Matthew 15:21-28 ~ Great is our Faith

Formerly the Island of Tyre.

Proverbs 21:31
31 The horse is made ready for the day of battle,
but the victory belongs to the Lord.

Matthew 15:21-28

21 And Jesus went away from there and withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon.

22 And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and was crying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely oppressed by a demon.”

23 But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, “Send her away, for she is crying out after us.”

24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

25 But she came and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, help me.”

26 And he answered, “It is not right to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs.”

27 She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table.”

28 Then Jesus answered her, “O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed instantly.

So what's new is Sidon?

Ancient Origins Reports:

8 JUNE, 2018 -
Secret chamber hidden beneath an ancient temple in Lebanon surprises archaeologists as the digging is completed from 2015.

Nothing ignites archaeological and historical curiosity more than an unexpected and mysterious discovery.
A secret room uncovered by researchers at a Bronze Age temple in Sidon, Lebanon, is such a find.

Buried within the ruins of the temple, a “deeply concealed room” was found by a delegation from the British Museum in 2015, writes the The Daily Star.

The walls of the hidden underground room were “monumental”, almost 15 feet (4.5 meters) high, and the floor was 24 feet (7.5 meters) below ground. The room, believed to be an extension on the ancient temple, held pottery and wooden vessels and utensils for eating and drinking, as well as artifacts for rituals and celebrations. It is thought that it may have been reserved for high-status people of the community.

The Daily Star reports that a previously discovered chamber at the Sidon’s Frères archaeological site, dubbed “holy of holies,” dates back to 1300 B.C., and researchers believe it was where the ancient community worshipped their gods. The mysterious subterranean room is adjacent to this.

Head of the delegation, Claude Serhal Doumit, says the find is significant, announcing, “Sealed by the imposition of a Persian period building constructed on top of it, this new room is of the highest importance in terms of its monumentality and untouched pottery material, both [domestically produced] and imported from Cyprus and Mycenae,” in a statement released by the delegation.

Later excavations also revealed a model tabernacle, incense burners, and more artifacts used in ancient banquets. Serhal explained , “Active feasting activity took place within the temple as shown by the quantity of local pottery as well an assemblage of Greek banquet wares, including plates manufactured exclusively for export to the Orient.” Serhal also said that the charred altar found in one of the rooms unearthed at the site was likely used in animal sacrifice rituals.

What else has Sidon reported?

The Alexander Sarcophagus is a late 4th century BC Hellenistic stone sarcophagus adorned with bas-relief carvings of Alexander the Great. The work is remarkably well preserved and has been celebrated for its high aesthetic achievement.

Matthew 11:21

Jesus said:

"Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had happened in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes."

Why? Ezekiel spoke Prophetically of King David's great ally, the nation of Tyre - who supplied many of the items for the Building of The Lord's Temple by Sidon. Ezekiel said the island nation of Tyre would be filled in by a world leader who would then go to Jerusalem when learning of the prophecy to bow to the Priest of the Temple because he learned his life was foretold of by the Word of God. Ezekiel went on to say Tyre would remain in ruins - which it is to study this monumental work.

Jesus had this same effect on Alexander the Great. Alexander was not part of the Jewish Caste. And he rode to find a priest and bow down to God's Representative.

Joel 3:4
Now, what have you against me, Tyre and Sidon and all you regions of Philistia? Are you repaying me for something I have done? If you are paying me back, I will swiftly and speedily return on your own heads what you have done.

Joel 3

3 “For behold, in those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, 2 I will gather all the nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. And I will enter into judgment with them there, on behalf of my people and my heritage Israel, because they have scattered them among the nations and have divided up my land, 3 and have cast lots for my people, and have traded a boy for a prostitute, and have sold a girl for wine and have drunk it.

4 “What are you to me, O Tyre and Sidon, and all the regions of Philistia? Are you paying me back for something? If you are paying me back, I will return your payment on your own head swiftly and speedily. 5 For you have taken my silver and my gold, and have carried my rich treasures into your temples. 6 You have sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks in order to remove them far from their own border. 7 Behold, I will stir them up from the place to which you have sold them, and I will return your payment on your own head. 8 I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the people of Judah, and they will sell them to the Sabeans, to a nation far away, for the Lord has spoken.”

9 Proclaim this among the nations:
Consecrate for war;
stir up the mighty men.
Let all the men of war draw near;
let them come up.
10 Beat your plowshares into swords,
and your pruning hooks into spears;
let the weak say, “I am a warrior.”

11 Hasten and come,
all you surrounding nations,
and gather yourselves there.
Bring down your warriors, O Lord.
12 Let the nations stir themselves up
and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat;
for there I will sit to judge
all the surrounding nations.

13 Put in the sickle,
for the harvest is ripe.
Go in, tread,
for the winepress is full.
The vats overflow,
for their evil is great.

14 Multitudes, multitudes,
in the valley of decision!
For the day of the Lord is near
in the valley of decision.
15 The sun and the moon are darkened,
and the stars withdraw their shining.

