Romans 8:14-25
14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with Him in order that we may also be glorified with Him.
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God.
20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption.
And obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved.
Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.
Edward is just where I was from 2016 to late 2021.
His mother has Dementia. And she has done so very well for the last few years, her 90th Birthday had a lot of joy. And even a gentleman admirer. With a good number of balloons all over her chair and even a tiara. But lately, Edward has been asked by his mother where his parents are and how are they. Now, he dreads to find what the conversation will hold. Distressing phone calls arrive from the Memory Care Building. We spent Friday discussing our trip to Dallas for her 91st Birthday and Edward's mixed and strong emotions. This I understand very well.
We had discussed how much Edward's mom loves cinnamon rolls, and we found a cinnamon roll looking like a small Birthday cake. Fortunate!
We arrived as planned at Judy's memory loss facility. It is very lovely and has a good number of assistants per patient. As we entered one of the meeting rooms, most of the crowd was sleeping. Some were alert during the memory game. Edward's mother was sound asleep. The CNA assistants recommended, based upon her recent diminished capacity, to let her sleep after trying to wake her, to let her sleep until lunch. We did, and she was glad to see us for a few minutes in her room, then she was off to lunch. Fortunately, she recognized us, but couldn't recall Edward's name. She was embarrassed. Her daily helper told Edward, in many phone calls, she is increasingly and overwhelmingly angry.
Lately, Edward's mother sees her mother and father outside the windows and wants to go with them. This is frequent. And as we spoke, she scanned the window view for her parents.
Heart tugging and heartrending. Hope and a sadness, surrounded with gladness for her. Edward's mother is a believer of Jesus as Lord.
Edward and I love Central Market Grocery Stores, and traveled over there to get a few of their selection. We sat in the parking lot discussing the way to arrange the rest of the month. We decided to have lunch on the Brazos River in Waco.
As we headed down Dallas' I45, we reached Simpson Stuart Road, a fine day. A pretty stretch of highway. Suddenly, a quarter of a mile a head of us, brakes were slammed on, lanes swerved cars and shapes moved incorrectly and dangerously. And a huge grey plume of smoke. Billowed hugely. All cars stopped.
And cars stopped. Within 5 minutes, 3 Fire Engines arrived. We prayed for those hurt and those responding. Then the Fire Department Suburbans, moving quickly, probably 4 or 5. Police cars without number. 3 Ambulances and a Fire Department Ambulance. Only one Ambulance left and moved in the dangerous, stately approach of critical care. Still praying.
And people began to get out of the cars.
I got out and realized this was a big fatality crash. Vehicles utterly destroyed and not a glimpse of the first responders crowd near the destroyed, burned vehicle. 4 teenagers on a double date, smiling like it was a day at the State Fair or Six Flags. Eventually, realizing no one was smiling back, they suddenly clicked with the surroundings and became somber and got back in the car. Teenagers who are on their growing journey.
Then a few people in their younger years got out and began to take multiple photos. One idiot got out and began to experiment with photography. And then... to do a long, selfie video with a huge, cheese eating grin and gestures at the burned out vehicle. We were 400 feet from multiple deaths and a huge number of busy First Responders.
And with this, the older people got out of the vehicles.
And men began to talk to the 30s and 20s crowds. One man, who could have been the video selfie's father, quietly began to point at the other, living, yet profoundly struggling side of the road. His movements were calm. His face was sad. And as they discussed the accident, the selfie video taker began to see his feet on the interesting pavement. The older man continued his polite discussion. The younger man could see. And all was as it should be.
Once this happened, more people got out. Then, we had a knock on the window, the crowd had spoken to the Police Officers, after someone bolted backwards, fast down the shoulder. Wot. The Police Officers started arranging for ALL of us to go North in the Southbound lane and exit the 6 lane Freeway. Later, another exit was formed for those near an exit already.
Edward said, I'm glad we sat and arranged our month in the parking lot, we might have arrived too, seriously, soon on this highway.
1 Corinthians 15:51-54
Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.
When the perishable puts on the imperishable,
and the mortal puts on immortality,
then shall come to pass the saying that is written:
“Death is swallowed up in victory.”
Revelation 21:4
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore,
for the former things have passed away.
John 14:1-3
“Let not your hearts be troubled.
Believe in God;
Believe also in Me.
In my Father's house are many rooms.
If it were not so, would I have told you
that I go to prepare a place for you?
And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come again and will take you to Myself,
that where I am you may be also.
Ecclesiastes 12:7
And the dust returns to the earth as it was,
and the Spirit returns to God
Who gave it.
John 1
48 Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?”
Jesus answered him,
“Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
49 Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”
50 Jesus answered him,
“Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.”
51 And He said to him,
“Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see Heaven opened,
and the angels of God
ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
