A Prayer of Moses, the man of God.

1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place [our refuge]
in all generations.
2 Before the mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

3 You return man to dust
and say, “Return, O children of man [of Adam] !”

are but as yesterday when it is past,
or as a watch in the night.

5 You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream,
like grass that is renewed in the morning:

But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Two days ago, Jesus Christ offered Himself as our sacrifice. Death was abolished and a new Heaven was written of by the apostle John, breathed out by the Holy Spirit ~ in the eyes of our Father God.

When we stand in our sanctuary, Church, praising God, we are - in His eyes - a mere breath away from the events we see posted today.

We are just dust, but Precious in the eyes of God. God is God of the Living. Many generations Living with Him; He is our refuge!

Redemption is different from life. Life has triumphant times & difficulty. Life rarely rests in one angle, but redemption is constant victory. God has paided the price for our redemption. Redemption doesn't guarantee happiness, but redemption requires gratitude. Finding gratitude is one of the best highways to peace, serving others & finding kindness in a tight corner.

Remember 10 lepers were healed, but always pray to be the one who returned to Praise God!

2 In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord;
in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying;

I am so troubled that I cannot speak.
5 I consider the days of old,
the years long ago.
6 I said, “Let me remember my song in the night;

I love our music at Church; we sing the popular Christian radio song in the early service and then the more traditional hymns at our later service. It can be extremely moving and uplifting.

Can you imagine singing this Psalm 77 in Church? It's pretty darkly emotional. And we don't usually worship God by singing to Him we feel He has deserted us. It does, however, sound like what a child says to a parent to get attention.

Dear God, I can't sleep, I am worried - You don't do what I want anymore. I think You don't like me. But You are the power and the glory. Forever. Amen.

Wow, can you really see singing that at Church? Only if we hold up our Vacation Bible School art with it.

A dear lady told me her husband had recovered from a severe heart attack, the doctor said he'd died twice on the table. Her husband was able to tell them what was going on during the electric paddles being used - most unusual because he was very unresponsive. So. He has a near death experience and his wife has insomnia. In light of recent events, there have been a lot of joking about the rapture...... He drowsily woke up at 4 Saturday morning, reached over to pat his wife and - - - her side of the bed was empty......!!!!! .....!!!! He said he'd never gotten out of bed faster to race through the house. He said he had to sit down when he discovered her asleep on the sofa.

Later, when he told his wife, it provided them some much needed comic relief.

Asaph is connecting to the LORD with all of his real feelings. It's much harder to forget all the things that jumble together when we are real with Him.

Jeduthun and Asaph are mentioned in the Scriptures 45 times. David discerned they should be employed for the Lord. Asaph is asked at the beginning of his employment, to be chief of giving praise to God as David arrives with the Ark of the Covenant. Asaph called this Lifting Up in the Psalms.

Asaph writes Psalm 50 - God telling us we can we follow all the rules, God still sees the intentions of the heart. He will accept no bull.

Asaph remembers living through civil war and war. Something many people would lose hope through - Psalm 77,78,79 and 83 - looking at God in times of extreme adversity.

Psalm 75 - Asaph has lived through an amazing time! God is as near as His Name! Asaph's job, from David, to be chief in charge of praising God. This is a celebration! God dwells with them as David becomes King of Israel. Asaph has seen a wonderful work of the Lord.

Asaph and Jeduthun are later called seers. Another word for Prophet. We remember Nathan for bravely telling David about the little lamb slain. But Asaph and Jeduthun should be remembered for not putting forth a beautiful, remote, austere litany - Asaph is telling about raw emotions for the important issues in life - Asaph tells us of relationship. Dad, Abba, I need You. Abba, You've always been there for me. Help me.

Psalm 81 is Asaph's. A Psalm that is both dark and beautifully hopeful.

when he went out over the land of Egypt.
I hear a language I had not known:
6 “I relieved your shoulder of the burden;
your hands were freed from the basket.

I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah
8 Hear, O my people, while I admonish you!
O Israel, if you would but listen to me!
9 There shall be no strange god among you;
you shall not bow down to a foreign god.

Asaph says God expects us to be expectant. In hope. Not a bad place to dwell. Asaph just might have something for us to hang on to for .... 3,000 years.

John 15:12-17 ~ Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends

“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. These things I command you, so that you will love one another.

Last Memorial Day, Scripture for Today Blogspot remembered my oldest son's dear friend, Kory Costers, who gave his life, in Iraq, for freedom. Kory told his parents when he joined the army, freedom isn't free. On the airplane to Iraq, Kory was looking at the first Bible specifically give to him - his mother is a Baptist Youth Minister, Bibles were part of their household - and remarked to the Army recruit sitting next to him, that it was his first Bible. The Corpsman said he'd never owned a Bible, ever. So Kory gave him the Bible and his new friend asked Kory to show him some of the "good stuff."

