1-3 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, So panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: When shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?

4 These things I remember, and pour out my soul within me, How I went with the throng, and led them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping holyday.

5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him For the help of his countenance.

6-8 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: Therefore do I remember thee from the land of the Jordan, And the Hermons, from the hill Mizar. Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterfalls: All thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.

Yet Jehovah will command his lovingkindness in the day-time; And in the night his song shall be with me, Even a prayer unto the God of my life.

Tears are the subject today. We all have them. I've heard friends say they don't want to go to church after a trauma, even problem, because they will cry in church. And I have to say, a good cry is wonderful. I have cried a lot after my daughter Isabelle died & it was a great relief to sit down and have a good cry - almost as good as a relief/reset button. Yet, it is not relieving, or even wanted, sometimes, to cry in public. Almost everyone who has attended church has cried.

It is important to say what is experienced from unwanted emotional tears in church. When someone trustworthy asks, it is a shared bond. Those unwanted tears build up the body of Christ in compassion. It is not helpful to someone, especially after the loss of a child, to ask what is wrong. Obviously, a widow cries for a husband, a parent cries for a child. It is unhelpful to ask about a death at a party or social event. It is not wanted to receive an apology for missing the event, publicly. Sometimes the best response is merely to pat or rub someone's back. Compassion does not need to be verbal. Prayers do not need to be said out loud, our Father hears.

If you have experienced sadness & tears at church, it is Okay. Really. God honors the courage to cry in public. And there is more of it going on than you may have noticed. If you have ever put your whole body on the floor and cried to the Lord, don't you think, like I do, our Father, lovingly understands crying at the foot of the cross is the same as sniffing in public in church.

Many people have experienced overwhelming joy in church, as well. The awesome love of God sometimes gives us tears of joy, only the child of God understands at the moment!

Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him, Who is the help of my countenance, and my God.

This is the blessing with which Moses the man of God blessed the people of Israel before his death. 2 He said,

“The Lord came from Sinai

all his holy ones were in his hand;
so they followed in your steps,

Say Deuteronomy and most people inwardly groan. A lot of explaining how to be people of a Holy God. Not this time, this is answered prayer. Not as it should be, but our prayer is usually more about supplication instead of thanks. Look at this, it is true, God is more about willingness to provide blessings than anything else. Prayer is not bending God's will, it is receiving His willingness to bless. You are invited, as Jesus Christ's younger sibling, to look at the blessings and ask Father God to provide one for you or loved ones. These are what blessings are made of.

Blessings: Blessings of the Law, living righteously for praise of a Loving God. To live and not to die. A help. To put incense before You, as prayer, You accept the work of their hand. The beloved of the Lord dwells in safety. The High God surrounds him all day long, and dwells between his shoulders. The best gifts of earth and heaven. Abundance in work, in rest, godly friends. The best land, a commander's portion from giving justice. Strength, youth, zest. To be sated with favor and blessing of the Lord. Most blessed of all brothers, God rides through heavens to be your help. God is your eternal resting place. Happy are you, O Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord, the shield of your help, and the sword of your triumph! Your enemies shall come fawning to you, and you shall tread upon their backs.

We give thanks, Father God, you are Good and Loving. We thank You for the change of seasons and the restoration of living things. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Psalm 87 ~ My fountains are in you

Living in the internet age is a blessing, when I am not able to put my finger on the Word, I look through pages on sermons & commentaries for the meaning I am looking to express.

St. Patrick drove the snakes from Ireland, the human snakes inciting war & human sacrifice. He did this without a-how-to-book, without a phone call to a spiritual guidance counselor, without visual aids. Patrick had his faith and the word of God. Led by the Holy Spirit of God, his life made a huge impact.

St. Patrick ~ Thomas Cahill, Catholic author of the best-selling book How the Irish Saved Civilization ~ "Some 1,500 years ago a teenage boy from what is now Great Britain was kidnapped and enslaved by marauders from a neighboring country. Not since Paris absconded with Helen of Troy has a kidnapping so changed the course of history.

