Psalm 30
I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up
and have not let my foes rejoice over me.
2 O Lord my God, I cried to you for help,
and you have healed me.
3 O Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol;
you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit.
4 Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints,
and give thanks to his holy name.
5 For his anger is but for a moment,
and his favor is for a lifetime.
Weeping may tarry for the night,
but joy comes with the morning.
6 As for me, I said in my prosperity,
“I shall never be moved.”
7 By your favor, O Lord,
you made my mountain stand strong;
you hid your face;
I was dismayed.
8 To you, O Lord, I cry,
and to the Lord I plead for mercy:
9 “What profit is there in my death,
if I go down to the pit?
Will the dust praise you?
Will it tell of your faithfulness?
10 Hear, O Lord, and be merciful to me!
O Lord, be my helper!”
11 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
you have loosed my sackcloth
and
clothed me with gladness,
12 that my glory may sing your praise
and not be silent.
O Lord my God,
I will give thanks to You
forever!
In all our conversations, sometimes we have memories lasting and lasting when we see those conversations in our memories.
And they define us as we process them. With The Lord!
So, here is Poll 3 question,
"What has been one of your all time favorite Sermons."
One of mine goes back a long time in my childhood, when Father Ted Nelson, Resurrection Episcopal Church, Garland, Texas and Christ Church Anglican, Plano, Texas said, roughly, God is Abba. God is Our Father, God loves us, so completely, He hears all of our words, all our heart. We are invited, and we do, ask God anything. And what happens to all of our prayers? This had struck Ted that week. He'd come home from Church and his son was catching a baseball over and over from the sofa. Ted realized that day, usually his son had a question as he greeted Ted, his own dad. And Ted realized he was used to seeing his son and he would answer as he got a glass of milk or got them something from the kitchen. Because it was casual. That day as his son was catching the baseball, it was something his own beloved son wanted pretty badly. And Ted was caught by his son's asking calls.
Ted said we wonder what happens to all of our prayers. Our Father is listening and answering as if He Is Father and Understands more of the questions we have, than we do. Next time we have an answered prayer, remember to rejoice more !!!
Because we have been listened to by Our Father. He does uphold the Universe and He has invited us to ask and listen for the answer. Decades later, Garth Brooks would sing about this. "Thank God for Unanswered Prayer!"
My Second and Favorite Prayer is by Fr. Stephen Bierschenk, Catholic Priest in Dallas. He gave a Sermon saying if we find we have drifted away in thought during prayer, song, worship or homily, do not castigate yourself dreadfully. Our kind and loving Father will simply hold out His Arms to us, hold us to His Heart, and welcome us back. Just put your thoughts and concerns with Jesus, and rejoin the worship. God loves our conversations. This entire Homily was a delight and has been decades. God is too Almighty to find our faults and tell us to fortify. John said He is God of Love. Paul found our Father to be God of encouragement. All the Scripture is about a vulnerable child of God and His Help. He calls Himself Help, Helper and Comforter.
Abba, Father
