John 1:29-42
The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
30 This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.”
32 And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from Heaven like a dove, and it remained on Him.
33 I myself did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”
35 The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, 36 and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!”
37 The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.
38 Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?”
And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?”
39 He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour.
40 One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ).
42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “So you are Simon the son of John? You shall be called Cephas” (which means Peter [Cephas and Peter are from the word for rock in Aramaic and Greek, respectively).
John's Gospel is interesting all over. John doesn't spend time explaining his own life or opinions. John doesn't hold back. John begins, beginnings are interesting, by explaining Jesus as God's Son. God the Holy Trinity. Jesus the Messiah of God.
I have seen and have borne witness
that
this is the Son of God!
Behold,
the Lamb of God,
who takes away the sin of the world!
I saw the Spirit descend from Heaven like a dove,
and it remained on Him.
What are you seeking?
Jesus immediately looks at the heart of the matter. Our destination. Our look to see. Our desire in life. Just as the Lord told Samuel to pick David. What our heart longs for.
John never describes Jesus Christ. David, we know, from Biblical description. Jesus isn't described. Twice, Nazareth says Jesus looks like Joseph, Son of David. It's the only opinion on Jesus from the Gospels. God says all things work for Good for those who work according to His Purpose. Why aren't we told? To see Jesus in the Blessings we have. To find Jesus in the people we love and know. To see their Blessings unfold. Admiring the Work of the Lord.
John says he didn't know Jesus, until John decided to look to seek Jesus. The decision we make daily. To look to find the possible Plan and Blessing of our Father.
We are to see Jesus the Light of mankind, in all situations, as John's Gospel tells us.
Isaiah 9:2
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shined.
Proverbs 4:18
The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.
John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life."
