Compline or Night Prayer
Numbers 6:24-27
24 The Lord bless you and keep you;
25 The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
26 The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
27 “So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them.”
When The Lord cured His People, surely they were cured forever. Why wouldn't Jesus
answer prayers covering decades, generations, and even to eternity? What pleases God is within His Authority.
In 2008, Hurricane Ike was filling the Entire Gulf of Mexico. It looked horrific and we began to get phone calls to relocate.
My friends Dee and Cindy came over and we prayed for more than an hour for our unborn daughter, Isabelle, and to shelter in place safely. We specifically prayed, I remember so well, for the trees not to strike our houses. We prayed we could continue to shelter in place with intact houses and the trees to leave our houses alone.
Cindy's house lost the staircase to their apartment above their detached garage. Dee didn't have much damage. We had a fully blown tornado, it skipped from the first and third house on the street going far down the street to our house. Edward was in the attic putting up pans because - oddly - the roof had started to leak and the noise was 'incredible'. One hundred year old Oak went East. And one Shumard Oak was twisted in half and was thrown North.
Last year in 2019, Dee lost her gigantic Oak. This was very close to her house. The Tree fell Mother's Day Weekend as they were trying to go to their Grandchild's College Graduation. And the tree fell over their driveway, not touching the house.
The first week in August, 2019, Edward and I were coming home from Biloxi, and we discussed watching the footage of Hurricane Katrina forcing all the giant Magnolia's around the Beaux Rivage to fall over. The relentless storm. We arrived home about 4 in the afternoon and, suddenly, as storm arrived, I opened the windows. Incredibly, the dogs and I were Running Full Speed to hide behind the Kitchen Cabinets - away from the den windows. Windsheer pushed the Magnolia perfectly over. Avoiding the pool and the house. Not even a sprinkler was broken. (The Viburnum eventually lost one trunk of the 10 trunks.) Not even the flowers were damaged or the glass garden stakes. The rain didn't even last an hour.
Jesus is Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. Why wouldn't His Word of Answered Prayer continue?
Polio. The first epidemic of Polio began in the first 50 years of the 20th century. Some Polio here and there.
In children, paralysis due to polio occurs in one in 1000 cases, while in adults, paralysis occurs in one in 75 cases. By 1950, the peak age incidence of paralytic poliomyelitis in the United States had shifted from infants to children aged 5 to 9 years; about one-third of the cases were reported in persons over 15 years of age. Accordingly, the rate of paralysis and death due to polio infection also increased during this time. In the United States, the 1952 polio epidemic was the worst outbreak in the nation's history, and is credited with heightening parents’ fears of the disease and focusing public awareness on the need for a vaccine. Of the 57,628 cases reported that year 3,145 died and 21,269 were left with mild to disabling paralysis. A very high ratio of harm. Better hygiene meant that infants and young children had fewer opportunities to encounter and develop immunity to polio. Exposure to poliovirus was therefore delayed until late childhood or adult life, when it was more likely to take the paralytic form.
Prayer. Answer: Miraculous unexplained Salk Vaccine.
I spoke with a medical person today and learned children would be studied to find why they have such resilience to Covid 19. Perhaps it's because most common colds are Covid virus based. This Covid 19 throws the immune response into overdrive.
But the bottom line was - illnesses usually affect the young. No other illness was recalled not taking the young.
I believe it's possible all the despairing prayers of parents are in God's Consideration in this era.
To know the Scriptures is to know the Power of God.
When the Healing Powers of God are at work, God is present.
John 5
2 Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Aramaic called Bethesda, which has five roofed colonnades.
3 In these lay a multitude of invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed. 5 One man was there who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.
6 When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?”
7 The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am going another steps down before me.”
8 Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.”
9 And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked.
Abba, our Father,
When the waters of Your Might are stirred, we will certainly Pray.
You, The Lord God Almighty blesses us and keeps us.
You have heard our prayers about the safety of our children and prevailed to give us a Vaccine. Specifically for the generation so afflicted in this Covid 19 Virus.
You are our Lord Father God, Creator of All, has indeed made Your face to shine upon us in peril and You have been our Father gracious to us.
You have given Your Word as Jesus told us to pray:
Luke 18:6
6 And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says. 7 And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? 8 I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily.
26 The Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.
We believe You have all authority in Your Love and Word, Father God. Please stop this Virus Covid 19.
27 “So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them.”
The Name above all Names, Jesus.
In the Righteousness of Jesus we pray this:
Sirach 35:12-18a
12 Do not offer him a bribe, for he will not accept it;
and do not trust to an unrighteous sacrifice;
for the Lord is the judge,
and with him is no partiality.
13 He will not show partiality in the case of a poor man;
and he will listen to the prayer of one who is wronged.
14 He will not ignore the supplication of the fatherless,
nor the widow when she pours out her story.
15 Do not the tears of the widow run down her cheek
as she cries out against him who has caused them to fall?
16 He whose service is pleasing to the Lord will be accepted,
and his prayer will reach to the clouds.
17 The prayer of the humble pierces the clouds,
and he will not be consoled until it reaches the Lord;
he will not desist until the Most High visits him,
and does justice for the righteous, and executes judgment.
18 And the Lord will not delay
Jesus told His Brother James, a man known to fall short of the Glory of God, as we are short of Your Glory:
The prayers of a righteous man availeth much. We cover ourselves in the Name of Jesus
to pray the good health of those we Love. We pray for the places we know and for this Nation.
Continuing the Grace and Mercy of Jesus to all Your Good Creation.
We ask in the Grace upon Grace of Christ Jesus our Lord, Amen.
