Matthew 6:6-13
When you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
7 “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 Pray then like this:
“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
10 Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread,
12 and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
When we learn from Matthew 6, we find Jesus gives us the way forward to pray. Telling us what we all repeat, with the admonition not to pray in repeat phrases. This seems counter balanced backward. Father God, is of course, speaking of Hearts. God knows Zechariah's name before he doesn't grab the horns of the Altar. Zacchaeus before he climbs the tree to see Jesus. God knows the cry of two blind men, before they ask and Jesus waits to have them speak. He wants them to ask Him. David is chosen before Samuel sees him and is chosen for his heart.
I'm convinced. We are. And if we want to consider this from another angle, we are certainly able to see the depths.

Luke 11
Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.”
2 And He said to them, “When you pray, say:
“Father, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
3 Give us each day our daily bread,
4 and forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And lead us not into temptation.”
Has Jesus been asked for knowledge about prayer for selfish reasons? He doesn't complete the Lord's Prayer. Jesus stops at Lead us not into temptation.
And begins again with the next thought:
5 Jesus said to his disciples, “Suppose one of you has a friend. Suppose you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, let me borrow three loaves of bread. 6 A friend of mine on a trip has dropped in on me, and I don’t have anything to serve him.’ 7 Your friend might answer you from inside his house, ‘Don’t bother me! The door is already locked, and my children are in bed. I can’t get up to give you anything.’ 8 I can guarantee that although he doesn’t want to get up to give you anything, he will get up and give you whatever you need because he is your friend and because you were so impudent.
9 “So I tell you to ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened for you. 10 Everyone who asks will receive. The one who searches will find, and for the person who knocks, the door will be opened.
I'd guess Jesus thought His Disciples were impudent and compelling.
Jesus was teaching what He lives with us:
11 “If your child asks you, his father, for a fish, would you give him a snake instead? 12 Or if your child asks you for an egg, would you give him a scorpion? 13 Even though you’re evil, you know how to give good gifts to your children.
So how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”
How very calmly Jesus tells His Disciples they are evil. When Aaron was invited to spend time with God in the Holy of Holies, God Himself instructed Aaron was to sprinkle the Holy of Holies with animal blood. Indicating all mankind are sinners. God knew to be seen as Righteous, His Son would cover us with Jesus' Righteousness. Paul tells us there are all manner of sins we aren't even aware of in the layers of our lives and thoughts. Jesus makes us new again in God's Heart and Sight.
Jesus was telling us to pray is to know Jesus and then we fully understand we have been seen, known, heard and Loved.
John 1
48 Nathanael asked Jesus, “How do you know anything about me?”
Jesus answered him, “I saw you under the fig tree before Philip called you.”
49 Nathanael said to Jesus, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the king of Israel!”
50 Jesus replied, “You believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.” 51 Jesus said to Nathanael, “I can guarantee this truth: You will see the sky open and God’s angels going up and coming down to the Son of Man.”
And this is:
When we pray for the people we Love we pray for the Kingdom, the Power and His Glory to live and dwell in the people we Love.
I'm convinced. We are. And if we want to consider this from another angle, we are certainly able to see the depths.
