John 5:1-25 ~ He has granted the Son also to have life in Himself


All Things are in the Authority of Jesus.
So He has granted the Son also to have life in Himself.



John 5:1-25




5 After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

2 Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Aramaic called Bethesda, which has five roofed colonnades. 3 In these lay a multitude of invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed. 5 One man was there who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.

6 When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?”

7 The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am going another steps down before me.”

8 Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.” 9 And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked.

Now that day was the Sabbath. 10 So the Jews said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath, and it is not lawful for you to take up your bed.” 11 But he answered them, “The man who healed me, that man said to me, ‘Take up your bed, and walk.’” 12 They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk’?” 13 Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in the place. 14 Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse may happen to you.” 15 The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him. 16 And this was why the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath.

17 But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I am working.”


18 This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

19 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel. 

21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will. 22 For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, 23 that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. 

24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

25 “Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. 26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself.






Today I was reading about the survivors of Covid 19. It's not unlike Hurricane Katrina. Unlike Hurricane, cold or flu, Covid 19 has respite. After the respite, Covid 19 takes someone who has had the regular illnesses or Covid 19 and attacks again.

These verses move from healing, to the comfort of life after death. This is the subject of our intense interest in the virus.



The man who was healed had hope for 38 years. His process was ongoing and he had been diligent.
Diligent.  This illness, this virus, causes isolation. People who are working to be well at home are separated from others. People who are working to be well in the hospital are separated from others. At a time we are blessed to have love, in illness, this virus takes us to quiet and separation.

People describe pain in Covid 19. Pain in the ribs, tiredness, difficulty to draw a breathe. And in the quiet, the lack of encouragement and the pain, there can be despair. Despair can let us let go of Hope. Today there were stories on the news about hospital staff taking time to let people hear from those they love even in coma. That might be something someone well nearby offers, but in illness - the illness brings cloudy thinking reportedly - this might be overlooked if others are ill at home or even if the illness is bearing down hard.

A plan of faith is required. When Jesus traveled across the Sea of Galilee sometimes 3 times a day, Jesus was working on His Specific Plan. The people who traveled to see Jesus had a plan of faith to arrive on time.

When I was in High School, our neighborhood of about 9 blocks had about 25 children, ranging in age from 6 to 18, passing along a viral Meningitis. (Bacterial Meningitis is the deadly illness with vaccines available now.) We were told it was an offshoot of chicken pox. I got it from my brother having a friend over and he was in our home about 15 minutes. The younger children went to the Hospital due to these symptoms: "Severe Headache", high fever, altered mental capacity, intolerance to light which could progress to loud noises. The key to not getting worse - - -  was to be hydrated and fed. In a time where drink and sustenance was almost abhorrent. Take fever nsaids before time, not after the 4 hour period. Stay on top of fever reduction meds. Set an alarm.


Discipline.  During pain and confusion.
The plan to have liquids a fever would not diminish. Food available without a lot of fuss. Vitamins. Items in a row. A cabinet. Written instructions and phone numbers.

Plan. 
Not to have the Virus. Take the precautions.

Plan in case you might have the virus.
Like David said in Psalm 108 a plan not to give into Malaise.
News isn't cheery. The economy will give us opportunities to have a solution. This is about the most important point. Jesus asked His people from time to time to have faith. He never expected us to be God. Even the blind men were asked to ask Him. Blind men were asked to walk. Jesus asked Lazarus' sisters if they had faith - to see a Wonder of God. Jesus asked, not as the Punisher, Jesus asked as Friend, Loved One and Salvation.









During World War II, my in-laws, as elementary school children, picked Victory Cotton in Dallas, Texas instead of Spring Break. DISD. Dallas Independent School District.


Logistics removing Fear.
You might want to consider some lighter movies and have some humor in between naps. And in finding entertainment (suggestions from children and adults) to uplift, it might be time to talk to older children and teens about how to nurse without fear. Our county is seeing some younger people with Covid 19. Like Georgia. Some children will take on some larger responsibilities than they know. Planning removes some of the fear.



Keep Logistics from creating Fear. Recovery is 96%. A good plan is only wise.
Write this down. Go over it when asked after one explanation.

