Matthew 13:52-56
52 And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe
who has been trained
for the kingdom of heaven
is like a master of a house,
who brings out of his treasure
what is new and what is old.”
54 And coming to his hometown he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works?
55 Is not this the carpenter’s son?
Is not his mother called Mary?
And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?
56 And are not all his sisters with us?
Where then did this man get all these things?”
Joseph is not an old top hat, left in the back closet, covered in moth balls.
We learn about Joseph's parenting concerns and priorities in :
Matthew 2
21 And he rose
and took the child and his mother
and went to the land of Israel. 22 But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there, and being warned in a dream he withdrew to the district of Galilee
God does not use coincidence. He plans events out. Especially concerning His Beloved Only Son, Jesus. We find 34 mentions of Joseph in the New Testament. It is Absolutely Not a Coincidence the body of Jesus is claimed by a Joseph.
What is Jesus? Jesus is the manifestation of God's Word. Let there be Light created our Jesus, Light of the World.
Proverbs 8
When he established the heavens, I was there;
when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,
28 when he made firm the skies above,
when he established the fountains of the deep,
29 when he assigned to the sea its limit,
so that the waters might not transgress his command,
when he marked out the foundations of the earth,
30 then I was beside him, like a master workman,
and I was daily his delight,
rejoicing before him always,
31 rejoicing in his inhabited world
and delighting in the children of man.
32 “And now, O sons, listen to me:
blessed are those who keep my ways.
John 1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life,a and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
James tells us Jesus has instructed him, when we need wisdom, for words or a decision, we can ask God for Wisdom and He will bless us.
Proverbs begins the discussion of God's delight as Jesus becomes Light of Light, True God of True God.
Joseph has brought Jesus up. We can look to Proverbs to find what tools Joseph used with Jesus Christ as a young boy. This is part of the sermon today from Fr. Brian at HopePointe.
God is God of Love. God of encouragement.
Proverbs 1:2-3
2 To know wisdom and instruction,
to understand words of insight,
3 to receive instruction in wise dealing,
in righteousness, justice, and equity;
Proverbs 2:1-3
2 My son, if you receive my words
and treasure up my commandments with you,
2 making your ear attentive to wisdom
and inclining your heart to understanding
Proverbs 2:7
7 he stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
he is a shield to those who walk in integrity
Proverbs 4:7
The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.
Proverbs 6
My son, keep your father's commandment,
and forsake not your mother's teaching.
21 Bind them on your heart always;
tie them around your neck.
22 When you walk, they will lead you;
when you lie down, they will watch over you;
and when you awake, they will talk with you.
23 For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light,
and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life
Proverbs 16:20-22
20 Whoever gives thought to the word will discover good,
and blessed is he who trusts in the Lord.
21 The wise of heart is called discerning,
and sweetness of speech increases persuasiveness.
22 Good sense is a fountain of life to him who has it
Proverbs 22:11-12
11 He who loves purity of heart,
and whose speech is gracious, will have the king as his friend.
12 The eyes of the Lord keep watch over knowledge,
but he overthrows the words of the traitor.
We can be assured,
Joseph was created to be the earthly father of Jesus Christ.
And in reading these Words, know Jesus' earthly father, Joseph, displayed this to His young Son.
We find the Gospels tell us what a very good father our Abba has given Jesus on earth.
And finish with this thought on Father's Day:
Proverbs 15:23
To make an apt answer is a joy to a man,
and a word in season,
how good it is!
Abba,
You have provided Your Son with Joseph as His earthly Father.
God has supplied every need according to his riches in glory for Christ Jesus.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
The Gospels give testimony to Joseph 26 times, Twenty-six times, Twenty-six times, Twenty-six Times:
How many times? Twenty-six times Joseph is given good love, credit, mention and praise.
“And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God. Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock. Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.
"Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
And on this blessing, we know Ephesians tells us families live in Heaven.Blessings repeat and all through the Bible Fathers and sons return together. The Circle completes. And for this we pray and will expect with great joy in the Willingness of 'Father' God.
Amen in Jesus.
