of Palm Sunday. Knowing... people who had known Jesus as Grace upon Grace during His Ministry were going to flood the Temple with up to 2 million people, according to Josephus food calculations in History, what a multitude IS.
Because... we want Jesus as the exact nature of His Father and be our Thy Kingdom of Heaven come, Thy Will be done on Heaven as on earth. Give us This Day.

By the First Easter Season, the loss of Jesus' daily ministry in the flesh, was mourned, very profoundly.

We would want to not have this happen to us in our lives. We could all raise our hands to allow us to skip the portion of our lives with pain and ask Jesus specifically - we would have the opportunity to skip the more painful portions of life.

And there is a way to have this happen - Gratitude.  About a week ago, I posted this photo:

A lot of the Posts, I preach to myself. I realized about 2 days later, I was instead waking up to pray for 3 pressing needs, assuring Our Father of the correct need. When I realized this error, I began instead to list my gratitude over this and that and pointed to the gratitudes I want My Father and Your Father, to see I know my blessings and my blessings are seen and appreciated. Making my prayer conversation more appropriate for His Joy.

Having Gratitude, will uplift the heart, mind and soul. A Grateful Heart is supremely less bitter and has us jump over the puddles of quicksand called remorse. With Joy, time and today offers more opportunities.

When I'm asked to be more like Jesus, I have to say, I pray to be more like Jesus, but end up being more like Thomas. And would sincerely, with all my heart, want to be more like John, the Disciple. Thomas offered to die with Jesus and then asked to see the proof that he had seen daily. Even Thomas creates more opportunities for Jesus, knowing all people fall short. I'm supremely blessed to be Beloved of God.

Abba, Father,

From the rising of the sun to its setting,
the name of the Lord is to be Praised!

Because of the tender mercy of our God,
whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high to give light
to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet
 into
the way of peace.

We pray for Peace
as a Nation
and as the world
recovers from the loss of food
in Ukraine
and because of Pandemic Recovery

We pray for Peace
Victory over the warmonger
and the vengeful.

We'd like to see
Peace again in the Middle East
and for Ukraine
at the Border of the USA.
For Taiwan.

In the Highest Name of Jesus
we ask His Help.

John 18: 28-39 ~ The King of the Jews †

Scala Sancta, the Holy Stairs,
transferred from the archaeological ruins of Pilate's Palace to the Vatican
before 400 A.D.

The stairs are the stone seen through the wood.

John 18:28-39

28 Then the Jews led Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness the Jews did not enter the palace; they wanted to be able to eat the Passover. 29 So Pilate came out to them and asked, "What charges are you bringing against this man?"
30 "If he were not a criminal," they replied, "we would not have handed him over to you."

31 Pilate said, "Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law."

"But we have no right to execute anyone," the Jews objected. 32 This happened so that the words Jesus had spoken indicating the kind of death he was going to die would be fulfilled.

33 Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?"

34 "Is that your own idea," Jesus asked, "or did others talk to you about me?"

3 5"Am I a Jew?" Pilate replied. "It was your people and your chief priests who handed you over to me. What is it you have done?"

36 Jesus said, "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place."

37 "You are a king, then!" said Pilate.
Jesus answered, "You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me."

38 "What is truth?" Pilate asked. With this he went out again to the Jews and said, "I find no basis for a charge against him. 39 But it is your custom for me to release to you one prisoner at the time of the Passover. Do you want me to release 'the king of the Jews'?"

Scala Sancta, Vatican, uncovered from the wooden coverings typically placed there.

To Pilate, this felt like he could lose standing with the Emperor. There was no Legion stationed in Jerusalem, Pontius Pilate was only the rank of Equestrian, so he could not garrison a full legion under his command. Jerusalem was garrisoned by Cohors II Italica, it was only one Auxiliary cohort. Another, probably, at Caesarea.

Each of these auxiliary units would have been commanded by a tribune. There are 10 cohorts in a Legion and Judea had two cohorts.

Pilate had not wanted to go to Judea.
Pilate would only be in Judea from 28 A.D. to 38 A.D. He wrote a famous letter to Claudius about Good Friday, referred to by historians of the day. Lost.