Kory's middle name, literally, is Christian. So, he wouldn't mind at all if we remind each other the Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends is actually Jesus telling about His New Covenant. And the men who followed Jesus, who hid, received the gift of the Holy Spirit. The next week these men preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the Temple, itself, to multitudes and thousands received Christ's Holy Spirit. These men were willing to lay down their lives to proclaim God's Great Love.

When Jesus died, Claudius was Emperor of Rome. It was Claudius who imprisoned Paul, the first time. In the remote, far away country of Judea, the name of Jesus Christ and His promises and His word, created unease for Claudius. Imagine this could occur in the time there were no mass methods of communication. It is historical fact.

Claudius – Imprisoned Christians. Reigned 25 -54 AD. Emperor during the death and resurrection of Jesus. Imprisoned Paul, for his first imprisonment, house arrest.

Nero – Tortured, burned and vilified Christians. Blamed them for burning Rome . 54- 68 AD

Galba – Put St. Paul and others to death. 69 AD

Otho & Vittelius– only 4 months as Emperor

Vespasian – Sent Titus to destroy Jerusalem in 70 AD, it was the natural end time of Jesus’ life. It is said it is the prophecies Jesus spoke of, His forgiveness was given to the people of His generation. In that destruction, the Temple of the Jews has not been built in 2,000 years. (In 300 A.D, a third temple had the materials gathered, but earthquake, war and fire put an end to that.) Jewish Sacrifice has not been practiced for 2,000 years, it is forsaken. The Jews don’t even know why. God said Jesus was the sacrifice for you.

Titus – See Arch of Titus, still standing, in Rome today. The Temple Tools minus the Ark of the Covenant, is carved in the marble. The profit from the sack of Jerusalem is used for the Coliseum. The Coliseum was used to burn Christians until Constantine naively adopted Christianity thinking Christians would be model citizens. Still a triumph for the 1,100 Bishops, Priests, Christians proclaiming Jesus Christ for 300 years even if they would be burned alive for it.

Domitian – Hauled St. John from Ephesus and exiled him to Patmos. Continued to be fearful of Christians. Conducted one of the fiercest battles against Christians. Under Domitan, the Church split in half. Domitan Heresy - the Church is only for saints. Domitan tortured until Christians surrendered every fragment of the Gospels and New Testament he could find. 81-96. Because of Domitan – we have the word traitor . Part of the Church wanted to forever exile anyone who lied to get out of torture or gave up Scripture. Forgiveness is the business of the Church and Jesus Christ.

Because of Domitan, we only have 15 fragments of the Gospel before 96 AD. But these portions exist and date to 30 AD.

ARE YOU GOING TO TELL ME THESE MEN WERE AFRAID of the scaries? No, the name of Jesus Christ opening His arms to slaves, lepers, women, the poor, the wife of the steward of Herod’s household, Nicodemus of the Sanhedrin Council and Josephus. Jesus converted thousands, leaving Jewish rabbi letters saying it would be the end of Judaism because of the incredible miracles of healing, restoration, life transformation and complete hope. These are letters confirming the Gospels where the Rabbi is extremely unhappy. Josephus, the Israeli General turned traitor, turned Historian says Jesus was the Christ and his brother James formed the later Christian Church until martyred in 62 AD.

Antoninus Pius (c. 86 - 161) Instead of stirring up persecution against the Christians, he extended to them the strong hand of his protection throughout the empire. Rather than give occasion to that oppression which he regarded as inseparable from an emperor's progress through his dominions, he was content to spend all the years of his reign in Rome, or its neighborhood. Under his patronage the science of jurisprudence was cultivated by men of high ability, and a number of humane and equitable enactments were passed in his name. 161 – 180

166 Christian persecution returned - The period was one of ever-increasing calamities. The earthquakes which had alarmed Asia under Antoninus were but the prelude to more serious convulsions. The Tiber rose to an unprecedented height and swept away the public granaries. This was followed by a famine, and that by a pestilence, which spread from Egypt and Ethiopia westward. Everywhere on the frontiers there were murmurs of insurrection or invasion. The year 166 was long known as the "annus calamitosus," and it was in that year that the persecution broke out and that Justin suffered. Marcus Aurelius (c. 121 - 180) The Thundering Legion incident (174)

During the war with the Quadi in 174 there took place the famous incident of the Thundering Legion (Legio Fulminatrix, Fulminea, Fulminata) which has been a cause of frequent controversy between Christian and non-Christian writers. The Roman army was surrounded by enemies with no chance of escape, when a storm burst. The rain poured down in refreshing showers on the Romans, while the enemy were scattered with lightning and hail. The parched and famishing Romans received the saving drops first on their faces and parched throats, and afterwards in their helmets and shields, to refresh their horses. Marcus obtained a glorious victory as a result of this extraordinary event, and his enemies were hopelessly overthrown.

