2 John ~ abides in us and will be with us forever

Matthew 2:14

14 And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt 15 and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had Spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my son.”

2 John

1 The elder to the elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth, and not only I, but also all who know the truth, 2 because of the truth that abides in us and will be with us forever:

3 Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Father's Son, in truth and love.

4 I rejoiced greatly to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as we were commanded by the Father.

5 And now I ask you, dear lady—not as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had from the beginning—that we love one another.

6 And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments; this is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it. 7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist.

8 Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward. 9 Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God.

Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, 11 for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.

12 Though I have much to write to you, I would rather not use paper and ink. Instead I hope to come to you and talk face to face, so that our joy may be complete.

13 The children of your elect sister greet you.

We know Mary had a sister. And they were family.

John 19:25

Standing by the cross of Jesus
were His Mother
and His Mother's Sister, Mary the wife of Clopas,
and Mary Magdalene.

Both Mark and Matthew
also mention that Jesus had sisters,
though they are not named.

It is assumed that when Constantine was sent to Bethlehem,
the great nephew descendants of Jesus were included in this list.

Mark 7:31-37

Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre and went through Sidon,
down to the Sea of Galilee and into the region of the Decapolis.

32 There some people brought to Him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk, and they begged Jesus to place His Hand on him. 33 After He took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put His Fingers into the man's ears. Then He spit and touched the man's tongue. 34 He looked up to Heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, "Ephphatha!" (which means "Be opened!"). 3

5 At this, the man's ears were opened,
his tongue was loosened
and
he began to speak plainly.

The reason we have Lent, Jesus makes a path. The way, the truth and the Life.

It must have been terrifying to walk
through the Red Sea.

And yet, for the whole of the Exodus
God was with them.

Lent,
Emmanuel
God with us.

Mary and Joseph
must have worried to be going to Egypt.

God was with them.

Lent is not the most
comfortable
times.
God is with us.

Nazareth would
see
God
was
their Help,
Helper,
Comfort,
Comforter.

Jesus has said
Days will come

Nazareth 1901

View from Nazareth today
Mt Tabor
Valley of Jezreel

Mark 6

He went away from there and came to His hometown, and His Disciples followed Him.

And on the Sabbath
He began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard Him were astonished, saying, “Where did this Man get these things? What is the wisdom given to Him? How are such mighty works done by His Hands? 3 Is not this the carpenter, the Son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?”

How are such mighty works done by His Hands?

The city of Nazareth asked a question. And the persistence of Jesus is an important aspect of our Jesus and His Gospels.  This is a defining question today regarding the Life of Jesus. Jesus had options. John 12 records the Jewish Dispersion in Greece wanted Jesus to escape Herod and come with them to Greece. Jesus declined, even, to meet them. Jesus asked in the Garden of Gethsemane to allow God to change His Plans. And Jesus bowed to His Father's Will. Jesus knew He could call 12 Legions of Angels. More than the 1.5 stationed in Judea and Syria of the Roman garrisoned army.

How are such mighty works done by His Hands?

Matthew 19:26

Jesus looked at them and said,
“With man it is impossible, but not with God.
 For all things
are possible
with God.”

Matthew 17:20

“Truly I tell you,
if you have faith
as small as a mustard seed,
you can say to this mountain,
'Move from here to there,'
and it will move.

Nothing will be impossible for you.

Romans 12:2

Do not be conformed to this world,
but be transformed by the renewal of your mind,
that by testing
you may discern what is the will of God,
what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Our Father, Abba,

We cover  all our needs with  “Jesus.”

And Your Words to us.

Our Father, Who is in Heaven,
Holy is Your Name
Your Kingdom comes
We want Your will to be done
on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day,
our Daily Living Bread.

Forgive us our sin,
as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation.
Deliver us from evil.

As John saw,
For thine is the Kingdom,
thine is the Power,
thine is the Glory.

Forever and ever.
In Jesus' Name, we pray.
Amen.

Believing Jesus.

Amen

Psalm 7:2-3, 9-12 ~ O searcher of heart and soul

(Not Aunt Eloise's art)

Psalm 7:2-3, 9-12

2  O Lord, my God, in you I take refuge.

O LORD, my God, in you I take refuge;
save me from all my pursuers and rescue me,
Lest I become like the lion's prey,
to be torn to pieces, with no one to rescue me.