The predecessor of Pilate....5th Governor of Judea

Valerius Gratus  4th Governor of Judea
He succeeded Annius Rufus in 15 and was replaced by Pontius Pilate in 26 or 28 A.D.

The government of Gratus, chiefly remarkable for many and frequent changes Gratus made in the appointment of the high-priesthood. Let that sink in.

He deposed Ananus, and substituted Ishmael ben Fabus, then Eleazar, son of Arianus, then Simon, son of Camith, and lastly Joseph Caiaphas, the son-in-law of Ananus.

Pilate could have shoved this off on the High Priest. "

Ananias son of Nedebeus was a high priest who, according to the Acts of the Apostles, presided during the trials of the apostle Paul at Jerusalem. In Roman History, it's a fair assertion that Ananus of Roman History is Aramaic for Ananias. We could reconstruct a mental guess conversation, that did not take place.

Pilate would say to Ananias, he certainly looked comfortable being High Priest. And now it was time for Ananias to step forward and make his real employer, the Roman Empire, to become more comfortable and do what the High Priests have done, like Samuel, for centuries. To slay the unrighteous in their eyes. As Rome has done.

Pilate didn't want the backwaters of the suburb of their greater Roman Empire in Syria. Historians say the papers exist of his requests. And Pilate did make violence during a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, during Holy Days. Pilate, constantly on the alert for insurrection.  Would have noticed events like Capernaum, all 3 thousand turning up the first day of Jesus' ministry. And then what Scriptures call the 'Large Crowd.' Still following Jesus to the widow of Nain's son being raised to life as Jesus merely touches the funeral bier. Which quickly became the "Great Crowd."

Yes, we can easily assert and find correct assumptions, Pilate knew from oral history as part of Israel, Messiah Claims cause death from Rome and from the History of both Israel and Judea.

Instead, Pilate made a huge error, seeking his career and comfort. And he did this without planning. As if he didn't take the time to examine this huge mistake. We realize the lack of depth in Pilate. This was too easy.  If Pilate regretted what he was doing to the man who healed them all, the blind, the deaf, the lame, the leper, Pilate would have put as much thought as he did to the Holy Day murders by clubs, apparently by men dressed in Civilian clothes and later revealed as soldiers. Pilate saw the conclusion from the Great Crowd and the Large Crowd. And went with comfort and a jump to this decision.

Ascend.

Don't be Pilate.

Jesus said He could call down 12 Legions of Angels. Stick with Jesus. His Angels arrive with memorable Style.

Abba, Yes, thank you, Father

For Jesus Christ
Messiah, Savior
of not the few
but of the world.

Draw us to You.

Oh, the places He would go. You uphold Life by Your Word.  A Beautiful Promise and Sure Truth. Life Forevermore in Jesus the Only Son of God. God is Truth.

Dwell in the people we Love
Dwell in the people you have given us
Please, Father

Help us to seek You First
And we will finish well in Jesus Christ.

Judges 16 ~ 28 Then Samson called to the Lord

Creation painted by Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, ceiling of the Sistene Chapel

Judges 16

April 2, 2011,  Chosen before seeing the Scripture, most days this is the Way!

Samson went to Gaza, and there he saw a prostitute, and he went in to her. The Gazites were told, “Samson has come here.” And they surrounded the place and set an ambush for him all night at the gate of the city. They kept quiet all night, saying, “Let us wait till the light of the morning; then we will kill him.” But Samson lay till midnight, and at midnight he arose and took hold of the doors of the gate of the city and the two posts, and pulled them up, bar and all, and put them on his shoulders and carried them to the top of the hill that is in front of Hebron.

After this he loved a woman in the Valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah. And the lords of the Philistines came up to her and said to her, “Seduce him, and see where his great strength lies, and by what means we may overpower him, that we may bind him to humble him. And we will each give you 1,100 pieces of silver.” So Delilah said to Samson, “Please tell me where your great strength lies, and how you might be bound, that one could subdue you.”

