Matthew 1:2-25
2 Abraham was the father of Isaac, and Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, 3 and Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram, 4 and Ram the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab the father of Nahshon, and Nahshon the father of Salmon, 5 and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse, 6 and Jesse the father of David the king. And David was the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah, 7 and Solomon the father of Rehoboam, and Rehoboam the father of Abijah, and Abijah the father of Asaph, 8 and Asaph the father of Jehoshaphat, and Jehoshaphat the father of Joram, and Joram the father of Uzziah, 9 and Uzziah the father of Jotham, and Jotham the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, 10 and Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, and Manasseh the father of Amos, and Amos the father of Josiah, 11 and Josiah the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon.
12 And after the deportation to Babylon: Jechoniah was the father of Shealtiel, and Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, 13 and Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, and Abiud the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim the father of Azor, 14 and Azor the father of Zadok, and Zadok the father of Achim, and Achim the father of Eliud, 15 and Eliud the father of Eleazar, and Eleazar the father of Matthan, and Matthan the father of Jacob, 16 and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ.
17 So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ fourteen generations.
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed[f] to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. 19 And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet:
23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel”
(which means, God with us). 24 When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, 25 but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.
Matthew 1 seems like a typical Genealogical Tree. Start with the Beginning work your way to the recent descendants.
Now look at Luke 3. Not your typical Genealogical Tree.
Luke 3: 23-38
23 Jesus, when he began his ministry,
was about thirty years of age,
being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph,

OF COURSE this is Not Your Typical Family Tree. This is the Family of GOD Himself. Alpha and Omega. The Almighty Father!!!
We are all going to see these two family trees from different points in our lives, in our faith walks. One says one part of Scripture is Alive to us and the next something else is filled with the Light of Jesus our Christ. Son of God.
Let's compare and Contrast.
Let's Start with This:
Jesus is God's Only Son. Our Righteousness, Our Salvation, Our One True God. Light of True Light. Merciful God.
Wonderful. Savior. Almighty God.
Wonderful. Savior. Almighty God.
Matthew 1
What we expect to see in a Family Tree, the Seeds start to the Tree branches. In the Jewish community - Bar, Father then Son.
It's the way the Old Testament Family Trees are fully listed. It's Logical and Traditional.
Why would we even want to look at the framework of The Family Tree? Good Question. People ask why are the four Gospels different??? We can see what the 12 Disciples are seeing in the Amazing and Wondrous Acts of God John 21 tells us are so numerous, all the books in the world couldn't tell you and me what Jesus was doing each day. The Gospel, John tells us, is the framework of Jesus' Ministry. One day we will know all of the details in Heaven.
Matthew starts His Gospel with the Traditional. And Flings open the 12 Open Gates to God Possibilities of Jesus. The end of the Family Tree is JESUS.
What we see in the family before Jesus is this. The Vine.
John's Gospel of Jesus' Ministry Chapter 15 ~ Jesus says:
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
This would tell us the Four Gospels support each other in telling us Jesus Christ.
We see conflict of life and self interest in the forebears of Jesus Christ. In fact, we could summarize the lives or the Living ancestry of Jesus listed as conflict, self interest, Love for God, need for God, listen to God and overcome the world. We could say Light did not overcome darkness. John 1.
Or we could say: Luke 8:4-15
He was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. 6 Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.”
When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”
9 His disciples asked him what this parable meant. 10 He said, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that,
“‘though seeing, they may not see;
though hearing, they may not understand.’
11 “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13 Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. 14 The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. 15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.
Luke supports Matthew 1.
The Living ancestry of Jesus Christ finds Ruth was very much trampled on by life. A Foreigner in a Jewish land due to poverty and starvation and death of husband and father-in-law. The birds of trouble threatened to eat up the Life of Ruth.
Perez fell on rocky ground. And sold Joseph into Slavery while telling his father Joseph had died. The family withered in the starvation drought. On Many Levels.
Jesse must have been in life among thorns to have so many sons. When Samuel showed up with God's Blessing and Favor, Jesse was going to choke out David from being seen by Samuel. David was just another son cog. And David was in good soil in his faith and began to yield a Crop for God.
This Family is the Vine a hundred times. And is the Roots of the Tree.
Colossians 2:7
Rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
Isaiah 11:1
There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.
Maybe Isaiah was saying not the fathers of the Living ancestry tree of Jesus, Jesus Himself.
Luke 3
Jesus,
when he began his ministry,
was about thirty years of age,
being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph
Zechariah 4:7
he will bring out the capstone to shouts of ‘God bless it! God bless it!’
he shall bring forward the top stone amid shouts of 'Grace, grace to it!'"
Is the Beginning of the New Covenant. Turning Fathers to Sons.
Jesus has overcome Death. Jesus Points to Life, Eternal Life.
Jesus has overcome Death. Jesus Points to Life, Eternal Life.
Mark 4
30 And he said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable shall we use for it? 31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth, 32 yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.”
Luke 3 is most definitely not your typical Family Tree. The Son of God is First. Capstone.
Jesus is
Malachi 4:6
And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.
Jesus is
Luke 1:17
And he will go on before the Lord in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous--to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."
Jesus is removing utter destruction and is offering Salvation to the world. Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.
Matthew 5:17
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them."
Matthew and Luke see the typical framework of Jesus differently. And yet all of the Word of God supports Jesus Christ. The day Jesus sent His Disciples to get a colt for Palm Sunday - not all attended. Psalm Sunday is recorded from the path of the Disciple. Jesus sent His Disciples ahead of Him sometimes and in speaking with the Samaritan Woman - Jesus appears to arrive first. The Gospels record Jesus walked ahead of the Disciples who were in awe. The Gospels are the viewpoint of the men who walked the Path of Jesus Christ.
The lives, the stories, the Love and the Faith:
Psalm 42:4
These things I remember, as I pour out my soul: how I would go with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God with glad shouts and songs of praise, a multitude keeping festival.
Abba,
Blessed be the Name of Jesus. The Christ of God.
The Lord lives, and blessed be my rock, and exalted be the God of my salvation—
Blessed forever; you make him glad with the joy of your presence.
Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
Blessed are they who call upon Jesus - their prayers are heard.
We ask for more Heaven on earth and God's Good Will.
Amen in Jesus Christ