O Lord, my God, in you I take refuge.

Do me justice, O LORD, because I am just,
and because of the innocence that is mine.
Let the malice of the wicked come to an end,
but sustain the just,
O searcher of heart and soul, O just God.

O Lord, my God, in you I take refuge.

A shield before me is God,
who saves the upright of heart;
A just judge is God,
a God who punishes day by day.

O Lord, my God, in you I take refuge.

We don't really listen to melodious melodies. We don't often listen to the sounds of birds. Or even a rainstorm.  Instead, we entertain ourselves with noise and constant inputs.  And from time to time, have stress we don't always understand. There is no condemnation in Jesus Christ.

God of Love

God of Encouragement

And His Word reveals Himself to our core

Proverbs 3:25

“Do not be afraid of sudden panic,
or
of the storm that strikes the wicked

For the LORD will be your confidence
 and
will keep your foot from being caught.”

My great aunt, Eloise, had a prayer beside her front door.  The gardener, the chef, the farm in her yard, the painter, the student of painting, the needle pointer, the weaver of wool thread, the knitter.  The Church Shepherd bringing meals to those in need. The wife. The speaker.  The daughter, the sister to her younger sister, my grandmother since she was a toddler, sewing teacher, dry goods advisor and sales. Smocking guide and doer. The mother.  The quilter.  The hospitality to family in need.  The conversationalist. A ready help.

Aunt Eloise's prayer next to her front door and beside the staircase:

Lord, My God, Be with me today,
Father, I shall be very busy.
Do not forget me.
I need You, Father.

In Jesus Christ, Amen.

It is an old Scottish Gaelic prayer and isn't spelled in the vernacular of today.

The Prayer is on a rust piece of roofing slate and the color yellow Ochre for the words.  When quoting the prayer, it isn't touching to read it exactly, with the inflections, as it is in her place, in her home. Aunt Eloise told me she placed the prayer, to have the daylight of the front door illuminate the prayer. It was very dear to her.   And she placed it on the staircase to rise above the business and the self-care.

Sincerity to the Lord is in the heart. And His Heart is always open to real and earnest prayer.

2 Timothy 1:5

I am reminded of your sincere faith,
a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother
 Lois
and your mother Eunice and
now,
I am sure, dwells in you as well.

If we lead busy lives. If we lead lives to wander and, yet, not to be lost.  We should, each day, consider how those we love will remember us.

I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come
Watching the ships roll in
And then I watch 'em roll away again,
yeah I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay

Everything still remains the same
I can't do what ten people tell me to do
So I guess I'll remain the same, yes

Aunt Eloise passed on when I was in college. She led a life of being actively busy, planning, active doing, generosity, boundaries, starts and stops due to her convictions. With her flaws, we all have. She definitely did not want a Church meal brought to her.  And no one would remember Eloise without remembering her faith and her care.  I came across the Scripture, 2 Timothy 1:5 when she was dying. And wept with sorrow and joy to have had my Aunt Eloise live in my years.

In her quiet, widow years, Aunt Eloise painted more and more. I remember and know almost all of her family has her paintings. The really well done, good paintings ... did not have a signature because she had help from her instructor.  These were the paintings we had discussions over and locators to the fore. And, you may be certain, we wrote her name on the back.

We all have times we feel sad. Stressed, weepy or emotional.  Or simply have fears. To have so much being input, we feel blasé about sorting it all out. Overwhelmed. Disinterested. Slogging on.

The Lord gives us His Word, He understands.

Stands ready to be Help, Helper, Comfort and Comforter.

And in this, we say, we know, we understand.  And remember, we can't quote His Word saying, “Are you weeping. Oh, pathetic. Oh, My Father, are you whining again. My Heavens. Wailing, Weeping, Whining, Woo. Poor you.” Nope, that is not Jesus Christ, Son of God, Deliverer.

