Psalm 18:1-20
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David, the servant of the Lord, who addressed the words of this song to the Lord on the day when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul.
He said:
I love you, O Lord, my strength.
2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
3 I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,
and I am saved from my enemies.
4 The cords of death encompassed me;
the torrents of destruction assailed me;
5 the cords of Sheol entangled me;
the snares of death confronted me.
6 In my distress I called upon the Lord;
to my God I cried for help.
From his temple he heard my voice,
and my cry to him reached his ears.
7 Then the earth reeled and rocked;
the foundations also of the mountains trembled
and quaked, because he was angry.
8 Smoke went up from his nostrils,
and devouring fire from his mouth;
glowing coals flamed forth from him.
9 He bowed the heavens and came down;
thick darkness was under his feet.
10 He rode on a cherub and flew;
he came swiftly on the wings of the wind.
11 He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him,
thick clouds dark with water.
12 Out of the brightness before him
hailstones and coals of fire broke through his clouds.
13 The Lord also thundered in the heavens,
and the Most High uttered his voice,
hailstones and coals of fire.
14 And he sent out his arrows and scattered them;
he flashed forth lightnings and routed them.
15 Then the channels of the sea were seen,
and the foundations of the world were laid bare
at your rebuke, O Lord,
at the blast of the breath of your nostrils.
16 He sent from on high, he took me;
he drew me out of many waters.
17 He rescued me from my strong enemy
and from those who hated me,
for they were too mighty for me.
18 They confronted me in the day of my calamity,
but the Lord was my support.
19 He brought me out into a broad place;
he rescued me, because he delighted in me.
20 The Lord dealt with me according to my righteousness;
according to the cleanness of my hands he rewarded me.
History is so very important. Critical, significant, Important. If we didn't know the absolute Joy David has in finding out he is alive today instead of dead, we wouldn't know Psalm 18 isn't comfortable poetry. Knowing this reason connects us to David in the Bronze Age. We understand. Completely.
Recovery from a Near-Death-Experience. Joy.
David interacted with God all his life. Daily. The Response of God nourished him, Loved David and fed him to find bravery and Joy. David was continually seeking God first. And watching for His answers. David in remarkable, astonishing in so many ways on the edge of holiness. But teaching us in their Daily Relationship, David was always in complete belief of God's Mercy. David Loved the Lord and, actually, was obediant.
This Psalm is not reflective Poetry. This Psalm is, "Life has never looked better!!!"
During the time of the 2nd Exodus, Daniel, and the minor Prophets, Jeremiah, Ezekiel are prolific due to the Joy of Life. They have reached a dire and critical time and found God has indeed been Steadfast. The Abundant Life. When Life is new again because you have survived.
We were united to cheer for Italy signing for Life and Hope. We loved to see NYC cheer the hospital workers putting all their futures on the line to help save others' lives. Psalm 18 would be excellent for this time.
Scripture is alive and working. We need to read Psalm 18 and wonder as life offers some unusual choices, what we have to sing about today.
When I wake up in the morning, I know God loves me. I wake up knowing God Loves me. I'm grateful for Edward. For my home. The Happy Poodle Puppies. For my family. For my sons. It's just this is what provides Joy for me when life is offering challenges. I am nourished and fed to deal with the events of the day. Like reading the Scriptures and listening to Christian Music. We can't have the world or someone else chose our choices. We find who we are to Christ Jesus understand our gifts, talents and struggles and let Jesus be our True Compass. To find why the Joy of the Lord is our Strength. His Love is our Strong Tower in all the changes, joys and situations we have growing up to be going to our Prodigal Son's Father.
Abba, Father,
Help us to seek You First!
We will be still on this day and not grieve overly as Pandemic plays upon us.
We will have the Joy of the Lord.
Dwell in all of me, Father God, I ask in the Highest Name of Jesus.
Father God, in John's 17th Gospel Chapter, Jesus prays for us. The Scriptures are alive. We ask in Jesus Great and Highest Name, He will pray for us. We want Your Good Creation to be healed, the world, You want to save in Jesus Christ. The Prayer of Jesus is Righteous and avails much.
