Romans 16 ~ who is approved in Christ

Romans 16

I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a servant of the church at Cenchreae, 2 that you may welcome her in the Lord in a way worthy of the saints, and help her in whatever she may need from you, for she has been a patron of many and of myself as well.

3 Greet Prisca and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus, 4 who risked their necks for my life, to whom not only I give thanks but all the churches of the Gentiles give thanks as well.

5 Greet also the church in their house.

Greet my beloved Epaenetus, who was the first convert to Christ in Asia.

6 Greet Mary, who has worked hard for you.

7 Greet Andronicus and Junia, my kinsmen and my fellow prisoners. They are well known to the apostles, and they were in Christ before me.

8 Greet Ampliatus, my beloved in the Lord.

9 Greet Urbanus, our fellow worker in Christ, and my beloved Stachys.

10 Greet Apelles, who is approved in Christ. Greet those who belong to the family of Aristobulus.

11 Greet my kinsman Herodion. Greet those in the Lord who belong to the family of Narcissus.

12 Greet those workers in the Lord, Tryphaena and Tryphosa. Greet the beloved Persis, who has worked hard in the Lord.

13 Greet Rufus, chosen in the Lord; also his mother, who has been a mother to me as well. (Simon of Cyrene who carried the cross?)

14 Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas, and the brothers who are with them.

15 Greet Philologus, Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints who are with them.

16 Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you.

17 I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. 18 For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive. 19 For your obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, but I want you to be wise as to what is good and innocent as to what is evil. 20 The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

21 Timothy, my fellow worker, greets you; so do Lucius and Jason and Sosipater, my kinsmen.

22 I Tertius, who wrote this letter, greet you in the Lord.

23 Gaius, who is host to me and to the whole church, greets you. Erastus, the city treasurer, and our brother Quartus, greet you.

25 Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages 26 but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith— 27 to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen.

Have you stopped lately to think about Christianity from the 1970s and today?

A gentle time.
People made a lot of handcrafts. Housing was pretty affordable - Congress had not yet passed legislation that two incomes could apply for a house - then housing sky-rocketed. Our Dallas home increased in value by doubling. This is forty years after the idea of mortgages came to being in the world - before this people paid cash for affordable homes they owned for generations. 1930s - Started out innocently enough - oh no - sheer horrors a 2% note...

Ok, back to the 1970s, it was a gentle time. The Vietnam War was ending - people held love ins and sat holding hands. Mostly the USA was married. TV was gentle. Laugh tracks were loud.

Christianity? That's nice. We all should love the Lord. Not get too pushy with that - all you need to do to understand where that person stood was the perfectly acceptable, "What denomination are you?" Then mostly all your questions were answered because people were generally going to throw out how many times they went.

There were definite perks to this - if you watch the movies from the 1950 Academy Award Winners - you are seeing some of the finest movies - and send someone to view those movies - Like "Marty" and "Mrs. Miniver" "Roman Holiday" - they return seriously impressed with good cinema.

Yes, I'm staying in this era - by saying - the entertainment had "topics" but usually, we were warned of the consequences of being not so nice. TV was not so entertaining us that the agenda needed babysitting.

And now we have none of the peace and quiet PTA meetings of post era - gum chewing, talking, homework loss of the past eras. We face far more significant situations now.

HOWEVER, we are not going to do the here comes a flock of waaa waaas.
Just as Roman influenced housing has swept in and in - we see we have a parallel to the Roman Empire again.

And how are we handling this new world? The Acts of the Apostles really had people seeing love given. Two cloaks? No, we are not talking about donating to someone through The Salvation Army. We are talking about a cloak is given to someone in need that we know their name and their father drinks. Or the heat isn't afforded. The World changed for believing Christians offering Love and Prayer and not judgments. People who put themselves out to help others.

All of Life is a Balance God tells Joshua
Weep with those who Weep, Rejoice with those who Rejoice.

But in as much as is it up to you get along with others. I.E. Don't lead the bandwagon on why the world is sooo awful.

What do we do with this at  Church ?

For one thing - we have people - Who have made themselves Encouragers = Barnabas. They go forth to smile, to hug and to ENCOURAGE. Just like this very passage. Wayne, Kirk, Cindy, Dee and the multitude of people. Hallways are as friendly as Romans 16.

This is the Exact Look Cindy Beaumont is going to wear when she Goes Home, Years from Now, To her HOME with Jesus! If you see Cindy weep during the Service - that's the Holy Spirit - Touching her Heart.