Discuss  LOGISTICS temperature taking, who to call, phone lists, liquids, vitamins, medicines (easy to find), sandwiches, frozen food, canned food. Discuss space and quarantine in the house. Discuss with adult children a plan of safe visiting even if it's outside an open window. (I've wondered about scaffolding and window cleaning visits from windows at Hospitals. And the news about the very ill having phones dialed was very heroic.) Discuss the 3 days it sometimes takes to have delivered food. How to use the ordering, how to pay. Who would be dropping off food you know. Even have an emergency plan to get to the hospital. What hospital. Insurance Cards. How you will do laundry or where clothes can safely be placed. Plan how your family will not give the virus to others.

Plan in Respite to be encouraging force and be honest. Best foot forward.
To yourself and others near you. You might ask your child to read to you. And find books and scripture to uplift. Practice praying that is calming. Just talking to Jesus as if He is our Family. Talking to God Conversationally as Father. The Lord's Prayer and Numbers 6.

Endurance.
If you were ill for 2 and a half weeks, have you told yourself to realize you will survive?

Not to get this, This Helps! Practice thinking about the people who had this mildly. Realize how many people don't go to the Hospital. Recovery Rates of 96%.





Some thoughts.

My father and his family lived with being in recovery from having Malaria being from Bolivar Co, MS. The Delta has boggy areas and they had Malaria. Regularly Tonic with Quinine, which is quite light, is consumed in recovery. The "Prescription" medications recommended is an RX prescription form is a synthetic Quinine. Malaria sufferers have shown evidence the natural Quinine is more effective. THE THING ABOUT QUININE IS THIS - it is not a preemptive medication. Repeat, it's serious in creating bleeding and in heart irregularity. Serious. Quinine is NOT something you can take to ward off illness. It helps in definite illness, when breathing is labored. Not, not, not for those who have faced heart irregularities. I'm not a medical person - these are GUESSES.

Zinc has been shown to be effective in huge colds. Zinc is not a bad idea.

Psalm 108 ~ Melody

Psalm 108


A Song. A Psalm of David.

My heart is steadfast, O God!
I will sing and make melody with all my being!

2 Awake, O harp and lyre!
I will awake the dawn!

3 I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to you among the nations.

4 For your steadfast love is great above the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.

5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!

Let your glory be over all the earth!

6 That your beloved ones may be delivered,
give salvation by your right hand and answer me!

7 God has promised in His Holiness:
“With exultation I will divide up Shechem

We all know Fight the Good Fight.
Having all the tools we can find and find useful, is a path our Father God would walk with us.

Melody is a combination of pitch and rhythm, figuratively, the term can include successions of other musical elements such as tonal color.

One of the calming aspects of melody is the repeat. We can wait for the soothing portions or grab strength from the Pitch. The melody is learned. And once we comprehend what we enjoy, we will probably never forget this aspect of life. All the Biblical visions of Heaven tell us music is enduring, part of imperishable Life.

The Melody we are learning in Psalm 108, is the Good Fight today.
Psalm 107 tells us something similar, the voyage on the ocean. Beautiful and terrifying, we can picture this occurring in the same day. Calm and terrifying.

DWe all know Fight the Good Fight.
Having all the tools we can find and find useful, is a path our Father God would walk with us.

David was never recorded as being a sailor, or even going on a sea voyage. Psalm 108 has already told us the Psalmist woke up with optimism. As the day progresses, Joy is found. Suddenly, David is confronted with the idea of his loved ones suffering. We are told all the time, like Psalm 73, not to compare our lives to others. This leads to misery. Won't happen. Because - we learn from life. The Books of the Bible Samuel and Chronicles tell us immediately we want to know about Life and Lives and People. The Bible isn't just written as a History; The Scriptures are an Experience. Life isn't a tame lion. God is Good. All the Time.

As David compares his situation to the History, remember David learned while tending his family lambs and flock, David isn't really having fun when he contemplates all of the Scriptures. The Scriptures are real, life has suffering. David suffered for 22 years diligently working on being anointed of God. "Anointed of God." David was crowned four times and the prophetic went sideways.

When David had 'a bad day' it wasn't home, for glass of wine and a lot of over thinking. David went to a tent or a cave having seen entrails and broken heads. How did David cope with Horror.

David believed very strongly in something we'd call the American Dream. David wouldn't. David would say faith would ask us to do the work God gives mankind: To Believe in the One He has Sent. David understood The Almighty so well, David believe Yahweh was Jesus Christ. David believes, eternally, God wants the blind to see, the deaf to hear and the poor to have Good News preached to them. David believes whatever crisis he has, God is going to interweave this for God's Glory.

