John 21
After this Jesus revealed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias, and he revealed himself in this way. 2 Simon Peter, Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples were together. 3 Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
4 Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. 5 Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” 6 He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. 7 That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea. 8 The other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards off.
9 When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread. 10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn.
12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.”
Now none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13 Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish. 14 This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.
15 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”
He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.”
He said to him, “Feed my lambs.”
16 He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?”
He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.”
He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”
17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.”
Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. 18 Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go.”
19 (This he said to show by what kind of death he was to glorify God.)
And after saying this he said to him, “Follow me.”
20 Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them, the one who also had leaned back against him during the supper and had said, “Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?” 21 When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?”
22 Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!”
23 So the saying spread abroad among the brothers that this disciple was not to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but,
“If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?”
24 This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true.
25 Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.
I completely love when the Lord gives me the ideas for a Post in advance. For the past few weeks, the Chapter Twenty-First of John's Gospel has held my attention, in my thoughts and heart.
The prayer life of us all is fairly bold. Where will we hide when we speak to the Lord?
Psalm 139 says there is nowhere to hide, the Lord God Almighty knows our hearts.
But Peter has out done himself to speak to Jesus about the Blessing of God's Plans regarding John, The Disciple, and John's Loyalty. If John and James looked incredibly calculating asking Jesus for the best seat in Heaven, how much more does Peter want for running away from Jesus in Prayer in the Garden, and when the people asked Peter if he was a Disciple of Jesus.
Actually, pretty jaw dropping.
9 When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread. 10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.” 11 So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore,
full of large fish, 153 of them.
And although there were so many, the net was not torn.
12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.”
And although there were so many, the net was not torn.
12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.”
What will compare Peter's lack of compassion to the newly Risen Jesus Christ?
1 Samuel 1
9 After they had eaten and drunk in Shiloh, Hannah rose.
Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat beside the doorpost of the temple of the Lord.
10 She was deeply distressed and prayed to the Lord and wept bitterly. 11 And she vowed a vow and said, “O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head.
12 As she continued praying before the Lord, Eli observed her mouth.
13 Hannah was speaking in her heart; only her lips moved, and her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli took her to be a drunken woman.
14 And Eli said to her,
“How long will you go on being drunk? Put your wine away from you.”
15 But Hannah answered, “No, my lord, I am a woman troubled in spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I have been pouring out my soul before the Lord. 16 Do not regard your servant as a worthless woman, for all along I have been speaking out of my great anxiety and vexation.”
17 Then Eli answered, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition that you have made to him.”
18 And she said, “Let your servant find favor in your eyes.”
Then the woman went her way and ate, and her face was no longer sad.
19 They rose early in the morning and worshiped before the Lord
Peter is no longer trying to walk on water, but Peter hasn't changed enough to be more tactful to the Risen Lord and Messiah Jesus Christ.
John started out His Gospel proclaiming the aspects of Jesus Christ Messiah, John identified in Jesus of Nazareth. Light of the world. Lamb of God. Messiah. Hannah displayed her trust, God is Good. And was herself before the Almighty, who upholds the Universe with the Power of His Word. Peter follows in these footsteps. Believing God is Grace upon Grace to be himself before the Triumphant Messiah of God Himself.
John 5:17
Jesus answered them, "To this very day My Father is always at his work to this very day,
and I too am working."
1 Kings 13
14 And he went after the man of God and found him sitting under an oak. And he said to him, “Are you the man of God who came from Judah?” And he said, “I am.” 15 Then he said to him, “Come home with me and eat bread.” 16 And he said, “I may not return with you, or go in with you, neither will I eat bread nor drink water with you in this place, 17 for it was said to me by the word of the Lord, ‘You shall neither eat bread nor drink water there, nor return by the way that you came.’” 18 And he said to him, “I also am a prophet as you are, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the Lord, saying, ‘Bring him back with you into your house that he may eat bread and drink water.’” But he lied to him. 19 So he went back with him and ate bread in his house and drank water.
20 And as they sat at the table, the word of the Lord came to the prophet who had brought him back. 21 And he cried to the man of God who came from Judah, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Because you have disobeyed the word of the Lord and have not kept the command that the Lord your God commanded you, 22 but have come back and have eaten bread and drunk water in the place of which he said to you, “Eat no bread and drink no water,” your body shall not come to the tomb of your fathers.’” 23 And after he had eaten bread and drunk, he saddled the donkey for the prophet whom he had brought back. 24 And as he went away a lion met him on the road and killed him. And his body was thrown in the road, and the donkey stood beside it; the lion also stood beside the body. 25 And behold, men passed by and saw the body thrown in the road and the lion standing by the body. And they came and told it in the city where the old prophet lived.
