John 14
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
8 Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.
12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21 Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” 22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me.
25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. 28 You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. 29 And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe. 30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no claim on me, 31 but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here.
We all have a picture in our minds of Jesus near us. Jesus walking. Jesus hands on someone. Jesus listening.
When we talk about John 14, you find more verses of the Scriptures people consider their soul is warmed and have favorite verses. This Chapter is filled to the brim of verses we hold on to. This is so important, so incredible - we know Jesus had to be sitting, as usual, to teach His Disciples.
4 Chapters of John - 14, 15, 16 and 17 and Jesus is sending His Disciples to the ends of the earth and leaving this earth to be with His Father. His Ministry on earth is ending.
Consider John 9
51 When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. 52 And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make preparations for him. 53 But the people did not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem.
The Samaritans did not want Jesus to be lost and his ministry to end.
Thomas has said he will die with Jesus about the time Lazarus was raised. The Disciples are not unaware of the dangers Jesus is facing. He has avoided being arrested by the Temple police before because the Temple police felt it would endanger themselves to arrest Jesus.
John 7:45
Finally the temple guards went back to the chief priests and the Pharisees, who asked them, "Why didn't you bring him in?"
John 12
16 His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. 17 The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. 18 The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign.
19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing.
Look, the world has gone after him.”
So how long has this knowledge been there of Jesus?
A good, long time!
Luke 1
65 All the neighbors were filled with awe, and throughout the hill country of Judea people were talking about all these things. 66 Everyone who heard this wondered about it, asking, “What then is this child going to be?” For the Lord’s hand was with him.
The Road to Damascus tells us all of Israel knows Jesus.
John 12:19 Tells us The world has gone after Him
Now, was this an- over- emphasis- mega- statement? "No."
John 12
20 Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the feast. 21 They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and requested of him, “Sir, we want to see Jesus.” 22 Philip relayed this appeal to Andrew, and both of them went and told Jesus.
Today, we believe this was Greeks from Crete who wanted to save worthy Jesus. Later, Crete invites Titus to be with them after the Resurrection.
Really are they being exaggerating? No.
Mark 1
32 That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. 33 The whole town gathered at the door, 34 and Jesus healed many who had various diseases.
Jesus has been part of the Scriptures since God said," Let there be Light." And as He sits down to discuss how they will adapt to something they can't want to know or comprehend, Jesus says, "Let not your hearts be troubled."
Jesus had not left us, He lives in us when we ask Him to.
Jesus and His Father are still working.
Abba,
You bless us every day with this day and Your Willing Blessings.
We have prayed for 42 year old Elliott not to have cancer. Not to have Multiple Myeloma. Elliott started out with a broken back and his cancer number was 7 at Wake Forest. Today Elliott's number is Zero, during chemotherapy, no detectable cancer. All of this has happened since this summer began. We offer You Great Thanks for Your Healing Word. We will continue to Rejoice and ask Your Blessings on Elliott's wife Harby and their three young children. Elliott would like to have his own stem cell bone marrow transplant. We ask Your Steadfast Love Blessings.
Elliott's wife writes:
We have been so encouraged lately by Elliott’s Myeloma numbers- in a healthy body they are 0. Elliott started above a 7. His last two blood panels have his myeloma numbers undetectable!
The Chemo is WORKING!
It’s doing it’s job and his body is doing exactly what it needs to in order to move towards transplant!!!
Elliott is continuing Chemo every Friday through December. He is continuing to improve daily and his ‘biggest’ complaint is soreness in his back if he’s had a busy day.
Father God, We offer You thanks. Thank You. You are still working. You do so much more for us than we ask or imagine.
You have given us Jesus. We Thank You. Amen.
