Psalm 135
Praise the Lord!
Praise the name of the Lord,
give praise, O servants of the Lord,
2 who stand in the house of the Lord,
in the courts of the house of our God!
3 Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good;
sing to his name, for it is pleasant!
4 For the Lord has chosen Jacob for himself,
Israel as his own possession.
5 For I know that the Lord is great,
and that our Lord is above all gods.
6 Whatever the Lord pleases, he does,
in heaven and on earth,
in the seas and all deeps.
7 He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth,
who makes lightnings for the rain
and brings forth the wind from his storehouses.
8 He it was who struck down the firstborn of Egypt,
both of man and of beast;
9 who in your midst, O Egypt,
sent signs and wonders
against Pharaoh and all his servants;
10 who struck down many nations
and killed mighty kings,
11 Sihon, king of the Amorites,
and Og, king of Bashan,
and all the kingdoms of Canaan,
12 and gave their land as a heritage,
a heritage to his people Israel.
13 Your name, O Lord, endures forever,
your renown, O Lord, throughout all ages.
14 For the Lord will vindicate his people
and have compassion on his servants.
15 The idols of the nations are silver and gold,
the work of human hands.
16 They have mouths, but do not speak;
they have eyes, but do not see;
17 they have ears, but do not hear,
nor is there any breath in their mouths.
18 Those who make them become like them,
so do all who trust in them.
19 O house of Israel, bless the Lord!
O house of Aaron, bless the Lord!
20 O house of Levi, bless the Lord!
You who fear the Lord, bless the Lord!
21 Blessed be the Lord from Zion,
he who dwells in Jerusalem!
Praise the Lord!
Today, I heard of Bishop Sam Hulsey's passing.
Job 38:7
While the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy
Bishop Sam was a friend of our family and was a joyous part of celebrations and present and timely help when my father-in-law was eulogized - 2005 -pictured that very day fishing the shining water of Heaven. Bishop Sam sent me a 3 page hand-written note when our Infant Daughter Isabelle went to be with the Lord on the day she was born in 2008.
2011,When Edward's cousin Andrew married Sarah, Bishop Sam picked out the most beautiful Scripture. I was astonished and will always remember their wedding in the blazing and beautiful Sunset of Texas as Bishop Sam read God's Word.
Job 27
All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils; My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit. Till I die I will not put away mine integrity from me. My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.
Job 38
“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell me, if you have understanding.
5 Who determined its measurements—surely you know!
Or who stretched the line upon it?
6 On what were its bases sunk,
or who laid its cornerstone,
7 when the morning stars sang together
and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
8 “Or who shut in the sea with doors
when it burst out from the womb,
9 when I made clouds its garment
and thick darkness its swaddling band,
10 and prescribed limits for it
and set bars and doors,
11 and said, ‘Thus far shall you come, and no farther
Psalm 19
The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
2 Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words,
whose voice is not heard.
4 Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
In them he has set a tent for the sun,
5 which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber,
and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.
6 Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
and its circuit to the end of them,
and there is nothing hidden from its heat.
7 The law of the Lord is perfect,
reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure,
making wise the simple;
8 the precepts of the Lord are right,
rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure,
enlightening the eyes;
9 the fear of the Lord is clean,
enduring forever;
the rules of the Lord are true,
and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold,
even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey
and drippings of the honeycomb.
This beautiful part of Eternal Life would not nearly as enjoyable to tell without giving part of his life.

“Speaking personally, Sam was more than a bishop. He was a mentor, a spiritual director, a coach, a pastor, and an advocate. He was one of those rare people whose guidance and decisions changed the course of people’s lives — certainly mine included.
And that puts me in a very large club.”
I asked Bishop Sam the day of the wedding, we both wept at the Words of God a little, why so many parts of the Bible have beauty and then anger. The shortened version of his answer was: "Jesus arrives in our hearts and takes the wrath of God away. And the Words remaining tell of our Salvation, what we did not face in God in condemnation."
I repeated, "God's Face."
Bishop Sam replied, "The Lord lifts His countenance upon me. And you." Bishop Sam's wisdom, as he held both my hands, continued, saying, we all face anger in people around us and the Triumph is from God. And then Bishop Sam was very matter-of-fact-about-people. And we smiled.
His longtime executive secretary, Carolyn Hearn, wrote,
‘Bishop Sam B. Hulsey (not Samuel, as I needed to instruct people regularly) was first and foremost a southern gentleman. He loved good hearts, good friends, good cars, good food, good books, good movies (he never missed the Academy Awards), good soaps, beautiful homes and lawns, beautiful clothes, well behaved children and good manners. He loved knowing about you and your family. He not only remembered almost everyone, he also remembered their dogs. And he loved his dogs.
“Bishop Hulsey was a delightful, perplexing and sometimes frustrating, loving and complex man who got more out of a day than anyone I’ve ever known. He thrived on the comings and goings, travel, liturgy, persons and personalities in the worldwide church and across the street. When he sent his updated burial instructions to the office after he moved to Fort Worth, he noted that he wished his ashes to be scattered in two places.
I sent him a note that I got a chuckle out of that because it was so like him to want to be in two places at once. He didn’t think it was funny.” she wrote.
Bishop Sam could stand in a public place and share stories with you about adult children going to college. He was always a Breath of the Holy Spirit. Profoundly interesting and kind.
God has gifted me with someone I will love to see again in Heaven.