In this Journey, we start our new Christian Journey Starry Eyed.

Eventually, someone is going to spill glue on you. Or something very sticky.
The Church is like the Scriptures, it's messy. And people change and move. They go to Antioch (Ahhh Antioch) and find renewal. Never enter Church as if it's Heaven, enter Church as fellows on a ship. So many of the old Churches are built to look like ships like Notre Dame. The flying buttress supporting the Nave of the Ship or Church. Fellowship. Filled with Paul and Peter have comments and life instruction.

So, how is Church reacting to the World at Large?

Well. Challenged, Concerned, Prayerful and Hopeful. Encouraging.

Keys to a Useful Life
By Ward Williams

· Illustration: Thomas Huxley said, “A feeling of uselessness is the severest shock that a human system can endure.”

· The secret to a happy life is not in keeping busy, but in being useful.

· The Good Samaritan is a good representation of what it means to be a useful, caring person.

· Big Idea: The ultimate standard of a useful life is not what you think and expect of yourself as much as what you are willing to do for those around you.

Transition: Applying this story to our lives requires concentration on three keys to a useful life.

Avoid the danger of generalities.

· Christianity is not a philosophy; its approach to life is concrete.

· The Gospel calls us to test our belief by acting upon it.

- Illustration: A cemetery headstone in England reads, “Here lies Thomas Cobb, who mended shoes in this village for 40 years to the glory of God.”

· Neighborliness is not a generality; it is serving the needs of individuals.

Be aware of what is important.

· Jesus implied that all the religious rituals in the world were not as important as the fellow who lay bleeding beside the road.

· Jesus’ choices were always made in terms of people and their needs.

· The Samaritan did not act out of an expectation for reward or thanks. The Good Samaritan was motivated by a good conscience, a sense of satisfaction, and a desire to be able to say he had led a useful life.

Help others help themselves.

· The Samaritan’s intentions were to get the wounded man on his feet, not to make him dependent upon charity.

· Illustration: Williams works with a nonprofit organization that finances cottage industries in Venezuela to teach skills leading to financial independence.

Conclusion

· Jesus lived the model of usefulness.

- Philippians 2:7;
Made Himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.

- Acts 10:38
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

· A useful life is not defined by knowing who our neighbors are, but in demonstrating neighborliness. An Example of this is Sharon. No program at Church asked her to have an Open House for her quiet street, but she did and the neighbors were a little stunned. And Grateful.

And Lorraine and Henry who brought "Alpha"  to their neighborhood and 6 peoples showed up. They were very disappointed. Three people only remained. And two learned Jesus is their Savior.  In the movie "It's A Wonderful Life" - Henry and Lorraine get to ring the bell - they earned their wings.

He said,
“The one who showed him mercy.”
And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”

Luke 10:37

Abba, Father God,

Help, us Father God to prepare the way to Your Plan of a Hope and Future
You have given us.

Help our talents and gifts, making us the unique people we are,
further the High Path for Jesus Christ the Lord.

We will weep with those in the valley and encourage them toward better seasons.

We put aside barriers.
And Believe in God revealing real Joy of Jesus proclaiming
Jesus is Love, Joy, Truth, Comfort, Peace.

To know Jesus is to know Peace.
Where reality is acknowledged and not glossed over
- the good fight is fought to real Truth.

Where Joy and Love call for Fruitfulness and Kindness blesses those we love,
to open all eyes to see the Salvation.

Father God is Love and Encouragement

God wants us to seek Him First
Pray for those we Love to seek Him first
and God wants to save the world in Jesus Christ.

Jesus bless Elliott and Harby. Their family.
Jesus speak the Word of Healing for Elliott
for his peace and comfort today.

Such A Great Salvation, We Shall Not Overlook!
Jesus Has Won Us the Greatest Victory
and
We Blaze the Light of Jesus Christ Forth!

Lord Jesus
Only In Your Highest Name.
AMEN!

Psalm 105:1-9 ~ Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His presence continually!

Psalm 105:1-9

Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon His Name;
make known His deeds among the peoples!

2 Sing to Him, sing praises to Him;
tell of all His wondrous works!
3 Glory in His Holy Name

Let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!
4 Seek the Lord and his strength;
seek His presence continually!

5 Remember the wondrous works that He has done,
His miracles and the judgments He uttered,
6 O offspring of Abraham, His servant,
children of Jacob, His chosen ones!

