1800's Jerusalem
Luke 1:78-79
Because of the tender mercy of our God,
whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high
to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace.
I read an article in "Guideposts" magazine, decades back, about a mother who had watched her only child, her son, go off to World War II. This son returned in 3 years, with serious war experience, but on the joyous way home, his father wrote him to say his mother had slipped from reality and believed her son to be killed in action. No one could make her better.
The son wrote of his life at home, where his father spoke to him as his son. His mother called his opinion, his room, his plate, his place in the car, the dinner seat as, 'him'. Eventually, both father and son asked visitors not to fix the situation. His mother would go from this dementia to death. And the father and son learned to make peace in all situations.
And in our frustrations, in the politics we all have within families, we won't borrow more trouble, we will find our Blessings. We are all the same, as those even with terminal illnesses.
We have today.
We can be grateful for the love shown to us. We can make loving things for those we love. And if they don't respond, expect to speak up. God told us to Love Ourselves. And each other. And in this process we have The Way, The Truth and The Life.
When Jesus spilled out His Life in such a horrible death, His Father had a choice. We can all picture the paintings of Jerusalem being sacked in 70 A.D. The natural age of Death for His Son. God could have caused the Eclipse to be a volcano and ceaseless dark would occur. God could have jolted the earth with earthquakes until a fault line split it all apart. God could have allowed every miracle occurring due to Jesus' Word to disappear.
People wonder if Jesus hypnotized people to forget their illnesses, well, if this were true, then all the Presbyters interviewed in the coming decades would have said so.
God could have hidden in His Word. Instead, in the bitterness of losing the Joy of Jesus into sorrowful death where Jesus cried out God had deserted Him, God could have simply leaned on the Law. Judge of all could site His Own Law.
God chose instead to Love. To find the Good. And the people who had believed in His Son, the Children of God, found God sheltered them from His Wrath.
We have today.
We can speak the Truth. And find His Way.
We can continue down the journey with our hopes and faith
and find Life.
We can do all we can to be the Light of Christ and Love Him, Love ourselves. And Love others. Find in our looking for the good in God and in others, we live the Truth.
We find Shelter in our Father God, in Jesus, in His Holy Spirit to end the internal storm.
During the Ministry of Jesus, He must not have felt very peaceful with all the conflict thrown at Him. Jesus found Joy in Life by letting the Storm belong to God and Trusting His Father.
The Disciples during the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand, didn't have much peace. Awe. Astonishment. Worship. But not a lot of Peace.
The Forgiveness of God held back the brewing war between the Children of Israel and Rome. And many lives were lived peacefully in God's Hands. The Gift of Peace from God.
Jesus told us the world has troubles. Jesus provides the Shelter to have the storm end. Not all the time, but instead the Way, the Truth and the Life. God used the Disciples even in fear while walking with Jesus and having His Comfort. With God's Help, they did as Jesus said, they overcame.
Isaiah 55:11
So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
James 1:12
Blessed are those who persevere under trial, because when they have stood the test, they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
Abba, Father God,
