From Mt. Eremos looking out over the Sea of Galilee, The Mount of Beatitudes
Mark 3:7-19
Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and a great crowd followed, from Galilee and Judea 8 and Jerusalem and Idumea and from beyond the Jordan and from around Tyre and Sidon. When the great crowd heard all that he was doing, they came to him. 9 And he told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, lest they crush him, 10 for he had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed around him to touch him. 11 And whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.” 12 And he strictly ordered them not to make him known.
13 And he went up on the mountain and called to him those whom he desired, and they came to him. 14 And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach 15 and have authority to cast out demons. 16 He appointed the twelve: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter); 17 James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James (to whom he gave the name Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder); 18 Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot, 19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
The Gospels, from every one contributing to the telling and writing of Jesus, tell a miracle we often overlook. Jesus asked men He chose to leave their lives - follow Him - and they did.
The reactions to Jesus were profound.
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
Those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become Children of God.
From His fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.
“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"
“I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on Him. I myself did not know Him"
I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.
“We have found the Messiah”
“Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”
All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips.
“Truly I tell you,” he continued, “no prophet is accepted in his hometown."
All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. They got up, drove Him out of the town, and took Him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw Him off the cliff. But He walked right through the crowd and went on His Way.
“What words these are! With authority and power He gives orders"
At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them.
He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.
Matthew 27:54
When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, "Surely he was the Son of God!"
Genesis 22:18
And in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.