7 He is the Lord our God;
His judgments are in all the earth.
8 He remembers His Covenant forever,
the Word that He commanded, for a thousand generations,
9 the covenant that He made with Abraham,
His sworn promise to Isaac

Blessings.

The covenant He made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Abraham believed and he gave his wife to Abimelech. ~ Odd
He hearkened unto Sarah's voice and Ishmael was born to be discarded by Abraham. ~  Odd

Abraham allowed a separation to occur with his nephew Lot over supplies. ~ Odd

And Abraham contended with the LORD over Lot to let the Lord save Lot. Abraham believed the Lord about the promised land, and he bought the area for a well. He bought the area he buried Sarah in. He lived in a tent in the promised land under huge oak trees. ~ Sounds more like what God would like.

Isaac believed. He loved his wife and understood Rebekah. She was the one who would not only give water to a stranger, but also the stranger's camel as well. ~ We see that as someone in Scripture.

And she did not care for (Genesis 27:46) "The Hittite women. If Jacob marries one of the Hittite women like these, one of the women of the land, what good will my life be to me? Isaac had two sons who fought one another in serious matters. And a wife willing to contend against him. Isaac was blind. ~ Not exactly a 1950s TV show.

Jacob witnessed the belief running strongly in his family. He believed so strongly he was willing to show Esau the truth Esau's contempt for his own despised birthright. Later tricking a blessing from his father. And having to run away from his dying father and mother for over 10 years. Dealing with Laban for his own deceptions.

Blessings.

Abraham believed God and His promises and traveled far from home to the land God promised him. He believed God. Abraham believed! He only wavered because human beings do not believe themselves worthy, that HE would do as HE promises. We cannot comprehend the depth, the width, the deepness of His Steadfast Love.

Our challenge today is to believe we are Blessed

God's blessings, and look for those promises each day.
Asking Him what can I do for you in my belief.
What acts of Love would You want, Father God.

And remember as we seek to please Father God
Creator of All Things,
Our Father God is pleased with us.
God upholds the Universe in His Word.

Genesis 12:3
I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.

Abraham believed and sent for a wife for Isaac. His sought after and blessed wife comforted Isaac upon the death of his mother, Sarah.

Isaac knew Genesis 25:11
After the death of Abraham, God blessed Isaac his son.

Isaac believed he inherited the blessing, as he perceived his end he blessed with this blessing, Genesis 27:29
May those who curse you be cursed
and those who bless you be blessed.

The belief was held so strongly:

Exodus 13:19
Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for Joseph had made the sons of Israel solemnly swear, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones with you from here.”

How amazing are His works. Israel exists today.

He is the Lord our God;
his judgments are in all the earth.
He remembers his covenant forever

Romans 8:28
We know that all things work together
for the good of those who love God
those whom He has called
according to His plan

Romans 5:3-4
Not only that, but we glory in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces a path to exult and have endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope
 perseverance, character; and character, hope

Matthew 10:29
Not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father's care.

Abba, Father God,

We sometimes are upset, sometimes are angry, confused why we have
difficulties and troubles.

You tell us in Jesus to ask for more Heaven on earth.
To know Heaven has Your Good Will done.
This is a Good Prayer.

We ask these present difficulties will be solved speedily in
Your Glory. In the Highest Name of Jesus Christ.

Help us to seek You first
and we have Prayed well to have all our cares filled in Jesus.
Jesus tells us we have fallen below His Glory in our flaws and sin.
Jesus says He wants to save the world. He has given us a new Heaven and a new earth.

Cast these cares, under Your Feet, far from us.
Cast these cares far from our Nation.
Under Your Feet, Cast these cares from Your Good Creation.

Bless those we Love to have Father God first.

Help us in Seeking You First
to
Live wisely
with optimism and hope in Your Glory.

Bless Elliott with all Your Willing Healing.

We put our Hopes in You
Lord Jesus Christ.

Seek God First. Love ourselves. Love others.
Love One Another.

We pray with Hope and Expectation for Texas and all of us
to have better weather and anticipate Mercy given.

Thank You, Jesus for covering us with Love and Mercy. Amen.

John 1:29-45 ~ The Spirit remained on Jesus

>

John 1:29-45

29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

32 And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. 33 I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”

35 The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, 36 and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” 37 The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.

38 Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?”

And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?”

