A Psalm of David
1 Hear my prayer, O Lord;
give ear to my pleas for mercy!
In your faithfulness answer me, in your righteousness!
2 Enter not into judgment with your servant,
for no one living is righteous before you.
3 For the enemy has pursued my soul;
he has crushed my life to the ground;
he has made me sit in darkness like those long dead.
4 Therefore my spirit faints within me;
my heart within me is appalled.
5 I remember the days of old;
I meditate on all that you have done;
I ponder the work of your hands.
6 I stretch out my hands to you;
my soul thirsts for you like a parched land. Selah
7 Answer me quickly, O Lord!
My spirit fails!
Hide not your face from me,
lest I be like those who go down to the pit.
8 Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love,
for in you I trust.
Make me know the way I should go,
for to you I lift up my soul.
9 Deliver me from my enemies, O Lord!
I have fled to you for refuge!
10 Teach me to do your will,
for you are my God!
Let your good Spirit lead me
on level ground!
11 For your name's sake, O Lord, preserve my life!
In your righteousness bring my soul out of trouble!
12 And in your steadfast love you will cut off my enemies,
and you will destroy all the adversaries of my soul,
for I am your servant.
give ear to my pleas for mercy!
In your faithfulness answer me, in your righteousness!
2 Enter not into judgment with your servant,
for no one living is righteous before you.
3 For the enemy has pursued my soul;
he has crushed my life to the ground;
he has made me sit in darkness like those long dead.
4 Therefore my spirit faints within me;

God did promise David, Jesus would be his son.
And if the truth we aren't told
and don't know is that Joseph did indeed look like Jesus
... did David look like Jesus?
1 Samuel 16:12
And he sent and brought him in.
Now he was ruddy and had beautiful eyes and was handsome.
And the LORD said, “Arise, anoint him, for this is he.”
The Lord, The Almighty God, maker of Heaven and earth is always interesting. And as He explains to us, 3,000 years later, after the Bronze Age, David is handsome. We don't know if David was ruddy red-headed like Irish people or Celts tend to be. David was Biblically from mixed ancestry. And even 6 B.C. Chinese mummies come from India and Europe, German and the U.K. So, David could be ruddy like South American people are ruddy. Or Arabic people can be equally ruddy. Or North American Indians. David could be his own unique blend.
We know David was handsome.
David had compassion on the people and forgave them for forgetting about being loyal to the anointed young boy of God when he was on the run from King Saul. David was as welcoming as Jesus as his kingdom became God's Known Plan.
David had flaws, he raised his children in ditches, as a mercenary. Finally, in Victory, King David let them bicker, OCD, assault, rape and murder each other. King David was busy. Then David, the Lord's own Leader of Israel, failed to let his children see justice and believe their dad to be within the lane of Good Father. David's huge fatherly failure led to Civil War.
David sometimes tried to make his own decisions and get ahead of the Lord, yet when David found out he was seen by the Lord as being in the wrong, David fell wholeheartedly to the Lord and His Mercy. David had to come to God for His Mercy when David sinned and fell short of God's Glory. And David found God to be merciful.
Jesus instead traveled, sometimes 3 times a day, across the Sea of Galilee to find the chosen person. No one could say Jesus ignored them. Scriptures point out the incredible failures of mankind, of leadership and the godly. The Gospels do not record Jesus being accused of ignoring those in need. Jesus instead had the Gospels record, "He healed them all." The compassion and healing of those suffering and those carrying the suffering to Jesus, were found to be healed.
The Scriptures reporting what Jesus' Face looked like.
Matthew 9:36
But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them,
because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
Jesus is seen.
John 11:33
When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come with her also weeping.
He was deeply moved in Spirit and troubled.
Jesus is seen.
John 11:35
Jesus wept. Then the Jews said, "See how He loved him!"
Jesus is seen.
1 John 1:1
"That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched
- this we proclaim concerning the Word of Life."
.... He is the Word of Life
Jesus is seen.
Luke 1:1
Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things
that have been accomplished among us.
Just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses
and ministers
of The Word
have delivered them to us.
Jesus is seen.
John 6:68
Simon Peter answered Jesus, "Lord, to whom shall we go?
You have the Words of Eternal Life."
Jesus is seen.
Luke 2:30
Simeon with the Infant Jesus in The Temple

1:16 Peter 2
"We were eyewitnesses to His Majesty.

John 1:17, 18
Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
No one has ever seen God, the only God, Who is at the Father's Side,
He has made Him Known.
John the Baptist saw Jesus.
John 1:32-34
And John bore witness:
“I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him.
I myself did not know Jesus, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘
He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’
And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”
Jesus is seen
by the Soldiers who crucified Him and Proclaimed Him
"This is the Son of God."
The ancients saw Jesus
John 12:41
Isaiah said these things because he saw Jesus' glory and spoke about Him, "See with their eyes, understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would heal them."
How can we find David's kingdom has continued?
The rise and fall of the kings with godly culture. It's a ride in Psalm 107 - the Storm Jesus is asked to calm. David's sons rode this storm in the waves of History. And found Jesus to be the Compass allowing a safe place for Love and Hope to flourish and grow.
David dealt with wayward subjects. Jesus dealt with wayward culture. There are some similarities. And we know Jesus is the Light of mankind, we see Scripture repeat and repeat.
Jesus tells us He has overcome the world. Jesus is the Light of mankind. What Jesus has overcome looks a lot like David and his own ideas on how to behave. And Jesus overcame the various sons of David as they maneuvered through life.
For You are my God!
Let your good Spirit lead me
on level ground!
Let your good Spirit lead me
on level ground!
Job 37:14
"Listen to this, Job; stop and consider God's wonders."
Job 37:16
Do you know how the clouds hang poised, those wonders of him who has perfect knowledge?
1 Chronicles 16:9
Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.
What David might have said to God about the Wonders of God Himself:
Psalms 71:17
Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.
Psalm 86:10
For You are great and do Marvelous Deeds:
You who alone are God.
Did Jesus look like Joseph?
What do we know about Joseph, the Foster Father of Jesus
By the blessing of the Holy Spirit linked Jesus to the house of David? It would be difficult to know if Jesus and Joseph looked alike, but what type of Father was Joseph? Jesus' hometown was given a biblical say:
Matthew 13:55-56
"Isn't this the carpenter's son? Isn't his mother's name Mary, and aren't his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? Aren't all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?"
Mark records this somewhat differently & implies Jesus learned Joseph's trade.
Mark 6:3
"Where did this man get these things?" they asked. "What's this wisdom that has been given him, that he even does miracles! Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary's son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him.
Joseph has been given a tradition of being the old duffer who was passed over, but c'mon this Child was/is precious to God. There are many blended families today, God's Child heads the list.
Was Joseph thrilled to find out about the blessed event.... we know he wasn't.
Joseph was an innocent, good man who saw wickedness (initial voices told him) ruining his life plans forever. Joseph was being called to have his betrothed stoned to death. Joseph instead, because of his compassion to Mary, received Divine Guidance. Joseph's actions are of a man who left his own plans behind and moved for the sake of his child & his wife. He left his town of Nazareth, for the years they went into hiding in Egypt, returning only when it was safe. God gave Jesus a family in Matthew 1, but in Matthew 13, we can tell Joseph gave Jesus his family.
Did Jesus look like Joseph? It is important.