Samson said to her, “If they bind me with seven fresh bowstrings that have not been dried, then I shall become weak and be like any other man.” Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven fresh bowstrings that had not been dried, and she bound him with them. Now she had men lying in ambush in an inner chamber. And she said to him, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” But he snapped the bowstrings, as a thread of flax snaps when it touches the fire. So the secret of his strength was not known.

10 Then Delilah said to Samson, “Behold, you have mocked me and told me lies. Please tell me how you might be bound.” 11 And he said to her, “If they bind me with new ropes that have not been used, then I shall become weak and be like any other man.” 12 So Delilah took new ropes and bound him with them and said to him, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” And the men lying in ambush were in an inner chamber. But he snapped the ropes off his arms like a thread.

13 Then Delilah said to Samson, “Until now you have mocked me and told me lies. Tell me how you might be bound.” And he said to her, “If you weave the seven locks of my head with the web and fasten it tight with the pin, then I shall become weak and be like any other man.” 14 So while he slept, Delilah took the seven locks of his head and wove them into the web [and fasten it tight . . . into the web ]. And she made them tight with the pin and said to him, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” But he awoke from his sleep and pulled away the pin, the loom, and the web.

15 And she said to him, “How can you say, ‘I love you,’ when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times, and you have not told me where your great strength lies.” 16 And when she pressed him hard with her words day after day, and urged him, his soul was vexed to death. 17 And he told her all his heart, and said to her, “A razor has never come upon my head, for I have been a Nazirite to God from my mother's womb. If my head is shaved, then my strength will leave me, and I shall become weak and be like any other man.”

18 When Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called the lords of the Philistines, saying, “Come up again, for he has told me all his heart.” Then the lords of the Philistines came up to her and brought the money in their hands. 19 She made him sleep on her knees. And she called a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his head. Then she began to torment him, and his strength left him. 20 And she said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” And he awoke from his sleep and said, “I will go out as at other times and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him. 21 And the Philistines seized him and gouged out his eyes and brought him down to Gaza and bound him with bronze shackles. And he ground at the mill in the prison. 22 But the hair of his head began to grow again after it had been shaved.

Described Biblically Correctly, AGAIN

23 Now the lords of the Philistines gathered to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god and to rejoice, and they said, “Our god has given Samson our enemy into our hand.” 24 And when the people saw him, they praised their god. For they said, “Our god has given our enemy into our hand, the ravager of our country, who has killed many of us.” 25 And when their hearts were merry, they said, “Call Samson, that he may entertain us.” So they called Samson out of the prison, and he entertained them. They made him stand between the pillars.

26 And Samson said to the young man who held him by the hand, “Let me feel the pillars on which the house rests, that I may lean against them.” 27 Now the house was full of men and women. All the lords of the Philistines were there, and on the roof there were about 3,000 men and women, who looked on while Samson entertained.

28 Then Samson called to the Lord and said, “O Lord God, please remember me and please strengthen me only this once, O God, that I may be avenged on the Philistines for my two eyes.”

29 And Samson grasped the two middle pillars on which the house rested, and he leaned his weight against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other. 30 And Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines.” Then he bowed with all his strength, and the house fell upon the lords and upon all the people who were in it. So the dead whom he killed at his death were more than those whom he had killed during his life.

31 Then his brothers and all his family came down and took him and brought him up and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the tomb of Manoah his father. He had judged Israel twenty years.

A lot of us have grown up thinking Samson was a yut
How would you explain to kids in Sunday School, Samson was actually a dichotomy between gift of God and menace.  A dichotomy between blessed and narcissist. Samson is an addict, a man taking such pleasure in the blessing of strength, he is a sexual addict.

We could have been taught as children - Samson is a mirror image of David gone awry.

Here is a cornerstone -  Samson was born golden. Samson never had to struggle with indifference of others, false accusation, abandonment, his parents didn't have 8 sons - where he is considered least, he doesn't appear to have a pivotal situation of moral consequences trust into his life without his choice. Samson seems to have it all handed to him. And acts more like Goliath than David. One of the thoughts in this passage is, trouble defines us in our choices. An unsought blessing.

Samson is a deeper dichotomy of government following man-made rules of hate, allowing a veneer of righteousness. He is the epitome of hate talk, hate actions given a place of authority.

