Luke 10:25-42 ~ put Him to the test

Luke 10:25-42

25 And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

26 He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?”

27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

28 And He said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.”

29 But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

30 Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.

33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two denarii [denarius was a day's wage for a laborer] and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’

36 Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?”

37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.”

And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”

38 Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching.

40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.”

41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary.

Mary has chosen the good portion,

which will not be taken away from her.”

People think a lot about what they need and what defines them. Here we have 3 paragraphs on growth/love, need and ease. It reminds me of two things - a movie - the 1942 movie Mrs. Miniver. Nominated for 12 Academy Awards and winning 6. Mrs Miniver won another award in 2006, The American Film Institute's list celebrating the most inspirational films of all time. And in 2009, National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being “culturally, historically or aesthetically” significant and will be preserved for all time.

Mrs. Miniver is about the small concerns we have in times of ease and the need for greater care, the grace we rise to, in times of war. I had my own Mrs. Miniver moment about 10 years ago, we moved into our new home and it was time to clean the carpets. I used a friend's Church friend, it was more expensive than I'd ever even considered paying, but my friend assured me of her own experience with the company, high quality, unique cleaning process and Christian need for a new business.

When the equipment and men showed up, the vacuum cleaner looked like a 1950's model and the cleaning machine - not much better. I began to feel like hyperventilating over the high cost. I asked numerous questions and began to irritate the senior tech.

The junior tech came back down the stairs. I suddenly realized this was one of the Lost Boys of Sudan we had in our area. He realized I had jerked to attention. He was as black as coal and looked like he was 7 feet tall. This regal and very black youth looked at me with a lot of compassion.

He said, "Madam, be at peace - all will be well."

I realized how much he had seen and lived with. How small my concerns were. I replied, "I am sure it will be."

My small concerns had irritated the senior tech, just having another day on the job. I learned a lesson I have never forgotten from the compassion and well-chosen words of a man who has seen a lot in his few years, a lost but found young man barely out of his teens from Sudan.

An article in our local paper said the Lost Boys had all returned, one by one, to to Sudan to help their fellow man. Our local Churches had provided them with houses of volunteers to live with, help to pay for college and bicycles (we live in an area where this worked and was cost-effective).

These men (about 50 men and 2 women) had done well in school, had attitudes of gratitude, and returned to their homeland to promote loving their neighbor as themselves. These young men left the people they lived with very impressed with their Christian faith and with their desire to better their part of the world.

Father God,

We do not hear the continuation of the Samaritan neighbor who was treated with such kindness.

Individually we do not know what happened to the Sudanese young man.
As a whole, they returned to help Sudan.

You returned again to Mary and Martha, when Lazarus had died, saying how You love them. Martha was treated with such compassion by Jesus, in her petty need, she was the one who went out to greet Jesus later.

Thank You, Father, for Your compassion even to those at ease.

Help us to remember the compassion of the Lost Boys when we feel the root of bitterness creep into our souls where You would have us have an attitude of gratitude.

Abba, Father

Jesus, help us not seek revenge or grudge when we are wronged.

Let us be grateful for Grace in our own lives.
And let Your living water flow
and
 nourish our compassion to others.

Let us be able to give, knowing it is more blessed to give.

Let our contemplations of growth and love not be circular,
but bless our souls to arrive at wisdom and steadfast love.

Father, Dwell in us.
Dwell in those we Love.
Help us to seek You first.
In Jesus Christ, we will finish well.

Remember us and Your Good Creation
in Your Mercy and Love.

May the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be always pleasing to You, Abba.

In the Highest Name of Jesus Christ.
Amen.

More Heaven upon earth.
Grow the Kingdom
with
Love.

We pray for rain again
for Texas! You provide for us!
Amen in Jesus.

John 3:16 ~ For God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life

John 3:16

For God loved the world so much
that He gave His one and only Son,
so that everyone who believes in Him
will not perish
but have eternal life.

Romans 10:9

If thou shalt confess with thy mouth Jesus as Lord,
and
shalt believe in thy heart that God raised him from the dead, t
hou shalt be saved.