The invading marauders came from fifth-century Ireland. The teenager they captured eventually escaped, but returned voluntarily some years later. In the meantime, he had become convinced that he was handpicked by God to convert the entire country to Christianity.

Apparently, he was right.

In the process of converting the primitive people of Ireland, however, the former slave experienced a conversion, too. In the years that followed, he not only shared God with the people of Ireland, but also grew in his understanding of God through them. Cahill says, "The early Irish Christianity planted in Ireland by Patrick is much more joyful and celebratory [than its Roman predecessor] in the way it approaches the natural world. It is really not a theology of sin but of the goodness of creation, and it really is intensely incarnational." His use of biblical quotations, Cahill says, "is far more accurate and appropriate than many of the Fathers of the Church."

It's hard to grasp just what an accomplishment that was, says Cahill. When Patrick decided to "willingly go back to the barbarians with the gospel," Cahill explains, "he had to figure out how to bring the values of the gospel he loved to such people. These were people who still practiced human sacrifice, who warred with each other constantly and who were renowned as the great slave traders of the day.

"That was not a simple thing. This was before courses were given to missionaries in what is now called inculturation—how to plant the gospel in such a culture," Cahill says. "No one had ever even thought about how to do it; Patrick had to work his way through it himself.

These two brief documents, Patrick's Confession and his "Letter to Coroticus," are the basis for all we know of the historical Patrick. The uncontested, if somewhat unspecific, biographical facts about Patrick are as follows:

Patrick was born Patricius somewhere in Roman Britain to a relatively wealthy family. He was not religious as a youth and, in fact, claims to have practically renounced the faith of his family.

When Patrick looked back at the end of his life on his service to Ireland, Cahill says, he must have been pleased with his accomplishments. By the time of his death, or shortly thereafter, "the Irish stopped slave trading and they never took it up again." Human sacrifice had become unthinkable. And although the Irish never stopped warring on one another, "war became much more confined and limited by what we might call the 'rules of warfare.'

"I think that though he probably died knowing that he had succeeded in his mission," Cahill adds, "he also died hoping that success would be permanent and not temporary."

In fact, Patrick's success couldn't have been more permanent. Not only had he accomplished what he'd set out to do—convert the nation to Christ—but in the process he'd retrieved from obscurity the primary objective set by Christ for his apostles: the spread of the gospel to the ends of the earth.

And so it was that a young Briton named Patricius died an Irishman named Patrick. And neither Ireland nor Christianity was ever quite the same."

I will utter dark sayings from of old,

that our fathers have told us.
4 We will not hide them from their children,
but tell to the coming generation
the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might,
and the wonders that he has done.

5 He established a testimony in Jacob
and appointed a law in Israel,
which he commanded our fathers
to teach to their children,
6 that the next generation might know them,
the children yet unborn,
and arise and tell them to their children,

Have you ever played the video game, The Sims? You build your person - Sim, from the head to the feet. You gift the Sim with traits. You educate your Sim and you house your Sim. If you become bored with your Sim, you can delete them, or build another one & ignore the first ones. It's a blend of Monopoly, Barbie Dolls and Stepford Wives. After all, Sims become tired, irritable, look up to you, wave and begin to complain.

God was tempted to delete the Children of Israel.

What dark sayings of old?

They spoke against God, saying,

Their heart was not steadfast toward him;

I like the Sims, but never once has my homemade Sim even tried once to tell
me - thanks for my efforts. What would please Father God?

How important?

This is basic truth. If God has not spoken, if He had not testified to his Word, His will, then we are adrift about the meaning of life.

How does God begin the 10 Commandments and see His Commandments?

Exodus 20
"I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery."

God gave us His Commandments to set us free from the bondage of sin.

Give your children the knowledge of God and the hope He provides.
Blessed are you Father God. Help us to remember Your glorious
deeds and to look to You in hope. You have atoned for us in Jesus.
Help us to be the faithful, to abide in prayer and wait upon Your will.

