Matthew 5:17-19 ~ (New American Bible)

17 "Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away,not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. 19 Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

I remember your ancient laws, O LORD, and I find comfort in them.

Why?

Matthew 7:12
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

We think of the law like the commercials on TV: the Texas Hammer Attorney hammers away at someone. Or we think of the law as the church woman on Saturday Night Live spreading negativity.

God sees His law differently. God sees His spoken word as the law. What does God speak? God speaks love. God wants His people to be blessed, to have hope, to have promise. Just like a good Father hopes for His children. God wants His children to be holy, as He is.

Mark 12:30-34

³⁰Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' ³¹The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'There is no commandment greater than these."

³²"Well said, teacher," the man replied. "You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. ³³To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."

³⁴When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God."