When we say Fight the Good Fight, we are saying:

The New Testament, the New Covenant, is telling us we are Living Stones. Building our souls into becoming God's Treasure. And we don't build tomorrow, we build today. David very specifically is telling us what he does daily. David the Shepherd admires The Good Shepherd. David is always tending something and as he tends, David is finding Joy. Today we might say mindfully, but David is not meditating in Peace. The Peace that passes understanding - is - very - present. David is doing as his faith and his life and his prophesy and his soul teach David - David is tapping into God's Strength, not to endure, to Thrive.

What stage of David's life is Psalm 108?

  • Forgotten and overlooked, the youngest son of Jesse. Learning about God in the field with the sheep. Samuel had to rebuke Jesse to get the ball rolling.
  • Innocent and overly confident teenager going up against a Giant. We have archaeological proof sitting in the Museum of Israel and accepted by the experts. (The internet was wrong, the Museum of Israel lists the asset.)
  • David wades into a mine field with his employer, the King. Losing the first wife and soon on the run.
  • Mercenary David lives very colorfully, and all the priests who helped him live the 'anointed' were taken in slaughter by King Saul.
  • David's own band of thugs decide to Kill David when the families are taken and kidnapped by other mercenary thugs.
  • David lived in a ... ditch. The Tel Dan Steele tells us David really existed. As King. Not many men ride their favorite donkey and dance naked at the Coronation.  One sort of lends itself to the other, maybe? 

What Stage of David's Life is Psalm 108?
Today.
David could be having a really bad time in his dream Palace getting the census taken. Or David could be learning Absalom is plotting heinously. The Time of David's Life is - Today.

One of the most calming aspects of God is the Melody repeats. Sing with me:
God didn't bring you this far, to drop you on your head.
And if you want to put that to Gregorian Chant - well, certainly. What ever rocks the boat.



Notice with me, the day this is played is Good Friday. How could our God. Our GOD, stand by for Good Friday. I lost a daughter as she was born. God caused Darkness, Earthquake and the earth was still. God isn't like you or me. When God died on the Cross in the agony and shame, God was on the Cross.

The same God who says on Easter Sunday, "My Father and yours."

David has learned to Thrive in World War I times. Because David believes God is so involved with him (you) our Jesus is coming back to cook Breakfast on the Beach and listen to us complain about jealousy and comfort and Politics and why does Jesus like John better, is he going to get better blessings now. While Jesus is talking about sheep, He really is telling Peter - allllll the sheep in the whoooole world.

Jesus already knew that. And God sent Jesus as an infant to be born in a barn, to an 'as yet unwed' mother. God sent Him to a barn to survive, bird flu. This is where these virus occur, food to table, in care of mere humans. Covid 19. God sent His Son to live past this.

God entrusts His Only Son, whom He Delights in, Wonderful, Counselor, Jesus The Christ of God - to the world. Tender baby, God Trusts us.

David expects to see what God is going to do is "Interweave" all things to Good.

David wasn't a deist, he didn't believe God was an absent patrician.


The Word of God Stands Forever. Alleluia.

Psalm 20 ~ May the Lord answer you

Psalm 20


For the director of music. A psalm of David.

1 May the Lord answer you when you are in distress;
may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.

2 May he send you help from the sanctuary
and grant you support from Zion.
3 May he remember all your sacrifices
and accept your burnt offerings.
4 May he give you the desire of your heart
and make all your plans succeed.

5 May we shout for joy over your victory
and lift up our banners in the name of our God.

May the Lord grant all your requests.

6 Now this I know:
The Lord gives victory to his anointed.
He answers him from his heavenly sanctuary
with the victorious power of his right hand.
7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
8 They are brought to their knees and fall,
but we rise up and stand firm.
9 Lord, give victory to the king!
Answer us when we call!

In the Name of Jesus we pray! Amen!



Mostly the things we worry about don't happen. Each day is sufficient.
Finding when we are excited about Love or God or the day or a new plan.
God's Mercies Renew. Daily.  This optimism is called in Scripture, "Daily He Loadeth
us with Benefits." The Joy of the Lord is Strength.

