John 1:1-14,17,29-35
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all people. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is the one I meant when I said, 'A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' 31 I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel."
32 Then John gave this testimony: "I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. 33 And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, 'The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.' 34 I have seen and I testify that this is God's Chosen One."
35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, "Look, the Lamb of God!"
The question cried out in the last seven days to the Conservative Network News has been, "Where is God." As we are doing our heart-searching during Lent, we have to remember Jesus said this to Father God on the cross. The Nature of God tells us to Believe Him. Jesus says the work of mankind is to believe God.God believes having walked through life as Grace upon Grace, what is good for the Children of God, is good for Jesus Christ as the Trinity. God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit are One. To say this bluntly: What is good for the Goose, is good for the gander.
Abba, Our Abba, Our Father,
The Wind of Life blows where it will.
Let all nations and all of Your Beloved Children find more Heaven
When God tells us something, we are supposed to stay with the Way, Truth and Life of His Living Word.
God upholds the Universe with the Power of His Word.
When we think of the Transfiguration, what's the purpose?
We know the Transfiguration, and that is the main purpose. The feeding of God's Children with His wonders. And this wonder nourishes us to do what Jesus says is our purpose in life, to do the 'work' of believing the One He has sent. Two reasons for the Transfiguration. One of the top reasons would be, Jesus has seen Heaven on earth - Again. Not letting too many years go by. Jesus is before Abraham. God of the Living, seeing Moses and Elijah. Jesus has been given a miracle, seeing with His eyes, a reminder, And God says the blessing of not being just a single strand, the blessing of James, John and Peter. Four reasons for God to give the Transfiguration.
John will know all his life, having seen Heaven on earth. James, John's brother, will pass to Heaven. John will know he and James saw Heaven together.
For the Disciples walking along, what can we say of their eyewitness? Did they say, "Oh, we see the Widow of Nain and her son already." Or did they say, "Oh, we saw Jesus walk on water a couple of times." We know Mark wrote the Gospel, working beside Peter. And these Chapters were the Hit Parade of The New Covenant in the middle of the first century. How does the Transfiguration line up, with what these men have witnessed surrounding Jesus.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning.
Through Him all things were made;
without Him nothing was made that has been made.
In Him was life, and that life was the light of all people.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Is the Transfiguration important:
Matthew 17:1-8, Mark 9:1-7, Luke 9:28-36, and 2 Peter 1:16-18
Matthew has 28 Chapters, Mark has 16 Chapters, Luke 24 Chapters, Peter wrote 8 Chapters in His 2 Books of Peter.
We could say this doesn't rank very highly. And this would be incorrect. John 1 is the Transfiguration upon Jesus asking Peter, John and James to remain silent. John found the Transfiguration the most astonishing aspect of walking with Jesus for 3 Years. John had
no question, Jesus Christ is the Messiah of God. The Fulfillment of All of God's Promises.
Peter wrote only 8 chapters and recorded few of Jesus' miracles. Peter was more moved by Salvation. Heaven at hand. Where we are Promised. Peter is profoundly interesting in living a better life as Salvation has happened. Peter is making a way, truth and Life in the people of Jesus Christ.
And the Transfiguration is something Peter is going to discuss in his eight chapters. Matthew and Luke, the physician, didn't attend, but Matthew knows something valid and important. Mark tells us the First Century knew this to be of tremendous significance.
Jesus receives the Transfiguration as a Gift from His Father. Coming from the heights of Mt. Tabor, Jesus heals a son. The well and healthy Son attends the healing of a Father and Son.
How is the Goose and Gander portion?
We would assume Abba, Father of us All, would place the Transfiguration near Good Friday and Easter. Even if this is Lent, something for Jesus to hold on to. Instead, The Transfiguration is far from Jesus walking His last 40 days. Abba, our Father, expects Jesus to hold firm to His Wonders and Word.
Hold fast. Stand Firm.
Psalms 119:89
Your word, LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.
Psalms 18:2
The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Hebrews 6:19
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.
It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain
Deuteronomy 31:6
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them,
for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."
1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord,
because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Galatians 5:1
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.
Stand firm, then,
and do not let yourselves be burdened
again by a yoke of slavery.
Acts 14:22
Strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. "We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God," they said
Psalms 19:14
May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer
2 Thessalonians 1:4
Therefore, among God's churches we boast about your perseverance
and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.
Given the Strength of the Work of God in Transfiguration, you'd assume this Strengthening Event would so very close to Jesus and His last 40 days before Good Friday.
And instead, Abba, has given Jesus a window on the Kingdom of God and has Jesus travel His ministry and rely, instead, on faith. Not moving. Steadfast. Holding on to faith of the Way, Truth and Life.
God has given His Son an exercise of faith. And Jesus calls our work to be faithful. Travel down from the Hill Top moments of Revelation and warmth. Come down and assist the father with a lifelong problem with his son. Heal, when those He has called are struggling too. And in this moment, off the mountain top, the father cries out to Jesus to help with faith.
44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
46 Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?”
Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!”
48 Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?”
Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
49 Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” 5
0 Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.”
51 And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