It has been an unusual year, year and a half, for me and a dear friend. If you read Scripture for Today Blogspot, you may already know our much longed for daughter, Isabelle, was stillborn at 33 weeks. September 23, 2008. My good friend, we talk just about every day, has had 7 teenager deaths - family friends - during this time.

The anniversary of death has arrived for one of their cherished friends. We have pain, it is necessary to acknowledge pain.

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.

Part of grieving, from the terrible beginning, is seeing the hope and good news even it the midst of tragedy. Part of sadness, is the relief in being able to tell the Lord how awful it is to feel the pain. The joy we have in this:

In Jesus Christ, we have the sustaining hope:

11 And he said, “There was a man who had two sons. 12 And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of property that is coming to me.’ And he divided his property between them. 13 Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took a journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in reckless living. 14 And when he had spent everything, a severe famine arose in that country, and he began to be in need. 15 So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs. 16 And he was longing to be fed with the pods that the pigs ate, and no one gave him anything.

17 “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father's hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants.”’ 20 And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. 21 And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. His father came out and entreated him, 29 but he answered his father, ‘Look, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command, yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might celebrate with my friends. 30 But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your property with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him!’ 31 And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. 32 It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.’"

The Father, filled with compassion, runs to his child. Both sons have something in common, they are interested in the Father's benefits, without being in love with Him.

It is amazing the depths of the Father's love, because He sells property to benefit the younger son. In an Arabic community, the younger son has publicly humiliated the Father. The younger son was never worried about conventional behavior, or what others thought about him, his reputation, he was interested in fun and experiencing life. The Father calls for the best robe of the house, it is, of course, the Father's robe. The Father has amazing depths of unconditional love, running to embrace and honor his child.

The older son has presumptive sins. He is angry! He has worked to do what was expected for the reward. Falling in with human nature, the biblical stories of brotherhood, he is secretly a little pleased he has a younger brother who has acted so badly for the limelight to shine more brightly on himself. The older brother is a stickler for the rules. He says to the Father - "that son of yours." There is not any brotherly love coming from an open heart.

Two types of nature in mankind, One Loving Father. Most people associate themselves more with the older brother, but why would we want to? The parable ends, we do not know if the older brother forgave and went inside to join the celebration. Why? It is up to us to love with all of our hearts. To love the Father.

Father God, let us love with open hearts. We ask in Jesus' name. Amen.

Luke 2:33-35 ~ God reveals

Luke 2:33-35 (The Message)

^33-35 Jesus' father and mother were speechless with surprise at these words. Simeon went on to bless them, and said to Mary his mother,

This child marks both the failure and
the recovery of many in Israel,
A figure misunderstood and contradicted—
the pain of a sword-thrust through you—
But the rejection will force honesty,
as God reveals who they really are.

Jesus turned the world around, He was misunderstood. Yes, the blind see, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. Luke 7:22

By the end of Mark 1, Jesus' miracles have drawn so much attention, Jesus is not freely moving about:

⁴¹ Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” ⁴² As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed. ⁴³ And He strictly warned him and sent him away at once, ⁴⁴ and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing those things which Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.” ⁴⁵ However, he went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the matter, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter the city, but was outside in deserted places; and they came to Him from every direction.

The beginning of Mark 2, the religious are offended by the miracles of Jesus:

⁶ And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, ⁷ “Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

The offense of the spiritual has led to murderous desires, Mark 3:

⁶ Then the Pharisees went out and immediately plotted with the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy Him.

Why? In Mark 4, Jesus is telling what the Kingdom of Heaven is like. His disciples say this about Him:

⁴¹They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!"

Mark 5, when one man, who had previously terrified the town with his unclean spirits is healed, the town says to Jesus:

¹⁷Then the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region.

Then the Religious have a need for Jesus:

2Then one of the synagogue rulers, named Jairus, came there. Seeing Jesus, he fell at his feet ²³and pleaded earnestly with him, "My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live."

Jesus responds: ²⁴So Jesus went with him.
⁴¹He took her by the hand and said to her, "Talitha koum!" (which means, "Little girl, I say to you, get up!" ). ⁴²Immediately the girl stood up and walked around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. ⁴³He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.

