Psalm 30
A Psalm of David. A song at the dedication of the temple.
I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up
and have not let my foes rejoice over me.
2 O Lord my God, I cried to you for help,
and you have healed me.
3 O Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol;
you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit.
4 Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints,
and give thanks to his holy name.
5 For his anger is but for a moment,
and his favor is for a lifetime.
Weeping may tarry for the night,
Joy comes with the morning.
6 As for me, I said in my prosperity,
“I shall never be moved.”
7 By your favor, O Lord,
you made my mountain stand strong;
you hid your face;
I was dismayed.
8 To you, O Lord, I cry,
and to the Lord I plead for mercy:
9 “What profit is there in my death,
if I go down to the pit?
Will the dust praise you?
Will it tell of your faithfulness?
10 Hear, O Lord, and be merciful to me!
O Lord, be my helper!”
11 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
you have loosed my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness,
12 that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!
When we consider David, in Faith, wrote the Dedication to the Temple, he had faced some dire times. How unusual David would refer to dancing and clothed in gladness, when he had both brought his donkey to a coronation and danced in the nude being crowned King - to the eternal dismay of David's first wife Michal. Surely with sincerity, we can say David was bringing himself, with his real personality, before God the Almighty.
David probably considered more of Heaven, knowing he would not live to see the Dedication of the Temple.
The Temple would fall in 546 B.C. according to Jeremiah and to the Babylonian Cuneiform. And this was the road to the second Dedication. We learn from Scriptures life really takes faith to get through what is Truly Awful to Find Blessings. David and the Children of Israel knew the work of faith. To Believe in the One God has Sent.
Psalm 137
By the waters of Babylon,
there we sat down and wept,
when we remembered Zion.
2 On the willows there
we hung up our lyres.
3 For there our captors
required of us songs,
and our tormentors, mirth, saying,
“Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”
4 How shall we sing the Lord's song
in a foreign land?
5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem,
let my right hand forget its skill!
6 Let my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth,
if I do not remember you,
if I do not set Jerusalem
above my highest joy!
7 Remember, O Lord, against the Edomites
the day of Jerusalem,
how they said, “Lay it bare, lay it bare,
down to its foundations!”
8 O daughter of Babylon, doomed to be destroyed,
blessed shall he be who repays you
with what you have done to us!
9 Blessed shall he be who takes your little ones
and dashes them against the rock!
Even this is emotional. The prisoners were forced to walk 1,000 miles to Babylon and witnessed the burning of the entire city and many murders. Things like this occurred to David too.
Consider the men in the boat on the Sea of Galilee, rowed, trimmed the sails, set the sail. It was work to get where Jesus wanted to go - usually. We do work to move ahead. Even if that work is Faith - a lot of Faith.
Now let's look at the lifting of tired hands and feet to the Dedication of the Temple - David was probably thinking of in Heaven.
Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as Righteousness.
Look at the Dedication of the Temple, thinking with David about being just a man and a man of God.
Isaiah 60
Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples,
but the LORD rises upon you and his glory appears over you.
Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.
Psalm 19
A Psalm of David.
The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
2 Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words,
whose voice is not heard.
4 Their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
Psalm 30

Psalm 8
O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.
3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?
5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under his feet,
7 all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
8 the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
9 O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Luke 19:40
“I tell you,” Jesus answered, “if they remain silent, the very stones will cry out.”
O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!