That such an event did really happen is attested both by pagan and Christian writers. The former attribute the occurrence either to magic (Dion Cassius, LXXI, 8-10) or to the prayers of the emperor (Capitolinus, "Vita Marci", XXIV; Themistius, "Orat. XV ad Theod"; Claudian, "De Sext. Cons. Hon.", V, 340 sqq.; "Sibyl. Orac.", ed. Alezandre, XII, 196 sqq. Cf. Bellori, "La Colonne Antonine", and Eckhel, "Doctrina Nummorum", III, 64). Our neighbor's daughter's family is visiting. Her daughter asked about seeing our Merit - he's our Springer Spaniel. When Merit runs through our yard, he leaps and bounds. It is a joyful thing. I hold dear a beautiful memory - opening the door into our new home, Merit being as graceful as a beautiful ballet - soaring thru the rooms to be filled. It is his spirit soaring.

Don't we all have a memory of being a soaring spirit - on a boat, a horse, a new home and the joy of open possibilities is in front of us. Each day, we have that just by putting our hands.

Here I am, Father God. Send me! Let me use this day, each day You give me, to build for Your glory. Thank You for Memorial Day - the men and the women who gave their lives for us and enter into Your Kingdom. In Jesus' name. Amen.

And I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, a man with a measuring line in his hand! 2 Then I said, “Where are you going?” And he said to me, “To measure Jerusalem, to see what is its width and what is its length.” 3 And behold, the angel who talked with me came forward, and another angel came forward to meet him 4 and said to him, “Run, say to that young man, ‘Jerusalem shall be inhabited as villages without walls, because of the multitude of people and livestock in it. 5 And I will be to her a wall of fire all around, declares the Lord, and I will be the glory in her midst.’”

6 Up! Up! Flee from the land of the north, declares the Lord. For I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heavens, declares the Lord. 7 Up! Escape to Zion, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon. 8 For thus said the Lord of hosts, after his glory sent me to the nations who plundered you, for he who touches you touches the apple of his eye: 9 “Behold, I will shake my hand over them, and they shall become plunder for those who served them. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent me. 10 Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion, for behold, I come and I will dwell in your midst, declares the Lord. 11 And many nations shall join themselves to the Lord in that day, and shall be my people. 1 God shall arise, his enemies shall be scattered;
and those who hate him shall flee before him!
2 As smoke is driven away, so you shall drive them away;
as wax melts before fire,
so the wicked shall perish before God!
3 But the righteous shall be glad;
they shall exult before God;
they shall be jubilant with joy!

4 Sing to God, sing praises to his name;
lift up a song to him who rides through the deserts;
his name is the Lord;
exult before him!
5 Father of the fatherless and protector of widows
is God in his holy habitation.
6 God settles the solitary in a home;

but the rebellious dwell in a parched land.

Deuteronomy 10:14,15

To the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it. Yet the LORD set his affection on your forefathers and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants, above all the nations, as it is today.

The great wide path isn’t the path of the Lord. The Lord doesn’t ask us blend in with the crowd. He asks us to look for Him, to seek Him and to find Him. The Lord our God and Father asks for a personal relationship like Zacchaeus. Zacchaeus went out of his way to find Jesus and found Jesus. Jesus, teaching us about our Father, welcomed Zacchaeus with love and interest. Zacchaeus was jubilant with joy.

Luke 19:1-6

1-5 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but being a short man he could not, because of the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.

When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, "Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today." So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.

Also remember an important subject on family and fathers. One of Jesus' last words was to adopt John into His family by giving John His Mother. Then as Mary Magdalene found Jesus at the empty tomb, Jesus tells Mary, "Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'" We Are Adopted into Jesus' Family.

Does God understand the challenges of not having an earthly father? Yes. God does. I know I do, my father left us when I was a teenager. It is heart wrenching to loose your dad.


Exodus 22:22
You shall not mistreat any widow or fatherless child.

Job 24:3
They drive away the donkey of the fatherless; they take the widow’s ox for a pledge.

The Scriptures are written for you, here is what God says:

Job 29:11
When the ear heard, it called me blessed, and when the eye saw, it approved, because I delivered the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to help him.
