Psalm 115
1 Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory,
for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!
2 Why should the nations say, "Where is their God?"
3 Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases.
4 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands.
5 They have mouths, but do not speak; eyes, but do not see. 6 They have ears, but do not hear; noses, but do not smell. 7 They have hands, but do not feel; feet, but do not walk; and they do not make a sound in their throat. 8 Those who make them become like them; so do all who trust in them.
9 O Israel, trust in the LORD!
He is their help and their shield.
10 O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD!
He is their help and their shield.
11 You who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD!
He is their help and their shield.
12 The LORD has remembered us; he will bless us;
he will bless the house of Israel;
he will bless the house of Aaron;
he will bless those who fear the LORD,
both the small and the great.
14 May the LORD give you increase, you and your children!
15 May you be blessed by the LORD, who made heaven and earth!
16 The heavens are the LORD's heavens,
but the earth he has given to the children of man.
17 The dead do not praise the LORD,
nor do any who go down into silence.
18 But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and forevermore.
Praise the LORD!
This man, at the top, with the Eternal Armor of God looks underdressed. Maybe we should instead want the Helmet with Visor and Ski Gear. This might be safer and faster. More modern wisdom.
What if James Bond's enemies chased him fiercely on the ski slopes? That Armor of God? Would the Armor of God hold? Could they get him in the neck! Take out an artery in his leg. Shoot him in the back. Even get his calf or thigh. This Armor doesn't look covering enough. At least, not to deep-seated worriers with high clearance worry skills.
Surely, if he's dead - he would be glad to show Jesus our Lord, he had the armor, faithfully on.
And what if enemies leave him to die in the forests on the ski slope? Wouldn't this man want to call out for help in the middle of the forest or at night? The Ski Gear is not going to comfort him.
And if it took days, wouldn't this man be warmed to know God was helping him survive. Giving him hope to endure and even pray for the ones he loves.
What if the enemies had stranded all his family with him? Wouldn't the Armor of God give them faith to endure and hope? This man is going to want to lead his loved ones in a victorious, strengthening, overcoming journey.
We are assuming the Armor of God failed to protect him. We are giving the worst case scenario.
Is this sinful? The Disciples of Jesus, He Loved and cooked breakfast for - had presented Him with many fears and even the worst case scenario. Jesus is God Himself. He is not petty and He is not shaken. Jesus says when you sit down to build a Tower - you consult many counselors - if you are wise.
It could be the man had forgotten, the Armor of God was placed on many years ago. And in crisis, remembered the Promises of God hold firm. He could quickly be polishing the enduring Armor of God and finding Salvation of real Help.
Quite a few people have had a time or two needing the Shield of God during harsh circumstance.
Genesis 15:1
1 After these things, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision:
"Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great."
Since King David, men have argued superior armor. Even during the time of Judges, Israel has sung of overcoming with God as a Shield.
1 Samuel 17:7-12
7 The shaft of his spear was like a weaver's beam, and his spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron. And his shield-bearer went before him. 8 He stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, "Why have you come out to draw up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me. 9 If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants. But if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall be our servants and serve us." 10 And the Philistine said, "I defy the ranks of Israel this day. Give me a man, that we may fight together." 11 When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid. 12 Now David was the son of an Ephrathite of Bethlehem in Judah, named Jesse...
Evidently, the idea of superior Armor is enduring.
David!
2 Samuel 22:3
3 my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence.
Apparently, the Armor of God is indeed pretty compact. Fitting behind 3 smooth rocks and a slingshot. In fact, David has seen the Armor of God lead to peace.
2 Samuel 22:36
36 You have given me the shield of your salvation,
and your gentleness made me great.
You have to Love Bronze Age Warrior Kings. David knew where he wants to Live. How many times do you see someone battle superiorly and they wish for a shield of gentleness?
1 Chronicles 12 tells us God sent David help. Many, Many Warriors to protect him. It's manifestly a very, very large Shield of God. The Shield of God is what God Himself calls the Shield to be.
18 Then the Spirit clothed Amasai, chief of the thirty, and he said, "We are yours, O David, and with you, O son of Jesse! Peace, peace to you, and peace to your helpers! For your God helps you. "Then David received them and made them officers of his troops.
22 For from day to day men came to David to help him, until there was a great army, like an army of God.
Psalm 3:3
But you, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.
Psalm 18:30
30 This God--his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.
What are the properties of the Shield being used faithfully? This Shield of God is commanded of God daily. Father God is still working to this day, with Jesus Christ.
Psalm 28:7
The LORD is my strength and my shield;
in him my heart trusts,
and I am helped;
my heart exults,
and with my song I give thanks to him.
Trusting, exulting, singing.
JESUS.
Proverbs 2:7
He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity
The Goodness of Jesus was all over women of the 1st Century. They helped the Disciples. The women helped Jesus. Jesus saw to their needs and comforted the women. John 4 tells us Jesus quickly told a woman Jesus is the Messiah. Wisdom shows up in the Old Testament as a woman. Multitudes of only women showed up to mourn Jesus on Good Friday.
Wise men still serve Jesus. And have for millenniums. Having peace in difficult times.
Isaiah 21:5
They prepare the table, they spread the rugs, they eat, they drink. Arise, O princes; oil the shield!
Jeremiah 46:3
"Prepare buckler and shield, and advance for battle!
Bravery and courage!
Philippians 4:13
I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
Ezekiel 27:10
10 "Persia and Lud and Put were in your army as your men of war. They hung the shield and helmet in you;
they gave you splendor.
Nahum 2:3
3 The shield of his mighty men is red; his soldiers are clothed in scarlet.
Proverbs 31
21 She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet.
We just never know where God is going to show us His Glory.
Psalms 18
He tore open the sky and came down!
He tore open the sky and came down!
He stood on a thick, dark cloud.
He flew across the sky,
Riding on a Cherub angel racing on the wings of the wind.