Giving the unsaved, an excuse of "The Crusades" to avoid knowing the Love of God. Giving the saved a chance to look at following blindly a hateful righteousness. Look for God to have a Spirit of Truthfulness with Mercy. Look at this passage again to see if God is plainly speaking or if it is a passage of man interpreting God to be just like them. God asks for holiness. This is the tangle of doing what feels right versus the holiness of God. It is what Judges became.

Judges 13

And the people of Israel again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, so the Lord gave them into the hand of the Philistines for forty years.

There was a certain man of Zorah, of the tribe of the Danites, whose name was Manoah. And his wife was barren and had no children.

And the angel of the Lord appeared to the woman and said to her, “Behold, you are barren and have not borne children, but you shall conceive and bear a son. Therefore be careful and drink no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing unclean, for behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. No razor shall come upon his head, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb, and he shall begin to save Israel from the hand of the Philistines.”

Then the woman came and told her husband, “A man of God came to me, and his appearance was like the appearance of the angel of God, very awesome. I did not ask him where he was from, and he did not tell me his name, but he said to me, ‘Behold, you shall conceive and bear a son. So then drink no wine or strong drink, and eat nothing unclean, for the child shall be a Nazirite to God from the womb to the day of his death.’”

Then Manoah prayed to the Lord and said, “O Lord, please let the man of God whom you sent come again to us and teach us what we are to do with the child who will be born.”

And God listened to the voice of Manoah, and the angel of God came again to the woman as she sat in the field. But Manoah her husband was not with her.

10 So the woman ran quickly and told her husband, “Behold, the man who came to me the other day has appeared to me.” 11 And Manoah arose and went after his wife and came to the man and said to him, “Are you the man who spoke to this woman?” And he said, “I am.” 12 And Manoah said, “Now when your words come true, what is to be the child's manner of life, and what is his mission?” 13 And the angel of the Lord said to Manoah, “Of all that I said to the woman let her be careful. 14 She may not eat of anything that comes from the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, or eat any unclean thing. All that I commanded her let her observe.”

15 Manoah said to the angel of the Lord, “Please let us detain you and prepare a young goat for you.” 16 And the angel of the Lord said to Manoah, “If you detain me, I will not eat of your food. But if you prepare a burnt offering, then offer it to the Lord.” (For Manoah did not know that he was the angel of the Lord.) 17 And Manoah said to the angel of the Lord, “What is your name, so that, when your words come true, we may honor you?” 18 And the angel of the Lord said to him, “Why do you ask my name, seeing it is wonderful * ?” 19 So Manoah took the young goat with the grain offering, and offered it on the rock to the Lord, to the one who works [works of the Lord] wonders, and Manoah and his wife were watching. 20 And when the flame went up toward heaven from the altar, the angel of the Lord went up in the flame of the altar. Now Manoah and his wife were watching, and they fell on their faces to the ground.

21 The angel of the Lord appeared no more to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of the Lord22 And Manoah said to his wife, “We shall surely die, for we have seen God.” 23 But his wife said to him, “If the Lord had meant to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and a grain offering at our hands, or shown us all these things, or now announced to us such things as these.” 24 And the woman bore a son and called his name Samson. And the young man grew, and the Lord blessed him. 25 And the Spirit of the Lord began to stir him in Mahaneh-dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol [ = tribe of Judah, villages and western foothills].

Samson's beginning - the announcement of God's plan for Samson from the angel of the Lord declares Samson to be a Nazirite.

Numbers 6:1-8

The LORD said to Moses, 2 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them:
‘If a man or woman wants to make a special vow, a vow of dedication to the LORD as a Nazirite3 they must abstain from wine and other fermented drink and must not drink vinegar made from wine or other fermented drink. They must not drink grape juice or eat grapes or raisins. 4 As long as they remain under their Nazirite vow, they must not eat anything that comes from the grapevine, not even the seeds or skins.

5 “‘During the entire period of their Nazirite vow, no razor may be used on their head. They must be holy until the period of their dedication to the LORD is over; they must let their hair grow long.

