Luke 2:25-33
A man named Simeon was in Jerusalem. He lived an honorable and devout life. He was waiting for the one who would comfort Israel. The Holy Spirit was with Simeon 26 and had told him that he wouldn’t die until he had seen the Messiah, whom the Lord would send.
27 Moved by the Spirit, Simeon went into the temple courtyard. Mary and Joseph were bringing the child Jesus into the courtyard at the same time. They brought him so that they could do for him what Moses’ Teachings required. 28 Then Simeon took the child in his arms and praised God by saying,
29 “Now, Lord, you are allowing your servant to leave in peace
as you promised.
30 My eyes have seen your salvation,
31 which you have prepared for all people to see.
32 He is a light that will reveal salvation to the nations
and bring glory to your people Israel.”
33 Jesus’ father and mother were amazed at what was said about him. 34 Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother, “This child is the reason that many people in Israel will be condemned and many others will be saved. He will be a sign that will expose 35 the thoughts of those who reject him. And a sword will pierce your heart.”
Interesting, the photo looks like the man in the car Posted several days ago.
Why look at the tender, young life of God arriving as a baby in the ongoing during our overcoming?
Overcoming was going on. Mary's family had not been getting along. Joseph was putting aside a life sailing, probably nicely. This young couple was basically alone and coping with a baby in a barn. The company would be only supernatural.
We all regulate life to finding normalcy. Verse 33 would testify to unusual circumstances being filed as, "We are ok, really." And in finding their feet, this young couple head to 'Church' to have the child dedicated to God. Remembering the History of The Gospels of Jesus Christ, we recognize Gabriel began the journey by appearing to Zechariah in this Very Temple. And as soon as Zechariah, Priest, returned from the Sanctuary of the Temple, everyone understood something very amazing had just occurred. Simeon has an idea what God is doing. The Holy Spirit has placed a warmth in the heart of Simeon.
When Mary arrived in Bethlehem, she was still the betrothed of Joseph. God has placed the people together by apparent works of God. We aren't exactly informed when a Ceremony has happened. The importance is placed on the sacrificial lives of Mary and Joseph to pull toward the Lord. Did the Ceremony occur? Yes, the young couple has done as God has required. The next obvious question would ask, is the Betrothal ceremony enough? No, John 2, tells us weddings are celebration and ceremony. People arrive from miles around. We live in the assumption of the people of God behaving as people of God.
Simeon tells us about God's pleasure, explaining thoughts and actions of the Holy Spirit.
Eyes on Salvation
Preparations for all people to see
A Light to the Nations
Glory to the people
Joseph and Mary are amazed. Their months leading up to this had been very strained.
People - even those most close to the Workings of the Holy Spirit, have doubts and questions and do the best they can. Even the people just finding the next, most logical and relevant step lighted in front of them.
In the middle of this fraught culture, journey of inconvenience, fears and nothing really familiar, the people of God do what God would be pleased to have them do.
And God would place His trust with people who are fragile. Giving them God tender and mild. Trusting His People.
Looking to the Future, in expectation of God's Goodness.
Abba,
O Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, who is enthroned above the cherubim,
You are the God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth.
You have made heaven and earth.
Incline Your ear, O Lord, and hear; open Your eyes, O Lord, and see;
and listen to all the words, Oh God You are the living God.
Truly, O Lord, the Now, O Lord our God,
deliver us from evil that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone, Lord, are God.
Bless us with Joy and Love and Peace. We ask Your Willing Blessings on those we love. For Your
Love and Healing.
And let all of Your Good Creation ask for more Heaven on earth, blessed our Jesus told us to ask.
To seek You First. To see more of Your Kingdom of Heaven on earth. To Live in Love, Joy and Peace.
To seek You First. To see more of Your Kingdom of Heaven on earth. To Live in Love, Joy and Peace.
Your Good Will be done this day and always.
Amen in Jesus.
Amen in Jesus.