Aunt Eloise and Grandmother believed, we can't judge if Jews, Canadians, French, Germans or Baptists or Pentecostals go to Heaven. Jesus gets to decide. (The first part was true, and it was the humor. H U M O R. Aunt Eloise was married to a devoted Baptist, Cary. Grandmother loved Confucius and wanted to see when he was introduced to Jesus Christ in His Kingdom.)  And we all have our days of being down, but we all go on. We press forward.

We live on every Word of God.  It's ok to condense and apply correctly.

Proverbs 3:25

Do not be afraid of sudden panic

Faith. Stay in Faith.

Philippians 4:1

Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for,
my joy and crown,
stand firm thus in the Lord,
my beloved.

Isaiah 1:18 ~ now

Isaiah 1:18

 “Come now, let's settle this,”

says the LORD.

“Though your sins are like scarlet,
I will make them as white as snow.

Though they are red like crimson,
I will make them as white as wool.

When we look at the events leading up to God's Planned Salvation, we see the chasm between the Ministry of Jesus Christ and those determined to end these miracles and apparent Love.

How divided were the groups of good guys and guys?
  •  They know the miracles. Blind, see. Deaf, hear, Lame, walk, Lepers, cleansed, children - raised, Lazarus, raised. The poor have good news preached to them.
  • They have known for quite some time, three Passovers, so, Three Years. Jesus has been claimed and claimed about as the Son of God.
  • They know Jesus is a son of Joseph, Nazareth glosses over the event.
  • The Sadducees in the still obtainable Sadducean Council Talmud get stuck on Mary's paternity. (Not discussing Joseph's Lineage.)
  • Jesus just had a time of Parade and Acclamation.
  • Jesus just offended the money guys in the Temple.
  • Both sides of the aisle offered up commentary pro and con.
  • Then infants and babies offered up commentary. Every one got quiet for a while.
  • They all went home to think. Over-think.
The Reaction? Two men stay loyal to God. And Nicodemus,  Joseph of Arimathea and the multitudes of women who showed up to create an avalanche of love and grief for Him. Simon of Cyrene arrived.

The Counter Reaction? Eleven men and the Sadducean Council's Night Group, Herod and Pilate - the  Guard employed by the Roman Emperor - Do this -
  • They do what's Comfortable to Them.
  • They Play it Safe.
  • They Play with Words.
  • One Dimensional Accusations are thrown.
  • Apparent Goodness is the Law.
  • True Goodness is Discarded.
  • Miracles are Not Valued.
  • Value jobs, positions and family above Justice.
  • Their Primary Concern are institutions.
  • The bottom line is Self.
  • Their Hope is placed upon their own reliability.
  • They are Faithless.
  • No Love is shown.
  • Many hope another person will Act.
  • They are not interested in The King, but the Prince of Safety. The Prince of Status Quo. The Prince of Delegation. The Prince of Call Someone Else. The Prince of What is Reliable.

Our Father, Abba,

We cover in and all our needs with an urgent plea for “Jesus.”

And Your Words to us.

Our Father, Who is in Heaven,
Holy is Your Name
Your Kingdom comes
We want Your will to be done
on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day,
our Daily Living Bread.

Forgive us our sin,
as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation.
Deliver us from evil.

As John saw,
For thine is the Kingdom,
thine is the Power,
thine is the Glory.

Forever and ever.
In Jesus' Name, we pray.
Amen.

Believing Jesus.

Amen

About Me

My photo
Email registry at bottom.! “All Scripture is inspired by God” (2 Timothy 3:16). Men “moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God” (2 Peter 1:21). The Holy Spirit carried men along, moving and guiding them as they wrote in their own words what God wanted them to say. The Bible is unique; comprised of 80 separate books, & written over a period of thousands of years by more than 40 writers with one Author, spanning the centuries, different states of peace & war & different situations in life. The Bible answers the question: of who is God, who is man & what can their relationship can be. Although the Bible was written on perishable material and copied by hand for many centuries, its accuracy is not in doubt, proven by Dead Sea Scrolls and papyrus from 2,000 years. The Bible has survived persecution & criticism to be read with great interest in each generation. The Bible gives witness to the greatness of the Creator. A loving Father concerned for all of his creation. With each verse of the bible witnessing to God is love and the multitude & vastness of His attributes. The Bible was written for you. <><