A woman from the crowd, feels if she can just reach out to Him:

7When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, ²⁸because she thought, "If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed."

32But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. ³³Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. ³⁴He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."


Mark 6, Jesus visits Nazareth, His hometown:
⁴Jesus said to them, "Only in his hometown, among his relatives and in his own house is a prophet without honor." ⁵He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. ⁶And he was amazed at their lack of faith.

Jesus' disciples see Him every day:
They cried out, ⁵⁰because they all saw him and were terrified.

Immediately he spoke to them and said, "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." ⁵¹Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed, ⁵²for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened.

The crowd had now become crazed for the miracles of Jesus, without seeking to worship Him. He returns to Gennesaret, where they have previously asked Jesus to leave:

⁵³When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret and anchored there. ⁵⁴As soon as they got out of the boat, people recognized Jesus. ⁵⁵They ran throughout that whole region and carried the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. ⁵⁶And wherever he went—into villages, towns or countryside—they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched him were healed.

Mark 7, Jesus declares the cleanliness of the soul is more important than rules:

¹⁸And he said to them, "Then are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, ¹⁹since it enters not his heart but his stomach, and is expelled?" (Thus he declared all foods clean.) ²⁰And he said, "What comes out of a person is what defiles him. ²¹For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, ²²coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. ²³ All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person."

36And Jesus charged them to tell no one. But the more he charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. ³⁷And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, "He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak."

Mark 8, The crowd continues to gather to be healed, to see, to be fed spiritually.

They had nothing to eat, he called his disciples to him and said to them, ² "I have compassion on the crowd, because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. ³And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way. And some of them have come from far away."

And they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full. ⁹And there were about four thousand people.

Jesus ask His disciples, who do you say I am?

29 Peter answered him, "You are the Christ."

The disciples are then told by Jesus He will suffer and die. Peter begins to rebuke Jesus.

Mark 9: Jesus returns to the foot of the mountain, to his disciples after experiencing the Transfiguration with Moses and Elijah, Peter, James and John. He is greeted by his disciples like Moses. They have been unable to cast out an evil spirit.

²³And Jesus said to him, "'If you can'! All things are possible for one who believes." ²⁴Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, "I believe; help my unbelief!"

7But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose. ²⁸And when he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, "Why could we not cast it out?" ²⁹And he said to them, "This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.

50 Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another."

Mark 10, Jesus continues to work with the disciples and teach us:

¹⁵ Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it." ¹⁶And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.

Mark 11

²³ Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. ²⁴Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. ²⁵And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses."

Mark 12:
²⁸ And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, "Which commandment is the most important of all?"

²⁹Jesus answered, "The most important is, 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. ³⁰And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' ³¹ The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."

³²And the scribe said to him, "You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that he is one, and there is no other besides him. ³³And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices."

³⁴And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God."

Mark 13, Jesus tells His disciples about the end of the world, the end of the Temple, the end of Jesus, he urges them to be alert, to be awake.

Mark 14 Jesus is worshiped for the first time, without thought of reward:
³ And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head. ⁴There were some who said to themselves indignantly, "Why was the ointment wasted like that? ⁵For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor." And they scolded her. ⁶But Jesus said, "Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. ⁷For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good for them. But you will not always have me. ⁸ She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burial. ⁹And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her."

⁴¹And he came the third time and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? It is enough; the hour has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. ⁴²Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand."

⁴⁸And Jesus said to them, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? ⁴⁹ Day after day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. But let the Scriptures be fulfilled." ⁵⁰ And they all left him and fled.


⁶⁰And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, "Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?" ⁶¹But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?" ⁶²And Jesus said, "I Am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven."

Mark 15
And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. ³⁹ And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he breathed his last, he said, "Truly this man was the Son of God!"

⁴⁰There were also women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome. ⁴¹When he was in Galilee, they followed him and ministered to him, and there were also many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem.

Mark 16

⁹Now when he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons. ¹⁰ She went and told those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept. ¹¹But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it.