Mindful Prayers are a tool for the heart, brain and soul. To deliberately find what is joyful in Life. When one is excessively burdened, the beginning of mindful prayers can make the eyes mist up. Fine, well and good. The Journey has begun to find what is good to create Strength and Joy.

2 Samuel 14


Now Joab the son of Zeruiah knew that the king's heart went out to Absalom. 2 And Joab sent to Tekoa and brought from there a wise woman and said to her, “Pretend to be a mourner and put on mourning garments. Do not anoint yourself with oil, but behave like a woman who has been mourning many days for the dead. 3 Go to the king and speak thus to him.” So Joab put the words in her mouth.

4 When the woman of Tekoa came to the king, she fell on her face to the ground and paid homage and said, “Save me, O king.” 5 And the king said to her, “What is your trouble?” She answered, “Alas, I am a widow; my husband is dead. 6 And your servant had two sons, and they quarreled with one another in the field. There was no one to separate them, and one struck the other and killed him. 7 And now the whole clan has risen against your servant, and they say, ‘Give up the man who struck his brother, that we may put him to death for the life of his brother whom he killed.’ And so they would destroy the heir also. Thus they would quench my coal that is left and leave to my husband neither name nor remnant on the face of the earth.”

8 Then the king said to the woman, “Go to your house, and I will give orders concerning you.” 9 And the woman of Tekoa said to the king, “On me be the guilt, my lord the king, and on my father's house; let the king and his throne be guiltless.” 10 The king said, “If anyone says anything to you, bring him to me, and he shall never touch you again.” 11 Then she said, “Please let the king invoke the Lord your God, that the avenger of blood kill no more, and my son be not destroyed.” He said, “As the Lord lives, not one hair of your son shall fall to the ground.”

12 Then the woman said, “Please let your servant speak a word to my lord the king.” He said, “Speak.” 13 And the woman said, “Why then have you planned such a thing against the people of God? For in giving this decision the king convicts himself, inasmuch as the king does not bring his banished one home again. 14 We must all die; we are like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. But God will not take away life, and he devises means so that the banished one will not remain an outcast. 15 Now I have come to say this to my lord the king because the people have made me afraid, and your servant thought, ‘I will speak to the king; it may be that the king will perform the request of his servant. 16 For the king will hear and deliver his servant from the hand of the man who would destroy me and my son together from the heritage of God.’ 17 And your servant thought, ‘The word of my lord the king will set me at rest,’ for my lord the king is like the angel of God to discern good and evil. The Lord your God be with you!”

18 Then the king answered the woman, “Do not hide from me anything I ask you.” And the woman said, “Let my lord the king speak.” 19 The king said, “Is the hand of Joab with you in all this?” The woman answered and said, “As surely as you live, my lord the king, one cannot turn to the right hand or to the left from anything that my lord the king has said. It was your servant Joab who commanded me; it was he who put all these words in the mouth of your servant. 20 In order to change the course of things your servant Joab did this. But my lord has wisdom like the wisdom of the angel of God to know all things that are on the earth.”

21 Then the king said to Joab, “Behold now, I grant this; go, bring back the young man Absalom.” 22 And Joab fell on his face to the ground and paid homage and blessed the king. And Joab said, “Today your servant knows that I have found favor in your sight, my lord the king, in that the king has granted the request of his servant.” 23 So Joab arose and went to Geshur and brought Absalom to Jerusalem. 24 And the king said, “Let him dwell apart in his own house; he is not to come into my presence.” So Absalom lived apart in his own house and did not come into the king's presence.

25 Now in all Israel there was no one so much to be praised for his handsome appearance as Absalom. From the sole of his foot to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him. 26 And when he cut the hair of his head (for at the end of every year he used to cut it; when it was heavy on him, he cut it), he weighed the hair of his head, two hundred shekels[a] by the king's weight. 27 There were born to Absalom three sons, and one daughter whose name was Tamar. She was a beautiful woman.

28 So Absalom lived two full years in Jerusalem, without coming into the king's presence. 29 Then Absalom sent for Joab, to send him to the king, but Joab would not come to him. And he sent a second time, but Joab would not come. 30 Then he said to his servants, “See, Joab's field is next to mine, and he has barley there; go and set it on fire.” So Absalom's servants set the field on fire.[b] 31 Then Joab arose and went to Absalom at his house and said to him, “Why have your servants set my field on fire?” 32 Absalom answered Joab, “Behold, I sent word to you, ‘Come here, that I may send you to the king, to ask, “Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me to be there still.” Now therefore let me go into the presence of the king, and if there is guilt in me, let him put me to death.’” 33 Then Joab went to the king and told him, and he summoned Absalom. So he came to the king and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king, and the king kissed Absalom.