Luke 1:78-79

"Because of the tender mercy of our God,
whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high
79 to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

39 He said to them, “Come and you will see.”

So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.

40 One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon and said to him,
“We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). 42 He brought him to Jesus.

Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas” (which means Peter).

43 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee.

He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.”

44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

We see in John's Gospel Chapter One, right from the very beginning - Jesus is called by Andrew "Messiah." This is an amazing claim. Andrew has found John the Baptist to be Spiritually amazing and has followed John the Baptist as a Prophet of the Most High God.

John 1

48 Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?”

Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”

49 Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”

50 Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” 51 And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”

1 Peter 1:13
Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.

Texas rarely has a perfect snow.  Daniel explains the Heavenly Host are arranged in orderly fashion and not only people have a Guardian Angel, Jesus discusses, but places have orders and Heavenly Host for places. Daniel asks God in prayer to rightly order the Heavenly Host to prosper His Children, fallen and sorrowful.

So, we'd have to say the Heavenly Host rarely are instructed for Texas to have perfect snows.

We start out well.

And really enjoy the sight of pristine beauty.

But almost inevitably, we end up with ice, that could cause years of damage

Even my puppies are doing this on our patio.

Even when everything looks Ok. Due to the fluctuation of temperature

This year, instead, we had a Blessing in the middle of the disastrous weather.
We had a day of increased temperatures to about 37' and the whole day of rain
washed away ice on the trees.
Washed away piles of snow on the roof, avoiding leaks.

Finding our Blessings.
Praying when the water is stirred we can pray the end of the bad weather much faster,
with the Favor of Jesus, Highest Name of God. Amen

Abba, Father God,

When Jesus and His chosen Disciples set out to tell us about the Journey of Faith,
they just wandered about amazed and scared.

And Jesus told us several times about emotions. Jesus said we could have anger and that's  fine, just don't sin. Jesus encouraged us to not have fears.
Jesus continued to work with His chosen even when they had fear.

Jesus told us we are not responsible for words and actions of others.
Jesus told us we are responsible for the words and deeds we put forth.

Father God, an interesting example of rubber and glue.

Jesus is our Lord God and we bless You Father,
You meet, fill and give to all of us, Your Favor.

Jesus as Savior of all the World. Jesus bless us with forgiveness of our personal sins and flaws. Thank You for Your mercy to me and to the ones I love and we cover the people
You have given us.

Bless Elliott with all Your Healing and Willing Word.

And this follows along perfectly with the teaching of Jesus.
Seek God First. Love ourselves. Love others.
Love One Another.

We pray with Hope and Expectation for Texas and all of us
to have better weather and anticipate Mercy given.

Thank You, Jesus for covering us with Love and Mercy. Amen.

Ash Wednesday is not washed away.
Easter will arrive.

Prayer Request for Elliott, Father of 3, age 44

Prayer requests-

Abba, Father God,

Praise that Elliott was able to get his first of three injections of his CarT cells!
He had no problems with the procedure.

The spots they treated with radiation are feeling so much better! We are so thankful!
Elliott does still have side effects from the radiation, though. He has irritation and burns in his esophagus that make it hard to swallow, and it is also causing reflux.

We Pray that the pain in his side and lower back would dissipate with the CarT treatment.
Jesus with us, Pray for a restful nights sleep.
We ask and Pray as we move forward with decisions about his care after this trial in Maryland.

Harby

And we are praying for Harby and their family.
Jesus Christ Bless and Heal with Your Willing Word.
Amen.

Elliott has a GoFundMe to help raise support:

About Me

My photo
Email registry at bottom.! “All Scripture is inspired by God” (2 Timothy 3:16). Men “moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God” (2 Peter 1:21). The Holy Spirit carried men along, moving and guiding them as they wrote in their own words what God wanted them to say. The Bible is unique; comprised of 80 separate books, & written over a period of thousands of years by more than 40 writers with one Author, spanning the centuries, different states of peace & war & different situations in life. The Bible answers the question: of who is God, who is man & what can their relationship can be. Although the Bible was written on perishable material and copied by hand for many centuries, its accuracy is not in doubt, proven by Dead Sea Scrolls and papyrus from 2,000 years. The Bible has survived persecution & criticism to be read with great interest in each generation. The Bible gives witness to the greatness of the Creator. A loving Father concerned for all of his creation. With each verse of the bible witnessing to God is love and the multitude & vastness of His attributes. The Bible was written for you. <><