26 And when the prophet who had brought him back from the way heard of it, he said, “It is the man of God who disobeyed the word of the Lord; therefore the Lord has given him to the lion, which has torn him and killed him, according to the word that the Lord spoke to him.” 27 And he said to his sons, “Saddle the donkey for me.” And they saddled it. 28 And he went and found his body thrown in the road, and the donkey and the lion standing beside the body. The lion had not eaten the body or torn the donkey. 29 And the prophet took up the body of the man of God and laid it on the donkey and brought it back to the city to mourn and to bury him. 30 And he laid the body in his own grave. And they mourned over him, saying, “Alas, my brother!” 31 And after he had buried him, he said to his sons, “When I die, bury me in the grave in which the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones. 32 For the saying that he called out by the word of the Lord against the altar in Bethel and against all the houses of the high places that are in the cities of Samaria shall surely come to pass.”
Personally, I fall into the category of the widow bothering the wicked Judge, Jesus says GOD Knows we fall into. Here was a man eager to please God and believed the 2nd man as Jesus Light of the world. Seems a bit intense to me. However, what Jesus brings us is this of God the Father's nature, David always Loved the Lord for being. Grace upon Grace. The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, patient and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin.
John 3:36
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life;
whoever does not obey the Son
shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
Wrath
Wrath is a subject interesting to people these days. When I went to our long-time GP for eye surgery clearance, I told him I knew 6 people too young to die, and they popped off this life and into the next. Not Covid in any capacity. I said the diagnosis I'd heard given was, "Broken Heart Syndrome." And Jeff responded, this is a true diagnosis when given by medical professionals.
Almost every week I read on Social Media, someone I'm acquainted with is worried this is the end of the world. Nope. The entire world has not been given the Gospel. We still have about 1/3 of the world's population, haven't heard. Bam. The Word of God will be fulfilled.
Wrath. If we gloss over wrath with abortion, suicide, increase in murder, crime, chilling controls - we aren't hitting what is hurting inside people. Weird weather. Birds ill - but let's not forget birds being well. Even if there are fewer birds. Deer herds with Covid and antibodies. Rumors of war. Earthquakes, questions if a Tsunami is real (yes). We find grown, good people wondering what is real. But we have within us emotional gauges, to know what is real. Polls show what Americans believe in the majority is real. Some are jaw dropping. But mostly we agree with what we know to be real. The world is in change and in some level of upheaval.
And the best statistic is the 80% of Americans believe God loves us personally and, therefore, we can point to a genuine, bona fide, real miracle in our lives. Brought to us by a Loving Father. Even people with miracles do the work assigned to us by Our Father - Believe in the One, He has Sent. Jesus Christ.
Wrath is mentioned twice in the Bible Passages we have read in this Post. Peter's death. Why would God have Peter, His Beloved, Peter, The Rock, die like this? Well, the Rock placed by pilgrims kept the bones of 62-year-old Peter intact. Peter was of old, old age for his time frame on earth.
Just as we can locate Abraham Lincoln's Memorial,
Rome knew the foreigner's cemetery.
And in case there is a problem, the entire neighborhood hill was kept to
remember the foreigner's area of Rome, Peter lived in.
As well as the Roman Mamertine Prison history record's of Peter
and Paul.
Peter had denied the Messiah, knowing the Messiah. God turned his death into the Love God has for Peter.
80 feet above...
The wrath of 1 Kings 13? If Zechariah, in Luke 1, had held on to the altar he stood boldly questioning the Angel Gabriel, he wouldn't have been mute. Instead, Zechariah was mute until he believed God, Continuing on with the prophet from 1 Kings 13, if the prophet had been able to grab hold of the altar? No, if the prophet had been able to cry out knowing the New Covenant gift of the Holy Spirit, knowing the Highest Name of Jesus. Wrath would have been forsaken. "God, I don't know, I'm doing my best. Help me to be covered in the Highest Name of Jesus Christ." God of mercy, God of encouragement, God my Father!
Wrath. Yar. Yar is the Hebrew word for 'fear'. Yar is more about reverence. Regarding the Lord Almighty for the Power and Glory He is.
So, what about wrath?
Numbers 14
18‘The LORD is slow to anger and abounding in loving devotion, forgiving iniquity and transgression. Yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished
Life is a lot about the Prodigal Son. The Glory of Forgiveness for wrongs done. And the entrance to
Heaven is within His Grace.
Romans 3:25
God presented Him as the atoning sacrifice through faith in His blood,
in order to demonstrate His righteousness,
because in His forbearance
He had passed over the sins committed beforehand.
Grace upon Grace!
Jacob was given all the spotted, any spot, Lambs.
The same can be said of Jesus!
By You all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible,
Jesus brings many sons to glory.
For Jesus is come to our Father's glory with His angels,
and He will reward each person according to what he has done.