Joel 2:32

And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the LORD Will be delivered;
For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem There will be those who escape,

As the LORD has said, Even among the survivors whom the LORD calls.

Genesis 1:3

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

Theologically, this sounds as if everyone everywhere will go to Heaven. We don't know how many measures, Father of All, will go to save everyone, even after death has occurred. Yet, there is a stop somewhere. The Book of Revelations tells us not all are saved. Why would that be when the amazing Promises of God exist?

Luke 18:7-8

7 And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them?
8 I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily.

Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?

Not all will call on the Highest Name of Jesus. This would require faith. Faith to put each day in His Hands and Believe His Mercy.

The astonishing Words of Jesus Christ regarding Himself.

Isaiah 45:23

As I live, says the Lord,
every knee shall bow to me,
and every tongue shall confess to God.

Colossians 3:24

It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

1 Kings 18:20-21 ~ follow Him †

1 Kings 18:20-21

20 So Ahab sent to all the people of Israel and gathered the prophets together at Mount Carmel. 21 And Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long will you go limping between two different opinions?

If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.”

And the people did not answer
him a word.

We know these chapters with great familiarity. This is Good New, the familiarity of God's Word. Let's see this again with new perspective. The passage from 1 Kings 18 is about fire. Fire and water. Luke 3, a baptism of fire. Fire from, "Let there be Light." Moses is traveling up the hill to find the unconsumed bush on Fire.  Water, Jesus' willingness for baptism with the presence of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2, the Disciples trust God, the Father, not to consume them with flames of fire in the Holy Spirit.

Hebrews 12

Later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. 12Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, 13and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed.

14 Strive for peace with everyone, and for
the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.

Yes, this is these are the Chapters Ahab sees 450 prophets killed and Elijah hears the voice of God in calm and peace. No, Elijah wasn't fired. No pun intended, instead we know from Scriptures Horses arrive from Heaven to take Elijah to Heaven.

These Scriptures are hallmarked as important and imperative to know. We are very familiar with these Living Verses.

Recently discovered in Israel:
“Jerub-baal” is the nickname given to Gideon in Judges 6:31–32 after Gideon destroyed an altar to the pagan god Baal. It means “Let Baal contend with him.” It’s also the name found written on a pottery jug fragment excavated at Khirbat er-Ra'i, a site near Tel Lachish in southern Israel. One of Israel's best finds recently.

There is violence in life and in Scripture. Samuel knew violence, Eli, David as well. Israel was a small nation in the grips of vast Empire changes surrounding the Children of Israel.   In Pandemic Recovery, we hear so much more about crime.  Juarez, Mexico, had, pre-pandemic, about 6,000 murders a month. Usually, the highest murder cities in the USA have about 600 A Year.  There is violence in the world. 100,000 immigrants are missing, unmarked bodies are buried; The Border is in chaos.

More and more knife violence  in Japan and 70% up in Europe. Same everywhere.

No medical attention for people starving and walking for weeks.  No assistance to learn the educational opportunities for children.

We find Peter failed the Lord. Thomas as well. John alone stood with Jesus on Good Friday. The Scriptures aren't like a guillotine, painting villainy and standing on personal judgment. This one or that is doomed. Instead: These are the Prodigal Son Years.

Even Ahab will be given A Prodigal Son warming His Father's Heart opportunity.

We have this opportunity as well. All of us. The Lord God wants to save the world in Jesus Christ.

Museum Description: Kurkh Stela
British Museum

Scripture: 2 Kings 3:1

King Ahab is mentioned.

Ahab is one of a number of Israelite kings mentioned in Assyrian records.

In his case, the record is not mentioned in the Bible. A Stele of the Assyrian King Shalmaneser III, found in 1861 at Kurkh on the Tigris river in southeastern Turkey.

The relief carving of Shalmaneser and an inscription recording the principal events of his first six military campaigns. In his sixth year, 853 BC, he describes a campaign to the west encountering a coalition of 12 states, including Israel. Shalmaneser engaged the coalition in battle at Qarqar on the river Orontes. In modern Syria, he claims to have defeated them. Ahab is named in the Stele as 'Ahab the Israelite.' He had one of the strongest forces in the coalition (2,000 chariots and 10,000 infantry) attesting to the wealth and power of the Israelite Kingdom at this time.