Only the worst families have violence. Untrue.



Our county is suburban rural, The Police have asked the County to report a 35% increase in Domestic Violence. Not even during the Hurricanes did this Headline happen.

Pandemic creates a myriad of situations.

Time to worry. Time to yell. Boredom to violence. Pretense of new relationships from old to create interest in unrest. Time to abuse substance. Time to rake up the past. Time to interfere with other family. Time to release long standing plots. Healed abuse fired up again. Emotional dominance and revenge.

Ages involved. Children. Easy target. Teens new to fears of the real world. Teen drama released on parents. Young people disappointed the world is shut down, where will life come from - fears. Young couples newly adults never thought life would be like this. The unemployed already looking for work for some time. Middle aged doing well - new to job horror with numerous children. People tired of teenagers always bored and unhappy, looking at aging now. Being next on the aging grid suddenly. New empty nesters where all the interests are being reexamined. Low income people surrounded in despair. High income never seeing extreme trouble before. Middle income pressed to pay all bills with limited income. People with some age and ill health with health bills and new employment worries. People with food problems facing supply issues. People with fussy long range and extended meddling families. The elderly facing a life ending trauma to the world. Dementia and old age fears with isolation.


Everyone is Struggling

2 Samuel 12. Career is all. We haven't met David's children.

2 Samuel 13. Meddling family for grins, regardless of goodness or righteousness. Incest. Rape. Revenge. Murder. Ruin. Arson. Now the family is aware of each other in a problematic way. No real justice or solution is sought, "just end the problem."

2 Samuel 14. Meddling outsiders. Lack of understanding of family dynamics. Pretense. Lack of Truth. False sympathy. Arson.

2 Samuel 18 Death of son due to violence. Choices of increasing violence.



The People God has chosen. And problems life has seen.

David has planned vigilantes. Women and families in camp. Small sparing. Small wars. Wars. Angry people. And unite a nation after war. Unite former enemies. David opts to put space between the offensive and violent and let them know the truth is seen. David is finding Separation with grief. His son has obviously begun plotting. Why?

  • Fight or Flight - if the disagreement is contained, distance. Walking, car, park. Bicycle.
  • Distance like David. Tents in the front or backyard a new camping experience with the kids. Yesterday so Viva las Living Room, tomorrow is Puerto Backyard.
  • Have some fun.
  • Don't pretend fight didn't happen. Never spend the night where violence happened. Unless emergency.
  • Allow time when life is so upset.
  • Revenge will continue the fight.
  • Quiet is agreed.
  • Don't give fake apologies.
  • Have a cool down strategy. Say cool down time. Walks, 'Soothing' Music, Something fun. A hobby or craft project. Make a dessert or fruit smoothie. A cup of tea or coffee. Visualize. Peace, Hope, Joy, Faith.
  • Find a solution. Discuss calmly or postpone for more information.
  • Apologize.

  • Ask your Church for Prayer

  • Bicycle trip is casually going far away and hidden.
  • Grocery store trip with the children. Walmart allows families to sleep in the parking lot.
  • Garage parking inside a friend's house. Safe and hidden. Tents in backyards.
  • Concrete multi level parking is empty during Pandemics. In safe areas.
  • Don't annoy deliberately
  • Be calm
  • Do not provoke when a solution is not available.
  • Do not go where you will be found easily.


Hurricanes end. Australia had forest fires for months. Pray and have Faith.








Abba,

Life is for us to become God's Treasures. Some are statesmen, some are soldiers, some pave the way to live better today, being calm today. Some save others.


God provides a path forward. Jesus told us sometimes the path is narrow.


Help us to Live seeking You first. Finding Your Kingdom is at hand. Help us to have Love, Peace and Joy.

Jesus told His people with His ability to inspire, "Have Faith." Faith cancels fear. What we do today is burden enough. In this time, we don't plan for financial ruin. God is Good. Plan for recovery. Plan and pray, we ask the Lord for His Strength and limit our burdens to today.


Philippians 4:8

Brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.
