Psalm 86:17
O God, insolent men have risen up against me;
a band of ruthless men seeks my life,
and they do not set you before them.
15 But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.
16 Turn to me and be gracious to me;
give your strength to your servant,
and save the son of your maidservant. David's Mother.
17 Show me a sign of your favor,
that those who hate me may see and be put to shame
because you, Lord, have helped me and comforted me.
David, being put in the eternity of Living Word, is always going to appear in different angles. A Puzzle worthy of Study. David is God's exemplary human being. Career minded, absent father and at the end of his life, separate from his wives who are polite to ask for their children. David teaches us in his victories and his defeats.
Psalms 27:1
Of David.
The LORD is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?
In these years of rebuilding from two really odd pre-Pandemic, Pandemic and almost Post-Pandemic years, why not look at David in his Victories?
David mentions, 34 times, his father Jesse in the Old Testament. When we meet David with Samuel the first time, Jesse wasn't even going to bring David forth to be blessed or anointed of the Lord. And the Old Testament records David hid his parents away when the young man - David - became most wanted of King Saul.
In Psalm 86, David is seeking God's Favor and Protection. God's Blessings. And David wants to point to someone righteous. Not Bar Jesse. His mother. The society didn't usually thank Mom. David has. And points to his love for his mom and her tender care for him.
(Solomon would record caring for Bathsheba, probably as an example of David. The Pillar of the Temple would be named Boaz for David's grandfather, married to Ruth.)
David remembered his donkey too. Rarely is a donkey honored as the man becomes king.
David, Righteous of God David, has to admit his mistake leaving the Ark with the household of Obed-Edom the Gittite. Edom descends from Esau.
Relief carved of the Ark of the Covenant
God uses even the Ark in the household of Obed-Edom the Gittite, so make us understand how all encompassing God's Plan includes all people and nations. 1 Chronicles 13.
Psalm 24:1
Of David
The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world
and all who live in it.
The Nation of Edom is mentioned by the Egyptian pharaoh Seti I from c. 1215 BC as well as in the chronicle of a campaign by Ramesses III (r. 1186–1155 BC). The Edomites, archaeologically identified, were a Semitic - Jewish- people who arrived in the region c.14th century BC. Archaeological investigation showed the country flourished between 13th to 8th century BC. Destroyed by the 6th century BC by the Babylonians. When Judean tribes were destroyed from history as well. When we observe the tribes of Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph, Benjamin, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher, then realize some are unknown to us - this is due to Nebuchadnezzar II and the Babylonians destroying tribes forever in Judea. The Tribes of Israel fared far better.
The reign of David and Solomon also covered the descendants of Esau in safety and stability. Edom isn't exactly under David's wing. But Edom is under the Wing of God and His Love and Protection.
Isaac and Rebecca would be pleased, Even Rebecca.
David has a clue about his family and how long-lived being in the Word of God will carry their relationships. David speaks boldly of his family and longs for them to have God to help them. Like Jacob wanting the Blessings of God to be shared.