In the midst of war and theft, Ahab repents. Someone speaks to him. And the Lord knows, clearly, knows all the turbulent water King Ahab swims to stay alive. Yet, Ahab sees himself, as he is, and asks God for mercy. How many times do we remember the repentance of Ahab of wars, murder and theft?

We don't seem to stop and look at this.

And this is for us in these times of upheaval and changes we want to cease.

1 Kings 25

25 (There was none who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the Lord like Ahab, whom Jezebel his wife incited. 26 He acted very abominably in going after idols, as the Amorites had done, whom the Lord cast out before the people of Israel.)

27 And when Ahab heard those words,

he tore his clothes and put sackcloth on his flesh and fasted and lay in sackcloth
and went about dejectedly.

28 And the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,
29 “Have you seen how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself before me, I will not bring the disaster in his days; but in his son's days I will bring the disaster upon his house.”

Jesus waited for his brothers and sisters to sort out his death, His own family mocked Him after the knowledge of Luke Chapters 1 and 2. They could see His Mission.

John 14:19
Because I Live, You Also Will Live.

Biblical saints. And then you have Jesus Christ. I like this Jesus Christ, so very, very well. Hezekiah accepted the fate of his Children. Eli accepted the fate of his Children. Saul did as well. Oh, om.

We speak up...
to share our lives and be the well build comfort, shelter, help for those need the Lord. Praying daily for our family to have God's Favor. Using the teachable moments to teach. Jesus calls His Holy Spirit Comfort, Teacher, Helper.

Father God,
Help us to deal with each other
with Love.

In You, we live, move and have our being.
Asking for your inspirations and wisdom to know the gifts and love for each other.

1 Peter 4:10
As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace:

1 Corinthians 12:7-11
To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.

Romans 12:6
Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us

Ephesians 2:8
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God

Ephesians 2:8
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God

Being up building to one another for the Glory of God.

1 Thessalonians 5:11
Therefore encourage one another and build one another up,
just as you are doing.

That in doing the will of God for our lives, we are nourished in God's Love.
Nourishing ourselves to do the will of God
Assisting those we Love. The People God has giving us.
Broadening prayer really all over the world because we reach far in You.
Lifting our world, nation, the news we see, the people we just see barest glimpses of.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

In Jesus, we say our Amen. Rejoicing in the Holy Spirit
bringing us all more of our Father God.

Rejoicing in the Hope, Love and Power of the Word of God working,
 alive and filled with Joy.

Abba, Father God

You are The Good Father asking us to Love ourselves.
To have a Spirit of Power.
To Love others.

Abundant Love flowing down. Soaking us all
His Living Water flows.

Opening our doors with expectation of Your Continued Goodness
in ourselves, in the ones we Love,
Jesus Christ in the people You bring us.

We pray for the safety of
our Schools to be a safe, good,
warm place for the Children
Children need their Schools.
We uphold them with our Love and Prayers.

We ask Your Mighty Word
to for all the re-openings of September 2022
Finding Your Blessing and Word of Love.

Blessing our Nation, blessing us.
Ending our Divisions.

Jesus help us in this Nation to be in Your Word
see more Joy.

Email registry at bottom.! “All Scripture is inspired by God” (2 Timothy 3:16). Men “moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God” (2 Peter 1:21). The Holy Spirit carried men along, moving and guiding them as they wrote in their own words what God wanted them to say. The Bible is unique; comprised of 80 separate books, & written over a period of thousands of years by more than 40 writers with one Author, spanning the centuries, different states of peace & war & different situations in life. The Bible answers the question: of who is God, who is man & what can their relationship can be. Although the Bible was written on perishable material and copied by hand for many centuries, its accuracy is not in doubt, proven by Dead Sea Scrolls and papyrus from 2,000 years. The Bible has survived persecution & criticism to be read with great interest in each generation. The Bible gives witness to the greatness of the Creator. A loving Father concerned for all of his creation. With each verse of the bible witnessing to God is love and the multitude & vastness of His attributes. The Bible was written for you. <><