16 The Lord roars from Zion,
and utters his voice from Jerusalem,
and the heavens and the earthquake.
But the Lord is a refuge to his people,
a stronghold to the people of Israel.

The Glorious Future of Judah
17 “So you shall know that I am the Lord your God,
who dwells in Zion, my holy mountain.
And Jerusalem shall be holy,
and strangers shall never again pass through it.

18 “And in that day
the mountains shall drip sweet wine,
and the hills shall flow with milk,
and all the streambeds of Judah
shall flow with water;
and a fountain shall come forth from the house of the Lord
and water the Valley of Shittim.

19 “Egypt shall become a desolation
and Edom a desolate wilderness,
for the violence done to the people of Judah,
because they have shed innocent blood in their land.
20 But Judah shall be inhabited forever,
and Jerusalem to all generations.
21 I will avenge their blood,
blood I have not avenged,
for the Lord dwells in Zion.”

The Lord our God, our Father, is filled with wisdom.

When He says He delights in mankind in Genesis - He is in full awareness of all of mankind.

Jesus has given us His compassion when we rely upon Him.

The multitudes were fed because Jesus met a child with a few fish and barley loaves. And really - millenniums have been nourished and held.

Mere glass survives from faithful Medieval workers from 1100 A.D.

Charlemagne present at The Basilica of St Denis consecration in 775. Most of what is now known about the Carolingian church at St Denis resulted from a lengthy series of excavations begun under the American art historian Sumner McKnight Crosby in 1937.

The building was about 60m long, with a monumental westwork, single transepts, a crossing tower and a lengthy eastern apse over a large crypt (parts of which survive).

According to one of the Abbey's many histories - a leper, who was sleeping in the nearly completed church the night before its planned consecration, witnessed a blaze of light from which Christ, accompanied by St Denis and a host of angels, emerged to conduct the consecration ceremony himself. Before leaving, Christ healed the leper, tearing off his diseased skin to reveal a perfect complexion underneath. A misshapen patch on a marble column was said to be the leper's former skin, which stuck there when Christ discarded it. Having been consecrated by Christ, the fabric of the building was itself regarded as sacred.

Abbot Suger (c. 1081 – 1151), friend, confidant of French kings, began work around 1135 on the rebuild and enlargement of the abbey to which he had been given as an oblate at the age of 10. In his famous account of the work undertaken during his administration, Suger was careful to explain and justify his decision to rebuild the church, explaining at length about its inability to cope with the crowds of pilgrims visiting the shrine of St Denis, particularly. Suger's fascination with light was not merely aesthetic. Like many French clerics in the 12th century AD, he was a believer, like many with Dionysius the Areopagite, a 6th-century mystic and they equated the slightest reflection or glint with divine light.

John 14:14

If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

Abba,

You have said to trust and believe in God is what pleases You.

We will do this. You are our Hope and Future.

Our faith in You is the one Nebuchadnezzar believed God was with him. And was in his many seasons.

Our faith is one Ezekiel held out as a slave in the Babylonian Chaldean Empire.

Our faith is the one Alexander put down his arms and went into a highly judgmental society to honor the God of All.

Our faith is like Suger - architects of the Basilica of Saint Denis Paris, who was so captivated by light all of his life - dedicated his life to building the Cathedral.

Our faith is the one causing kings to build Cathedrals.

Our faith is one causing stained glass to remain from the 1100s. We have the faith of the artists.

Our faith is the one of a small wooden Church loving those within.

The Light of Jesus Christ passes through the millenniums and is alive in us today.

Your Will be accomplished. All things work together for good for those who believe in God and work according to His Purpose.

May our faith last longer than glass from the 12th Century. We celebrate the prayers covering this glass.

Amen in Jesus for ourselves, the ones we love, the people given to us. His Compassion and miracles. For our Nation and the Nations trusting in God. We are the people who call upon the Lord God our Father for His Gracious and Good Will to be achieved.

In the Name of Jesus. Amen.

♔ Lord Jesus Saves!

Email registry at bottom.! “All Scripture is inspired by God” (2 Timothy 3:16). Men “moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God” (2 Peter 1:21). The Holy Spirit carried men along, moving and guiding them as they wrote in their own words what God wanted them to say. The Bible is unique; comprised of 80 separate books, & written over a period of thousands of years by more than 40 writers with one Author, spanning the centuries, different states of peace & war & different situations in life. The Bible answers the question: of who is God, who is man & what can their relationship can be. Although the Bible was written on perishable material and copied by hand for many centuries, its accuracy is not in doubt, proven by Dead Sea Scrolls and papyrus from 2,000 years. The Bible has survived persecution & criticism to be read with great interest in each generation. The Bible gives witness to the greatness of the Creator. A loving Father concerned for all of his creation. With each verse of the bible witnessing to God is love and the multitude & vastness of His attributes. The Bible was written for you. <><
