Luke 12:48b-49
Everyone to whom much was given,
of him much will be required,
and from him to whom they entrusted much,
they will demand the more.
I came to cast fire on the earth,
and would that it were already kindled!
Bill Gates in 2007 wrote a series of articles and gave interviews, saying if the USA accepted huge costs for college, we would be putting our children into serfdom. Rapidly we have seen housing rise, rent costs soar, debt rise, and historic inflation. With the crush of debt, the USA has seen the birth rates not increase, dramatically, and politicians open the border and flood the labor market.
Historic Inflation.
2 full-time Jobs per person.
No spare time.
Missing family.
Constant anxiety.
Boredom.
Isolation.
Worry over increasing Costs.
Lower opportunities.
Longing for a Blessing
We can stem this personally. Even in the storm. We can be the Jabez Prayer.
In fact, this has already happened among the elderly.
Nursing homes and assisted living are becoming ... vacant. Especially the nursing homes with many floors, you see the incredible vacancies driving by in early evening.
These places had become something regular and sad. People today will tell you they are going to assisted living and, actually, go to apartments where Meals on Wheels deliver. And others stay in their homes and come what may. And then, there are those that can offer elderly adult children the old adult's lovely home, again, to live une famille. This is being embraced and has shown up in Pew Reports. Free housing with room for all.
Goals! Not many families want to pay double above college costs, for nursing homes, for the elderly to have unhappiness and end of any inheritance. Parents live with their children and find chores to do. We have this on our small block, where we live.
This isn't as zippy as reporting transgender of 55 people in 32,000 women's professional athletics, but is much, much, much more frequent and real. Never discussed! Family helping family!
One family in our Church added a Garage apartment...
For the elderly parents. 12 years. My brother built a 2-bedroom house on his 3 acres for
his in-laws. And they ate dinner together nightly. 10 years.
Yes, I'm aware not all family can live together.
For history, for health, for safety. Yes.
I'm speaking to the ones WHO COULD.
We also have a garage apartment within 2 blocks of us
for an aging parent, who had cancer. I met our neighbor
and she became misty eyed and said they had only had
5 years together, and she wished they had done this 2 decades ago.
Our neighbor went on to say her mother's social security and more
than made the payments on the addition. When they sold the house,
they made more than they ever dreamed to have made.
In our grandparents' day, apartments weren't rented. Because you could find rooms to rent. Or, like my husband's very well-to-do grandparents, they lived above a car garage for 5 years, doing gardening and helping the homeowner, to save money and pay cash for a house. If we have the opportunity to do something similar, 5 years of income would purchase a home. And reduce incredible family stresses. My parents did this in a studio apartment and purchased their first home in 1957.
A friend of my husband, they lived in their parents' one - room pool house for 5 years and paid cash for their Park Cities, Dallas, home.
My mother was a Realtor and had the largest commercial sale in Dallas in 1992 to the Charitable Foundation Communities foundation. They purchased a large area of land near Mid-Town Dallas Crescent Hotel. Held it for 10 years and made more charitable endeavors possible.
She had a client who lived near Fair Park in Dallas, considered dangerous at the time to live, he invested in larger properties until he owned small and then large skyscrapers.
Avoiding debt makes a more interesting life. More travel. More opportunities. Less worry.
One of the neighbors on our street, in the last 10 years, had a lovely house, a lovely job and was new to the company. Wham, layoffs by years of employment. They escaped foreclosure after a year of job looking, moving back to the East Coast to live in her childhood home. And were delighted to be invited, visibly relieved to have an Atlas sized burden become easy. Delighted the elderly mother as well.
Another longtime family moved from a wonderful home to her parents' even larger home. Happily living with her aged parents, in her parent's home. To give their daughter their paid off home in our neighborhood. To provide security to the grandchildren.
Another set of very active people bought a house with their elderly parents. They had such good times. Walking, putting up a huge TV in the garage for sports watching. This lasted 6 years. And then the house was sold and monies split with the siblings.
There is something going hand in hand
with this type of adventure to provide family rewards.
Disciple. Family. Integrity. Honor.
This benefits the youth, with plans and dreams,
and would encompass 50-year-olds
finding the labor market has a huge arrow to the door marked, "Youth Only."
Remember the Jabez Prayer
says being Honorable.
Frequently when Jesus healed someone,
they had to go somewhere, wash in the Pool of Salome - Sent.
Carry their mat. Go home to their family.
Miracles are from behavior, too.
The whole commandment that I command you today
you shall be careful to do,
that you may live and multiply,
and go in and possess the land
that the Lord swore to give to your fathers.
And
you shall remember
the whole way that
the Lord your God
has led you
these forty years in the wilderness,
that He might humble you,
testing you to know what was in your heart,
whether you would keep His commandments or not.
And He humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna,
which you did not know,
nor did your fathers know,
that He might make you know
that man
does not live by bread alone
Man lives by every Word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
4 Your clothing did not wear out on you
and your foot did not swell these forty years.
5 Know then in your heart that,
as a man disciplines his son, the Lord your God disciplines you.
6 So you shall
keep the commandments of the Lord your God
by walking in his ways and by fearing him.
For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land,
a land of brooks of water,
of fountains and springs,
flowing out in the valleys and hills,
a land of wheat and barley,
of vines and fig trees and pomegranates,
a land of olive trees and honey,
a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity,
in which you will lack nothing,
a land whose stones are iron,
and out of whose hills you can dig copper.
And you shall eat and be full,
and you shall bless the Lord your God f
or the good land
He has given you.
“Take care lest you forget the Lord your God
by not keeping His Commandments
and
His rules
and His statutes,
which I command you today, 12
lest, when you have eaten and are full
and have built good houses
and live in them,
and
when your herds and flocks multiply
and
your silver and gold is multiplied
and all that you have is multiplied,
then your heart be lifted up,
and
you forget the Lord your God,
Who brought you out of the land of Egypt
out of the house of slavery
Who led you through the great and terrifying wilderness,
with its fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground
where there was no water,
Who brought you water out of the flinty rock,
Who fed you in the wilderness with manna that your fathers did not know,
that He might humble you and test you,
to do you good in the end.
Beware lest you say in your heart,
‘My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’
You shall remember
The Lord your God,
for it is He
who gives you power to get wealth
That He may confirm His covenant
that He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
And if you forget the Lord your God a
nd go after other gods and serve them and worship them,
I solemnly warn you today
that you shall surely perish.
Like the Nations that the Lord makes to perish before you,
so shall you perish,
because you would not obey
the voice of the Lord your God.
Micah 6:8
He has showed you, O man,
what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly
and
to love mercy
and
to walk humbly with your God.
John 8:12
"I am the light of the world:
he that follows Me shall not walk in darkness,
but shall have the Light of Life."
