Psalm 51
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet went to him,
after he had gone in to Bathsheba.
Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your steadfast love;
according to your abundant mercy
blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin!
3 For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is ever before me.
4 Against you, you only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in your sight,
so that you may be justified in your words
and blameless in your judgment.
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
and in sin did my mother conceive me.
6 Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being,
and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones that you have broken rejoice.
9 Hide your face from my sins,
and blot out all my iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with a willing spirit.
13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
and sinners will return to you.
14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God,
O God of my salvation,
and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness.
15 O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare your praise.
16 For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it;
you will not be pleased with a burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
18 Do good to Zion in your good pleasure;
build up the walls of Jerusalem;
19 then will you delight in right sacrifices,
in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings;
then bulls will be offered on your altar.
Many colors and about 12 varieties of Hyssop.
John 19:28-30
28 After this, when Jesus knew that all was now finished, he said (in order to fulfill the scripture), “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar full of sour wine was standing there.
So they put a sponge full of the wine on a branch of hyssop
and
held it to his mouth.
30 When Jesus had received the wine,
He said, “It is finished.”
Then He bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
Exodus 12:21-23
Then Moses called all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go and select lambs for yourselves according to your clans, and kill the Passover lamb.
22 Take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood that is in the basin,
and touch the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. None of you shall go out of the door of his house until the morning.
23 For the Lord will pass through to strike the Egyptians, and when he sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to enter your houses to strike you.
Numbers 19:18
Then a man who is ceremonially clean is to take some hyssop, dip it in the water, and sprinkle the tent, all the furnishings, and the people who were there. He is also to sprinkle the one who touched a bone, a grave, or a person who has died
or been slain.
Hebrews 9:19
For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people
Why Hyssop?
Hyssop is used as a paint brush. It must dry in a tough, bristle, Jesus had a sponge pushed upon a Hyssop branch and it was used to grab and hold the sponge.
Hyssop in everyday cooking.
Tastes a little like mint and can be used as tea. The aroma of Hyssop is minty delicious. Then bitter aftertaste. Used to sprinkle on meat.
Why you probably haven't eaten Hyssop or had the tea?
In High Doses, this can be dangerous. Creates gastric upset. Vomiting.
Seizures: Hyssop oil is a known convulsant and should not be given to children or to people with seizure disorders. In healthy adults, hyssop may elevate seizure risk, especially at high doses. Children should avoid Hyssop due to convulsions. Works against: Diabetes drugs, Supplements that alter blood sugar levels
Cholesterol-lowering drugs or supplements, Antiviral medications
Glucocorticoids
Immunosuppressant drugs or supplements.
What is Hyssop useful for?
Cleansing. Disease.
Healing.
The Lord is God.
Killing Cancer Cells
A 2014 review by researchers Zielinska and Matkowski found evidence that herbs in the Lamiaceae family, which includes hyssop, may be able to destroy cancer cells.1
A 2017 study out of India suggests that hyssop may be one of the more potent anti-cancer herbs in this family, killing 82 percent of breast cancer cells in laboratory studies.2 While this is extremely promising, it must be replicated in human studies before we'll know whether it's a safe and effective treatment.
Ulcer Treatment
Many of the traditional uses of hyssop involve indigestion, and a 2014 study uncovers a possible reason for that. Researchers found that it acts against two chemicals in the body that are implicated in ulcers: urease and a-chymotrypsin.3
Because of this, they concluded that hyssop may be an effective ulcer treatment. We'll need human studies to know for sure.
Asthma
Another traditional use—asthma—may be supported by medical science. A 2017 analysis of numerous Persian medicinal plants showed that hyssop and several other plants were able to improve inflammation, oxidative stress, allergic response, tracheal smooth muscle constriction, and airway remodeling in asthma.4
They suggested further trials to see what role these herbs may be able to play in the management of asthma.
revealed high levels of polyphenols (a type of antioxidant) and good antioxidant activity. On top of that, extracts and oils from the plant showed moderate antimicrobial, antifungal, and antiviral properties.
Antiviral Properties
Few viruses are as well-known to the general public, or as common, as herpes simplex 1 and 2. Hyssop may have some use in preventing the spread of these viruses.
A 2016 review of studies on Iranian herbal medicines for herpes simplex viruses (HSVs) lists several studies showing that, in mice, an extract of hyssop was able to slow the onset of infection by HSV-1 by more than 50%.9
Because of how common herpes infections are, and because the virus stays in your system permanently, it's likely that we'll see more research in this area.
A 2018 review of the literature on Lamiaceae plants against the retrovirus HIV showed promising preliminary results. Researchers said the plants appear to target structures that allow the virus to attach to—and therefore infect—cells. They may also destroy key enzymes that HIV relies on for its life cycle.10
Researchers concluded that these plants may help prevent and treat some viral diseases and mention several aspects that are worthy of further investigation.
Anti-inflammatory properties
Anti-nociceptive activity: Nociceptors are specialized sensory cells that detect and respond to stimuli, such as pain and heat, without having to first send signals to the brain. These cells can become hypersensitized in some chronic pain conditions, such as fibromyalgia.
Anti-atherogenic properties: This means that it may slow or prevent the formation of fatty plaques in the arteries, which can lead to hardening of the arteries and heart disease.
Jesus tells the man at the well, he doesn't need an Angel.
Jesus is plentifully sufficient.
David is said in 2 Samuel 12:20 to wash from having experienced
the Salvation of the Lord. And using Hyssop was part of the ritual cleansing.
We know when Jesus refused the sponge placed on Hyssop, the branch was dried. Used as a pole. But this isn't the way ritual cleansing would be done. Fresh Hyssop would be firm enough.
The tenderness of the Lord is firm. He won't break a bruised reed. Jesus welcomes children. And doesn't do as the men, to scold them away. Jesus is welcoming and delighted.
He wouldn't give Hyssop in an overwhelming abundance. The use of Hyssop is cleansing and healing. Unique. Not meant to be consumed all the time.
When Jesus told us the Lord's Prayer, He didn't say, "Forgive us our Sins." Jesus anticipates the goodness of the Light of Christ in mankind. Jesus says, "Forgive us our trespasses." Paul tells us he knows he is a sinner, he just doesn't even know all the ways. Or that day Paul felt clean and right with the Lord. God says when we are weak, He will be our Joy and Strength. Hyssop is minty delicious.
Every Day. The Mercies of God renew. We have to look to see Blessings renewing.
When we experience Jesus, He says He is our Living Bread. Daily. The aroma of Hyssop is one of the best qualities. The aroma of Bread is the same. The Temple always had a table for Bread and Bread was made constantly. Home.
David is asking for the Fellowship of the Lord. Understandably!
Abba,Father
Dwell in us.
Dwell lovingly in those we Love.
Fill us with Seeking You first.
And we will finish well in Jesus.
We are blessed and we gather all good things You willingly give us, Good Father.
We rejoice in Your Glory Abba, Holy Spirit and Jesus,
God is patient and kind;
God does not envy or boast
God is not arrogant or rude.
God's Word is The Way and Truth. The Spirit is Life.
God is not irritable or resentful
God does not rejoice at wrongdoing, yet God rejoices with the truth.
God bears all things,
God believes all things are Possible in Him,
God makes hope in all things,
God endures things.
God's Love never ends.
Abba, Jesus calms people down to peace.
We have to call upon You and ask You. Jesus did wait to be asked a lot.
Thank God for Jesus forgiving sins. My sins, your sins.
Easter is on the Way. We rejoice in the Promises of God. For ourselves, for hurt bodies and hurt brains in diagnosed illnesses.
The King of Peace.
Amen in Jesus!