¹⁴Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at table, and he rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. ¹⁵And he said to them, "Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. ¹⁶ Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

²⁰And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by accompanying signs.

Mark 5 ~ immediately there met Him

1 They came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gerasenes. 2 And when Jesus had stepped out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit. 3 He lived among the tombs. And no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain, 4 for he had often been bound with shackles and chains, but he wrenched the chains apart, and he broke the shackles in pieces. No one had the strength to subdue him. 5 Night and day among the tombs and on the mountains he was always crying out and cutting himself with stones. 6 And when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and fell down before him. 7 And crying out with a loud voice, he said, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, do not torment me.” 8 For he was saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” 9 And Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” He replied, “My name is Legion, for we are many.” 10 And he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the country. 11 Now a great herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside, 12 and they begged him, saying, “Send us to the pigs; let us enter them.” 13 So he gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out, and entered the pigs, and the herd, numbering about two thousand, rushed down the steep bank into the sea and were drowned in the sea.

14 The herdsmen fled and told it in the city and in the country. And people came to see what it was that had happened. 15 And they came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed [oppressed by demons] man, the one who had had the legion, sitting there, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid. 16 And those who had seen it described to them what had happened to the demon-possessed man and to the pigs. 17 And they began to beg Jesus to depart from their region. 18 As he was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed with demons begged him that he might be with him. 19 And he did not permit him but said to him, “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” 20 And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and everyone marveled.


21 And when Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered about him, and he was beside the sea. 22 Then came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and seeing him, he fell at his feet 23 and implored him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live.” 24 And he went with him.

And a great crowd followed him and thronged about him. 25 And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, 26 and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. 27 She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. 28 For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.” 29 And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. 30 And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?” 31 And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’” 32 And he looked around to see who had done it. 33 But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. 34 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”

35 While he was still speaking, there came from the ruler's house some who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?” 36 But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.” 37 And he allowed no one to follow him except Peter and James and John the brother of James. 38 They came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and Jesus saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. 39 And when he had entered, he said to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but sleeping.” 40 And they laughed at him. But he put them all outside and took the child's father and mother and those who were with him and went in where the child was. 41 Taking her by the hand he said to her, “Talitha cumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” 42 And immediately the girl got up and began walking (for she was twelve years of age), and they were immediately overcome with amazement. 43 And he strictly charged them that no one should know this, and told them to give her something to eat.

We did have another Wednesday evening worship service filled with the experiencing of the Holy Spirit's power, peace, joy, wisdom, strength, gentleness...and so much more...here are the sermon notes for the power of the message of the 5th Chapter of the Gospel according to Mark.

As I warned the congregation gathered, we all can have the tendency of getting "stuck" on demons being moved from a man into a herd of pigs (2000 of them) and then driven off a cliff. It is all too dramatic and visual, too Hollywoodish, and this can so distract us that we can miss some of the most important insights we are to glean about ourselves from this story...

I) God's power in Jesus and His Holy Spirit will come and change and transform even the most tormented soul (Mark 5:1-13)

II) We observe and experience this kind of transforming power effecting others, it scares us and yet draws us toward Jesus, that we even talk about it with others (...scared to death, they bolted and told their story in the town. Everyone wanted to see what had happened... Mark 5:14).

III) The tangible evidence of God's power at work can cause us to be both in awe and upset all at the same time (...at first they were in awe...and then they were upset...Mark 5:15,16)

IV) In our conflicted state of intrigue, fear, awe and unsettledness, we can want to look for a way to process or dismiss the power...the trasformation...so we do so by proclaiming to ourselves and the Lord that this power or transformation must be for "someone else" (...and they begged Jesus to leave and go somewhere else... Mark 5:17)

V) When we choose to not have faith or we choose to process with unbelief about His power rather than belief, Jesus will in fact depart and take his power with him (...and Jesus was getting into the boat to leave Mark 5:18a)

VI) Part of the completion, sealing, finishing of our healing and transformation is wrapped up in the giving of the glory to God, publically, to others (...Go home and tell your own people...tell them your story...what the Master did for you...how He had mercy on you...Mark 5:20)