6 “‘Throughout the period of their dedication to the LORD, the Nazirite must not go near a dead body. 7 Even if their own father or mother or brother or sister dies, they must not make themselves ceremonially unclean on account of them, because the symbol of their dedication to God is on their head. 8 Throughout the period of their dedication, they are consecrated to the LORD.

Because we have all fallen short of the glory of God, as sinners, it is the Lord's plan to interweave all things for good in His time and plan. Blending into Samson's victorious plan as a Judge of Israel, he sets out to marry a Philistine woman. In Judges 14, it is announced Samson is using this marriage to destroy the Philistines. Samson takes too much pleasure in taunting the Philistine men. Samson discovers it hurts to be rejected, even after self-centeredness edging towards sadism.

Pride rears up when his father-in-law casually offers the younger sister in holy matrimony. Is one person just as easily exchanged for another? Hasn't Samson done the exact same thing in using his marriage as a ploy to destroy his enemies? Haven't other Biblical patriarchs had to work through the theft of a blessing? Like Jacob, God named Israel.

God had promised Samson a holy path, Samson's planning is the problem. Samson is trusting the untrustworthy, perhaps in an attempt to say - he is trustworthy. Not all that bad deep down.

Samson tells Delilah if she hurts him, he will be just like any other man. A lot of times we set ourselves apart - not for holiness - telling ourselves our situation is different than others. It is a cry Charlie Sheen used, all have used. We are like every other person in this world, in a very aggrandized fashion - sometimes hurt, sometimes hurt-er.

A lot in this Scripture passage is difficult to fit precisely into our own lives. Yet, there are some pretty profound truths. Hurting others, hurts us and sends us down a twisted path. Justice in life isn't swift, it isn't accurate and we usually find a way to almost justify to ourselves our own deeds. When we focus on what should be fair in life, using only our own judgment, our own wants - the path is not made straight. This path is Far from straight... God does not abandon Samson even in the midst of his self-destruction.

God's ways are Holy. We judge God to be like us.

In this passage, God does not speak, but prayers are spoken to Him.

Judges represents a time when people tried to govern themselves, but they were all doing what felt "right" to them.

How does Samson truly perceive God Almighty to be different from Dagon - the Philistine god? Perhaps the Philistines and Samson had all met their match.

Micah 6:8

He has told you, O man, what is good; and
what does the LORD require of you but to do justice,
and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God

Exodus 23:25

You shall serve the LORD your God, and he will bless your bread and your water,
and I will take sickness away from among you.

Luke 10:27

Jesus answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind,
and your neighbor as yourself.”

Psalm 27:11

Teach me your way, O LORD,
and lead me on a level path because of my enemies.

Proverbs 4:26

Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure.
or
Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm.

Father God, in blessings and in adversity,
You have made them both. Help us not to seek revenge or dwell in grudges. Help us, Lord, to begin these attitudes and actions of love with our parents and continue it into our larger lives. Teach us each day to love others. Let Your Light shine in us and drive out our darkness. In Your Grace we rest and not in our own goodness. In the Highest name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

How much easier in Jesus Christ to find a straight path, not trusting in ourselves independently. Allowing the judgment to come from God. Believing He will set His path before us to walk. Trusting in His grace.

Samson believed he was a tool of destruction. Samson believed his way was the way. When he wanted a woman, regardless of all wisdom. The answer changed in Samson's mind to support his actions. Samson believes some people should be wiped out to make others more on the path Samson supported.

David was the Great Shepherd. He delighted in God before his anointing. David saw himself as a servant of the Lord. To make a Great Light. Do you believe this? David's Palace was  built using Phoenician architecture. David stockpiled so much of the Temple building, he was only asking Solomon to assemble the pieces.

David had workers helping from Tyre, cedars of Lebanon

David was a Light bearer, a Light Bringer. David included those who had insulted, neglected, shunned and been aside from the majority of his mercenary decades. Our David sought the Lord and His Joy all his days. King David wasn't the best father with so many women. Yet even as the children fell aside, apart from God's Goodness, David prayed for his children and wept.

Enemies and Tragedies struck David and Solomon. Revenge and Grudges were the turn aside from God and do this your own way. Never letting an opportunity to destroy go. David had wars, killed, paid to kill, but David came back with revenge and grudges piled up. He saw The Light.

2 Corinthians 5

1 For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, 3 if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. 4 For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.

5 He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

6 So we are always of good courage.
We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, 7 for we walk by faith, not by sight.

8 Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.

10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.

11 Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others.
But what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience. 12 We are not commending ourselves to you again but giving you cause to boast about us, so that you may be able to answer those who boast about outward appearance and not about what is in the heart. 13 For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.

14 For the love of Christ controls us,
because we have concluded this:

That one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and He died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for Him who for their sake died and was raised.

16 From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard Him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself

And gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to Himself

Not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

When we look at the Long Sermons of Jesus, we find He is a Comforter to the people. Healer.

When we look at the Long Talks of Jesus, we find Jesus has Joy. Jesus seeks Joy and says, Give us this Day.

Jesus is not slow to point out the need for Love over power.  Jesus tells the people He sits with, He is the Light of the world. Jesus took the time to speak to Pontius Pilate. Restore an ear to a guard. Jesus never returned to the Temple after He Rose from the Dead, but to see the Path of Jesus in Life, Ministry, Trial and Victory is to see Jesus finding the willing to Love.

Look at the Essenes. Jesus never walked out to the Essenes and said, nice job leaving the Temple, storing and coping the Scriptures for millenniums. Instead, The Gospels record Zechariah, the people assisting Zechariah and understanding... an Angel. Amazing insight to a Spiritual Event.  Simeon, Anna, Nicodemus, Joseph of Arimathea. Jesus spoke of His Body as a Temple and in the same breath told of the Temple. Jesus wasn't far from the Temple.

Look at the manner of God's Son's Death. Jesus did not put on Sack Cloth and Mourn His Life.
Jesus did not go from town to town discussing the Pharisees. Jesus did not say to the blind man, remember the time you did...That. Jesus did not say, What, to the woman who would stay by His Side like a pet dog, to help her child. Jesus didn't say the Tower fell over to tell you about the sins of your lives.  Sometimes events happen. Jesus is Grace upon Grace. He Let Love Flow. He Lives!

Jesus said Know the Scripture, Know the Power of God.

Jesus brings us Samson to say, if you judge yourself righteous, you seek all grudges, seek all fights, to destroy others to believe your comforts and beliefs because you are always right, all authority, all of God, you might be... Samson. Samson remembers God in Verse 28.

David had terrible wars, fights, mercenary events, but David could come back to the Lord. Not all that kingship was so personally great. He died being formal with the wife who had been with him living in ditches and being formal with the wife he held on to past the scandal of murder.

One set to destroy, one set to include and expand the boundaries for Light.

About scripture-for-today.blogspot.com/

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He has saved all who call upon His name and rely on Him for His Grace. The Scriptures are living & active and are for understanding the Lord Almighty. Biblical readings are chosen from the Ecumenical Christian Church and the Nicene Council, 325 A.D., approved Apocrypha. People remember not just from reading, but by sight and orally- an image has been added as well as audio readings. God tends to link the passages together with fascinates - this blogger, Anne-Laurel Gardere

About Me

My photo
Email registry at bottom.! “All Scripture is inspired by God” (2 Timothy 3:16). Men “moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God” (2 Peter 1:21). The Holy Spirit carried men along, moving and guiding them as they wrote in their own words what God wanted them to say. The Bible is unique; comprised of 80 separate books, & written over a period of thousands of years by more than 40 writers with one Author, spanning the centuries, different states of peace & war & different situations in life. The Bible answers the question: of who is God, who is man & what can their relationship can be. Although the Bible was written on perishable material and copied by hand for many centuries, its accuracy is not in doubt, proven by Dead Sea Scrolls and papyrus from 2,000 years. The Bible has survived persecution & criticism to be read with great interest in each generation. The Bible gives witness to the greatness of the Creator. A loving Father concerned for all of his creation. With each verse of the bible witnessing to God is love and the multitude & vastness of His attributes. The Bible was written for you. <><
